- Since Jurassic World 3 (Dominion) is hitting theaters this week, I thought it would be a good time to revisit this classic rant/review of the previous entry, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I hated this movie and I still have very low expectations for the "final" installment. Owen and the gang are back to save dinosaurs. There is a wild volcano escape, a clone girl, a dinosaur auction, a clone girl, a mysterious collector and did I mention A CLONE GIRL?!?! This is easily the dumbest Jurassic Park movie to-date and that says a lot. We've scene a gymnast kick a raptor out a window, a dinosaur with a fedora talk on a plane and now a clone child setting all the craven dinosaurs free on Earth. What a film!!

Imagine making a movie about man-eating monsters massively swarming the world but 100% of the main cast survive everything

Fallen Kingdom sucks for me because it forced me to reevaluate my previous adoration for Jurassic World.
Claire blows as a character and does a complete 180% - at least her businesswoman thing *was a character,* and now she's just "hippie who works with dorks."
Franklin...still annoys me and the clone kid's reason for unleashing Dino Hell was where I checked out.
When Chris Pratt started tranq rolling away from the Lava. I was done. I wanted to go back in time and break my VHS of the First movie so i would never watch it a bagillion times.
I watched it with my kids. The girl character storyline was a complete waste of time. And of course she gets everyone killed by releasing hell upon the earth 🌎
The latest ones are just infuriatingly stupid. I can't believe adults are writing this stuff, and other adults are paying money and keeping it going.

Jurassic Park shouldn't have been a Franchise in the first place. It should have been a one and done film and that's it.
The same goes for Jaws and Highlander.

Jurassic Park (1993) is a masterpiece
I don't understand why the Jurassic series devolved into generic blockbusters. The original movie was a legitimately great Sci-Fi film that tackled the idea of dinosaurs coming back in an interesting and thought-provoking way, while still being entertaining and having likable characters. The Jurassic World movies are just popcorn movies for you to turn your brain off and buy into all the nostalgia bait.
Because the only thing studios nowadays think about is how to make money $$$ . There's no care about how bad a movie's gonna end up being as long as it brings in the dough.

the 2nd film quite literally tackles the thing you JUST mentioned wdym? the question brought up by the 2nd film in the world trilogy is "should these dinosaurs be saved,do they have the same rights as animals do?" and the ending of the film is setting up the consequences of releasing the dinosaurs into the world,(i.e a literal jurassic world)
ik most reviewers be like: "oh theyve killed a lot of people they shouldnt be saved"
but just like animals of the modern era,theyre lifeforms too,you think modern animals havent killed people before? lions tigers? and maisie's decision to let them go is seen as a crime,when people fail to realize the other end of the spectrum,AKA the people of this film who believe the dinosaurs have the rights to live just like any other animal, and maisie herself was a clone of a deceased person, she sympathized(and to an extent empathized) with the dinosaurs cuz she was also a clone,just like them and believed they were more than just assets to be sold off on auctions or to be kept in containment or just killed off, they were also living breathing animals,from 65 million years ago but they still existed on planet earth at a point in time
anyways thats just me explaining my opinions, i hope we can have a civil discussion about it in the comments without curse words being thrown out at each other,thank u for understanding
Yeah, 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' sucked and how does one live in a vast mansion and not know what's going on in the basement with all sorts of dino experiments?
Then,, SPOILERS, the clone girl releases all of the dinosaurs, thus potentially killing tens of thousands of children and adults because, you know, they're clones like her or are genetically engineered like her, so she relates to them. It was just ridiculous.
Sure but not nearly that many people would die. They're dinosaurs, they aren't kaiju.

Jurassic Park will never be replicated if they can't figure what makes these movies, because they're just made to make money. The first one worked because it was a blend of action, horror, and spectacle. The actions is in spades, but the horror and the spectacle have been neglected.
Fear of the unknown and personal vulnerability, combined with wide angled beautiful real world/computer graphics scenery that should be a treat for the eyes, while also being frightening because that scenery might hide something dangerous that has devoted its entire life to killing for sustenance or a huge herbivore that if it thinks your dangerous, will lose its shit to get away or kill you with little hesitation. Jurassic Park should do what the universal Godzilla movies were trying to do, tell us about the Titans of old and how small we really are in the grand scheme of things if we aren't careful with what we play God with.

the entire reason jp1 is applauded and remembered as this massive film is because of the awe of seeing dinosaurs for the first time on the big screen, it was a new and jaw dropping experience, however(just like how in JW1 Claire mentioned) once youve seen that,that spectacle is gone because theres nothing to be surprised by,why do you think they made the I-Rex? it was because lesser and lesser number of people were visiting the park and thus they decided to make a new attraction(i.e dinosaur) to get the attention of the public, and just like that,now that we've seen the dinosaurs in jp1, that spectacle is gone cuz theres nothing new to be surprised by, dinosaur films are considered normal these days when back in the early 90's,they werent
in fact in fallen kingdom the opening scene is one of if not the best of the franchise, its suspensful and a nice attempt at recreating jp1, but no matter what you do,youll never get the awe of seeing dinosaurs again on the big screen simply because such movies are just considered normal nowadays
i respect the franchise taking a new direction, most franchises these days like to either play around with nostalgia or take a very safe route, so i applaud them not doing the same thing
instead of bashing on the sequels for not being able to recreate the original jp,maybe we should appreciate new stories that shift our current understanding of the franchise

@@Surya25170 Duh, cause it was the first one? If they wanted an entirely new direction, they'd make their own dinosaur movie/franchise instead of trying to stand on the shoulders of greatness to sell a product.
Simple answer, because they suck at making movies and don't kid yourself: just because there are a few good things in these movies, doesn't mean the overall experience is good. I like parts of the Last Jedi, but I still hate that boring fucking movie as a whole.
Jurassic Park wasn't just spectacle: it presented these dinosaurs in a way that made them feel real, like you can reach out and touch them, but also they could reach out and touch you, which isn't a good thing when a lot of them are carnivores or panic prone herbivores. The dinosaurs in these movies don't feel real, they're all distracted by someone holding up their hand. Try holding up your hand to a lion, tiger, or bear, and see where that gets you.
Like that laser pointer dinosaur: who the fuck thought that was a good idea? An overgrown house cat as a military weapon? What would make more sense is a raptor that has an increased sense of smell/taste to track specific targets. They're so potent, they would have to have special muzzles on them so they didn't catch any smells they weren't suppose to. When they do get a scent, they hunt that scent with reckless abandon, even if it means they get killed in the process. Now imagine a bunch of these super tracking raptors were on your trail: no escape, they will find you and they will keep coming as long as they know what you smell like: either you kill them or they kill you. Now that's scary.
Problem is, Jurassic Park has fallen into that niche of children's horror like Five Nights at Freddy's or Poppy Playtime, its why we don't get stuff like Arnold's arm or 'Clever Girl' from the first movie, because everything needs to be Disney sanitized to sell toys.
I feel you maybe missing the big picture here on why I don't like these new movies, but I won't blame you for liking them. I enjoy things others say I shouldn't. I enjoy Batman & Robin for the campiness that reminds me of the Adam West version of Batman, for that its one of my favorite movies. I will say this, the new Jurassic World movies are not boring, just...Predictable? Its why I don't like them. I'm a horror buff and I just don't get that same thrill from the new movies.

Now, about the laser pointer gun thing,I think the point of that was to demonstrate that the indoraptor will be able to follow human commands but they couldn't show it literally as it was a prototype without any sign of empathy or obedience(which is why they went after Blue's DNA)
Practically speaking the laser was designed as if basically if you targeted someone with it then pulled it a trigger,then the indoraptor would receive a frequency telling it to attack that 1 person or a group of people (spoiler alert: atrociraptors in dominion are rumored to be shown in that way)
,so basically even if the target ran,the indoraptor would be able to track it in complex areas, and it had abilities such as echolocation to be able to track its prey,the indoraptor was designed to hunt,capture and kill humans,so it makes sense why it would have said Abilities
A Sniper can shoot 1 person in a group but then the others would be alerted,but if the Sniper instead triggered the frequency for the indoraptor to recognize,it would then immediately go after the group and thus would be able to kill several people
TL;DR: Fallen kingdom isn't the pile of shit people pretend it is,it has good qualities too but a lot of people fail to acknowledge that and only talk about the negative stuff

4 year me watching Jurassic Park terrified me when the trex broke out.
My 4 year old cousin was bored watching Fallen Kingdom in theaters.
I hate Fallen Kingdom too, but I counted this out as soon as he said Lost World was a bad movie 🤦🏼♂️
IDK I was never into the newer Jurassic Park films. Nothing has ever been close to as good as the original. I think we are around the same age, so I am sure you recall how big of a deal the original was upon release.

the next jurassic world movie should be a world where the velociraptors have been bread too intelligent. there should be a five minute intro to these hyper intelligent dinosaurs that have learned to talk to each other. the movie plays the subtitles to their conversations describing what they need to do to take over the world, all very elaborate plotting.
fast forward to a not too distant future. all our infrastructure is broken. society has broken down. velociraptors have their societies and cultures and they hunt us, and we can barely speak. we've been brought down to our caveman days. maybe throw in a couple of astronauts who have come back to earth from one too many generations spent on a space station. they try to convince the velociraptors that the humans are their own sentient species...oh, wait. that's Planet of the Apes....
never mind.
Yea but..... It's raptors. Let's be real, that's a further deviation than some of the obvious rip offs Hollywood has thrown at us. Avatar is Dances With Wolves, but with oddly sexualized giant blue aliens. And it was the highest grossing movie of all time.

I literally turned this movie off half way through it because it sucked so bad, don't really think I've done that to any other movie before
And they sold the Dinos for peanuts. Company worth in the high billions and auctioned of their prized assets for nothing. The operation to retrieve them would have cost that much.
Just rewatched this last night. Worse than I remember.
People might being in denial about this but *JP3* actually has the least plot holes & logic lapses compared to other JP sequels. It also helps that the movie is actually bright & colorful & short & simple & much more fun & adventurous than TLW & FK.

I loved JP3.. Its not a great flick. I dont like hearing the kid s voice cracking when he yells for his parents. My favorite scene is when Grant Kicks the Pterahdon in its face..So awesome..
@@Aeon2Flux He was alone on a dinosaur island for weeks. Give him a break. He is a great survivor & the best among JP kids. He saved Dr. Grant from a handful of Raptors.
@@androyus Not really the character. Im talking about the actor and how that yelling was just grating on me . Mo((UHA))M! DA((EHA))D! 😆. Ill cut him a break just because it likely wasnt his fault puberty struck before his shooting schedule..It still makes me chuckle.The Raptor scenes in that one were pretty cool too. The one that darts by the window of the Overgrown Lab and Visitor s center. With the blurred background..Loved how they kinda retroactively added set piece moments left out of JP1 from the Book. The Pterahdon cages and the boat was very much the River Raft part, with alterations. I liked that the ki was using a turned over Fuel tanker truck to hide in ..Joe Johnston did a better job with the sequel than Spielberg did.
I like to say this: Jurassic Park 3 is a great dinosaur movie, but a mediocre JP movie!
I’ve seen Jurassic World Dominion, and I think it’s better than Jw and Fk. Dominion is what JW should have been.
It's disappointing how Steven Spielberg is making excellent movies about real events and World War II or post-World War II era stories ('Saving Private Ryan', 'Schindler's List', 'Bridge of Spies', and 'Catch Me If You Can'), but he's lost it as far as his fantasy or sci-fi movies go when he was brilliant with those in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's.
Spielberg hasn't directed a Jurassic Park movie since 1997.
@@Dartanyoogles Oh yeah, that's true and he quit directing subsequent 'Jurassic Park' movies after 'Lost World' because he felt he never did a great job directing sequels and relied too heavily on the success of the original.
So, you are 100% correct, Casey, regarding 'Jurassic Park', but even fantasy films like 'Hook' really missed the mark in my opinion as did 'Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull' and 'Ready Player One' was just awful, so his more serious works and historical films are where he shines these days.
@@TorontoJon I mostly agree, although I have a soft spot in my heart for Hook. I love Robin Williams, and that is my favorite Dustin Hoffman performance. I feel it still captures some of that classic Spielberg magic. Ready Player One is entertaining enough on it's own, but it's an awful adaptation of the novel, and most of the movie boils down to nostalgia porn. Did you see Tintin? I thought that was excellent, and I felt it captured the spirit of his "good" Indiana Jones movies.
@@Dartanyoogles Yes, Tintin was well done and as far as Hook goes, I definitely enjoyed Robin Williams' performance and especially Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook, but the movie felt too busy to me; a bit manic-depressive.
One thing is for sure; I can't imagine the 70's or 80's without Steven Spielberg's amazing movies and of course, John Williams' gorgeous scores that were so integral to them. :)
This might sound like the same comment I made on your Last Jedi re-upload, but I also watched the first half of JW:Fallen KIngdom on a flight and have never finished it. Apparently flights are a great way to watch terrible movies for free.

Your take was bang on Adam! Island first act was good fun ... Mansion stuff with dino-mart for illuminati types was one of the dumbest things in movie ever! I just wanted dinosaurs to eat everyone by the end.

Jurassic world is pretty dumb aswell. Stupid script, main characters with crazy plot armor, kids being in the movie felt way too forced, the heel running scene, the beyond stupid trex and raptor scene at the end... I was offended watching that pile of crap
I had low hopes for this movie when I first watched it and it kept sinking as it went but the moment that the little clone girl pushed that button and doomed the human population is essentially dropping a nuke on the ship and being done with it.
5/10, No certain Dino, Plot amour beyond belief, Soooo many saved last second moments every 5 minutes, Rubbish story, Final battle was very unsatisfying and too much like the JW final battle although that one was better, Blue and the Mosa played no part in the story either. Anyone who gives it 8/10 or above is bonkers. 5 maybe 6/10.

I'm on the fence about watching the new one, I love dinosaur movies but the Jurassic Worlds movies have been so dull and dumb that the dinosaurs haven't made up for it

It was exciting to hear that the original cast members were coming back for the new movie. But the trailers look poor. Over the top action, CGI overload, yet more new characters introduced. Not promising.

I mean the Michael Crichton author of the Jurassic Park novel back in November 20, 1990 went on record say he wrote JP to Let scientific community how powerful genetic engineering is and how normal cloning could possibly lead to humans at some point because how no one is regulating it at the time 😂😂😂😂😂. 8:39 actually no it’s not😂 my guy did you not understand the message of the first flim ?

Jurassic Park like Jaws should've been one and done. You don't expect the sequels to match the greatness of the original but the problem is with both of these franchises started by Spielberg, the sequels are bad and worthless.

I remember rewatching Jurassic Park 3 last year, and realizing it is... not as good as I remembered it in my childhood lol. That said, Fallen Kingdom is actually the worst. How do you go so wrong after the first Jurassic World? Hopefully Dominion gives the new trilogy a better send off.

It would have been if James Cameron directed it. He wanted it to be as dark and violent as the novel. Supposedly Speilberg bought the rights a few hours before he could. Crazy what could have been.
