I love it so much and have spent my life around water and surfing but only really discovered my love for it relatively recently (2005j after a friend and I had some lessons. That's great to hear David! So glad the videos inspire you to cross step! Also, nothing like surfing to keep you limber as you get older haha! Also, from what I understand your in a pretty good place for waves 😉
Love you videos. Light hearted humility is an underrated strength. People like being made to feel comfortable, welcome and included, and your videos do just that. The surfing content is also very good-keep up the good work.

Looking for the smaller waves is great advice. I often tire myself out trying to get the bigger sets and end missing great small ones. As someone who used to surf a lot I am now trying to get back into it after a few years so this is something I will have to try. Great video!
Thanks James! I look for the smaller waves especially when it's busy lol. If you're out there on a longboard looking for smaller waves you'll catch a ton as well

Thanks so much! Yea for sure, im always looking for a mellow wave. Ideally I want the face to be about my height, but really small waves are extremely fun too if they hold up!
Lots more small waves and days out there than big ones. Taking advantage of what's available keeps you in the water and having fun. Everyday has its own challenges. Riding knee high waves can be one.
Dude. Love these videos. I'm from the Jersey shore and got into surfing a few years ago as a young adult after skating throughout my life and its been a blast. Your channel has really been helping me improve a ton!
@@LongboardSessions right on, I mostly went to the long branch skatepark back in the day, and camp Woodward in the summers. Now I mostly go to the beach in long branch for surf but I’ve heard good things about going further south to Belmar or Avon

Thanks so much Rob! Yes it's been an excellent experience so far between improving surfing and also improving video editing / narrative. Extremely fun!

Great video with more v helpful content. I particularly liked the "repeating to yourself" technique when you're in session - I'm definitely going to try that out from here on in. Thanks from the UK.
Another great video. You scored some quality waves that session. Comparing your early to current vids it's clear you're really improving. The learning curve in surfing is steep and never really ends. IMO that's what makes surfing fun and keeps it fresh and interesting. I've been surfing over 40 years and still push to get better every session. I've crossed to the "dark side" and ride an SUP now. (Scandalous) And its another steep unending learning curve.
Hi! I love your channel!!! I recently started surfing about a year ago, I’m from the Midwest so I never learned until I moved to New York for school. I surf at Rockaway since it’s the closest beach from me but I had no clue you lived in New Jersey!!! What beaches are good for surfing in New Jersey? And if you know, would you happen to know of any good surf rental places / areas for surfers? I love your channel!!
Thanks so much!! Well when it comes to surf spots in jersey, pretty much anywhere is good. That's kinda the beauty of here, but it's also the annoying part. If it's bad, it's bad everywhere pretty much. As for rentals, I know eastern lines in belmar rents, as well as brave new world in point pleasant.
Hey! Just found your channel last week, love the content!! Just bought my first longboard after my wave storm, can’t wait to try it out and implement your advice !
Surfing is REALLY hard. It took probably 2 years for me to master the roundhouse cutback (on single fins, quite a bit more difficult than modern boards). So be patient. Focussing on the fun you're having is a good path forward
How do you know the smaller waves will have enough power to lift you up? Is it based on the tide + your knowledge of a particular break at that tide? If so, do you keep a doc somewhere of the best conditions at those spots? There's so much information to weigh and I get overwhelmed with the details (or lack there of)!
It's very hard to determine if the waves will be good or not. I do keep a log of when the waves were good at specific locations. That way I can know what places worked on low tide and which worked on high tide. I also note if they were lefts or rights and what the swell direction was. Latley these have all been mental notes lol
You have the advantage of someone filming you! I repeatedly take one step and fall. Time for me to get some professional help. Years of shuffling is hard to overcome. Great videos, where are they shot?
Thanks! Yea shuffling is a hard habit to break, but you should try your hardest to start cross stepping. Cross stepping is so much easier than shuffling once you get the hang of it. Most of my videos are shot in new jersey
When you surf don't think just do. I no longer surf due to lifelong illness but I know and remember the day when I came off the mediocre plateau to advanced as a youngster. Hey i have Been surfing a 7ft foam board, i am 5 foot 7 inches and is pretty new to surfing, would a 6,4 shortboard be a choice? If you maybe have some board suggestions i would love to hear Them, but not too expensive🙏
one thing i would say, is to try and slow yourself down on your frontside waves, that was one thing i struggled with and i would end up way out on the shoulder trying to noseride because i wouldnt slow down and my board would shoot through the section before i got up to the nose. But holy crap the improvement from even a few months ago is crazy, keep up the good work 👍😁
Someone else said something similar. They said that on backside waves I naturally slow the board down, but on front side waves i struggle with it. I think you're right, I need to tweak my bottom turn and add a little more stall in it on a front side. I'm about to head out in the water now.. I'll give it a shot !
