My dad called my mom, Lady, my entire life. Every card, every note, was 'To My Lady' in reference to this song. I'm almost 50 yrs now, and dad passed in Dec/22. This song means so much to me now. ❤
And that is the way the song should be thought of, what it does to the heart, the soul, and the devotion to your true love. This song was first sung by Lionel Richie & I used to dream that someday, some how, someone would think of me that way. Then Kenny re-made it and those feelings came back. At least I know there are those out there that have experienced, cherished, and respected those once in a lifetime loves. Thank you so much for sharing. You and your parents are so very blessed.
what a beautiful memory of your parents. Yay you.
That is so sweet!!! My parents will be celebrating their 67th anniversary in March. Long marriages always amaze me. God bless!
How lovely!!!! The first few notes always give me goosebumps. Legendary artist and song ❤
Seems Lost on You Both
Now you must watch the version of Kenny & Lionel doing it together in Las Vegas, at MGM Grand, in 2012, a few years before Kenny passed. Lionel was being honored and Kenny told the story of this song & the love & 30 year friendship between them is such a beautiful thing to see. Then they do it together. Makes me cry no matter how many times I see it. 'Old Kenny' still was amazing. Lionel also recorded this beauty. Kenny sings another love song like this called 'through the years' & is perfect for couples. Another beauty. (And that last note got the ladies! LOL)
Yes, this is a great video clip. I have watched many times.
Yes the Lionel and Kenny video is the very best. Hope they check that one out , even on their own. They did have a beautiful friendship.
YES!!! It's like watching two masters play tennis. It's such a beautiful rendition and their love for each other as friends is palpable.
Lionel Richie is a great song writer. Kenny was the epitomy of romantic singers. This great hit will never be outdone.
I love how he tells you someone else wrote the song and then sings it and you believe he means every word he says. Great artist ❤
and why are they having a discussion about karaoke in the middle of this beautiful song ?
When our daughter was born on 1980, Lady was the #1 hit. At that moment, my husband decided that if the baby was a girl this would be the song he would dance with her at her wedding. Fast forward to July of 2006 and the father daughter dance was to Lady. He was so thrilled to dance to this amazing song with his lil Lady at her wedding.
Whenever my husband and I would here this song, he would tell me that I was his lady. He didn't vocalize his feelings all the time, but when he did, he meant it! He's been gone for almost 21 yrs now but I still get tears when I listen to this. Thank you!
Young people these days always feel sorry for us older people because we didn't have all the things they have today, but I feel sorry for all you young ones because you didn't live through the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s....... What a blessing!!!
amen
I was extremely lucky, I lived thru 60's twice. Think about it.
I sang this song to my wife, my daughter was born 9 months later ! That tells it all !
lol true romantic.
As a guy who grew up in the late 70s I can remember my dad playing this on the record player and I believe we had it on 8 track as well. I think of my parents every time I hear this song.
You realize how many kids were born 9 months after this was released. Women melted to this song back then, and I would suppose a few still do.
Kenny Rogers concert was my first date with a man who became my husband. This was our 1st dance song at the wedding. We were married 29 1/2 years when he passed away.
Kenny is second to none! Grew up watching my Dad dance with my Mom to this as he'd sing it to her. She'd be smiling ear to ear. ❤❤
Kenny Rogers started as a Rock artist in the 1960's with a group called the First Edition. He was good back then also.
Legendary is the right word for Kenny. Such a beautiful voice.
"She Believes in Me" is another Kenny Roger's must listen to...
This Disco years were great but when this came out in 80 it reminded us that a love song like this, a lovers slow dance, is sooooo much better. Best Love Song EVER!!!
My favorite version of this is Kenny singing it with Lionel Richie. You can tell the love they had for each other!
His growl is everything! Perfect for the song!
Kenny Rogers, that voice with his rasp and those songs... It will always be sexy and never ever feel tired and old. An awful lot of babies were made to this mans voice. He and Lionel have always been 2 of my all time favorites and it's no surprise they were such wonderful friends.
He sings it beautifully ❤❤Sadly missed …
This is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
He’s was such a wonderful singer I had the pleasure of meeting him such a wonderful man R.I.P. Kenny you will be so missed love you always
To the young lady reacting to “Lady”, I have never seen a woman not even get moved by this song of love that Kenny has for his “Lady”. Yet to the young man, bravo, you got it. That was so nice to see. The fact that you wanted to surprise your “Lady” with this song was beautiful yet she didn’t seem to get that. 🥺🥺🥺
Please, please watch the video years later of Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie singing this song on stage together . Love your reactions. I feel you. PS, will be 70 in March. I’ve lived all the classic rock you’re looking at and experiencing for the first time. Magical reactions to songs I’ve enjoyed for over 50 years.
For more than a minute back in the day, this was the quintessential song for the first dance at so many weddings. Yes, that was before romance was replaced with raunch. Kenny did a duet with Dolly you should check out called Islands In The Stream.
Reminds me of waking up and hearing a commercial for hits and hearing this song playing lol
Islands in the stream that is
A little known story about this song. Kenny and Lionel were in the studio and Kenny kept singing the song but he wasn't happy with the way that it was sounding. Then his wife walked in. He sang the song to her and it was perfect. That is the way that he sang the song from then on.
Another lovely ballad he does is, "You've Decorated My Life" and you have to check out "Islands in the Stream" with Dolly Parton as others have said below. Loved your reaction! This is one of my favorite live performances.
Lionel was writing this song and the name of it was "Baby". He and Kenny we talking and Kenny told Lionel that he had met a real Lady that he was smitten with and Lionel changed the name of the song to "Lady".
I always loved Kenny Rogers and this will always be my favorite song sang by him. It was always kinda my song to sing along with to my wife when it would come on the radio or such. She passed away almost 2 years ago now and I just sat here trying to sing along but crying most of it heh. This will, in my opinion, always be the ultimate love song.
Iconic Kenny Rogers made musical history! Thank you for experiencing this classic! Have you done his: The Gambler? It's metaphorically priceless! And Islands in the Stream duet with Dolly Parton?
I used to do Kareoke back in the 90s. I did a lot of Bob Seger, Joe Cocker, Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart songs. But when I would do this, I would literally get phone numbers tossed at me in the club while on stage. Kenny has a magic about him that translates to women incredibly.
This man knows how to be sensual without being disrespectful he is a true romantic.
Kenny was also an amazing photographer. What a voice that man had. Legend.
Song written By Lionel Richie! Great song! Kenny Rogers was in The First Addition a group from the 60s.
I sang this to my bride at our wedding in 1983
Beautiful song. I have ALWAYS LOVED KENNY.
all his music is great.
"YOU CAN'T MAKE OLD FRIENDS." THE BEST EVER!
Kenny Rogers is not my era, but I have to say...his voice!! Never fails...
This was such a wedding song back in the day. Love Kenny Rogers and all the memories this song stirs.
When Kenny debuted this song...1.6 million babies were conceived.
Check him out doin` it with Lionel life !!
Definitely go check out the live version of Kenny and Lionel singing this together! So cool!!
LOVE IT!!! You should give a listen to the video of Kenny and Lionel doing this one together!!!!
Amazing people don't know more about Kenney Rogers, from
The New Christy Minstrels in the early 60s to Kenny Rogers and The First Edition from 66-75. Then almost a 40-year solo career. You have just scratched the surface of all the great songs.
Beautiful silver fox right there. I love his voice. Perfect son writing by Mr Ritchie.
Kenny rogers vocals are just so unique and beautiful. This song is such a classic , romantic gorgous song
Kenny performed this sooo good. That said, lyrically, you can close your eyes and see Lionel sing this through Kenny. The Lyrics are 100% Lionel, no mistake!
Love love love! Your wife is beautiful 😉
There was an owner of a Corvette dealership in my hometown of Jacksonville Florida that was a dead ringer for Kenny Rogers. When he went to a restaurant or store, it caused a small riot with the ladies swarming him. I saw it happen it a mall once and it was hilarious.
Another great reaction. You've already reacted to some of the best of Kenny, Coward of the County, The Greatest and The Gambler. Time for you to step it up with a Duet. Please look for Islands in the Stream with Dolly Parton.
That vocal fry Kenny uses on that last line is one of his trademarks. People love it. It was intentional not him missing the note
Makes me think of my wife. 34 years, wow. Without her I would no doubt become a bum, for lack of a better word. Great video, great reaction.
You've listened to story telling kenny, romantic kenny and now it's time to go back and listen to rock kenny. The song is called "JUST DROPPED IN TO SEE WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION WAS IN." It's back when he was in a group called Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.
**pick the one that is 3min 18sec and put up by Jack moore.**
If you don't know, Kenny Rogers originated with a group called The First Edition. Early Rock music. Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.-Many hits.
Kenny is who i built my ideal man around. I was so in love with him growing up. From late 70s through the 80s and into the 90s kenny had my heart.
Y’all should check out Kenny Rogers and the First Edition from the 1960s. “Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Condition Was In)”, “Something’s Burning”, “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town”.
Written and produced by the man who is perhaps the greatest writer of love songs in the R&B/R&R era. Try Lionel doing "Still", "Sail One", "Easy", "Zoom (with The Commodores)", "Truly", "My Love", "You Are", and "Three Times A Lady' and "Just To Be Close To You (both also with The Commodores)". All big hits, since Lionel had 5 number one hits.
You Decorated My Life.
She Believes In Me.
Both by Kenny also, and in the same style.
I have never thought of Kenny Rogers as a country artist. I'm old so I remember Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. He would have been considered more Pop or Soft Rock.
One of the all-time classic love songs! Lionel Ritchie classic beautifully sung and performed by Kenny Rogers.
I worked for Kenny's PR company in Nashville and got to meet him several times. He is a wonderful wonderful man.
This is my and my husband's song ❤❤❤❤
Greetings from Oregon-Ann Murry-Could I have this dance-Going to need a towell.
The first record I ever owned was The Gamber by Kenny Rogers when I was 7 years old. He is one of my favorites. RIP Kenny.
If you like this one you should check out "Through the Years" it's an awesome song for couples that have been together long term. Kenny has many iconic love songs.
This song brings me to tears every damn time. What an accomplishment of songwriting (Lionel Richie) and singer (Kenny Rogers). If I was a woman, i would LOVE someone to sing this to me.
Listen to Islands in the Stream-Kenny and Dolly
This was There THE slow skate that ended the night at the rink. And yes we LOVED Kenny!!!
Beautiful song to skate to
Lionel Richey wrote this song for Kenny. They were best friends for over thirty years! There’s also a tribute to Lionel where they sing this song together. You can see the love and brotherhood they had for each other!
It was uploaded 15 yrs ago, but recorded in the early 1980's.
I fell for Kenny Rogers when he was very young and it was Kenny Rogers and the First Addition ❤❤❤
Fond memories of "Couples Skate" being called at the roller ring....!!!
Sebs singing this karaoke to Allie in front of her friends...hell yes Brother.
No woman could resist. Powerless under this song.
I can't believe that you both have never heard this before!!!
This one gets me every time!! Such a gorgeous love song!!
Beautiful song by a Legend!!
Kenny Rogers " RUBY DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN"TY
76 year olf guy here and I sing karaoke about every two weeks. "Lady" is one on my list
Kenny Rogers has some of the best duets I've ever heard he's done duets with Dolly Parton Sheena Easton Dottie West
I was SO BLESSED to see Kenny in concert many times!! He first performed this when married to wife, Marianne and played a video of her giving birth to their son Christopher while he sung this...there wasn't a dry eye in the place!❤ RIP Kenny!!
That was number one…..a long time. I was a kid but I heard that one million times.
"Rueben James", you won't be disappointed
Nicolè Richie is Lionel's adopted daugher she was Paris Hilton best friend for a long time they had a falling out but have since made up
Great reaction guys ❤❤
Slow dancing to this song...the best.
I remember Kenny from his days on Saturday morning TV in Houston. Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Ah, the memories.
A beautiful song.
I never reply, but u guys made my day. Watched Freddie Mercury 4 10000000th time. Wanted 2 see ur reaction. Love u both. U guys are awesome!!!! Cheered me up. Thank u❤❤❤
This song is amazing. Lionel Kenny!!
I had the biggest crush on Kenny Rogers in high school. I got to see him live at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo on my 25th birthday. The best birthday ever. He is from Houston. I still can just mellow out while listening to Kenny. ❤
Lionel and Kenny wrote this beautiful song together and it was a hit for both. Definitely check out their duet of this together ❤
Don't mess with Kenny.. RIP.. Kenny and Dolly were the best together.. Enough said.. Dolly was and still is his biggest fan.. Beautiful.
Kenny had a cold the night of this concert. Because of that, his voice was rather gruffy and made this song a little better than the studio recording.
Also, the way Lionel Richie came to write this, is a very funny story. Kenny told the story on stage during a tv show tribute to Lionel. It's on video, you should check it out, on your own time, sometime. It's about 6 1/2 minutes, if I remember right.
We saw Kenny in person twice, both times "in the round" as shown in the video... Great times.
He sings a song called morning desire and it is on a different plane. His wife is in it. I would never do karaoke either. Who remembers Kenny Rogers and the Fifth Edition.
Yeah that guy that posted it didnt get that monetized guarantee it. Also Kenny and Homefree did a great collab of Children Go Where I Send Thee just a few yrs before Kenny died. Kenny reached out to them to do that acapella...pretty cool. Kenny is definitely a legend!
The words every woman wants to hear!❤️
My fiance proposed to me with song so long ago in the 70's. I loved every moment❤ yes we're still together ❤
This song came out and I was dating my first serious girlfriend. We dated for several years and to me, she was “My Lady” and to her, I was “My Sir”. Things did not work out and we parted ways but have stayed friends. We still call each other these nicknames and smile with fond memories.
Kenny Rogers made the ladies slide off their seats in his concerts.
Great Reaction Guy's To This Great Classic Song 👍
This may be one of the most reacted to songs ever, every reactor does this song!!
Everytime I hear Kenny Rogers I think of my dad and us driving in his car when my two brothers and I were little listening to him my dad has been gone 4 years now he was 77 so thank you for the great memories
