It came with free wallpapers and a screen saver of dead monster bodies falling from the top of the screen with noise. It also self installed itself without me knowing. Alternate title: The Rise of Randy
The rise, fall, return, followed by immortality
Demise is in development hell for way too long...
The 'Rise' of Randy? Like the affect that water-sports pr0n on his thumb drive does for him? Randy Pitchford? More like Randy Pitch-A-Tent-ford!
"Before Dark times..."
I had no idea my hatred for Randy went back as far as that stupid Duke 3D final level. Huh.
2020
January: Australia is on fire
February: US almost goes to war with Iran
March: Whole countries close due to a pandemic
April: Civvie 11 has to admit Randy did something good.
Christ...I'm not looking forward to the rest of the year if it keeps ramping up like this.
It truly is the end times. Alright everybody. Burn it down.
By the time we reach December, the human race will be on the list of endangered species!
Also a massive forest fire in the chernobyl exclusion zone
Currently, Krakatoa exploded with fire, lightning, and brimstone. There's giant swarms of locusts rampaging throughout the Middle East and heading towards China.
For all of Randy's flaws, I think he was a good level designer. He should have stayed a level designer though because he's been incompetent at everything else and only gets by on the backs of everyone else who isn't incompetent.
Randy Pitchford is a greasy bastard.
He's worse than incompetent, he's a manipulative grifter.
His head really got too big.
@Randy Burton Agree, just look at the boss fights.
@Randy Burton Well then, it'll be interesting to see how things go if and when Civvie does Half-Life and its expansions.
With that in mind, d'you think he'll cover Decay in the event of Half-Life coverage? After all, it's the secret co-op expansion to Half-Life that stayed on PS2 but got an unofficial PC release later on. ...come to think of it, Half-Life: Decay would probably be the perfect crossover point for Civvie's Dungeon and Ross's Game Dungeon. After all, Civvie would probably need someone to handle the second character, and while he could just reel in Katie or Hammer or maybe CV-18, getting Ross on-side would be absolutely perfect.
So I discovered Civvie when Ross Scott shouted out his Kreed video. And I gotta say, going though his backlog and continuing forward: it's always nice to see a UA-camr get more talented and funny as time goes on.
Honestly, I'd submit the script to Kreed to the Emmy's. Both the original game script and Civvies video.

@@garybusey9941 bro the amount of fetishy shit is on this hard if you wanna get deep with it, like the shrinking or freezing someone
ever see the movie alien?
@@protectordrone3375 In Duke 3D, yes. The Birth intro has a fully nude pregnant woman "giving birth." Which implies direct penetrative alien rape. Which, yes, in the Alien universe there are THEMES of rape because of what the facehugger is and does, but here there is A. Conscious direct intention behind the aliens actions, and B. It's literally rape.
Though I would have to disagree with the OP, as DNF 2001 wasn't nearly as horny. It had Slick Willy and some girls in it, but there was never any Hive level where you saw women getting directly inseminated by alien parasites. Even Duke3D only vaguely implied the nefarious intent.
For DNF they literally drew concept art of captured women in four different sex positions to show how the "Pregnators" could "mount" them. One of the various pregnator designs basically gave them the organic equivalant to a genealogical spreading tool, for fucks sake. DNF took it wayyyy too far. More specifically, it failed to pick a tone. Either you're going to do body horror and treat that shit like the genuine nightmare it is, or you're going to be a Naked Gun knock off with Benny Hill sex humor. You can't do both in the same game and have it work. That's the big issue there. Like, the hive would work in DNF 2001 or Duke 3D, because t hose games *generally* take the threat of the alien invasion seriously. Duke is on a quest to save the world, and that means something. In DNF 2011 it doesn't mean anything, so all of the creepiness of naked women being raped by aliens is on full display, and is especially jarring when you realize that the girls say some really awful things like "Daddy told me it was okay to swallow."
@@protectordrone3375the facehuggers in alien aren't even that bad compared to whatever the fuck happened in the intro.

Stuff like this and the Half Life 1 expansions show at one point at least Randy wasn't the greaselord he is now as he had some design chops back then, but once he became a CEO the grease took over his brain and he became the scumbag he is now. He does flash a "for now" sign when he says he's finally done with Duke 3D, so I guess those are in the plans eventually. I certainly would like to see Civvie's take on World Tour.
The Birth was certainly an inspired additional episode. There are times I wish it was longer and had more bosses, but it definitely did a lot for Duke 3D. I suspect the level Derelict influenced and inspired the large ship levels in Cryptic Passage, Redneck Rampage Rides Again, No One Lives Forever, and Deus Ex. The Area 51 level used to make me think that Duke Nukem could incorporate any major sci-fi film into its universe. It's interesting that you thought Area 51 was building up to a big fight in the end, Civvie, because I originally expected Duke to fight a new and different boss once I activated the nukes. The Queen level may have been frustrating, but at the least the Queen herself was a nice boss. The 3D Realms staff ending with big heads was oddly prescient of what was to come with DNF. Good going on another great Duke analysis, Civvie.
What I always love about these videos is the educational value. Another level pack, that's cool, let's go, but Civvie isn't being a lazy ass like me, and actually does some research. I don't know about others, but I personally like hearing about some stuff that was going on behind the development (especially when I don't need to read huge amounts of text and all necessary information is already processed for my little brain).

NinjaTanek Pro Half Life FOR SURE
Currently playing through Alien World Order, and you know what. It’s really good. Some of the most detailed levels I’ve seen in Duke 3D with thrilling combat encounters where old bosses become uncommon enemies, an evil new enemy that sets you on fire, a fun new weapon which is basically a flame thrower that one shots most of the weaker monsters, and giant open sprawling environments that feel lived in. I first played Duke Nukem 3D on the Playstation 1, it had an extra set of levels called "Plug and Pray" i think they're good and i enjoyed them but for years whenever i mention them it's a guaranteed troll response. Either they suck because they were too difficult (but i think that was the point), or they're Playstation 1 exclusive and so non-cannon, not worth mentioning or adding to future re-releases (Even on the Playstation 4) ...Anyway, i would love if you did a video covering these seemingly hated and lost levels
There's a fan-made port of that episode to EDuke32 out there, I saw it.

@@0neDoomedSpaceMarine I’ve never played it, or even Duke3D for that matter, but I suspect that I would be one of the people who really like it.
@@Shaun_Jones Give it a try, it's a really fun game.
Dude, so glad you brought up how the pig cop tanks have a self destruct button! I've been playing Duke Nukem 3D for almost 25 years and I just learned about that trick a month ago myself!
For anyone asking...
"Pluto Nash Butt Expansion" is the one you ought to be searching for.

Thanks
Oh, here we go! Time to introduce Duke's Arch-vile equivalent!
these guys are little bitches compared to the arc vile
"Randy Pitchford did a good job."
*Say sike right now*
Fun Fact: Since the entirety of "The Birth" was omitted from the N64 version of Duke Nukem (or maybe that version was released before Atomic Edition was, I don't remember), the Snake Plissken secret is found in the "Death Row" level, in a secret area. Speaking of Death Row, you would also find a reference to Hannibal Lecter in that level, in the area that, in the PC version, had the chapel. In the Nintendo version, however (since religious imagery was a big no-no for Nintendo), that room was replaced by a long hallway leading to both the Hannibal Lecter jail cell, as well as the recording room secret that you find in the "Pigsty" level in the PC version (another thing they had to move due to the lack of "The Birth" chapter in the N64 version)
Oddly enough, they did port over the Duke Burger and Area 51 levels. IIRC they were the only levels from The Birth that made it in.
@@LonelySpaceDetective Yep, that's true! I forgot about those.
God damnit Civvie, the council of boomers has spoken, you must do pro TNT Evilution and complete the doom official releases or be left permenantly shamed.
If you really find it that hard to talk about then change things up by installing a gameplay mod like "nobody told me about ID" or something.
H Doom TNT Evilution
He could do it PRO-ISH and use some mods
Final doomer?
Or punish himself and do BROOTAL DEWM
He hasn't done Ressurection of Evil and the lost levels for Doom 3 BFG and Doom 64. He should probably do all of them for a 1 video to get it done and out of the way, shouldn't really take that for the ones I've listed.
Fun story involving meeting Jon St. John: I used to work for a public broadcasting station while in college. I got media passes to attend a small video game convention where he was one of the guests of honor. A buddy and I approached him to see if we could snag a quick interview and he was cool with it. Not only did he answer questions but was cool with giving us station tag lines - short clips that would play between shows that drop the station ID. He did a few of them in the duke voice, and one where he walked out from behind a Duke cardboard cut out. We were STOKED. Now, mind you, he was visibly DRUNK AS FUCK but held it together and was still able to give us some great content for the station even while drunk. After all this, he asked us if we had any "booger sugar". We were good boys and sadly couldn't supply him, but we did have a prerolled blunt and smoked in the parking lot. He entertained us with some of his most wild convention stories. He left us, crossfaded and stumbling away leaving us with one last line in the Duke voice: "I'm gonna sleep good tonight."
Sometimes I wonder if he found any coke and kept raging the rest of the night. Sadly, the footage from that event is lost to the bowels of time. WIsh I still had it so I could share it with Civvie.
rofl, the manual for the game tells you that pig tanks can be killed by hitting use on their backs.
Greaselord vs Levelord
Say Civvie, did you ever encounter 1996's Strife?
Also David Lynch does not approve of Randy's antics
Its always a good Civvie vid when another tally gets added to the nuke counter, and an even better one when there's a Postal reference.
**Duke on the phone with Ken Silverman**
Duke: I've got *BALLS OF STEEL!*
**Capstone on the phone with Ken Silverman**
Ken: Btw, how's that William Shatner game going?
Fun Fact: The Pigsty level is based on the police station massacre from the original Terminator, from the car crashing into the entrance to cutting out the power for the entire building.
"How did you even fit that in here?" - Civvie, 2020
Civvie going 'Randy did a good job' and both our souls leaving our bodies may mean that Pitchford actually feeds on human souls, and this is how he gathers them
just food for thought
Actually it's food for Randy
That horrible sonofabitch

I was wanting to try Borderlands 3. I liked the first two and was looking forward to the tons of different guns I could be getting and using, but Randy Pitchford is slimy and I don't like to support him. Then I heard that the developers were getting a cut of sales from the games sold. That was going to be enough to get me to actually buy Borderlands 3 even though I don't like supporting Gearbox in any way, shape or form anymore. Then this happened.
Thanks Randy. You made my decision for me.
Do you own a cell phone?
Never thought I'd hear Civvie say "Puppers." Thanks for putting the mouse back in line, that made my day.
" *For now"
OH BOY! DUKE CARIBBEAN WHEN, CIVVIE?!
Now
Fun fact, having been to the Gearbox Plano office before they moved to Frisco, I can tell you they used to have a giant sign showing the minimum wage on the cafeteria wall.
There's something funny to me how the battlelord just casually strolls out of the doorway at 10:12
Me: "All this self-isolating and social distancing really sucks!"
Civvie: "GET ON MY LEVEL...!"
Holy crap wait. "Here this video was shot by an undercover operative!" Was that dude pretending to be an alien? That's awesome.
You can kill Protector Drones with the door similar to the Sentry Drones. I don't know why, but instead of exploding, they get squished under the door just by walking towards it.
4:48, that is a Beavis & Butthead reference, right? Correct me if I am wrong, but that nasally, slacker voice could not be mistaken.
Pistol starting Derelict & The Birth on Come Get Some w/ no quick saving had to be some of the most aggravating moments I've had with the game compared to the rest of the episodes, including World Tour's maps.
Randy: actually makes a good level
Everyone: Impossible
Hey Civvie, fantastic video as always. Since discovering your channel about 3 weeks ago (I believe the Department of Special Corrections allowed UA-cam to have it crop up in recommended for me), I've been binging your videos and revisiting/buying and playing a ton of the games you've played. its been a killer trip down memory-lane, all of it has been keeping me somewhat sane in the wake of this quarantine. Keep up the awesome work, and one last thing you might find hilarious:
I found you in Postal 4, right after I bought a "Health pipe" from your fine establishment, I smoked it and the game crashed just as you said "Don''t get ass prints on my door".
Civvie begrudgingly admitting that Pitchford did a good job was epic.
Something else I learned from playing episode 4 is that the teleporter death trick works with gibbing too, so if you blow up an Assault Captain while he's teleporting he'll come back and explode into guts.
*A PRO NUKEM EPISODE UPLOADED ON MY BIRTHDAY? A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES! THANK YOU CIVVIE!* 😃
11:46 fun fact I pressed E at the wall that noise was coming from and it activated a door that squished the Assault Commander and he stopped making noise
Oh god, new subplot confirmed. Civvie's new demon PC is spreading flesh and corruption through his room.
_Looks like we need a new timeline. Again._
Civvie , about the map "Its impossible" .
In germany we say " Ein mal ist kein mal" which translates to "One time is no time" . Its meant that if randy did something once good then it doesnt mean everything is good.
