  • Changing the oil on the differential while the tire is off for replacement. This procedure is the same with the tire on. The tire does not need to be removed. It uses 170mm of 85w140 gear oil. A 12mm open end, box or socket and a 10mm Allen wrench.

I really appreciate your video. I'm leaking gear oil from my 2013 V7 Stone. I believe that it has been severely overfilled by the prior owner and is pushing out through the seals. My guess is that it was filled from the top. You've been a great help. Please keep the videos coming. Cheers!

Watching other youtube videos I have found that over filling the transmission will cause over pressure , which leads to leaks , In this great video the oil filler hole is also the oil level indicator , as normal with car gearboxes for example .
However the newer V7 bikes with the 853cc motor do NOT use the oil filler as the level indicator ! When the rear drive has been totally taken apart the advised refill capacity is 180cc of oil . When just changing the oil in a service though the refill capacity to use is 160cc ; or measure what comes out and replace with that volume . The manual states 180cc for services , which is wrong and why people have made videos about it ..... I am not sure if filling from the top , air breather , hole would be a problem and would appreciate anyone's advise . So you need a measuring jug or a big syringe to refill the 853cc transmission , as the factory has not modified the filling hole as yet ! Hope that helps .

Sorry I forgot to say .... there is an oil additive advised but apparently not crucial for the transmission . That will have to be considered in the total capacity as well. I do not remember what the additive is called !
