Rob Bell defends his interpretation of the Bible in "Love Wins" and denies that his view are heretical or non-evangelical.
Rob Bell is the founding pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church, Grandville Michigan. His latest book "Love Wins: Heaven, Hell and the fate of every person who ever lived" has ignited a theological firestorm. He debated the issues with UK Church blogger Adrian Warnock on Justin Brierley's UK faith discussion radio show "Unbelievable?" in April 2011.

Rob, I am glad you wrote your book, it has caused alot of people to examine the traditional church doctrine, which really needed to be done.

Given time more people will discover that many of our medieval interpretations didn't reflect what the original biblical text meant. Rob just found that earlier and remains courageous. And not alone.
To truly know the interpretation of the scriptures look up Daniel b Wallace! You could learn some things!
The other guy's argument is: hell is important to us, don't take that away from us!

@djcg I just went to the Hebrew/Greek Lexicon and I couldn't find one use of the word "aeon" in the Bible. Even if it is used, the meaning of the word is "eternal" or "forever." It means both "life" and "forever" or "eternal." We literally have a word that translates into eternal life. I really hope you won't take the view of the Word of God being falible as the other guy I'm debating has. Ultimately, you have to decide to side with Scripture or Rob Bell.
I dnt see what is so difficult for people to understand, Rob Bell is not the first to say this things I remember very well Preston Eby mentioned this things. Main stream Christianity profits from the fear of the people that is why they've rejected the text in it's true form and meaning.

@henryforshaw I've listened and it lacks any biblical evidence. The verses used are taken out of both the context of the passage and out of the context of the Bible in general. If you'd like to try tripping me up with verses, be my guest. Otherwise, you're wasting your time calling me a bigot and not a truth-seeker.
I like to know what Rob Bell intends to do when Satan shows up in his room. Love him out of existence?

@henryforshaw Probably because you were told that by someone like Rob Bell. If you really want to know what the word means, go to Bible college and learn Greek and Hebrew. Don't rely on people like this to tell you how the Bible should or shouldn't be translated. If it's mistranslated, why do all the translations translate it the same way?

You people are hilarious. You actually believe that YOU have the entire complexity of the Christian gospel figured out? & why is that? Is it because you've gone to church your entire life to listen to another man's interpretation of scripture? or is it because you were alive in the days of the earliest Christian orthodox church? Do some research on your beliefs, and please know which doctrines to discard,
I would love for Rob Bell to give some scripture to back this up for once..
He won't give full scriptures in full context and according to the origional languages! Because he is in error and decieved!

@Drummerboiz19 nope. forever is a very poor translation from the Greek word "aeon". aeon has this deep, nuanced understanding of always existing, always has existed and always will exist.
Why don't you show what you said from the actual lexicon theirselves.

Rob is only bringing up ideas that were rejected a long long time ago, there is nothing new or revolutionary about his teaching.
Compromising the gospel for the sake of contemporary culture is just weakening the gospel, contemporary culture is often the very thing that people need to be set free from.
The desire to combat extreme 'hell fire and brimstone' Christianity is a valid one, gutting the gospel to do it? not so much.
@henryforshaw Did you know that 2 Timothy 3:16 says all Scripture is God-breathed? Did you know that John 1 says in the beginning was the Word, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us? I'm not a bigot. You're a heretic. The fact that you simply say an argument looks "compelling" and continue to stand by it is absolutely terrifying. Unless you have Scriptural evidence to back up what you are saying (keep in mind they have to go along with what I already posted), don't call me a bigot.
Citing the bible to prove the bible is circular logic. You can't prove that the bible is true by reading a passage that says it's true anymore than you can prove that you're innocent of a crime because you say you are.
@Drummerboiz19 Did you even read what I wrote. If you could listen to the other side of the argument you wouldn't believe such crap. "the bible being the word of God is a minority view amongst biblical scholars." Become a truth seeker and realise that God is love.
What part of, "I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me, " doesn't Mr Bell understand?
Maybe the part where people who are sincere and aren't given the opportunity to know this are cast away and tortured forever. So basically 80 percent of people who ever lived.

@henryforshaw If that's the direction you'll keep coming from, I can only pray for you. Once we step away from the Bible, it's easy to make God in our own image. I can only hope and pray you realize that you're wrong, repent of your sins and turn to Christ. God bless.
Do you realize that you're doing the exact same thing you're accusing him of? You're reading a certain book and interpreting it a certain way and making this God based on that image.

Rob bell is in serious error concerning the scriptures! Two people for you to look at to prove my point is Daniel b Wallace and Michael Mcclymond. Those two guys are "real" "unbiased" true scholars who really know the scriptures and church history extremely well! Rob bell is a joke when it comes to true scholarism when it comes to the scriptures and church history! That's why he won't debate any "true" scholars!
I love how Rob Bell does not once reference Scripture to defend his theology but instead referenced his own "knowledge and study". Pride caused the fall...please dont follow this false prophet! Rely on Scripture ALONE!!
