    The scariest thing I've ever been in is an early 90's full cage mustang with a "twin" turbo 347. That thing put 1100 to the wheels on a bad day and I'm lucky to be here to tell you that kind of power has no place on the street! That car was just plain stupid powerful and ran 8.50's in the 1/4 mile. I can't remember the MPH, I just remember my fear factor every-time I got into that thing.... That car honestly scared the hell out of me!

    • @Resistculturaldecline
      @Resistculturaldecline 7 місяців тому +1

      600hp to the wheels in a fox body is rowdy on the street, assuming it still retains the chassis & suspension to be a nice driver and isn't predominantly a cantankerous track car.
      Such a setup on 295 drag radials won't hook up on every pavement surface until up into 3rd gear (3.73 rear gears). I think a lot of guys theorize and imagine how much excess they need and get carried away. Above the level I described, a 3200lbs Fox is really beginning to try to hurt you if some wise restraint isn't exercised. Busting tires loose at 60 mph can go bad really quickly

    • @Finite-Tuning
      @Finite-Tuning 7 місяців тому

      @@Resistculturaldecline:
      I don't remember the exact tire anymore, but skinnies up front and 10" in the rear. It was a built car, full cage, K member, frame connected, QA1 coilovers, ect. But yes, 3rd gear 60mph that thing just loved to go sideways! On the strip it would leave on 2 wheels, but on the street it always seemed like it was wearing 2 pairs of roller skates. It was a cool car, just friggin scary.

    The one single that I love about my V8 Henry's is that the first rebuild is on ford, due to the gudgeon pin offset the factory built into those magnificent motors. This offset allows for the pistons dwell point can be moved from after 0 degrees crank relative position, to a few degrees before 0 degrees indicated. This started the power stroke early also apearing to be a buffer to pingings negative effects whilst utilising the violent increase in combustion chamber pressure as an increase in total torque production . Camshaft valve timing events require recalculation due to change in piston dwell.

  • @brian5606
    @brian5606 4 роки тому +2

    Another combo probably worth noting being a dart block was sourced out is the use of the 4.125" bore block with the same deck height as this one and the use of a 3.250" crank coming out to the same ci at 347. Being the engine is an air pump getting airflow in and out of the engine is paramount. By using the bigger bore block you can utilize a bigger valve in the head making for easier airflow for the turbo to build HP. The shorter stroke makes high-rpm easier to get a better HP number up high. With the top-notch valve train components used in this engine, high-rpm, excluding the cam and rollers this motor should make it's goal of 1200-1250 HP at the crank.

    • @davidrogers5219
      @davidrogers5219 4 роки тому

      4.125" bore block with a 3.250" stroke and a 5.40" rod length as a lot less rod angle also. Less piston to cylinder wall wear. A lot better way of getting the same cubic inches out of a 8.20" deck height 302 block. And it pretty much cost the same.

    Richard Holdener disproved the "302 falls apart at 600hp" myth with many power adder combinations. Turbos, two types of superchargers, and nitrous were used and al combos made over 600 crank hp with multiple pulls.

    • @vengeanceizmine9878
      @vengeanceizmine9878 4 роки тому +1

      It happens over time. If all it jad to make is a few dyno pulls, it'll be fine. Do it every weekend, see how long it lasts. I have taken stock blocks of many different brands, and pushed limits passed what iy should handle, and they live. But they arw grudge engines and not bracket engines.
      Also, you can't compare engine stress from power with a turbo to nitrous or N/A.. not the same. Turbos are very easy on parts...
      And lastly, promoting a magazine tech editor on how you should build an engine isn't wise lol. Just sayin'..

    Back in 1983, I had a Boss 351 that had around 425 HP and spun a clean 8,200 RPMs. Could you build a Cleveland style engine with same style heads, same bore and stroke, and similar compression of 11.7:1, but no less that 11:1 putting out 500 HP and spinning a clean 8,200 RPMs for a canyon running engine that would rival a Ferrari V12? Naturally aspirated, but could have a fuel injection system without rails.

    If you're going to run race gas in it, why not keep the compression higher?

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 5 років тому +2

      High Compression is not always the answer with boost. Too much compression has diminishing returns. It depends on the boost level. Since this is an N/A engine originally you will benefit more from a drop in static ratio than an increase. This keeps the need for higher and higher octane fuels in-check as well.

    • @3800TURBO
      @3800TURBO 5 років тому

      This engine has 2019 spec alloy heads and pistons in it. Im 100% sure itll handle 10.0:1 or more on pump gas and turn 1k with far less boost than they are going to need with 8.8:1. I would understand if they were using factory original type pistons and cast iron heads but the alloys suck heat from the chamber.

    • @joshtheking1772
      @joshtheking1772 5 років тому

      Why? With a street car it needs to idle and be able to run in variable rpms just like stop and go traffic. In the dyno cell its wide open throttle to 6k then back to idle. On the street it's a different story. Personally, I dont like sitting at idle on the street at around 215 degrees on the coolant temp. After 215 degrees you start cooking oil. That's spells doom for a turbo when the oil starts to get above 225 degrees.

I won't deny that the block will crack but it is not associated to a specific hp mark it is due to the internal harmonics of the block. By having the block and rotating assembly Professionally balanced plus running tune to keep the RPM'S low the stock 302 block can see around and over 800hp reliably.
