      Since the local cable channel line up quit carrying POWERNATION, KEEP POSTING VIDEOS, miss my Sun. AM programs. Built a small block Ford using an article in Petersons Engines that made a 351 into a 410, until we were able to install a full cage it popped a few windshields, the article claimed mid 4's for HP and TQ but we never put it on a dyno to check. Fun stuff.

    I used a stock 1975 block. I tediously removed the casting flash throughout, checked for any imperfections, enlarged the oil returns and used a billet steel main stud girdle. Using custom length H-beam rods from eagle and a "hank the crank" 3.25" 4340 steel crankshaft, with ultra light JE pistons and floating pins, the engine holds 90 psi oil pressure, with no issues of oil starvation even at 8500 rpm. The stock early 302 oem blocks will handle 800 hp with the steel girdle, so the aftermarket block isn't necessary for most people. But then, mine is just for the street. lol

      @@mrschwifty5564 Depends what you want to do. To make a sub 11S drag Mustang with a 300 shot of nitrous on a stroked 351 Windsor, assuming you have a diff and trans that can withstand it already, you're looking at about 15k. But we're also talking an engine which at that point would make at least 700-800HP, and over 1400 pound feet of torque.

    17:20 I have been told that the "Stiction Elminator" oil additive is especially important to the PSD 7.3 and 6.0. That is because of the HEUI injection system. Some heavy Navistar and Cat diesels have HEUI injection, but I don't know how much they benefit from that additive.
    18:27 This is why some people spray weld a high nickel alloy on the undersized crank journals. It reduces the loss of durability in an offset ground crank. Also, it makes possible the use of standard size connecting rods. Some people will offset grind a crank, then weld the journal diameter to that of a more common engine. That enables the use of connecting rods from other engines. I have heard that SBC and BBC rods are used in some cases. Piston compression height may change, and that may mean using a different kind of piston.

I've used the sportsman T&D's but at least modified them for a gravity fed trunnion. that 550# open pressure, is that at .613" or .651"?

    • @5695q
      @5695q 4 роки тому

      The video showed the front plug not drilled but the rear drilled to control flow, as far as oil starved they put plenty of assembly lube on the components to take care of initial start, doubt they pull anything over a high idle till oil pressure comes up. Old trick is to have a pump drive to hook into a drill and run it till oil is coming out of everything that should get oiled plus pressure on gauge then install distributor.

    My apologies for being completely out of my league here, but I was just wondering why, after all of these years of block, head, and manifold production why none of the parts are channeled with heavy duty O rings instead of relying on "glued" flat gaskets with silicone ? I work in industrial HVAC with some engine driven compressors which use a variety of engines from GM 454s to Waukesha and Cat diesels converted to natural gas. All of the tech and computer monitoring, and one of the biggest nuisances are gasket leaks from factory built engines. I've worked on Honda and Nissan engines that have a lot of hours on them and they are clean. Only 1 toyota engine had a slight leak from the distributer because the o ring was dry and twisted up. The installer forgot to lube it.

    Want a 302/351 to never split? Get it internally balanced. Splitting in these blocks is caused from the main caps "walking" under high RPM loads. The reason? When these are produced they are made with an imbalance that will cause the crank to flex at high RPM loads as either end of it is weighted. When this happens it is G'night block.
    By internally balancing them on an aftermarket crank (stockers are too small) you are able to push retarded high RPM (typically safe to around 8k) and when you are using a cam and cylinder head that can take advantage of it...will make an obscene amount of power.
    Research it for yourself. Almost ALL ford splits are at/near the mains on these engines and a girdle, windage tray or even align hone will not save it because the CRANK is flexing inside the assembly. Internally balanced engine = happy days.
