Latest update after receiving my Breville Oracle Touch in September 2021, the connector piece does not need to be "unscrewed" to be removed, but rather pulled out directly. Use the provided magnet in the grind chute brush to remove the tamper fan, reach in to the connector piece and pull it straight out. Do the adjustment exactly as per video (that part does not change). Installation of the connector piece is as simple as push the assembly back onto the shaft in the grinding chamber. I have a Sage Oracle in the UK. The fan can be removed with the magnetic tool, but that’s only for removing the fan to clean. If you follow the videos guidance, it will unscrew as per the video so you can adjust the fan height. The fan is attached to the ‘bolt/screw’ adjuster magnetically, but the whole unit is screwed in. this helped a lot, thank you very much. I was struggling with dialing in the machine for a while now and adjusting the tamp fans distance made a world of difference. The other tips were walso sueful, though grinding at 15~20 gives me like 3g out after 30s, I wonder what kind of beans you have that allow for that low of a setting I usually haveto play in the 23~30 range
thanks for info on popcorning... hoping this is why I'll have a perfect double shot in the afternoon and next morning wife gets 15 ml (she never changes any settings)
Hello! This all depends on your beans and conditions. If your shot is pulling too fast, you'll want to grind finer, if its pulling too slowly, go coarser. Volume is always determined by the ratio you're looking to brew. 2:1 water to coffee is a good place to start with this machine.
I hope you have managed to remove the shower screen by now, I live in Scotland but had the Sage Oracle (Breville) in the U.S. When I had my machine the hex screw turned clockwise to unscrew it, I was caught out with this as in the U.K. most screws turn clockwise to tighten. Please don’t be angry with me for answering your question. Kind regards from Scotland. Johnny
OK Everyone - If you’ve struggle following these (and other video) instructions and have the NEW version of the oracle touch, don’t do what he says as it’s changed. Use the TAMP MAGNET to remove the fan and then just PULL DOWN on the little knob that is left behind. It will pop right out. I turned clockwise and counter clockwise for probably 10 minutes, used wrenches, all to no avail. The new design is different and easier!!
Hey, I just got mine brand new, if I use fresh dark roasted beans, I'm still having to set the grinder to a 7 or an 8 otherwise I find the shot flows way too fast and overextracts. Am I doing something wrong? I was thinking maybe set the dose higher, but I'm already getting 24g shots.
Hi, I just found your video and I would just like to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind. I want to get an espresso machine. I have narrowed it down to three machines. Can you tell me if there is a big difference other than the touch screen in this machine and the original Oracle without the touch screen. Is it just as easy to make drinks with? The other machine I was considering is the Breville Barista Touch. Any thoughts on that machine? Thank you so much
Any tips on Upper Bur settings? Sage Support advised me to change it. Now I'm always grinding above the 15-20 range (I'm in the 21 - 24 range and can't recall it's initial setting).
I have seen so many reviews on UA-cam incorrectly claiming, you cannot adjust the dosage on a Breville Oracle and Oracle touch. I figured this out when I purchased the machine in 2016. Why didn't Breville include this in the instructions?
The new models have a magnetic tamping blade. Can you just remove that and then does the screw just come off separately? I don't want to force it off and break my machine if it isn't supposed to come off now.
I turn it but it doesnt unscrew: i took the blade off but not the part where i need to use the hex key, any suggestions. Im unable to get that other piece out
Hi, please would you be able to tell me the height measurements from bottom to the flat area to the right of the grinder so I can see if that part fits under my cabinet? Grind it would fit on the outside area where my cabinets end. Thank you. Len.
Does it matter what size basket is used when adjusting the dose? On my machine if I use a smaller basket it seems to still dose 28 grams no matter what height I set the fan.
Adjusting the tamper to hit 18 grams of coffee into the portafilter will not affect the pressure of the tamper, correct? After adjusting my machine to 18 grams of ground beans at 15 grinder setting, the espresso came out faster, meaning a lot more in the cup with the same amount of time extracting and the taste suffered. So to adjust this I assume to grind at a lower number like 13/14. Is this correct?
Thank you. Your videos are extremely helpful. I am a bit frustrated with the Breville Oracle Touch that was delivered the day before yesterday. I am trying to find the correct grind setting for the beans that I am using. These are very fresh espresso beans (Redbird Blue Jaguar), medium roast, and were roasted only 4 days ago. I am using a gram scale to check both the dose used and the weight of the shot that is pulled. I am using all double shots using the default temperature, 30 second etc. etc. I am looking for a brew ratio of around 2. I am now wondering if the unit is defective and needs to be returned for a replacement? Or if I am doing something wrong. I have tried adjusting the grind setting 15 different times and have wasted a lot of good beans ... but that is to be expected. However, what was not expected is how variable the shots are even with the same settings!! The doses have been reasonably consistent in the 20 to 22 gm range. But the shots for the different grind settings have been ridiculously variable. Examples... Grind Setting 30 has yielded shot of 79 gm Grind Setting 28 has yielded shots of 52-gm, 43-gm, 29-gm in 3 different attempts Grind Setting 27 has yielded shots of 28gm-, 24gm-, and 51 gm Grind Setting 26 has yielded shots of 54gm, Grind Setting 25 has yielded shots of 22gm Grind setting 24 has yielded shots of 13 gm When I spoke with Breville “support” the agent told me this was normal and that the machine is designed to yield 2 ounces of volume for a double shot. Not helpful ...clearly not a coffee geek 1. Do you have any suggestions? 2. Should I send the machine back for a replacement? 3. Is there a Forum of Oracle users that you could refer me to so I can post this to perhaps get some insights, suggestions, and comparisons? Thank you. Larry Reinstein
Since no one has replied to you I figured I will. In using my Oracle Touch I found that it can take a few grinds for it to “settle” and that making large changes can make it take a few grinds at a particular setting before it starts consistently yielding the same dose. Either because grounds from the previous setting are still stuck in the grinder or that it just takes a good amount of grinding when it is changed. For instance if I have been getting doses consistently too high (ie 50+g out from 20g in at a grind setting of 33) I will only lower the grind setting by 1 or 2 MAX and not continue lower until I see that the dose is still consistently too high.
I have the regular oracle and I’ve been wanting to bring the dosage down since I got it, thank you for finally showing how! Although it didn’t quite have the effect I had hoped, manage to get it down to just above 20 but then I’m almost at the end of the threads. Do you think it’s possible to change the piece out to a longer one to get it down further, or would that risk damaging my machine somehow?
Wait a minute, does the Oracle have a warm up time? In this video he says 10 mins. I have a Breville Barista Pro and it doesn't have a warm-up time. Oh it's more like a traditional system, where everything heats up (boilders, etc.) unlike the Pro which is fundamentally different? Pros/cons, I guess. Though I do like the speed of the Pro...
OK, so after realizing you just pull on the fan not screwing etc... I got the 4-5 ridges showing on the little screw piece, but when grinding at 20 (as advised), the machine leaves a terrible tamp... Why is that? I then adjusted the height again back to the original setting and I got a better tamp (still not clean, not flat at all), so how do I get the 18g -20g of coffee and a clean tamp if when I adjust the height I lose the tamp?... HEEEEELLLLP please!
I did exactly as he described and my results were the same as yours. Tamp was all messed up. Best setting while the screw can still lock back in is about 4 threads as he mentioned but it still provides a 20g dose. I cannot get it lower than that no matter what.
Thank you so much for the info.I have the Breville oracle (not the touch) & I have actually diminish the tamper fan with 4 threads and got 20grs of coffee which sound good result for me.However after few days without changing the coffee beans I started to get soupy puck after brewing the shot. do you have any explanation and how can I fix it. Thanks
FYI. Don't need to unscrew it. One of the accessories on with the machine is a magnet. You can use the magnet to pull out the tamper then put your hand in and pull the thread bit out. At least for Australian models anyways
I have this unit... it is giving me 28 grams of grinds so I tried to remove the tamping fan per this video and it doesn't work. It just spins and spins and spins and spins in both directions. I cannot get it out. I am getting horrible extraction because of much coffee is in the Portifilter... I went the reddit and my thread was removed for some reason. I am desperate for a fix because this is currently a $2,500 paper weight with the terrible extraction I am getting
it sounds like maybe the locking hex nut(the one he dropped in the video) is loose allowing the fan to spin freely. try to pull the fan down using a hook or strong magnet. hope this helps
@@firstnamelastname2014 I've made every adjustment imaginable. I finally got it to the least amount of grounds it will allow but that is still 22 to 23 grams every time. The only way to get a decent extraction with this much coffee is to increase the coarseness and then extract for about 30 seconds which gives me 3 ounces. But at least this 3 ounces tastes correct. I am a little upset that this machine puts so much coffee in the portafilter.
@@TyBardy it could also be the type of coffee you are using. have you tried a different brand/roast? fresh roasted? this machine also has a secret menu which can adjust tamping pressure as well. if all else fails, shoot an email to Breville and see what they suggest.
forgot to add this tip. adjust the fan to the lowest possible, remove all previous beans, then MEASURE the EXACT amount of coffee you want. im doing 20g. the machine cant grind more coffee than you put in. see if that helps.
Others have already noted, but the OP should edit his video: use the magnet provided on the cleaner brush to release the fan blade, then simply pull down on the threaded connector. When replacing, be sure to push the threaded connector in until you feel the click. I didn't one time, and so the tamper fan didn't tell the grinder to stop. What a mess! And a waste of beans! Also, the numbers on the grinder are relative. We have two Oracle Touch machines (different locations.) One is set at 24, the other at 14. You can't go with someone else's numbers. Dial your own result. And, yes, my amp goes up to 11!
Wet the portafilter basket before putting it in for grinding. Use damp cloth perhaps. It's to prevent the whole coffee puck from spinning in the basket with the tamping blade.
I’m surprised Breville didn’t design this machine with a dosing dial / or a setting to change... very strange lol - imagine changing that screw all the time! Hahaha
@@MarcesAurelius It does, what I am saying is the non touch version allows you to change the dose via its menu, not by disassembling part of the machine :)
@@29mailman please let me know how this is done? I had an Oracle for 5 years and just got a new one 4 months ago... I have not located an added option to control this dose my understanding is the grinder shuts off with the pressure of a full basket is sensed, so FORCE settings only slightly changes does amount, only about a gram
The new models do not screw out; rather they have a friction fit with some ball bearings. Once you use your magnetic tool to remove the tamping fan, you should be able to pull straight down to remove the collar.
The instructions to remove the ramp fan, at least for my Oracle Touch, are wrong. Remove the fan with the magnet and then just pull straight down on the connector to remove it. Spinning it around does nothing.
Just bought this machine. Interestingly our method for removing the adjusting piece differs. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong based on your description until I came across this video. ua-cam.com/video/7KK5PMYe-g0/v-deo.html It appears Breville tweaked it at some point. On my machine you have to remove the fan and then pull the adjuster straight down. Also the factory setting yields 21g. Thanks for putting us on the right track with all your tips.
For such an expensive machine Im surprised you have to go through such trouble adjusting the dosage. On the entry level barista express it's just a dial away.
No it isn't; you can choose single or double dose and you get what you get. You are probably talking about the ability to change the grind fineness which is also a dial on the side of this machine.
Always more than one way of looking at things.... I see buying a €2000 machine and just having to fiddle with a screw to adjust it the way you want based on the bean you are using.
Such a shame that none of these super simple and small trick who make a huge difference, aren't even said in the big useless manual of Breville. Just like upgrading the "shower ring" from cheap plastic which is unacceptable at the machine price, for a stainless steel dispersion shower that's only like 45$ with a 5$ silicon gasket from Cafelat, that alone is gonna make a big difference just like getting a bottomless porterfilter with a (IMS BaristaPro Basket) instead of the crappy one they give. My mom used to have the older non-touch version, worst machine ever but when you know nothing... these tips could have made the machine back then not as bad but now I just got her a (Lelit Bianca V3) which is like 10x better easily, with a (Eureka Oro) grinder that's 200x better than the built-in trash from Breville. I'll foward that video to my cosin who still have that machine, as it's very good tips he prolly didn't know neither. Thanks!
If the machine is set to dose and tamp 24g and you put 18g of beans in it, it'll grind through all the beans but not get to the amount it expects and will just continue to run the grinder without tamping until it goes to an error.
Agreed! The best tip and trick for this espresso machine is to abandon use of its built-in grinder and instead, buy and use a separate, quality, stand-alone grinder. That, and always weight your shots because they will vary. There's no such thing as a set and forget grind setting and unless you weigh your shots, you have no idea whether the grind is correctly set.
On the later production runs, you do not unscrew the tamper but just pull down and it slides off. The adjustment screw also just pulls off downwards. The view on the manufacturers website is quite helpful.
Can you mention which view? I’m having hard time understanding how I will pull down the tamper each time by a consistent amount.

Thanks for the tips. So which is better?? Finer and lower dose or coarser with higher dose??? Thank you
Hello!
This all depends on your beans and conditions. If your shot is pulling too fast, you'll want to grind finer, if its pulling too slowly, go coarser. Volume is always determined by the ratio you're looking to brew. 2:1 water to coffee is a good place to start with this machine.
I"m unable to remove the shower screen, the hex screw kind of jammed. Appreciate if you could help. Many thanks.
Johnny
Thanks Very much , BEST info i have ever seen on this product.
And to reinstall you have to push back in until you feel a little pop as there is a small ball/spring that holds pressure
Omg thank you I knew I wasn’t the only one who can’t get the knob out!
Thanks I was trying to unscrew too but you just pull down! I got the oracle touch off Facebook marketplace and only paid 1700
Fantastic video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
I just got mine and have a similar issue. I lower it down to 15 as he mentioned, it is improved but I still get triple the amount in grams in 25s.
@@mipa940 I never resolved this, just kept grinding at a really low setting
Hi, I just found your video and I would just like to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind. I want to get an espresso machine. I have narrowed it down to three machines. Can you tell me if there is a big difference other than the touch screen in this machine and the original Oracle without the touch screen. Is it just as easy to make drinks with? The other machine I was considering is the Breville Barista Touch. Any thoughts on that machine? Thank you so much
Any tips on how to get the best frothy milk ?
Any tips on Upper Bur settings? Sage Support advised me to change it. Now I'm always grinding above the 15-20 range (I'm in the 21 - 24 range and can't recall it's initial setting).
Awesome tips and tricks, thanks!
Thank you very much for sharing this info, greatly appreciated!!!! 🤗
for some it can be easier to screw in the tamper-fan-connector first, then snap in the fan which connects magnetically
I have seen so many reviews on UA-cam incorrectly claiming, you cannot adjust the dosage on a Breville Oracle and Oracle touch. I figured this out when I purchased the machine in 2016. Why didn't Breville include this in the instructions?
I noticed that this only lets you adjust 1-4 grams if you need more than that you need to replace the basket
awesome tips, can't wait to setup my Oracle touch from Seattle Coffee Gear👍👍
Really helpful, thank you so much.
You're very welcome!
Thank you. Len.
From bottom to top of the bean hopper it’s 45.4cm or 17.87in.
Hi there, that's correct! You'll want a finer grind.
I am really confused whether I should get this machine or Lelit Mara x & good grinder.. it seems so many problems with this high end machine
Thank you so much for the info on popcorning! Breville needs better instructions - Thanks for filling in the missing info
Examples...
Grind Setting 30 has yielded shot of 79 gm
Grind Setting 28 has yielded shots of 52-gm, 43-gm, 29-gm in 3 different attempts
Grind Setting 27 has yielded shots of 28gm-, 24gm-, and 51 gm
Grind Setting 26 has yielded shots of 54gm,
Grind Setting 25 has yielded shots of 22gm
Grind setting 24 has yielded shots of 13 gm
When I spoke with Breville “support” the agent told me this was normal and that the machine is designed to yield 2 ounces of volume for a double shot. Not helpful ...clearly not a coffee geek
What setting do you have the upper burr at?
I have the regular oracle and I’ve been wanting to bring the dosage down since I got it, thank you for finally showing how!
Although it didn’t quite have the effect I had hoped, manage to get it down to just above 20 but then I’m almost at the end of the threads. Do you think it’s possible to change the piece out to a longer one to get it down further, or would that risk damaging my machine somehow?
Write Breville if they can send you something
thank you great stuff
Great advice & tips , thanks. 👍🇬🇧
If the machine determines dose by checking when the basket is full, wouldn't using a smaller basket result in lower doses?
That’s what I did and it seemed to work
Turning the fan doesn't remove it on the new version, on the newer one the fan just pulls off. Adjusting the dose works the same though 👍
Great information and I really love this machine and am getting my mind ready for this purchase
Hey Troy, if you’re interested in a slightly used unit (less than 2 months old) and are around the Chicago area, let me know!

Hey Mr. Beaver thanks for the offer but I'm in Va.😒
Auch great tips and Tricks! Thanks a lot
Thank you for the awesome review
Doesnt having the beans in the hopper like that cause the beans to stale quicker?
@@teewunz My tamp is all messed up still as well. Any solutions to this as I'm wasting a lot of coffee/money and having to manually tamp.
Thanks
I am facing the same issue!
Adjust your grind setting
thanks mate, great over view.
Thank you.
Very informative
thanks for posting. BTW, you meant clockwise and counterclockwise, not the other way around, but obvious anyways.
Unless the fan has (everybody’s fear) “reverse” threads, right?
Nice video fun and informative thank you
Amazing video. Thank you.
5:10. It is actually counterclockwise.
This was GREAT!!
great video
Great information -- you know that machine.
Awesome video!!
nothing beats the dual boiler!
Amazon Basic Stainless Steel Electric Coffee Grinder- A Terrific Product
Brilliant, thank-you!
@@firstnamelastname2014 yea I've used multiple roasts from a few local roasters to starbucks espresso roast to store bought beans.
I find it easier to screw in the connector then install fan
awsome
Mine is at the max before it falls off, I'm still getting 21g doses
Hi. After reducing the dose, my Oracle began to tamp badly. The tablet is no longer flat and shows fan marks on it. Help me fix this please. Thanks
Wet the portafilter basket before putting it in for grinding. Use damp cloth perhaps. It's to prevent the whole coffee puck from spinning in the basket with the tamping blade.
Not true.. I tried to unwrap that piece.. And it doesn't go undone
I’m surprised Breville didn’t design this machine with a dosing dial / or a setting to change... very strange lol - imagine changing that screw all the time! Hahaha
James Robert that would be nice... additionally use a 15g Baristapro basket making a 1:2 to 1:2.5
Yes and the non-touch oracle lets you change the dose
@@29mailman the Oracle Touch doesn’t have an adjustable fan connector to adjust the dose?
@@MarcesAurelius It does, what I am saying is the non touch version allows you to change the dose via its menu, not by disassembling part of the machine :)
@@29mailman please let me know how this is done?
I had an Oracle for 5 years and just got a new one 4 months ago... I have not located an added option to control this dose
my understanding is the grinder shuts off with the pressure of a full basket is sensed, so FORCE settings only slightly changes does amount, only about a gram
My Oracle Touch's tamping fan does not screw out when I try...
The new models do not screw out; rather they have a friction fit with some ball bearings. Once you use your magnetic tool to remove the tamping fan, you should be able to pull straight down to remove the collar.
Use the magnet that's included in your accessories. It makes removing it much easier.
I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong based on your description until I came across this video. ua-cam.com/video/7KK5PMYe-g0/v-deo.html
It appears Breville tweaked it at some point. On my machine you have to remove the fan and then pull the adjuster straight down. Also the factory setting yields 21g.
Thanks for putting us on the right track with all your tips.
This 100%. Just got mine and was spinning it like a dummy for 20 minutes.
Ah yes, dropping the grub screw, classic move I make every time I pull out a screw. . . literally every time. :'-(
Makes sense. Buying a €2000 machine and then having to fiddle with a screw to get the right amount of coffee.
Always more than one way of looking at things....
I see buying a €2000 machine and just having to fiddle with a screw to adjust it the way you want based on the bean you are using.
Even if you buy a Porsche you still have to adjust the seat and the steering wheel
I would rather buy a Bezzera Duo MN for the same price.
Thanks!
Which size of IMS BaristaPro Basket do you prefer to bottomless portafilter in your case?
Can you just not weigh the beans to the correct amount surely thats quicker and easier
If the machine is set to dose and tamp 24g and you put 18g of beans in it, it'll grind through all the beans but not get to the amount it expects and will just continue to run the grinder without tamping until it goes to an error.
Everything is good about this machine except the grinder
15-20 is like running water out of this machine and these beans are fresher, about 1 month roast date
