OH HELLO, A CIVVIE11 DUKE NUKEM VIDEO?! :O Edit: Damn, Sunstorm was completely done unjustly, I would think the company had talent and potential barred only by the corporations they were under. God damn that's a shame. Welp, I can't wait for Manhattan Project with, in my opinion, the best Grabbag version that exists!
Oh man... the ultimate weapons you wanted as a kid... The twin linked Super Soaker with the big water backpack and the Nerf Minigun with several hundred rounds... ...Ok I'm 31 and I still want them.
Back in the day when I first discovered Sunstorm Interactive, I was astounded that a game company such as they got to make their own expansion packs for some of the best FPS games of that era. Wizard Works, Sunstorm's publisher, did the same, though it seems that Sunstorm did their expansions a little better than Wizard Works. When I first read about Sunstorm's expansions for Duke 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior, and Redneck Rampage on their website, I thought the concepts for the expansions were inspired. Based on their summaries and screenshots, I thought the expansions must be really good. As I discovered when I was older, it turns out Duke Caribbean, Route 66, Wanton Destruction, and Cryptic Passage were the ones that stood out, while the others were not as good as they could've been. Even Duke Caribbean and Cryptic Passage didn't fit the advertising on their game pages. Duke Caribbean promised an iguana enemy and certain level designs that didn't make it, and Cryptic Passage promised certain level designs and boss encounters that didn't make it. I think Duke it Out in D.C. had the potential to be better than it was. A Duke 3D game based on actual blue prints in Washington D.C.? One which would allow you to explore and interact with real environments, while at the same time fighting aliens? If done right, it would've been inspired. The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History has a lot of areas that I would kill to explore in a Duke 3D game. And I can think of a few ways to make the Congress and White House levels a little more interesting. Still, despite Sunstorm's and Wizard Works' flaws, they had the right idea in wanting to develop a variety of expansions for the big games at that time, and expansions with interesting and unique concepts. They just needed work on quality consistency, and to realize that there are only so many Zone! expansions you can make with the first letter of Doom, Heretic, or Quake. Duke Caribbean, Cryptic Passage, Wanton Destruction, and Route 66 definitely represents that kind of quality an expansion pack developer should aim for. That would be the ideal dream: to own a game company that specializes in doing fun expansion packs with variety for the latest FPS games. The only problem is getting permission to do the expansions you want for the games you want to expand, and Sunstorm was very lucky to be able to develop the expansions they did for the big Build Engine games. Most of the games I'd want to make expansions for are all old games. Maybe New Blood Interactive and the new 3D Realms could permit such an enterprise.
Man, check out Simply Silly Software, aka Joe Wilcox. He had a dig with WizardWorks to make frontends for D!Zone shovelware packs for Doom and eventually his team made the original episodes for Heretic within H!Zone pack. Original titles like Duke: Nuclear Winter, Extreme Painbrawl and Extreme Rock Climbing was because of the shovelware titles. So they beat Sunstorm by a few years but it's obvious that they're both pioners of 3rd party commercial addons.

It’s like the DNF 2001 version of the Duke Museum.
I wish these expansion packs were included in the 20th anniversary edition. Thanks randy!!!!!!
They come with Duke 3D on Zoom-Platform, at least.
I can’t believe they couldn’t be bothered to redraw the pig cops with suits on to make them look like FBI agents/ secret service agents
I don’t quite remember how I found this channel but I’ve loved every second of each video I’ve watched- and this video is no different.
I love tropical inspired games... I wish there was more like Duke Caribbean, I have played that a ton! loved dead island because of it too
Yeah! More duke and Civvie
Thanks for being a constant source of entertainment
The Washington DC level hasn't aged well.

It's been one hell of a ride, thanks again Civvie.

Man this episode kind of hits harder in 2021...man why couldn't it have been aliens?
Civvie is one of the few youtubers who I always cycle through their older uploads while still looking forward to new ones
Love this channel and the content, you got good voice and cadence/timing. Good editing! Dont stop making videos civvie you are really good at it.
Never owned Life's a Beach, but loved Duke It Out in DC.
The Alien Armageddon mod includes really nice retools of both expansions.

Thanks Civvie. You always brighten my day.
Civvie, you've got to cover the Alien Armageddon mod at some point. Its a massive overhaul of Duke3D that doesn't break the fundemental feel, tweaks to every level that needs it (Huge changes to Smithsonian Terror that make it much better) and a new episode that dropped a few months ago.
You'll love it man, seriously. Right up there with AMC TC.
Made by the same people ;)
@@enderhx Not ALL the same. Dan (DeeperThought) has a very different style to Jblade. There's certainly plenty of crossover between the two projects though; the Duke modding community is tiny compared to Doom.
I chuckle every time Civvie makes a Sentry Drone blow itself up.

is that the bouncy cops on Caribbean are actually a replacement for the sentry drones.

Damn man, are you a prophet? Are you... THE ONE??
I was just literally trying to download Duke nukem world tour. Then this came up to pass the time .... talk about good timing.
Man, this is a fuckin' trip to watch now. Violence in DC looks so bright and fun here.
Finally some new Duke of Nukem content. Hail to the Civvie, baby!
its been 84 years and there is no Manhattan Project video.
Civvie you should do a special episode for 150 sewers.
I remember beating Manhattan Project, great game. Can't wait to see your review!
11:47 "You have more than one coconut flavored weapon replacement"

Nah, you get two different coconut launchers to replace the RPG and the devastator.
@@lhfirex That makes MUCH more sense, thanks lol
You know there's actually two more episodes, if you count Total Meltdown's Plug and Pray
I've literally been binge watching Pro Nukem this week after finishing the cursed Randy version and this gem hits my screen.
I honestly loved the real-life-ish locations of Duke DC. Never been to them in real life, but they felt like real places and that's cool.
2:16 Well that's simple Civvie: have you ever tried to do anything productive when you're randy all the time? thinking about girls performing all those magic tricks? OH HELLO, A CIVVIE11 DUKE NUKEM VIDEO?! :O
Edit: Damn, Sunstorm was completely done unjustly, I would think the company had talent and potential barred only by the corporations they were under. God damn that's a shame. Welp, I can't wait for Manhattan Project with, in my opinion, the best Grabbag version that exists!

Or d'you mean the lady laughing at it? Because honestly, that was relatable.
Funny thing is I was thinking about Manhattan Project and here it is being teased! Thanks Civvie and can't wait for the next Pro Nukem
You think they could replace the "LAPD" on the Pig Cops uniform in DC.
Oh man... the ultimate weapons you wanted as a kid...
