Though just to note, the whole “the song is about prostitution” thing is only about _one_ version. They should've painted a really crude, crappy smiley face on them, because the aliens are also on vacation, got bored, and started decorating them to pass the time.

But I think that what most people remember about Bulletstorm was the "MASTER SERGEANT SHOOTER SERGEANT PERSON" stuff from the marketing, which says a lot about the game itself.
It advertised itself as a tongue-in-cheek parody of action-game tropes, but the best it could possibly do was to sometimes call it out, like when the protagonist gets saved and he yells out "Deus Ex Machina".
I personally think that the writers and designers weren't on-board with that whole "parody" thing, because the game itself plays it straight.

Fun fact: The bikini babe NPCs are actually Enforcers with their... everything replaced. Which explains why actual Enforcers are nowhere to be found in the expansion. I found out by accident when applying a fanmade graphics improvement mod, which caused them all to revert to Enforcers.

With that in mind, if we ever get another Duke Nukem game, maybe we could have Duke going around saving alien babes too? After all, I doubt that Earth is the only planet that was subject to the Empire's "rape and pillage" policies.
Plus, being able to actually save the babes, rather than leave them at the mercy of an inhuman enemy, would be a nice thing to be able to do. We can do it in Duke 64 and Manhattan Project, so it should be a core mechanic.

Manhattan Project has my absolute favorite rendition of the Duke theme.
Life's A Beach is possibly my favorite part of Duke Nukem 3D, the levels are incredibly well made, everything has a great and cheerful tropical vacation reskin, and the music is top notch. Boy, I tell you, it's almost as good as an actual vacation.

There was no way, not even a snowballs chance in Hell of knowing how that within the span of almost two years (ALMOST TWO YEARS) that things would go so far south, that it would age something so terribly that it could be seen as hilarious in the darkest way possible. This man deserves a reward on how shit luck could be for someone. No one and I mean no one could have known that something like that might bite them on the ass eighteen months later.
It was known about actually. Economists had been warning we would be entering a recession soon as a result of the exact same things that exacerbated the great recession. Disease experts had expected the next pandemic would be coming from the Corona Virus family for the past decade. British NHS was freaking out a few years ago about their simulations showing that Britain would get screwed hard by a respiratory pandemic. Your average joe didn't know about these things admittedly, but it just goes to show you life's a struggle for information.
The capitol level in the DC expansion also became incredibly uncomfortable in just 6 months.

@@elwayfan01 The pre sequel felt like it had better balancing compared to 2, in 2 you needed specific builds to get anywhere after a certain point in the ultimate vh modes, in the pre sequel pretty much anything works all the time and weapons don't need 12 digits to scratch a basic enemy
@@space_racc tbf I've only beaten both on normal and dabbled in TVH. So the difficulty wasn't a consideration.
But I will pose that the pre sequel is harder, because I still haven't finished the boss fight in the Claptrap DLC. Though I haven't touched any of the DLC in 2, so 🤷🏻♂️
@@elwayfan01 to this date the only one I've finished is 1, and nearly all the dlc except the one with Athena because it crashed. The others I've played for a bit then just got bored and now I've moved on from the series.

These were fun expansions, but Duke it Out in DC really gets good if you have the Alien Armageddon mod. It adds a bunch of government personnel and soldiers fighting back against the pigcops, and adds the pigcop tanks.
The latest update even makes Smithsonian Terror much less shitty.
I like Smithsonian Terror. Only bad things I remember about it are exit that I missed in the most stupid way and buttons in underwater area.

I think one of those Deer Hunter games or one of the Daytona or Nascar games was the first time I saw a fully 3D game on a home computer (and maybe a year before I saw the same on home consoles) and it just blew my mind. You can play games that look like arcade games...AT HOME?!!??!!

Its an average set of levels. Has some clipping issues.
@@SniffHeinkel Oh I know. I had to play it in DukeGDX because it would not run in eDuke (overall DukeGDX is not a bad port) but it felt like it was made in less than a week. It just has that mid-90's user map stink to it apart from the improperly scaled pornstars.
I had Duke 3D on PS1 when I was 8, and when I was 9 on that faithful Christmas morning, I got my first ever PC with Duke Number 3D with these 2 expansions, good fucking times!

I bought it on Switch since it was really cheap, (and i have megaton on PC), but even on there it doesn't feel right. Compared to other FPS games on the system it's damn near unplayable.

I'm playing these episodes with Alien Armageddon now and omg I love this mod so much. These expansions are so good. Especially life's a beach. Although I miss the fun alternate weapons. The mod does an amazing job putting more variety in enemies in the levels as well, especially D.C. If you're looking to play or replay the expansions, definitely play with AA. You won't regret it. New textures, new secrets, new easter eggs, new enemies, new weapons, new one-liners, even a bot to help you that you can switch to. This mod is the best and biggest I've seen in a long time. And they even made their own episodes. And a "war of attrition mode" which I haven't played yet, but I bet it's fun. I definitely recommend playing it if you haven't yet
The fact that in AA you can use night vision on switches to reveal the proper ones to highlight is so useful. Saved me from headaches in a few maps.
The Washington DC level hasn't aged well.
Theres only two ways this can end Civvie. And in both of them, you review Manhattan project.

@Afmm Isn't that the one where enemies die in one hit but you get an m60 which is just a retextured chaingun cannon so challenge is nonexistent.

Thankfully in Alien Armageddon, Smithsonian Terror no longer sucks: besides changing the level layout a bit so it isn’t as obtuse to find the keys or open doors as well as making the living ocean’s switches bigger, they replaced all the texture “art” paintings with actual images which are usually memes, like that Jackie Chan one which makes reference to Shadow Warrior, Bob Ross painting Duke 3D’s box art and even Bomb Solider Battlefield from Mario 64, which you can go inside to find Mario, a warp pipe, a question mark block and a serious Sam bomb that actually blows up if you shoot it.
Another Serious Sam reference is found in The Ancient Worlds’ Egypt diorama and the Living Ocean has SpongeBob and Patrick in one tank, and Spongebob’s house in another. There’s even a sealed off Duke wing accessed through a vent that’s full of pictures of Duke and Bombshell, as well as callbacks to all pre-Forever Duke games. It’s like the DNF 2001 version of the Duke Museum.
I'm too young to have enjoyed these boomer shooters when they came out, but I can still appreciate their worth in the context of their creation. I have to say, I am impressed by the length Sunsoft went to with the Caribbean expansion pack. All those little touches, the music using those exotic instruments, the reworked sprites, the inventivity with the weapon adaptation; that they went so far really shows they cared.
Honestly, actually playing them as a kid could get super frustrating. I always got lost, or missed a key or switch or door around a corner somewhere. They had a lot of design elegance but I can totally see why the basic essence of FPS's shifted a lot.
Dammit civvie. Who's going to do this dissertation now that my eyes are busy watching this sexy video on repeat for several hours?

The Alien Armageddon mod includes really nice retools of both expansions.
I’m kinda depressed now seeing as my first experience with Duke was through the Pitchford monstrosity that lacked one of these two beautiful episodes.
I don’t quite remember how I found this channel but I’ve loved every second of each video I’ve watched- and this video is no different.
One thing that civvie didnt observe, or didnt notice
is that the bouncy cops on Caribbean are actually a replacement for the sentry drones.

Civvie, you've got to cover the Alien Armageddon mod at some point. Its a massive overhaul of Duke3D that doesn't break the fundemental feel, tweaks to every level that needs it (Huge changes to Smithsonian Terror that make it much better) and a new episode that dropped a few months ago.
You'll love it man, seriously. Right up there with AMC TC.

I used to own Deer Hunter. Played it on my moms laptop all the time back when CD players were still a plug in peripheral.
Also duke Manhattan Project is one of my favorite duke games. I sunk HOURS into it.
