I'm one year older and I loved Kenny, Dolly Parton, and old, classic country. This is the Kenny Rogers that I will always love and remember. Plud, growing up on Hee Haw. Britt should do some Hee Haw reactions. That would be awesome!
Kenny Rogers was probably my late wife's favorite artist, his song with Dolly Parton, Islands in the Stream was her absolute favorite song of all time! We enjoyed 48 years together before she passed!
I'm 50 and grew up listeing to Kenny Rogers. One summer when we first gor HBO (lol) my mother, grandmother and I watched the Kenny and Dolly concert. Then my grandmother says...thay man can park his boots under my bed anyday 😮
You are 100% correct what you said about Kenny Rogers that raspy voice and how he took his time with this song fantastic artist it’s a shame he’s no longer with us
Yes, make sure you get the longer clip, where Kenny tells the story of how Lionel came to write the song for him. It's really funny, and shows such warmth and love in their friendship.
A list (probably incomplete) of men my mom thought were instant pantydroppers, and which I thought was bonkers at the time but now I kind of get it: Robert Duvall, Dwight Yoakum, Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson, and George Strait.
@@lisazaccardimeunier8378 I think it's especially him as Gus in the Lonesome Dove miniseries. (It does not entirely hold up to a 2023 rewatch, but the way he says "Lori darlin" makes me start to understand it)
Lionel has such a distinctive style of writing. Even when he was still with The Commodores. If I'm remembering correctly, they didn't want to go in the direction that he did so he left for a solo career.
These comments are killing me. Come on people, Kenny Rogers had one of the greatest voices in the history of music and he knew how to deliver. That song is epic and Kenny was the perfect person to sing it. Great job Lionel and Kenny.
Growing up in that era and now hearing someone younger enjoying it brings tears. It's crazy the emotions that come up. I can see myself singing this song to my high school girlfriend. Wow!
Don't forget that Kenny started out with Psychedelic Rock. Check out "I Just Dropped In (to see what condition my condition was in)" by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.
Kenny has an amazing catalog of music. I was head over heels for him in my teens. She believes in me is also a great song. Heck all his songs are amazing! RIP Kenny ..
He came to our local arena when I was about 13. He handed me a rose while he was singing this. I have been in love with him since before I knew what love was. 😂🎉😅
Many of you are here cuz Mom & Dad danced to this song!!! 😂😂😂 Yes, Kenny was the right man to sing these outstanding, heartfelt lyrics. Kenny has had a very varied career, such as with The First Edition then solo. He and Lionel were lifelong friends until Kenny passed in 2020. For a different, earlier Kenny listen to "Ruby - Don't Take Your Love to Town." He had over 120 top singles across various genres.
Lionel mentioned on the talent show with Katy About how he lived in Kennys guest house for like a year until he wrote a number one song that got his solo career moving .
britt i just love the way you reacted to this legendary song lady.your expressions were priceless.i love your you tube reaction video's ❤❤❤❤ keep up the good work
Kenny goes all the way back to the late 50s both as a solo artist and member of groups, in the early/mid-60s he was part of the very popular group New Christy Minstrals and later the lead singer of the 1st Edition. Later he got into country, predominantly, but never shied away from pop, rock, jazz, blues, etc. Amazing talent!
I'm glad that Kenny Rogers gave credit to Lionel Richie for writing and producing this beautiful song. So many artists fail to acknowledge the original creator of the work.
Kenny said that he likes to sing songs that every woman wants to hear and every many wants to say. You're right! If you looked up the definition of "sexy" in the 1980s dictionary, there was a picture of Kenny. He is about as smooth as they come. He sings so effortlessly too. Kenny has done different styles of music. Before going solo, he was in the band, KENNY ROGERS AND THE FIRST EDITION. You should check him out there. The songs, JUST DROPPED IN TO SEE WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION WAS IN, RUBY DONT TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN and TELL IT ALL BROTHER are all great!
Fun fact, Kenny and Lionel were really good friends and have sung this song together. Lionel killed it with these lyrics and Kenny took it to a whole new level! Kenny Rogers was the man in the 70's and 80's. You nailed it. The men wanted to be him and the women wanted to be with him! He was an amazing talent and all around good guy. RIP Kenny
Thank you for the reaction. This song had all the ladies falling in love with Kenny! So smooth and buttery. Lionel wrote this specifically for Kenny. Both country and R&B got their roots in the church and the musicians can easily transition from one genre to the other. Some are more successful, such as Kenny, than others. So glad you finally did this one. I had a hunch you'd like it!
I have always considered this the most beautiful love song ever written... from the days when my mother was crazy for Kenny and I did toddler pirouettes around the room.
Kenny Rogers is his own genre. You need to look up when Lionel is being honored. Kenny tells the story of the song. He and Lionel became life long friends
There is something he does, so subtle, that shows how comfortable, and in command, he is when he is live on stage... he is walking, singing... and without any effort, just a subtle flick of the wrist, he moves the mic cable out of his way.... it goes unnoticed by most... but says everything about his comfort in front of an audience.
I am woman. Hear me roar. I am woman. Hear me squeal. I am woman. Watch me melt. That raspiness is from years of singing rock before Kenny went country.
Kenny started out doing Jazz, then folk music (The New Christy Minstrels) then Rock (The First Edition) - even a bit psychedelic... (JUST DROPPED IN TO SEE WHAT MY CONDITION WAS IN.) A full range of styles and he could do all of them back to back on stage. One of the best selling artists of all time.
Ralph! I remember as a kid how haunting Kenny was on "Tell It All Brother" and The First Edition. He was a vocal master in every era of his career.

I love Kenny Rogers, he's so smooth! He did a beautiful duet with Dolly Parton called "You Can't Make Old Friends". They were dear friends since the 70s and its just the sweetest song about old friends. They were nominated for a Grammy in 2014 for it and it was a song I had chosen for my eulogy tribute for my best friend of 35 years when she died in 2016, it hit my heart so perfect.
"Is he part of the panty dropping club?" Hahaha! Yes, yes, he was! I remember my mom, aunt, and their friends...geez, they'd lose their minds over his voice! Haha! And then my age group, even if we didn't find him to be a heart throb, he certainly loved his songs and wanted our boyfriends to dedicate them to us! Hahaha! The dance floor was FULL when his songs played!
The Silver Fox...RIP MR. KENNY. ONE OF THE MANY SINGERS BELONGING TO THE "PANTY DROPPING CLUB"...God must be shaking his head with THE SILVER FOX swooning the Ladies up in the pearly gates😅
I can't even think of Kenny without thinking of this song. It got all of us revved up when we heard it; his vocals are incredible. (Lionel did an amazing writing job on this one, too!) RIP Kenny! You brought so much love and joy to the world with your music.
I am so excited that you played this song! It is one of my ALL TIME favorites! Kenny sang it perfectly! Lionel wrote it perfectly! I LOVE IT!!! Thank you for your spectacular reaction! It was PERFECT!
Yes Britt he changed from country to country/pop!!! Lady 1980 is one of my favorites from him. Him and Lionel Richie were best friends from that point on. He passed several yrs ago. Love Lionel Richie too!
Lionel is nothing short of amazing. His body of work including his collaboration with Michael Jackson on “We Are the World”, really deserves so-much respect! Kenny really did him proud with this one.
Love this song and "Through the Years" are two of my favorite Kenny Rogers songs. Now that my husband and I approach our 50th anniversary "Through the Years" has special meaning and my husband has always considered me his "Lady". I have always loved Kenny's voice no matter what genre he is singing.
Britt, you are the best -- the way you feel music and then put into words what you're hearing and feeling. Such a pleasure as a drummer who' played with lots of singers...always love it when I play with a singer who gets the nuances of the music.
Kenny Rogers is mostly country but he has covered several genre. I grew up listening to him and he holds a very speacial place in my heart. He has one of the richest and soulful voices ever. He is a great storyteller with his voice. He can really get emotions across. One of my favorite songs by him is Ruby. A real heartbreaker, he tells the story so well. I knew you would love this video!! Please keep doing more Kenny.
Three Lionel Richie songs that will induct him into your "Drop the Panties" Club (and one LEGENDARY duet with Diana Ross) are "Hello", "Oh, no", "Truly" and "Endless Love"... Lionel was a MONSTER during the 80's!
My youngest daughter had a huge crush on Kenny Rogers when she was very young. She told me she was going to marry him someday. When she was 6 we were at the grocery store and she saw a picture on a magazine of Kenny's wedding to someone else. She broke down in tears. Could not console her for weeks. So YES ..he was sexy to women of all ages.
I was a young girl and EVERYONE loved Kenny. My teenage babysitter was OBSESSED with him and even had the Kenny Rogers “Lady” blue jeans. I thought she was the coolest! Kenny has such a rich legacy of music! 🥰
During middle school (waaay back in the day lol), we had a long drive to school and we played Kenny Roger's Greatest Hits almost every day. lol I still know every song by heart.
Rightfully this song was on the R&B charts for quite a while. It's not even a crossover, it was always pure soul, and speaks both to Kenny's genius, and Lionels.
Kenny Rogers is a artist he could see just about anything he wants. Why I love older music you had people that could really sing, and sing live with out sounding to different that what you heard on the radio or record. First time seeing your reactions very nice think i will check out more
Lionel Richie didn't just write the song (he performed it as well), he wrote it specifically FOR Kenny. Another great "panty dropper" song from Kenny is She Believes In Me.
Hi Britt 😀. I LOVED this reaction video... watching your GENUINE expressions of appreciation was PRICELESS. I'm not a big R & B fan nor a fan of Kenny Rogers' musicography, BUT I DO genuinely ENJOY this song as well as Kenny's AMAZING vocal performance on this one. KEEP SHINING BRITT !!! ☺🌹🌹
My brother, Kyle, absolutely loved Kenny Rogers. Then he played it for me on a record player, yes a record player. I am old. I was probably 6 years old at the time and I was like, holy shit! This dude is a beast. I didn't know what country music was or what R&B was, I just knew that his soul came through so I could hear it. I was hooked. His songs are absolute treasures. I love that he got Lionel Ritchie to write a bunch of songs for him, because it changed him from just a great country artist to a universal star. It was the pivotal moment in his career. "Lady" is my favorite Kenny Rogers song of all time. And I love so many of them. I play it for my wife and when I look over at her, it takes her breath away. That is how unbelievable this guy could sing. Hat tip. He will go down as the greatest male country singer to crossover into mainstream music. I know, I know Taylor Swift has him beat. But no guy does. That I can say with confidence. Especially considering the fact of when he was a star. What about Kenny Rogers in the era of UA-cam and social media? OMFG. His star would have been the grandest of them all. His duets with Dolly, Sheena Easton, Dottie West and Kim Carnes and Tim McGraw were classics. Kenny Rogers is one of kind. His music will live on forever. Rest easy, Kenny.
I don’t think you have ever reacted to Engelbert Humperdinck. He began singing in the 1960s and was introduced as the Most Romantic singing star. He is now in his 80s and still doing concerts! Would love for you to react to Please, Release Me,Love is All,Welcome to My World,Last Waltz, sooooo many more. You can add him to the panty dropper club…he may become the President!❤️
The story behind this song is hilarious and is well explained and told by the two of them in numerous live recordings. Lionel tailored this song very specifically for Kenny when he asked Lionel if he could write a song for him. On meeting up with Kenny he discovered Kenny had just met a beautiful upper class woman, that gave him the inspiration to write this classic for him. This song created a deep brotherly relationship between the two of them.
Back in the late 90s, my sister and her high school choir sang with Kenny Rogers and Sawyer Brown at a Christmas concert at the Breslin Center in East Lansing,. Probably one of the proudest moments of my sister's life outside of having her kids. Also, I think Lionel Ritchie wrote "Lady" in one sitting in the bathroom just for Kenny. 🤣
My mom LOVED Kenny Rogers. Most women did in those days. Kenny and Dolly Christmas album is the only Christmas music I play to this day. His voice…. His swagger… Yup, enough said.
Im 67. Was a young woman when this song came out. Its beautiful, and Kenny was the perfect one to do the song. You actually well like hes singing it to you.❤
My late husband and I had “through the years “ by Kenny sung at our silver wedding anniversary. He was one of the best most versatile singers in our generation.

That was our first dance at our wedding reception! My husband changed the song to surprise me!!
Miss Brit ur reaction is just as amazing as this song is 💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Great reaction. You made me spit my drink out with the PANTY DROP line. Didn't not expect that 🤣.
And who else is in that club? Tom Jones for sure. . . Bill Medley . . .
@@bonnievonbraun6276 Steve Perry, Michael McDonald, Barry White, Barry Gibb, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye,
Kenny is a Awesome singer for sure !!!😍😍😍😍
I don’t think you have ever reacted to Engelbert Humperdinck. He began singing in the 1960s and was introduced as the Most Romantic singing star. He is now in his 80s and still doing concerts! Would love for you to react to Please, Release Me,Love is All,Welcome to My World,Last Waltz, sooooo many more. You can add him to the panty dropper club…he may become the President!❤️
I started listening to Kenny Rogers when he sang Ruby don't take you love to town .
This is a phenomenal song and he kills it. Next to the story of the baby Jesus the story of this is one of the best stories ever told.,
I loved Kenny i listened to his records yes records when i was a kid
The story behind this song is hilarious and is well explained and told by the two of them in numerous live recordings.
Lionel tailored this song very specifically for Kenny when he asked Lionel if he could write a song for him.
On meeting up with Kenny he discovered Kenny had just met a beautiful upper class woman, that gave him the inspiration to write this classic for him.
This song created a deep brotherly relationship between the two of them.
Got tos Kenny in concert back. Very high energy performances. Yes the ladies were entranced.
Beautiful reaction
My mom LOVED Kenny Rogers. Most women did in those days. Kenny and Dolly Christmas album is the only Christmas music I play to this day. His voice…. His swagger… Yup, enough said.
Really liked your take on this song. Good to see that young people can appreciate this classic.
You definitely have to check out Kenny and Lionel Richie preform Lady together. Great performance
Such a great song
