How to enter Service mode (secret menu) Breville Oracle Touch BES990 and Barista Touch BES880

- Update: BES881 Touch Impress code is 02015. Same method as other machines, off at the wall for a few seconds. Hold power button and as it's held turn in the power at wall.
This will help you accessing error codes on your Breville Barista and Oracle Touch machine and diagnosing any issues, and shows you how much the machine has been used etc. Cool little secret menu and useful for repairers
Alternative approach to accessing the BES990 service menu: (1) Unplug the machine from the wall, (2) hold down power button, (3) plug machine back into the wall, (4) keep power button held down until password window appears, (5) use 00000 for password (5 zeroes). This works for my ~2019 BES990 running software version A1.4 (120v). Cheers
Thank you. That's what worked for me.
Great video thank-you! I just got a Sage BES880 here in the UK and the new method works on this one. It's software vB1.1 (EU). Not sure how much changes in the softwares on these. Plenty to learn now, the Delonghi it's replaced was well into 8k coffees so hoping this will outperform that!
Hi. Good video. Do you know how to enter service menu on non touch models. Barista Max VCF126X. Of course there will be not statistics, but I would like to turn on pump without boiler for better leak debugging...
So you know what the tamper setting in the grind debug screen means. It is set (pre set) to 5.
This video really isn’t clear at the most crucial part…
I have a question, in the hidden service mode I compare two barista touch models with each other. In the live debug one of them gets higher on the point LD04 e-fast value ? What does it mean ?
How to enter the service mode/menu on Sage Touch model SES880 BSS /C ?
The second method in the video should work!
Great video - do you know what/how to fix a touchscreen for these as mine is suddenly switching around between settings without any touch
Hi Peter, I've changed a couple of screens in the past due to similar behaviour. Unfortunately it can happen out of nowhere, but sometimes may also be due to moisture (either on the outside from wet hands, or inside from steam or water leaks). Changing the screen is done by changing the entire front panel. I believe it was 200 dollars here in Australia when I did it. The front panel houses part of the motherboard maybe that's why it's expensive. Repair isn't too difficult just a couple of screws holding panel down, and a few cables (be sure to take a photo of cables before you unplug them to avoid confusion).
Owning a BES990 i had to plug off the machine while being switched on. Waited some seconds and press plus holding the on button while plug in the power cable.
After this action the machine seemed to have no backup power and pressing the ON button for at least 5seconds put me into the hidden menu.
There is a Tamper adjustment available, it is set on 5. i did not try to adjust it. What can be adjusted by this option?
Ah interesting, where was the tamper setting? I couldn't find it
@@caffeinefix2751 It is in the live debug if you change over to the grinder page
@@redshirt256 I just tried it on my 2017 Oracle Touch, it didn't save the tamp settings unfortunately, it stays at 5 if I turn off the machine and turn it back on. I still have no way of truly changing the tamp duration and force on the 990, on the 980 is was very easy.
I had my machine making loud buzzing noise and was wondering if it’s the solenoid?
Firmware A1.4 here on the 990, bought late 2021, but prob older - the package was dusty as ...
Hello everybody, I have two Sage Touch SES 880. one has Firmware 1.1 the other one 1.2 . Is there a newer one, where can I download the firmware? Is there a difference between 1.1 and 1.2 - thx 🙏
I haven't done a firmware update so far, but I do know if you open the machine and expose the front panel, there's a usb port in there.
@@caffeinefix2751 ok thank you. But do you know or have an idea where I can found a firmware for download ?
Does the oracle touch have an advanced menu to change spotlight brightness/steam temp like the non-touch version?
Thank you
I got a 2020 oracle touch...... now it just giving me hot milk but no froth..... any ideas how to fix/clean (the wond is clean and the 4 holes are not clogged)
Hi. I had a "problem" with my Barista touch, where it kept showing me steam wand blocked, but the nozzle was open. Then out of desperation I took the tip out and cleaned it out with a toothpick from the inside. A small piece of clogged milk, about the size of a grain of sugar came out, and problem solved.
So even if you look through the holes, and they all appear to be open, make sure the nozzle is 100% clean.
Do you happen to know if there is a similar service mode for the Breville Toaster Ovens?
not to my knowledge as I only specialise in coffee machine repairs, sorry
Hi, in Steam Boiler I see that temp is all the time 44 Celsius degree and do not heat up. The coffee boiler is ok, 92 degree. Issue appeared during descaling. I thinking that stream boiler is empty - how can I fill it or should I send to service ?
Sorry to hear, I think your steam boiler may be broken. It's a common issue after descaling. Yes a service centre would be a good idea
I had this same issue. The machine was not rising to temp. I put it in service mode and it started working.
@@caffeinefix2751 hi, issue was fixed. How? I put coffee machine on different side and somehow after 5th attempt steam boiler start working normal. Nevertheless thanks a lot for your reply👍👏👏
Any idea what Startup Error Code ER03 on a BES880 is about? I have a friend with one oit of warranty and doesnt want to sendit back to Breville for repairs. I want to know what im getting myself into before tryung to fix it up for him ( i have heaps of experience working on Barista Express's)
I wish there was a way to change pre infusion time
How do you exit the secret menu? TIA
Thanks for this video. Do you know if documentation is available online for the 990? I would love to find the schematics, parts lists, and P& ID to fix one that I just picked up
Not to my knowledge, I'm sure they exist behind locked doors for Breville engineers but haven't seen any online. Feel free to ask here or on the Breville forums/FB page and we'll try our best
Got a Breville Touch Impress, can get to the service screen but cant get in with the 00000 code. Does it use a different one?
02015
Do anyone knows what temperature of steam boiler should be?
@@konradbokwa 130 default. Changeable to 120 or up to 140 if I remember correctly
@@caffeinefix2751 TU. My steam boiler is overheating to 160 and group boiled doesn't heat at all. One o-ring was streaming and triac board is dameged probably.
Can you do something similar for the touch impress? The service mode loads on that machine, but it asks for a name instead of a code...
Check the video description, they've done something cheeky and changed the password for the touch impress
@@caffeinefix2751 tnx!!! that worked, sorry, totally missed that =)
When you say “turn it on” do you mean plug it in?
Yes, either plug it, or press the button at the wall outlet
Is there a way to adjust brew pressure?
On this model no, but it's usually set to the max of about 9 to 10 bars which is perfect. You change the pressure by changing the coffee grind size. If you're getting low pressure and quick flow rate it may mean your beans are old or grind size too fine
@@caffeinefix2751 I’m talking 9bar
I'm assuming 'turn it on' means 'plug it in'
We have buttons at the outlets in Australia so yeah you could plug it in for the same effect
Hi I'm trying to repair a SES990 touch that's not coming up to temp to make coffee. In debug mode the LD01 & LD02 get to 93C. In user mode it does no report higher than 70C.
Any ideas? Many thanks.
Did you descale and now having that issue? If so unplug the machine, remove water reservoir, front tray and be sure bean lid is very secure. Put the machine on the floor facing a place where you can tilt it forward until it is at a 45 degree angle (use something to protect the wall and the machine). Let it set at least an hour, overnight is best. Then tilt back till it is at a 30 degree angle (the back 5 inches or so off the floor, still tilted forward with the top toward the wall. A shoebox works nicely to support the machine. While it is at a 30 degree angle put enough water in the reservoir so that it is full but not spilling out at the same 30 degree tilted angle. Insert the reservoir while everything is at the 30 degree angle. Put the machine gently level ( no need to wait after inserting the water reservoir). Plug it in, turn it on, hope fully the pump engages. Have a good amount of water on hand to top fill the water as the pump is running.
@@charlespaclik2097 Thanks for your suggestion. I also have a machine not wanting to activate the pump after descaling the 990 in Denmark. Trying your tilt suggestion now.
Sometimes it reaches 93 deg - sometimes it does not. If it does the steamwand will function properly but the water pump and the brewing does not.
You said avoid Descaling.. So no descaling process needed for this model or not? Thanks in advance.
If you change the water filter on time, no it's not required to descale. Avoid decsale as it can break the steam boiler or maybe create some buzzing noises in the solenoid
I am having buzzing sounds and now also machine not reaching 205 degrees to brew so I changed temperature down to 195
Do I need to change solenoid to keep machine from making loud buzzing noise?
Also how do you exit secret mode and get back to regular settings? Thanks
Hi. I can get into service mode with my BES990 but 5 O's does not work (upper and lower tried). Is this something you can help with or do I need to call Breville? Thanks!
Never-mind. I'm in.
@@robco1222its five zeros haha! Nice
Doesn't work on s990 2023 model. 😢
I've tried it personally on the 2023 model and it worked. What happens when you try to do it?
I have an oracle touch that is 3 weeks old. When you turn on the machine, the water pump starts up and pumps all of the water. Plug and unplug still pumps all the water out. Do you think this can be fixed in the service mode?
Hi Ed, when you say pumps, you mean through the group head/hot water spout and you see it coming out? Or pumps to the boilers?
@@caffeinefix2751 through the group head into the collection tray
@@edgorey7314 ahh that's a motherboard issue unfortunately. Possible that the machine has been assembled improperly and has leaked a bit causing this short circuiting, or it could be a bad motherboard. I've seen it a couple of times before
@@caffeinefix2751 thank you for taking time out to reply. The machine is heading back to Breville, this will be our third machine in 6 months. :( love the coffee hate the technology.
I have Breville barista touch it’s about 2 months old and in the service menu showed error code er15 communication code. Do you know what that’s is?
Not exactly sure, could be a random glitch, motherboards can harbour these unexpected gremlins or could be due to a leak? However, I’ve sold used units in the past that had the communication error (I cleared the error and tested the machine before the sale, no issues). So if you have the error but zero symptoms, I wouldn’t worry
Thanks for the reply. I am definitely enjoying great espresso every day.
Hi, would you know how to enter service mode for barista pro?
Hi, unfortunately I'm not sure how to. I have the same question on my mind
Nope not working on mine
Impossible, have you tried the first AND second method?
@@caffeinefix2751also not on mine. I dont know what Model version i have but its the Oracle Touch BS990 /F
it doesnt react on holding the on button but instantly turns on after pressing the button. Holding longer doesnt have any effect.
@@kaluabox impossible, I've never seen this! looks like you have the newer version. Firstly unplug it from the wall, Press the button a few times to drain the electricity inside the machine, wait 10 seconds, then hold the button then as you're holding plug it back and keep it held until screen turns on
@@caffeinefix2751 heyhey. It worked. i guess i misunderstood the "turn off". I Got software version 1.6A. Thanks for the help !
