Moto Guzzi V7 rear brake pad replacement when the rear tire is removed.
It is difficult to examine the degree of rear brake pad wear on the Guzzi because several components block the view. But when you are replacing the rear tire, it is not only easy to see the degree of wear, but equally simple to replace the pads if needed. So always check the rear pads whenever you drop the wheel and be prepared to replace them if needed.
This video then shows, how to replace the pads when the rear tire has been removed.

Changing the oil on the differential while the tire is off for replacement. This procedure is the same with the tire on. The tire does not need to be removed. It uses 170mm of 85w140 gear oil. A 12mm open end, box or socket and a 10mm Allen wrench.

Adjusting the clutch at the transmission end is quite difficult with the rear tire on, but fairly simple with the rear tire off. So adjusting your clutch at the transmission, to obtain maximum adjust-ability at the handlebar, when you replace your rear tire is the way to go.

Moto Guzzi V7 III spark plug change

The maintenance manual requires that the spark plugs be changed every 6K miles and that the bike be taken to the dealer to do so. If you are a bit handy it is pretty easy to change them out yourself.

    If you drill a 3mm hole at the flat end of the adjuster screw, you can use an rod/Allen key hold the screw in place easier when tightening the lock nut. Don’t even have to take out the back wheel. Can just access from the bottom on the swing arm.

      Thank you so much for making that correction. It shows up as a choice from Amazon when you ask for an oil filter for a 2017 V7, which of course we now know thanks to you is incorrect. Looking at the picture can fool one. It looks the same, so without your advice may have made a mistake. On close examination I can now see that it does not have the bolt extend through it. Best bet is to stay safe and use the UFI. I have used that model now for five times. Yep, over 30K miles.

    I really appreciate your video. I'm leaking gear oil from my 2013 V7 Stone. I believe that it has been severely overfilled by the prior owner and is pushing out through the seals. My guess is that it was filled from the top. You've been a great help. Please keep the videos coming. Cheers!

      Watching other youtube videos I have found that over filling the transmission will cause over pressure , which leads to leaks , In this great video the oil filler hole is also the oil level indicator , as normal with car gearboxes for example . However the newer V7 bikes with the 853cc motor do NOT use the oil filler as the level indicator ! When the rear drive has been totally taken apart the advised refill capacity is 180cc of oil . When just changing the oil in a service though the refill capacity to use is 160cc ; or measure what comes out and replace with that volume . The manual states 180cc for services , which is wrong and why people have made videos about it ..... I am not sure if filling from the top , air breather , hole would be a problem and would appreciate anyone's advise . So you need a measuring jug or a big syringe to refill the 853cc transmission , as the factory has not modified the filling hole as yet ! Hope that helps .

    • @davidyendoll5903
      @davidyendoll5903 7 місяців тому

      Sorry I forgot to say .... there is an oil additive advised but apparently not crucial for the transmission . That will have to be considered in the total capacity as well. I do not remember what the additive is called !

    The plugs are a lot easier to access than the plugs of a BMW R850. Gee, I had to remove the valve covers and even then you need a special slim designed spark socket to remove the plugs. Consider yourself a lucky guy. You can buy a long socket for about 20 euro at Wunderlich. I am not sure where you live. Your last name is Dutch but your English sounds very American to me. When you live in the US there is also a Wunderlich in the States. Otherwise Amazon has them.

    A proper spark plug socket has a rubber insert that protects and holds on to the Plug. Makes removal much easier. Install the new plug using a rubber hose that fits over the porcelain part, just to get it started. A piece of fuel line or similar works well.

    • @johnverburg6318
      @johnverburg6318 3 роки тому

      Thank you for the comment. The piece of fuel line placed over the plug, once it was lose worked very well indeed. Also starting the plug that way, with the tube over it, worked great as well. Once the plug was in deep enough the standard spark plug socket work great. I was using a standard spark plug socked with the rubber insert, but since the plug is so deep in thread depth, it would push to wrench out of the socket. When that happens the plug was lose enough to come out with the tube. Thanks for the great addition. Together we make things better. John

I get about 69MPG now doing easy roads at about 60-65MPH. When new I only got around 62MPG at the same speeds. John

      @@johnverburg6318 WOW, I have the V9 bobber and I get exactly 100 miles to the full tank going about 75mph including some city traffic. The bike says the average is 45mpg but the math simply doesn't add up. Of course, I'm not stupid enough to trust Italian gauges and electronics. When the light comes on you have 1 gallon of fuel left. Therefore, I burn 3 gallons in 100 miles = 33mpg. It has the GTM tune and Agostini exhaust without baffles. The new ECU software is supposed to make the fuel mixture more rich to protect the engine and prevent surging in hot weather. Now the question is.....how do you get double the MPG, I don't push my engine to the limit, 75mph speed isn't exactly excessive, I weigh 210lbs and I have the side cases. The roads have some uphills, nothing crazy, maybe about 45 minutes of town riding with traffic lights, the rest of the way strictly highway. By the way, my bike has 5000 miles on the odometer, bike is already broken in and the valves adjusted at 4,000 miles and oil changes Motul synthetic 15W60 every 2,000 miles. Please feel free to comment, I'd like to hear what you have to say.

  • @daveco1270
    @daveco1270 4 роки тому

    I didn't have that problem taking mine out last week to check my valve clearance. Maybe my socket is a little longer than yours. If you buy a short extender for your socket wrench your problem will be solved, right?

    • @johnverburg6318
      @johnverburg6318 3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment Dave, but your socket must be longer in depth than mine. An extension would not help, because as the spark plug was unscrewed, the plug rose so high as to push out the ratchet. It would have done the same to the extender would have had the same issue, but the fuel line slipped over the lose plug, suggested by Mack worked great. A deeper extension also works well as well.

      Well I drove the bike across the country, buying it in Maryland and driving it home to Washington. That was about 6,000 miles and as you must know covered of all types of roads. In short, I love this bike, and know a bit of what I speak. My first road bike, when I was 28 years old, was a brand new 1976 Honda GL that I still own and has over 100,000 miles. I also drive an 87 BMW RS K100. All three are different, but for a perky roadster that can do the miles the Guzzie is it! Now, I did not do endurance riding, keeping it down to about 300 - 400 miles per day and often less. For long distance freeway miles exceeding 400 miles per day the GL is still king.
