LP is a band that Chester was a part of and not the other way around. They can do whatever they want regarding the direction of music releases and tours in the future with any singer that they choose to front them. Chester's son has no say on this. He has nothing to do with the music of LP. I understand where he is coming from and Mike Shinoda should have looked into Emily before handing her the big job.
Continuing Linkin Park means honoring Chester's legacy. Mike was doing his own solo stuff, could've easily released the new album under a new name and never play Linkin Park songs ever again, but how would that be keeping Chester's legacy alive? The songs Chester helped create with the band deserve to be heard, even if someone else sings his parts. I don't look at Emily as someone replacing Chester since Mike made it clear during the livestream when he said, “in the role of Chester Bennington is each of you,” meaning no single person could ever fill his shoes. Chester’s presence and impact are irreplaceable, and keeping the band going ensures his legacy remains a part of that journey.

I have a problem with the term "replacing Chester". Chester died 7 years ago and Linkin Park has been without a Lead Singer ever since. I could hardly call it "replacing", but instead "filling the gap". In my book, "replacing Chester" would mean they kicked him out of the Band and hired another singer to replace him, which wasn't the case.

Linkin Park didn't die when Chester bailed on life! They waited 7 years to move on. Other bands have replaced lead singers and continued on successfully. AC/DC , BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, VAN HALEN, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS...(Oddly with Chester Bennington)! So, replacing members is not uncommon. They have been more than respectful. Jaime Bennington can voice his opinion... but he is not in the band. Linkin Park 2.0 has arrived. Like them or hate them... feel however you feel! But, please stop telling the rest of us how we should boycott Linkin Park because you dont like the fact that they have finally moved on!

While I do feel that over time, Emily will do fine with the band, I do have something to add: 1. I don't feel they should call themselves Linkin Park anymore, as they are no longer the Linkin Park that Chester built a legacy with. 2. How dare you say that Chester "bailed on life"!!! As someone who has Clinical Depression myself, it is often very difficult to manage stress/negative situations, and yes, I've been pushed to the point of feeling like there was no other way out. Having to deal with those emotions, and being a very well known celebrity on top of that must have made it nearly impossible to manage, and the fact that Chester still pushed through it much longer than most would have been able to makes him a lot stronger and braver than even most people who the have stressful lives without depression.

I love Linkin Park, and I'm glad they're back, but I feel like there's so much shit going around (unintentional or not) that I feel like this won't end well.
I don't know how they will survive this wave of hate and accusations (whether they are true or not, it doesn't matter), I have never seen such a big wave of hate. There has been everything, and I sincerely expected that something like this could happen with more purist people of linkin park, but it was definitely much bigger than I expected, I don't know what to think, maybe with the passing of time things will calm down and it won't be as dramatic as I see it now, but the situation looks very bad and dark.
To be fair, their new single is topping the charts and all their upcoming live shows are sold out already. Also worth noting that the like/dislike ratio on all their recent videos is overwhelmingly positive. Once again, I think this is a case of "online negative press" not reaching the real world whatsoever.

The Instagram algorithm for instance seems to only promote negative comments under LP posts. The majority are positive, but the ones that appear at the top are often times the negative ones.

Jaime Bennington is not in the right mind set. He believes Chester’s death is a conspiracy and that he didn’t really hung himself. That’s what happens when people make misleading UA-cam videos saying he got killed. Talinda Bennington who is very close to Mike Shinoda is in full support of the direction of the band.
Some people just can't accept the fact their father is mentally ill enough that they'd rather die than live, often suicide is more an impulse than a plan. There's a chance that in the depths of Jaime's mind he thought his father would rather die than be around, and he couldn't accept that and decided to try and blame someone else so he he could cope with the tradgedy. Suicide is a "selfish" solution in the sense that those who are in that mindset generally aren't thinking about anyone but themselves. It's always the "me" problem, "i'm" the problem, and their solution is to make "everyone else's lives easier by removing myself" but they are so deep in their own mental illness that they don't realize just how many people love them and how much their death would hurt those who care deeply for them. Why would Mike conspire to kill Chester? It's that kind of mentally ill thinking that Chester may have been going down the road of, and mental illness is a sickness that distorts the thinking. I hope Jaime gets help.

His son isn't the only family member (as well as friends) who believes he didn't take his own life. His son clearly needs help processing and understanding his mental illness but Chester had mental illness too. I don't see anyone attacking him for it.

He pretty much was the face of the band. And the voice. A very strong voice. All his pain and mental issues were in every lyric and I feel like Linkin Park should have ended with his death. He was hired by Linkin Park in 1999 as a lead vocalist. The band name doesn't have to change. When Tracii Guns left Guns N' Roses, the name didn't change. The band also didn't end with his departure. They hired Slash, who became the signature sound provider for the band. You talked about Chester's vocals and how he added real emotions in the lyrics, then you must've skipped 'One More Light'. The entire song is about moving on, no matter whose dead. Chester would have never wanted his band members to suffer because of his decision to give up. If someone truly respects Chester and his work, they would accept Emily with open arms.

He said that, through the eyes of a scientologist, she did not actually apologize for or denounce anything. I never could understand where ppl think they haven't made a bad choice in their life. There is a saying from a song I like "even great people are good at making bad decisions" It's too early to know if I'm going to like the "new" linkin park. I feel really bad for the Bennington family and the victims of the "Masters" situation. But other ppl don't know the exact details and no one has the right to judge. Yep and I hear that Mike wrote The Emptiness Machine before Emily ever sang it/was going to join the band, but they've been friends for the past 5 years or so, and I wouldn't be surprised if she confided in him. When I think about the lyrics as they could pertain to someone's ties to Scientology, it makes a lot of sense to be a "fuck this shit I'm out" sort of thing full of anger and regret. Most people were born into that and just like any religion (they are all cults tbh) it is incredibly difficult to reject it especially if you are raised in it without having friends or family shun you for it/worse. I have been a fan of Linkin Park since I was 15/16 back in 04/05. I have always wanted to see them, but I grew up in a place where nobody tours (you can probably work that out from my name) and travelling interstate as a kid just wasn't gonna happen. I was getting ready for their Aussie tour announcement when Chester died. I was rather saddened about it and knew that I would never get to see them. Mike, and the rest of the band deciding to get the band back together has been the highlight of this year, because I know that there might be a slight glimmer of hope that I will get to see LP perform live. Yes, I know it's only 3 out of the 6 original members now, and it sucks I won't get to see the OG, but I am still really excited to see where they go from here. I am excited to hear the album. I am just excited knowing that my all time fav band is back, making music and doing shows. I will be one of the first to get tickets to an Aussie show! When it comes to the personal lives of each individual band member, I couldn't give a rats arse. I admire them for the music they make, not for them going to the shop to buy some bread and milk or having lunch with their family at some random cafe.. Side note: I am off to see hybrid Theory in a couple of months when they hit Melbourne. I cannot wait!

I felt divided at first too. This was before all the stuff about Emily surfaced cause I didn't even know her as a singer. I feel like shes doing a great job honoring Chester's legacy. She's not him, will never be him and she knows she has major shoes to fill. At the same time, it makes it a little hard listening to someone other than Chester. But we need to remember, he never really left us. As long as we continue singing his songs, he's alive in each of us as Mike said. Keeping his memory alive doesn't just fall on the band, it falls on all of us. Chester's goal with Linkin Park wasn't just to spread awareness of these awful things happening, but to let us know we are never alone in dealing with them. Now, as fans, we have a choice: do we live in the past and only listen to their old stuff? I for one would not blame you. Or do we accept what has happened and support the bands decision. Cause in the end (no pun intended) they didnt make the decision just for them, they made it for us too.
the new vocalist is interesting. i like that it is female vocals because that stops the direct comparisons with chester. the song was mediocre though. it didnt felt good. they need to start making good songs asap because thats what will save them. Always content is king, if the music is good any controversy fizzles out.
A LOT of people thought Danny Masterson was a good guy. He had people fooled like most every predator known to man. You can't fault someone for being mistaken. There were plenty who were fooled. She addressed it like many others. Props to her. She has a great voice and I like her.

There are a lot of comments regarding Jaime’s mental health or illness as it’s put. To me it sounds like some people are ganging up on him. Don’t forget Chester had issues & Talinda fought tooth & nail to make people be more open & accepting of what others are going through. I’ve read articles saying people have been telling Jaime to “go kill himself”. This is not only disgusting but heart breaking. I personally am finding it hard to accept anyone but Chester as the lead singer of Linkin Park but I also understand it is the rest of the bands livelihood. Go easy on Jaime. These aftermath continuations with other bands like STP and AnC, it’s not the same and it’s even worse when the new singer tried to replicate the old singer. Chester Benninton is one of a kind. Irreplaceable. Technically superior to other vocalist and artist. He was special. Creative. Very unique and Extremely Talented. Screamed like a fkn demon and had the voice of an angel. Completly Original. I honestly dont think they should continue without him.
This is about as dumb as people’s reactions to the Pantera reunion but on an even more ridiculous level. People have to start drama rather than enjoy the music and the fact that they aren’t exactly doing anything against Chester’s memory.. people can’t just look at it as a celebration of him and the music. Mike, Brad and Rob are the founding members of Linkin Park. They hired Chester who replaced Mark Wakefield in 2000. The Pantera reunion would've been the same if Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul did it, not Phil and Rex.
I was wondering why can’t they create a new band with a new singer with a different name with brand new songs? They could occasionally perform one or two songs of LP during concerts to pay tribute to Chester. Chris Cornell did that with the RATM members when creating Audioslave.

I have been a fan of LP since the beginning. LP holds a special place in my heart because their music has got me through some of my hardest times. And my opinion on this is they should have just made a new name for the band. Im not denying that emily's vocals are really solid, and i dont really care about the controversy surrounding her. It just feels like an empty shell of LP, and they are tring to capitalize on the LP name. I see them as a Mike Shinoda band version 2.0.
If you notice, she also doesn’t mention him by name. That apology was written for her by her Scientology PR reps. That’s a technique they regularly use to be able to back pedal.
She wasn't that clear in that statement -she didn't mention Masterson by name as the person she was talking about and the statement was so empty it could have been about anyone or anything.
Regarding Emily's past, the one thing I'll say is that I trust Mike Shinoda. I trust Joe, Brad, Dave. I trust Talinda, Chester's widow. And they all approved of Emily. Emily apologized for her mistake regarding Danny, and as for the Scientology tie-in, as you said, people change. But sadly, Scientology is not something you quit in a bombastic way if you don't want trouble. Juding by the fact that Emily is openly gay, supports LGBTQ+ rights and has now joined a band that constantly talks about mental illness, she is now VERY CLEARLY not sharing the views of Scientology. And take it as you want, but the lyrics of The Emptiness Machine are blatantly about quitting a cult or organized religion. There's no other meaning that makes as much sense. So to me, all of this is as close to a statement we'll ever get. And that's fine.

There's one thing we have to understand as an audience - and you don't have to like what I'm gonna say either or agree with me - but it is a fact that a lot of artists out there make great stuff and their personal, political or religious views might not always coincide with our own views. That still doesn't take away the fact that they are great artists and produce great stuff. Sometimes as an audience we have to separate the 2. I would have had issues with her still supporting Danny Masterson, but she did come out and say sorry - whether it was crafted or not - she did it and I appreciate that. She's clearly said she is no longer in contact with him. I'm not a fan of scientologists either, but I am mature enough to separate that from the fact that she's a good singer and she emotes Chester's voice inflections in many ways. Listening to her sing got me teary-eyed and gave me goosebumps. I'm gonna continue to support Linkin Park and I wish them the best.

AC/DC also got a beautiful performer brian johnson, he's a wonderful talent & KILLS all the ac/dc songs. Emily can barely get through Linkin park songs without having her voice crack, and she has zero range. They picked a very mediocre singer, sorry not sorry.
Yeah that comparison just doesn't work. Brian Johnson had his own unique style which thankfully fell in perfectly with ACDCs existing music, but the band then also released new and arguably their best material with Back in Black. So they could do some old songs for the die hard fans while still moving the band on from Bon Scott. Linkin Park have like 3 good songs from back in the day that were ruined for me by their new singer, and then their new stuff sucks imo. They are not going to be releasing a back in black level album any time soon.

I'm not getting where people think she's talented. Her voice is unoriginal and definitely....less than special. They can do whatever they want regarding the direction of music releases and tours in the future with any singer that they choose to front them. Chester's son has no say on this. Continuing Linkin Park means honoring Chester's legacy. Mike was doing his own solo stuff, could've easily released the new album under a new name and never play Linkin Park songs ever again, but how would that be keeping Chester's legacy alive? The songs Chester helped create with the band deserve to be heard, even if someone else sings his parts. I don't look at Emily as someone replacing Chester since Mike made it clear during the livestream when he said, “in the role of Chester Bennington is each of you,” meaning no single person could ever fill his shoes. Chester’s presence and impact are irreplaceable, and keeping the band going ensures his legacy remains a part of that journey.

Linkin Park didn't die when Chester bailed on life! They waited 7 years to move on. Other bands have replaced lead singers and continued on successfully. AC/DC , BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, VAN HALEN, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS...(Oddly with Chester Bennington)! So, replacing members is not uncommon. They have been more than respectful. Jaime Bennington can voice his opinion... but he is not in the band. Linkin Park 2.0 has arrived. Like them or hate them... feel however you feel! While I do feel that over time, Emily will do fine with the band, I do have something to add: 1. I don't feel they should call themselves Linkin Park anymore, as they are no longer the Linkin Park that Chester built a legacy with. 2. How dare you say that Chester "bailed on life"!!! As someone who has Clinical Depression myself, it is often very difficult to manage stress/negative situations, and yes, I've been pushed to the point of feeling like there was no other way out. Having to deal with those emotions, and being a very well known celebrity on top of that must have made it nearly impossible to manage, and the fact that Chester still pushed through it much longer than most would have been able to makes him a lot stronger and braver than even most people who the have stressful lives without depression.

I love Linkin Park, and I'm glad they're back, but I feel like there's so much shit going around (unintentional or not) that I feel like this won't end well.
I don't know how they will survive this wave of hate and accusations (whether they are true or not, it doesn't matter), I have never seen such a big wave of hate. There has been everything, and I sincerely expected that something like this could happen with more purist people of linkin park, but it was definitely much bigger than I expected, I don't know what to think, maybe with the passing of time things will calm down and it won't be as dramatic as I see it now, but the situation looks very bad and dark.
To be fair, their new single is topping the charts and all their upcoming live shows are sold out already. Also worth noting that the like/dislike ratio on all their recent videos is overwhelmingly positive. Once again, I think this is a case of "online negative press" not reaching the real world whatsoever.

Some people just can't accept the fact their father is mentally ill enough that they'd rather die than live, often suicide is more an impulse than a plan. There's a chance that in the depths of Jaime's mind he thought his father would rather die than be around, and he couldn't accept that and decided to try and blame someone else so he he could cope with the tradgedy. Suicide is a "selfish" solution in the sense that those who are in that mindset generally aren't thinking about anyone but themselves. It's always the "me" problem, "i'm" the problem, and their solution is to make "everyone else's lives easier by removing myself" but they are so deep in their own mental illness that they don't realize just how many people love them and how much their death would hurt those who care deeply for them.
Why would Mike conspire to kill Chester? It's that kind of mentally ill thinking that Chester may have been going down the road of, and mental illness is a sickness that distorts the thinking. I hope Jaime gets help.

The band name doesn't have to change. When Tracii Guns left Guns N' Roses, the name didn't change. The band also didn't end with his departure. They hired Slash, who became the signature sound provider for the band.
You talked about Chester's vocals and how he added real emotions in the lyrics, then you must've skipped 'One More Light'. The entire song is about moving on, no matter whose dead.

Yep and I hear that Mike wrote The Emptiness Machine before Emily ever sang it/was going to join the band, but they've been friends for the past 5 years or so, and I wouldn't be surprised if she confided in him. When I think about the lyrics as they could pertain to someone's ties to Scientology, it makes a lot of sense to be a "fuck this shit I'm out" sort of thing full of anger and regret. Most people were born into that and just like any religion (they are all cults tbh) it is incredibly difficult to reject it especially if you are raised in it without having friends or family shun you for it/worse. I have been a fan of Linkin Park since I was 15/16 back in 04/05. I have always wanted to see them, but I grew up in a place where nobody tours (you can probably work that out from my name) and travelling interstate as a kid just wasn't gonna happen. I was getting ready for their Aussie tour announcement when Chester died. I was rather saddened about it and knew that I would never get to see them.
Mike, and the rest of the band deciding to get the band back together has been the highlight of this year, because I know that there might be a slight glimmer of hope that I will get to see LP perform live. Yes, I know it's only 3 out of the 6 original members now, and it sucks I won't get to see the OG, but I am still really excited to see where they go from here. I am excited to hear the album. I am just excited knowing that my all time fav band is back, making music and doing shows. I will be one of the first to get tickets to an Aussie show!
When it comes to the personal lives of each individual band member, I couldn't give a rats arse. I admire them for the music they make, not for them going to the shop to buy some bread and milk or having lunch with their family at some random cafe..
Side note: I am off to see hybrid Theory in a couple of months when they hit Melbourne. I cannot wait!

I felt divided at first too. This was before all the stuff about Emily surfaced cause I didn't even know her as a singer. I feel like shes doing a great job honoring Chester's legacy. She's not him, will never be him and she knows she has major shoes to fill. At the same time, it makes it a little hard listening to someone other than Chester. But we need to remember, he never really left us. As long as we continue singing his songs, he's alive in each of us as Mike said. Keeping his memory alive doesn't just fall on the band, it falls on all of us. Chester's goal with Linkin Park wasn't just to spread awareness of these awful things happening, but to let us know we are never alone in dealing with them. Now, as fans, we have a choice: do we live in the past and only listen to their old stuff? I for one would not blame you. Or do we accept what has happened and support the bands decision. Cause in the end (no pun intended) they didnt make the decision just for them, they made it for us too.
the new vocalist is interesting. i like that it is female vocals because that stops the direct comparisons with chester. the song was mediocre though. it didnt felt good. they need to start making good songs asap because thats what will save them. I personally am finding it hard to accept anyone but Chester as the lead singer of Linkin Park but I also understand it is the rest of the bands livelihood. Go easy on Jaime. Once a prime member is gone, especially the singer who had the biggest influence for the bands success, imo the band should be done. These aftermath continuations with other bands like STP and AnC, it’s not the same and it’s even worse when the new singer tried to replicate the old singer. I can see Cheater son opinions and why he has a reason to express this.
Chester Benninton is one of a kind. Irreplaceable. Technically superior to other vocalist and artist. He was special. Creative. Very unique and Extremely Talented. Screamed like a fkn demon and had the voice of an angel. Completly Original. I honestly dont think they should continue without him.

People also tend to forget sometimes, regardless of who’s in the band, that it’s for the greater good and for fans to celebrate the music and those we’ve lost. And Chester’s son should be happy his fans still celebrate him and keep him relevant. Mike, Brad and Rob are the founding members of Linkin Park. They hired Chester who replaced Mark Wakefield in 2000. The Pantera reunion would've been the same if Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul did it, not Phil and Rex.
I was wondering why can’t they create a new band with a new singer with a different name with brand new songs? They could occasionally perform one or two songs of LP during concerts to pay tribute to Chester. Chris Cornell did that with the RATM members when creating Audioslave.

I have been a fan of LP since the beginning. LP holds a special place in my heart because their music has got me through some of my hardest times. And my opinion on this is they should have just made a new name for the band. Im not denying that emily's vocals are really solid, and i dont really care about the controversy surrounding her. It just feels like an empty shell of LP, and they are tring to capitalize on the LP name. I see them as a Mike Shinoda band version 2.0.

Regarding Emily's past, the one thing I'll say is that I trust Mike Shinoda. I trust Joe, Brad, Dave. I trust Talinda, Chester's widow. And they all approved of Emily. Emily apologized for her mistake regarding Danny, and as for the Scientology tie-in, as you said, people change. But sadly, Scientology is not something you quit in a bombastic way if you don't want trouble. Juding by the fact that Emily is openly gay, supports LGBTQ+ rights and has now joined a band that constantly talks about mental illness, she is now VERY CLEARLY not sharing the views of Scientology. And take it as you want, but the lyrics of The Emptiness Machine are blatantly about quitting a cult or organized religion. There's no other meaning that makes as much sense. So to me, all of this is as close to a statement we'll ever get. And that's fine.

There's one thing we have to understand as an audience - and you don't have to like what I'm gonna say either or agree with me - but it is a fact that a lot of artists out there make great stuff and their personal, political or religious views might not always coincide with our own views. That still doesn't take away the fact that they are great artists and produce great stuff. Sometimes as an audience we have to separate the 2. I would have had issues with her still supporting Danny Masterson, but she did come out and say sorry - whether it was crafted or not - she did it and I appreciate that. She's clearly said she is no longer in contact with him. I'm not a fan of scientologists either, but I am mature enough to separate that from the fact that she's a good singer and she emotes Chester's voice inflections in many ways. Listening to her sing got me teary-eyed and gave me goosebumps. I'm gonna continue to support Linkin Park and I wish them the best.
When the lead singer of joy division died the band changed the name to new order. Linkin park should have come back under a new name.

Yeah that comparison just doesn't work. Brian Johnson had his own unique style which thankfully fell in perfectly with ACDCs existing music, but the band then also released new and arguably their best material with Back in Black. So they could do some old songs for the die hard fans while still moving the band on from Bon Scott. Linkin Park have like 3 good songs from back in the day that were ruined for me by their new singer, and then their new stuff sucks imo. They are not going to be releasing a back in black level album any time soon.
