A bit messy but a good summary of the story of the band. It's good that you show that for quite some time, ATDI was mainly Cedric and Jim which is something many fans just don't know or forget. That's why many don't understand why Jim left the band and say that he was useless to the band anyway.
I think it's pretty sad that Jim left and his departure is cruelly obvious on their recent lackluster effort. I read many fans saying ATDI is mainly Cedric and Omar which is totally wrong, it's the Mars Volta. When you listen the first few records of ATDI wich were written by Jim and Omar, you can hear the basics of what ATDI would become. Omar only brought the finishing touch to the songs later. Without Jim, I can't hear ATDI, I hear a Mars Volta record with Tony and Paul added to the mix.
My assumption is that Omar and Cedric came with the album already written and Jim got offended not to be part of the songwriting process. It apparently already happened just before as they wrote by themselves a new ATDI album which would become Antemasque. It was probably refused by Jim. Anyway, it's only my assumptions, I should just stop there!

I agree. Jim and Cedric erected at the drive-in. And they did well. I wish I could’ve seen them for their reunion when Jim was still in the mix.

Jim left because he suffers from intense anxiety... he'd left before (El Gran Orco)
Cedric had written some songs that were to be new ATDI which did end up on Antemasque (Providence for sure was meant to be new ATDI)
Jim got as far as getting to the studio and backed out last minute when the reality of touring etc hit
He owns a couple of El Paso venues and has a family and just didn't want to be in a big band, he then hand picked Keeley (formerly of Sparta)
      At least according to Cedric

Jim previously treated his anxiety with some major self medication and I think now as an "adult" that option didn't seem available.
My favorite Jim intoxicated story is the recording of AT. I haven't watched this video yet, I hope its mentioned..

The reason Acrobatic Tenement sounds so cool is because Jim "forgot" to use distortion pedal thinking it was just a scratch track.
I love the sound of that album....so aggressive yet clean.

He is awesome , although I saw atdi in Vegas without him and they were amazing , but I was very let down by Sparta in Seattle , was barely any energy ,not what expected at all, and didn’t even play cut your ribbon which is biggest song

I think you are right in a way....he's the heart Cedric is the nervous system Omar is the delusional brain but it's a shame jim left man. That next album would have been their opus. I know he left because the direction....like if you listen to those first two Sparta albums...you can tell...you can tell...

1:21:50 I think I speak for a lot of fans when I say, I'd love to hear more of whatever came out those early 2016 rehearsals Jim was apart of before he split again. They were capturing something so catastrophically brilliant in that small clip, even if it's just some warm up or whatever. I want more 😭

Got a chance to talk to Jim like a year after ATDI came back with Keeley. He was not happy that I brought them up. Bummer that they had a second split. Jim is definitely a big part of that band.

Nice to see this, I haven't saw some of the videos, especially the interview with Jim, that was intense. I really love ATDI because it's not just a band that Omar and Ced had when they were young, it's a band of friends who've managed to made a living out of music, which is a dream of mine as well, I really don't get why people don't like Inter Alia that much, to me it's a great comeback record, Jim still is a hero but he didn't wanted to do it because of his own reasons, and Keeley is awesome, that's why it's worked.

I got into them (their music) in the era when information about how things are going on were kind of limited. I read some reviews in underground zine, got one black&white picture of them and had no idea who's who tbh. I remember how surprised I was when after some time it appeared to me that cerdic is main singer and there is another guy(s) who does backing vocals. After years all I can say is that I like to think about atdi as of the band of friends INCLUDING Jim Ward. Thats all.

I love that at Big Day Out in Sydney, Australia, in 2001, on top of a stage with "The Wiggles" logo on it, with a cut short 3-song setlist, these dude kicked the dicks off of most other bands before or after. Just fucking incredible.

At the Drive In' is Jim Ward's idea. Jim started bands. It got more serious after he took the talented vocalist Cedric into the band. Jim spent his college savings to start a DIY record company. Then he could release ATDI first EP 'Hell Paso'.Then he worked as a waiter for half a year to buy a Kombi with which the band went on their first tours. This is about determination, about Jim's heart and Jim's Cohones!Jim was a very important member of the band from the beginning until Relationship of Command as an author and in my opinion a much more important guitarist than Omar in ATDI. At the concerts he often kept things from falling apart. I'm a guitarist and I know what I'm talking about. It's very hard to keep a band together when Omar is on drugs at 90% of time and completely out of tune and make demage and bad noise to rest of the band. The sound man often had to turn off his amp completely - But Cedic fell in love with Omar. And in 2016, when the Reunion ATDI was announced, the afro twins told Jim that he would not participate as authors in the new album because Ego maniac Omar used to work like that in the Mars Volta and that money should be taken while it is still possible - and Jim always had problems with such an approach and always said that as soon as money enters the band as the main reason, he leaves the band. And of course after such an O&C statement he left ATDI- BUT again a month before the tour!! NOT as Cedric lied - the day before the tour! (I heard all this in the only interview in which Jim talked about 2016.) So the last album sucks hard. No Jim's right punk hand, no his open chords.no Punk screams that were so important to ATDI-Everyone knows: Cut away, Cut away-it's Jim Ward .No Jim Word's song's.No Punk is simple.Only Omar's egomaniac trip in the studio and some of Cedic's good moments, but very rare. To me, In • ter a • li • a is by far the worst album from ATDI. And of course they fell apart, from the tour they took the money-(Ofcourse Omar and Cedric more then rest of the band?!) goal stretched out, just how? They should be ashamed. Jim Ward recorded two much better albums during that period. And he remained a good man - which is much more important. And Jim in everything, though without money in his pocket, remained fair and remained a Man of his word.
