I have always heard that when there is a crack it will collect graphite or the debris of metal coming off of the center of the cap into that crack and cause a short or a pre ignition spark on something. But they are vented
Yea for some reason aftermarket or ac Delco caps my distributor was cracking them this last has been good for a couple of years now so I have no idea what was causing it

Yea I get that only when I replaced the hole distributor I had to leave the distributor bolt a little loose and turn it I little in both directions til that code went away maybe your just needs turned a little one way or the other to clear it up

Check engine light with it?
Yea misfire codes random misfire cuase the spark goes all over not where its supposed to my truck seems to eat caps at least 1 a year
