    I remember some UA-camrs who would claim that dosage could not be changed on the Oracle (non touch) years ago. Upon inspection, I found this adapter and adjusted till I weighed out 21 grams at tamp setting 3. Still have that machine and only changed one solenoid and pump once over the years.

    Great video. Well done, I have an earlier machine works well except for one problem, after filling the handle place into machine press go there is quite a delay before it starts to pump, I overcome this by purging first if you don’t the cycle will finish before water/coffee comes out, any ideas. Graham.

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Graham, thanks for the positive feedback. I assume you have cleaned the group head as shown in my other video ? How old is your machine and when did this start to happen ? It's normal for the flow to start 7-12 sec after pushing the button, depending on how tightly packed the coffee is in the basket. This period is what they call pre-infusion. You probably know all this so apologies for covering the basics. Now, if your flow is not starting by 12 sec it probably means one of two things. 1. The coffee is ground too fine (try making it coarser) or 2. Your brew pump is on the way out (this is possible on an old machine). If the pump is failing you will need to call Breville Service. I've not had that problem so cannot advise how to fix it. Good luck! Mark.

      On my oracle , the thing with the grub screw . I removed the tamping wheel first . My shaft was not screwed in . It was pressure secured. I think a spring loaded ball bearing holds it on . So you just pull it down . Every thing else from the Allan key on ,is like your machine . Now my porta filter finishes at 90degrees to the machine and I can see the mesh in print in the coffee grind aswell.

    Just got the Oracle Touch and learning my ways. Thank you for your informative videos, a big help. Would you be able to comment on one issue I have right now: Grinder is set very low to 9, medium roast beans from Proud Mary in Vic. I have adjusted tamper and now get 20g of coffee in the basket. But a single espresso shot with uninterrupted extraction going for 25 sec gives me 90ml of liquid with puck already getting on the soggy side. I was expecting 30-40ml with a single shot. Coffee is well balanced, just too thin for my taste.

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Peter, that sounds way too much volume from 20g basket! It should weigh in at 40g. You will need to grind much finer. If you can't get it to grind fine enough you can adjust the upper burr to go finer. Good luck ! Mark.

    what size tamper (the manual one you use to get a smooth finish post the machine tamper) do you need to optimally fit this machine? I was about to buy one, but they are sized anywhere from 49-58mm, so not sure which is the right size. I could measure it I suppose...

  • @petegalindez9961

    Mark. Great video. Two things though…I think the newer version of the Oracle Touch doesn’t need to be unscrewed to get the shaft out. It seems to be just a pop on fit, and pulling it gets it off…also, I tried adjusting the dosage by unscrewing it, but it seems to just dose out the same amount and the tamper is just digging into the grinds now and making a mess…does it take a few times to get it to sense that it’s dosage too much or is there something else going on?

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife  2 роки тому

      Hi Pete, thanks for the positive feedback! And thank you for updating us on the design change on new models. That explains why some people have recently reported not being able to unscrew the tamper shaft. The adjustment should be effective immediately. You may have a problem with the sensor. Although it's also possible that Breville have removed the sensor altogether and are controlling the dose some other way. You may need to contact Breville and ask them if the adjustment still works on new machines. FYI, my first machine had a faulty sensor out of the box and had to be replaced. Good luck! Please post anything you discover. Thanks, Mark.

    Just received our machine yesterday and I must say it’s taking quite a bit of tweaking to get it right. Your video has been the most well explained and helpful yet. I haven’t attempted the tamper dose but I’m thinking that’s my problem as the puck is very wet and most times it’s stuck and doesn’t come out in the porterfiler. Am I right by saying that will fix it?

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife  Рік тому

      Hi Luisa, it's hard to say without seeing it. Are you using the double basket or single ? Are you getting the correct volume of liquid at the end of the shot time ? For example, if you are using the double shot basket it should contain approximately 22g of ground coffee. You can check this by weighing the portafilter before and after ginding and subtract one from the other. Let's say there is 22g and your shot time is set to 30s (default setting) then by the time the extraction stops you should have 44g (2 times dry weight of coffee) of liquid in your cup. Again, weight the cup before and after to calculate the weight of liquid. If the liquid weight is too low then adjust your grinder to make the grind coarser (turn knob anti-clockwise). If it is too heavy then tighten the grind by turning the adjustment knob clockwise. If you get this perfect then your puck should not be wet and it should release with a few sharp knocks on the knock box.

    • @luisaconte8889
      @luisaconte8889 Рік тому

      After writing to you we realised we have the new machine so it doesn’t enable you to tweak the machine in this way but we’ve now noticed the grind was too fine and after adjusting it it’s made all the difference to the flow and the puck is dispensing too. Thankyou for your guidance we’ve learnt a lot after watching all your videos.

    Hi there, thank you for your helpful u-tube video re adjusting the amount of ground coffee - I tried to do exactly as you directed after my oracle (recently given to me from a friend - but only around 2 years old) and the grinder began making a very loud grinding sound that sounded like the machine was about to explode. It then expelled a huge mound of ground coffee After your video, i tried to remove the tamper fan - but found there was not one attached?! Do any models not have that steel tamper wheel fan? I then tried to unscrew the small shaft - which was exposed - but could not get it to shift in either direction. So, have been unable to adjust anything. So, now, when turn on the machine it does the following: 1. make a loud grinding sound (sounds like the machine has a problem) and grinds endlessly - until I tap the grind button again to force it stop. The ground coffee is un-tampered. The other problem I have is that the puck is always super sloppy after a coffee pour. It seems to be that way no matter what grind size I make it. Can you help??!

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife  Рік тому

      Hi Stephanie, yes you must have the tamper wheel for this to work properly. I would suggest you order a replacement from Breville. In the meantime you may be able to manually stop the grinding and then temp the coffee with a normal 58mm tamper, like the one you see in my video.

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Raymond, you need a good quality hex (allen) key. there is only one screw holding the whole assembly together and it is quite a small key size (I think about 5mm). Mine was very tight and I was worried the key would strip out the head of the screw so I used an industrial grade Kingchrome key with a long shaft. Once you get the screens out it is straght forward to replace them. I also replaced the main group head gasket while I was in there as it is cheap to buy and a new one improves the seal around your basket. Good luck there!

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife  2 роки тому +1

      @@togetherrising6563 Hi TR, so one inch doesn't sound too bad. That's about how much I get. Of course it depends on the glass/cup you are using. Please try the following. With kitchen scales weigh the empty portafilter and basket. Then grind your coffee and re-weigh the portafilter - subtract the empty weight to get the weight of your coffee dose. Now weigh your empty cup. Pull the shot and re-weigh the cup plus shot. Subtract the cup weight to get the weight of the shot. A good result is when the shot is twice the weight of the dry coffee dose. Leave the shot time at 30s but adjust the grinder until you achieve the ideal 2:1 result. This will give you a nice cup of coffee.

There is a product here in Australia that you get at the big box store that comes in an aerosol can. You will need to put a mirror underneath the tamping mechanism so you can see what you’re doing. Then spray the shaft till it freezes. Then tap it with something like a knife handle. Then grab with gloved hand and try to loosen it. If that fails you will need to contact Breville Service. You could try pulling the machine apart but I wouldn’t. To be honest if you’re getting 22g in the big basket that should be enough for a decent shot. Mine is 24g so you are a bit under-dosed but as long as the grind is fine enough and you are getting 44g of liquid from a 30s pour then it should taste ok in the cup. Good luck! Mark.

      @@MarksElectricLife thanks this worked! I pulled it and it came off instead of twisting it and as you say it looked like the design of that part must have changed.

    If you have a newer machine, the assembly no longer un-screws. See the official video at ua-cam.com/video/D7ooJEGeJRY/v-deo.html

    Fantastic but I can’t get it out. Definitely not just finger tight!!

      Hi George, I believe the newer machines have a plug-in typ of adjuster rather than the screw in one like mine. In that case you should be able to just pull it off.

    Wouldn’t recommend putting your fingers in the grinder with the machine powered on

      Good advice Luke! Just to be clear my fingers are in the tamping fan, not the grinder. This is a slow moving helical disc, which is more than a the length of a human hand away from the actual grinder. Like every moving part on this machine it has a safety cutout integrated into the design so there is not much risk of injury. That said it is always wise to turn a machine of before sticking fingers inside.

    You should weight how much coffee you want. 18 to 22 grams is a good shot

  • @emirates118
    @emirates118 3 роки тому +1

    WARNING GUYS. IF USING SINGLE BASKET I WOULD NOT DO THE ABOVE. ONLY DO 22GRAMS, IF YOU DO 20 GRAMS, AND THEN TRY TO USE SINGLE BASKET, HIGH CHANCE YOU WILL DAMAGE THE MACHINE AND THE TAMPING FAN WILL GO TO LOW AND SCRAPE THE SINGLE BASKET.
    MY MACHINE WAS RUINED BY DOING THIS. IF USING DOUBLE BASKET ONLY EVER THEN YOU CAN IGNORE ABOVE

      Thanks for the warning, had our Oracle since January. Found the double basket was making the coffee too strong for us so switched to the single. Had thought about fiddling with the dosing to reduce the double basket amount but I'll leave it alone and keep using the single basket.

      I've been using it with a single basket adjusted with three visible thread lines on the screw. Works fine.

      To adujust the height of the coffee in the basket you didn't say if you need to wind the grub screw up or down to put more coffee in the basket I have one the same & think it is brilliant many thanks for the tips Rod
