so many people make that same mistake, including me! I surfed the wrong board for way too long. sometimes I’ll just watch all the surfers in NJ trying to ride 2’ waves on a short board. you can do it, but even the pros struggle for speed

When I was a young shortboarder I thought I liked surfing then I picked up an old Jacob’s 8’6 at a yard sale. Then I became a surfer.

SoCal was just hit with an epic swell from Mexico's hurricane Frank. Surfed Malibu and yeah, even with 4 ft overhead swell had lots of party waves (Check Surfline Aug 2 & 3). All were fun, but the solo rides were an absolute bast!

Would love to see you do some POV videos! I know, they don't help your own surfing, but for us viewers I think it'd be really helpful --- learning what to look for in a section, when to cross forward, when to recover, etc etc. Please do some POV if you got a chance.
I actually did some POV in my older videos with my gopro max. Most of the shots I used we're facing me, but some were pointing out towards the wave. It was such a pain to use though haha!

I've been dedicated to the SUP learning curve for about 5 years.
But your videos have me wanting to put a big nose rider in the quiver.
I've been wanting to get some video of me surfing for couple years now.
I feel like I'm surfing well and still progressing. But analysing some video would definitely be helpful.
video will only help! but yea, adding a traditional log will be a great addition. It will make you better at SUP as well. something about trying to navigate the wave with intent to noseride just makes you a better surfer

@@LongboardSessions last week a buddy offered to take some drone vids of me. He's got loads of experience in and out of the water, but this was his first time flying a drone.
I think he did pretty well. Me, not so much. The waves were bad that day and I ended up over surfing and forcing turns.
Hopefully we'll try again soon.

I understand that your trying to improve your stepping, but do you ever just get to enjoy the wave???
Great question! All this technical thinking and improving I do is actually how I get the most enjoyment out of a wave. So even though I'm always thinking of something to improve on, I'm also enjoying the wave as well.
I live in jersey and waves never get that big in the summer are these videos from winter
The footage in the edit was from about a month ago. Some of the shots I used in the beginning were from winter, but if i'm wearing a full suit, no boots or gloves, it's most likely summer. We had a good swell come through recently that produced some decent waves!

Jersey mostly rights? LOL, head south. Cape May county (facing SE) is mostly lefts, especially on big nor'Easter swells.
Yes! that’s what I need to do… I always stick to my area and I gotta start venturing out. there’s a spot down south that I hear has great lefts
Helps to have a perfect point break ….jeeeez…come over to the east coast…crap waves and close outs ! No amount of video is gonna help that !!

i think Fla has some decent longboard spots, but you probably gotta go searching. Considering that’s where Quintal is from, there’s gotta be something decent hehe
@@LongboardSessions he used to ride at the pier, which is really the only spot…but even that is so crowded now and all courtesy is gone with the younger crowds, just not worth it anymore.
