Quick tip! If you don't have the funds for a lightbox (I know they're pretty cheap but alot of us are on a tight budget!) you can make due with a smart phone! Before I could afford to get a lightbox I saved a plain white background into my photos. Then when I was weeding I would pull up the white background and turn the brightness on my phone all the way up! Works best for smaller projects but if you're patient you can do bigger projects. Hope this helps another crafter on a budget!

Your tips are perfect. I just bought a light pad, now put an empty box of tissues for my weeding and now will use a weeding box around my projects. Thank you!!

Put a clear piece of clear vinyl over the light box to help with scratching from use and the weeding tools. It also helps to keep it clean and in better shape for longer!

I’m new to Cricut/weeding. I am having LOTS of trouble weeding 🙄. When I start to weed out what I don’t want I keep on pulling up parts of the design and ruining it. I have been using Cricut vinyls. Any help gratefully received.

Sounds like a cutter adjustment issue. I don't have a Cricut but on my pro vinyl cutter, I can adjust the depth of the cutting blade. That might be your issue.

I appreciate you taking time to share your knowledge with the world, and your videos are well-made in the sense of no background noise, good lighting, and you speak clearly. So, in an effort to not be negative but hopefully to give feedback you can use...this video was incredibly vague. I searched for "using a light pad for weeding" and I recognized you, so I chose your video. But the camera never viewed exactly what you were doing nor did it show the effect of using a light pad versus not using one. From the angle of the camera the viewer does not see what you are seeing therefore I did not see the benefit of using one. Also, you mention that there are multiple weeding tools, and you said you had a favorite, which you picked up and showed the camera, but you didn't say "why" it is your favorite, no did you explain "why" I need an actual tool designated for weeding versus any old pointy metal object I may have laying around my craft room already.
So, in this newbies opinion, I am just one person and maybe no one else shares my opinion, but your video is titled "Must Know Tips..." and in your intro you said beginners as well as experienced users would be able to learn from you, but all I have are more questions. I still don't know why I should use the tools and light pad you speak of, and while your video is only five minutes in length, it is five minutes I've now wasted, which discourages me. And if you are promoting your memberships, you might consider this as your sales pitch - it may seem silly to you, but if I get good instruction here on YT, then I am likely to pursue and follow and maybe even pay for such memberships.
OK, I'm done, and again, I don't intend to be mean or negative...I do appreciate your willingness to share. :-)

The current project I am working on involves very small fonts for a design in a 3 inch shape, I am currently using the hook and a tweezer and the bright box, are there any tips or tools that would work better. I ended up using a stencil font as that was the one I made the least mistakes with. Any tips or tools for small projects, fonts, tools, etc.

    • @sharon94503

I found that using a large quilting pin works best for the super fine weeding. They are sharp and grab exactly where you want it, and they are cheap enough to throw away if they dull. Why pay $10 for a single tool? Also, I found that if you are going to work with super fine/tiny pieces, I use Arteza vinyl. The vinyl is a tad thicker and more flexible, and stays on the backing as where the cricut vinyl let's the tiny pieces pop off the backing too easily.

Not to knock cricut, im starting on a budget and was turned off by the price my circut supplier charged for cricut weeding tools. My solution, i went on ebay (or wish or amazon what ever) and bought a dentist dental pick for a buck from china.
The same the dentist uses to clean teeth and cause pain with.
Watching you use that cricut tool, by observation i would have to say it works better.
The cricut mini spatula tho, i might grab one of those soon.

I am new to Cricut and have struggled weeding. I feel like my blade isn't making a deep enough cut. I changed the settings to "more" pressure in the settings but my vinyl and even paper seem to pull. When I watch videos they always seem to weed without tearing.

It might tear, thats okay. It just means your blade is really new. Not a big deal. It means you need LESS pressure, not more.

Is that the original “backing” to the vinyl? The clear sheet your weeding your vinyl off of?

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  4 роки тому

No, this is technically the top, not the backing. this is HTV (Heat transfer vinyl, Iron-On) and it comes with built in transfer tape which is the clear layer, which is also why you have to cut it shiny side down and mirror your image. Here's a beginner video for you: ua-cam.com/video/Md-X0arZnqg/v-deo.html
