You have restored my confidence, I want to try the settings and beans you recommended. You are the second person to recommend the La Colombe coffee beans, I am excited to try the Nizza blend (bc the winter toast link you provided is invalid now). I have now realized that I have been wrong all along Lol. But yea thank you so much!! (I'm going to also steal your beans container, it's so cute)
I have this model there is a learning process using it. I felt the manual was good and informative. We love this machine saving money and getting a great cup of espresso.
Nice video! I found a stainless steel dosing cup from Crema Coffee Products that fits below the grinder so I collect all the grounds and then I put the portafilter over it and turn upside down. After a few knocks on a rubber mat all the grounds settle in so it’s easier to press. Main reason was just not to waste any and as you said, you need all of it ! Thanks for this review !

I also have my machine sitting on a bar mat just for added cleanliness and you won't have to continue using that small towel anymore!
@gailoakley4010 I have the Breville Touch also that I bought two months ago, but mine didn't come with a dosing funnel. I wonder why😡....I ordered one on Amazon waiting on it to arrive. Great video! Thanks for the tips! It definitely has been a learning experience!

I think we got lemon breville barista touch. Less than a year and we had to send the machine for repair three times. Milk temp sensor repair, brew component repair, and now the brewing time seems to be wacko.
Thank you. This video is very helpful. I got the machine a few weeks ago. I have not used it because I am super busy and have not gotten time to learn about the settings. I will try your advice. Question, can those setting be programmed, Do you have videos of other kinds of coffees? Thank you and have a good one. :)
This was very helpful! Thank you @Lauren :) Do you have any other setting recommendations for the other pre-programmed coffees, the Americano, Latte or Cappuccino?
7:17 instead of this mess just push the handle in and it will stop grinding the beans, then temp it a little and twist and then take the handle and push to grind the rest
Would you say this machine is good to make cappuccinos and lattes? Because I have your same machine and nothing comes out right. This machine is difficult. What machine would you recommend for Cappuccinos and Lattes?
Would not go out of my way to purchase unless something happened to this machine! Yes in the end would be nice to have, but totally not necessary once you get past the learning curve!
Thank you so much. Your videos definitely gave me the encouragement I need to purchase a breville because there are so many reddit posts claiming the machine touch screen or parts break very quickly
Thank you so very much! I went from a Keurig 😂 to an Nespresso 😅.. I was considering a DeLonghi, or a Phillips automatic espresso machine, but after talking to a friend who is a barista and watching your video I am now considering this machine. I am super excited, hoping for it to be a Christmas/birthday present. I have a favorite coffee shop that I love to go to , and I would love to duplicate that at home. 🙏🏼 I am sure with all of your tips and tricks and my friends help I will be able to enjoy the same cup at home. I wish there were more appliance reviews like this, in general. Everything works great at unboxing. How does it work when the warranties have run out. (Oh, and her kitchen is gawgeous)
Ich own this machine for 4 1/2 years now, pull 4 to 5 espresso shots daily and let it spill about 2-3 liters of hot water for tea each day, don't have a filter installed as I use only filtered water and never had the slightest problem with it. I definitely would get it again. I also have the new touch impress now, but I think the build quality of the older one is slightly better.
Good question!! I would get the newest version of the breville oracle touch! Having a machine grind, dose, and tamp would be great! Plus having the added features. Totally not necessary but really gorgeous coffee machine
It depends on how often I use the milk steamer! That’s when it dispenses a lot of water to clear out the tube! If you’re just drinking espresso or not using the steamer, maybe have to clean it every other week
This video was so helpful! My parents got one in November and I ended up getting one for myself the beginning of December. I was making the worst shots. Getting a little better at it, but still working on grind size and finding the best coffee beans.
Hello! Great video! I plan on using the starbucks espresso beans for latte as that's my favorite as I like Dark Roast and the Starbucks latte taste. What number should I dial in for that?
The Starbucks beans don’t work with this machine. I’ve tried so many times and can’t pull a good shot because the beans are not fresh. Never works well and always taste super bitter or sour.
@@LaurenColvin Do you think having them grind the beans and using it as ground coffee would help? or does it still taste off? I don't mind bitter as starbucks espresso is a bit bitter. However I don't want sour
@@LaurenColvin thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. Hey do you have a link for the coffee that you use? I know you need to use fresh coffee beans in order to get the best espresso.
Lauren I love this video, thank you so much for making it. It is one of my most watched videos on the Breville Barestia Touch. I just received this for Christmas and I love it. I have a question though, I know you use the same coffee bean all the time, do you have to redial in your machine every time you start a new bag even though it’s the same bean?
Thank you so much for the sweet comment! ❤️ Can you specify more on what you mean by redialing? Usually me having the same bean/switching around I can keep the same settings and not have to worry too much with it! It usually comes out perfect each time!
Lauren thank you so much for responding to me so quickly. The grind size and the amount of beans you grind is what I was talking about. I was hoping you were going to say you kept everything the same, lol! Thank you again so much.❤
You can’t use pods ! You can brew hot water for hot chocolate and you can froth milk for chai lattes but it’s not a flavor setting on the machine. The machine has no flavor components just frothing milk, brewing espresso, and hot water so you can make whatever drink you want but you have to purchase the items to create the drink with the machine
Good Day Lauren just found your video and really love the helpful starting tips> Have just ordered the same machine and LeColombe Nizza Beans. Can you tell me the final grind setting you ended up with for your daily use? Hopefully that will shorten my trail and error learning period. Thanks
Hi! I use size 11 grind size! The beans usually last me about two weeks of daily use. As they get less fresh i change the grind size down a notch for a finer grind and a slower pour. I notice that as the beans get less fresh sometimes the shot pours too quickly! I probably modify grind size after a week or 10 days! But it’s all based on what I see when I watch the shot pour! Hope that helps but, please let me know if you have any other questions!
I had a nespresso machine for two years before this machine and I did love it but I wanted an upgrade! I love this machine so much more than the nespresso the espresso is soooo much better!
Me and my mom bought my dad this exact machine for Christmas this year and at first it seemed to be making good pulls but after a little bit the volume of the shot was smaller and smaller and I could tell it wasn’t right. I was playing around with it and used the settings you recommended here and it’s making absolutely no quantity of espresso, just some drips at the end of the pull. I’m quite frustrated but am very determined to figure it out! Any advice? Edit: further wanted to add that i reset the machine and it’s settings made a “decent” shot meaning there was some volume plus crema but it was still quite small and didnt taste good/right. making me think it might have to do with either the water or the beans themselves (which are fresh), i dont know what to do :(
Sounds like something might be wrong with the water pressure! I would try pulling “an espresso shot” without packing the portafilter first and see if you could better see the issue!
Curious if you got it figured out? Mine seems to be doing the same thing. I’m no professional, as I’ve only had it 3 days. So I’m sure it’s user error lol
@@ashleybutler3644 Got my machine yesterday and the first shot or two were fine but now I have the same issue here. Did you figure it out by any chance?
@@nicolewebb4823 I was able to sort it out. It ended up being a combination of to much coffee (I got a scale to measure correctly), too fine grinding, and improper tamping. Mostly just getting more experience and learning more about what I am doing fixed it for me.
My problem with this thing is that when it initially comes out it’s black for a few seconds then looks right. I noticed the jump cut in the video, do you run into this as well?
Are you using single walled cup? Or pressurized double walled? single or double shot size cup? Usually, Lavazza in non-pressurized cup aren't fresh enough to make a good shot, so I'm curious how you are getting a good result with those beans!
Right but you know how it comes with 4 baskets? Just wondering of the two double shot baskets, is it the dual or single walled? It would say dual on the bottom if it’s the dual.
Does it have options for Alternative Milks like Soy, Almond and Oat? I have seen that such settings are missing in the Sage Versions but I think it is in the Breville Models in Australia.
It doesn’t produce milk/have that option. you provide your milk of choice to steam and you can adjust the steam temp and the froth consistency depending on how you like it!
@@LaurenColvin I know that but the Australian Version has, on the touch screen, the option to specify Milk or Soy or Almond or Oat and it will adjust the frothing time and Temperature accordingly.
You really should be using 18 gram dose with 30-36 out. You can buy a funnel to prevent all that spillage. I use a distributer and a preset tamper and my coffee is perfect for me now.
Do you know how much this machine weighs? I want to fly international with it to my new home. Espresso machine and vitamix are my two heavy would love to take items. thanks...
I just purchased my Breville but when I make expresso the coffee temperature is warm at best at only 140 degrees. I put the temperature of the brew to level 4 the hottest temp but still comes out warm. Any suggestions on how to increase temperature?
Maybe if you are in a cold climate area the pipes of the machine are cold and make the hot liquids running through colder? Do you use milk? If so Increase your milk temp. If not try run brew without coffee for a few seconds beforehand into an empty cup to get some hot water running through your machine to heat the pipes up. I’m not too sure but just trying to help with ideas
Shame u didn’t wait until the Barista Touch Impress came out - it calculates dosing, tamping and extraction time for u - would of saved u a lot of trial and error - but of course how would u know the next model up from yours would have those features - but I have it and it pulls the perfect shot consistently - the only time it will have to recalibrate the settings is when I change beans - it’s amazing 🤩
I recently purchased one (like a week ago) on sale at William Sonoma for a great price. I went right down the rabbit hole. Went through two bags today and still did not produce a tasty result. I think I over complicated it. Using the scale, overly-timing shots, etc. Shrug
That’s when I would see how your shot is pulling. Is it took quick? Too thin? From there adjust your grind size. Make sure enough grinds are coming out, modify how your tampering! All factors in pulling the espresso shot
You’ve mastered patience with this machine! Lol there’s so many steps and details I don’t think I would be able to deal early in the morning... I just want my nespresso which is an easy tap away 🤣
so i followed your setting exactly and when i ground the coffee it barely filled it half way? also my coffee did not come out golden like yours. It came out dark and watery and not a thick stream. What did I do wrong?
ok what size do you reccomend? i did the size that you recommended in the video, not sure how we have same machine and same setting with two outcomes, your crema is so nice, mine was nothing like it@@LaurenColvin
Could be the style of beans you are using, I would toggle with the settings and do trial and error. Are your beans fresh? Do you have enough ground beans in the portofilter before packing, is it coming out too slow? All things to consider
This was super helpful! I was going to buy this machine this weekend and your instructions were very informative. Do you have any bean brands that are your favorite besides the one you mentioned in your video?
I’m so glad it was helpful! I’ve tried others that are local to me as well but it’s easy to have the subscription to la colombe because it comes right to my door ever two weeks! I’ve tried blue bottle coffee beans subscription and the beans are very very strong and sometimes make me shaky so I definitely prefer la colombe
I thought I was the only one having this problem. I tried using the exact same grind size and time setting that Lauren is using and while hers over fills the portafilter, mine only fills it half way. I went out and purchased a scale to weigh out 18 grams.
Maybe you have a different model? Or is it the same? I have the same model and mine slightly overfills the double shot portafilter and right now it’s on grind size 10 for 17 seconds
Thankyou for this video I’m about to purchase this machine - and I’ve spent hours studying what it’s capable of, I’d be tempted to purchase a 54mm funnel so there is no spillage and you can also use the tamp with it too, big Thankyou for the video, if it all goes wrong when it arrives, look out for my comment please 😂 x x.
A dosing funnel would have made the grinding process much easier. Also, the puck cannot be pressed too hard according to a scientific expert barista. And a scale is a must. Still, I enjoyed your video and appreciate the tips for setup. Thanks.

Are you using single walled cup? Or pressurized double walled? single or double shot size cup? Usually, Lavazza in non-pressurized cup aren't fresh enough to make a good shot, so I'm curious how you are getting a good result with those beans!
What is your grind settings and brew time set to? I love these beans but only get a few good shots and they are never consistent!
Thank you for your review , I liked it ! ... I think that there should be a less painful way to tamp the coffee ! ...
Are you using the single or dual wall basket? Thanks!
its the double shot basket! I find it works best
Right but you know how it comes with 4 baskets? Just wondering of the two double shot baskets, is it the dual or single walled? It would say dual on the bottom if it’s the dual.
Oh now I understand! Sorry about that! I’m using the single walled :)
What should I do if my shots are pulling watery
Maybe a finer grind and tamp down firm and flat to remove any air pockets
Does it have options for Alternative Milks like Soy, Almond and Oat? I have seen that such settings are missing in the Sage Versions but I think it is in the Breville Models in Australia.
It doesn’t produce milk/have that option. you provide your milk of choice to steam and you can adjust the steam temp and the froth consistency depending on how you like it!
@@LaurenColvin I know that but the Australian Version has, on the touch screen, the option to specify Milk or Soy or Almond or Oat and it will adjust the frothing time and Temperature accordingly.
@@ckristianzoli8492 that’s so cool! there’s no option on this machine for that!
the new Barista Touch Impress has those options
Do you know where you got your little espresso cup? Thanks!
It’s from Etsy! I just checked and it looks like the seller doesn’t sell them anymore but if you type in ‘ceramic espresso cups’ there are tons! :)
After watching this video I’m ready to buy my baristatouch! lol ❤❤
Lauren, what is your setting for brew? 18 sec?
I have it set for double, I believe it stops between 25-28 seconds!
What is your favorite bean size grind and tempt ect that you’ve found is the best?
@@annettemartin9985 I have it on grind size 11! You can see my settings on the screen when I start the tutorial :)
I think burr 4 - Grind size 11
@@annettemartin9985really depends on the beans. Mines on 10 now but I always fine tune when I swap to different beans
thank you so much
You should get the new Breville Dosing Funnel, no more mess 👍🏻
I didn’t know about this. Interesting. Thanks for sharing
Does this machine have the Latta and Cappuccino option as well
Yes it does!
Are you supposed to weigh the beans each time? This is something I’m looking into before I purchase the machine.
You can! It’s definitely recommended to get a perfect pour each time
So helpful! Thank you❤
You really should be using 18 gram dose with 30-36 out. You can buy a funnel to prevent all that spillage. I use a distributer and a preset tamper and my coffee is perfect for me now.
Hi, what grind settings would you recommend?
Do you know how much this machine weighs? I want to fly international with it to my new home. Espresso machine and vitamix are my two heavy would love to take items. thanks...
You can google it on the Breville website
Nice video! As espresso machine owner, it is not a bad idea to invest in third party such as tamper, needle, and scale.
Also pre-heat your cup with hot water so it doesn't cool down your pulled shot.
A few ideas. I wonder if they helped
Where did you get this espresso cups?
Etsy!
@@LaurenColvin can you please sent the link?
Of course! Here you go: rstyle.me/+j2ToNvuhj4l0K5VxXltaxQ
I wouldn’t like all the fiddling around with the overflow that you demonstrated - that’s very fiddly and time consuming
I have no idea how you get that good of a pour with a grind setting at 11. If I choose anything greater than 6 it drips out instead of a steady flow.
Maybe you are tamping too hard? Mine is at 10 and comes out like warm honey
I recently purchased one (like a week ago) on sale at William Sonoma for a great price. I went right down the rabbit hole. Went through two bags today and still did not produce a tasty result. I think I over complicated it. Using the scale, overly-timing shots, etc. Shrug
What about water temperature? I read about lot of woes on this topic for this machine.
I covered that in the tutorial!
Why don't you use a collar on your portafilter?
Dosing cup would help you
They make wonderful rubber mats and baskets for when grinding so the mound isn't overflowing. Can't believe after a year you never found those lol!
How can I get that crema you got. I have my settings the same as yours but I don’t get any crema.
Lol there are a lot of steps!! I loved my nespresso machine when I had it !! Lol it was so easy to use
Love mine ❤
so i followed your setting exactly and when i ground the coffee it barely filled it half way? also my coffee did not come out golden like yours. It came out dark and watery and not a thick stream. What did I do wrong?
I would try uping the grind size! Make sure you have enough grinds in the portofilter as well
ok what size do you reccomend? i did the size that you recommended in the video, not sure how we have same machine and same setting with two outcomes, your crema is so nice, mine was nothing like it@@LaurenColvin
Why I am not getting the foam ?????
Add a 54mm Espresso Dosing Funnel and you'll have a better experience. All the coffee will be kept in the basket/cup.
Thanks for this! Just bought this yesterday… first shot ..eek..
It gets better! Just a lot of trial and error
My purifier is not getting full at 15 why is that ?
Maybe check your grind size!
@@LaurenColvin did you use dark beans or medium
I’m using medium currently!
Thankyou for this video I’m about to purchase this machine - and I’ve spent hours studying what it’s capable of,
I’d be tempted to purchase a 54mm funnel so there is no spillage and you can also use the tamp with it too, big Thankyou for the video, if it all goes wrong when it arrives, look out for my comment please 😂 x x.
Most enjoyable coffee
That is a beautiful espresso cup. ❤
Thank you!! It’s handmade from Etsy!
She is more beautiful
A dosing funnel would have made the grinding process much easier. Also, the puck cannot be pressed too hard according to a scientific expert barista. And a scale is a must. Still, I enjoyed your video and appreciate the tips for setup. Thanks.
Hmmmm my espresso does NOT look like that, need to try this.
the cheaper one without the screen auto fills and tamps the espresso. This one looks cooler but the mess is definitely a no from me lol
I think that’s an updated version they must have come out with recently… when I bought this machine the only ones that did that were $2,000
@@LaurenColvinsame here. But that’s ok.. tamping yourself is kinda part of the fun 😝
Purchased one of these back in December. Awful experience. Faulty grinder within a couple of days. Customer service from Sage has been shocking. Lodged a support ticket with Sage and its taken them 34 days to reply. Support has now gone quiet again. Support phone lines have ques of 60+ minutes and 2 months on I still have a faulty machine. Quality of the espresso machine is dreadful and so is Sage's customer support!
The need for cleaning and to find the beans you like are a con of this machine?
Great video and thank you. Not sure it is worth the $2000+ cost. I do like the simple Nespresso classic with some hot milk (skip the froth if needed)
It’s not $2,000, the machine I have is $1,000. I used to drink nespresso and loved it but nothing truly tastes better than fresh ground espresso with a great machine!
It’s $895 right now on sale, regular price is $1100. The $2000 one is the Oracle not the Touch.
Nespresso pods with hot milk un texturised ?
Don’t bother with a new machine if you’ve found that’s what you like 😊
Is this a comedy video?
Shit machine
Own two and both had same faith that requires a send back to factory....
What machine did you own? I have the black version of this and it’s amazing
@@NpgSymboL it was the barrista touch. Had one for home, one for business. Same fault as on here. It's a common fault apparently
@@NpgSymboL it is really good. But not good when it doesn't work haha
@@willliam1343what’s the fault?? Just curious. Mine took a while to set up and dial in but once I got through that it consistently makes coffee as good as or better than most coffee shops. I’ve had it for like 3 years
@johnnykidmann1523 we had both for two years before the fault occurred. I can't remember the number sorry of the fault sorry. It was about 6 months ago now
I had the Pro for 72 HOURS and I COMPLETELY LOST MY $HIT! I SWORE at it, in TWO languages, I tried to perform an EXORCISM on it AND I still couldn’t get it to work…so I returned it and bought a Creatista Plus…which is a GREAT machine for ME! I’m still having PTSP moments, but it’s getting better.
Sooooo…I think YOU are a HERO 🦸♀️
I had a Creatista and now I have this touch, the difference in coffee taste is truly night and day. Its worth the learning curve to get this amazing tasting coffee.
