Honestly, if you can surf well in small waves, scaling-up to bigger waves won't be an issue in terms of catching and riding them. You might have to get used to the timing of a more powerful wave, but the quickness you develop in smaller surf to pop-up as soon as you feel the wave breaking lends itself to knowing when to stand in larger waves... you just feel more energy. My only advice is to REALLY dial in your paddling and duck diving, because if you can't duck dive larger waves well, you'll get gassed or get beat up and maybe lose your board, which makes you a liability in the line-up. If you can't paddle hard/fast, you'll find yourself out of position... so start swimming laps in a pool when it's flat. Oh, and know where the channel is!

Slowly getting used to the power of the bigger waves , not letting the power startle/scare you when you wipe out or take one on the head, and being able to face them head on and to duck dive deep enough into the calm part below the whitewash is a big part; with big waves that break in front of you the big difference between small waves is u cant just turn around and try to ride the white wash, they'll thrash you way too hard and take your board, u have to face them head on with a duck dive try not to ditch your board Especially if others are near you, so ya the #1 thing as waves get bigger: be aware of others, bc consequences are bigger.

    • @gaberchi

@@victorg3782 And the faster you paddle at an oncoming wall of whitewater, the better off you are when you duck dive.

Typically there will be set waves that break bigger than the regular waves, so as you progress and go out on days that are in your comfort zone, you will start to catch more set waves which will get you comfortable on bigger waves and will make you naturally progress to bigger waves.

Can you make a video on foot positioning specifically on a short board, such as where your back foot should be while pumping (ex on the tail pad or off of it) and how and when to shift your feet while surfing a wave cause I know your supposed to shift your feet forward while surfing a smaller wave, so you don’t apply too much weight to the back of the board and bog it down but I just want to know how much further forward you should put that back foot because sometimes I want to go for a turn on a small wave but I find my back foot is just too far off the tail pad and then I don’t have time, to quickly put my foot back and hit a section; essentially I just want to know where the sweet spot is while pumping, so this would be incredibly helpful if you could go over that..please?🙏🏽!

    So my issues still exist-
    1. Not able to read wave
    2. Not able to get the soft spot whilst paddling
    3. Have skin bruises on my lower chest
    4. Nose diving
    5. Not able to turn.
My instructor has told me the mistakes and solutions for above, yet am not able to achieve my desired result.
