I think it's a great move for apple, since iPhones are so expensive, the SE 2020 might be purchased by lots during the covid-19 crisis, but on the other hand I'm still using my current phone 🙂
Apple finally understood that:
- Lots of people don't want a shoe-sized smartphone (like me)
- Lots of people dont't like Face ID (like me)
- Lots of people do want to have a home button (like me)
- Lots of people don't need professional cameras (like me)

There's no night mode on the camera, bc the website in the specs section literally says night mode won't be present☹️

I love my SE, but now the battery needs replacement. I will be purchasing this new SE.
The iPhone SE exists mostly for two reasons 1) size, 2) price. My primary use for a phone is voice communication and storing tons of music. All other functions are handled with an iPad Pro.

I’ve been waiting for the upgrade for ages (still on my original SE, the first iPhone I could afford). Disappointed to hear that it’s going to have a black border only on the front, I do prefer it in white.

I expected better battery life for the iPhone SE compared to the iPhone 8 since it would have room for more battery due to having Haptic Touch instead of 3D Touch. 😢

iPhone is really a dream to keep. Here in Pakistan the apple products are damn pricey but this iPhone SE 2020 n iPad 7 will be a good deal for most of us who can't afford apple products.

I have an iphone 6 plus. The front camera doesn’t work. Stopped working a year ago. But almost a $900 for a phone. I just couldn’t see myself paying that much money. I love that my phone connects with my macbook. So this is perfect for me.
I think the advantage the original iPhone SE had was the fact that the camera modules were able to be completely incorporated on that chassis, but we must remember that it did not have 3D Touch as that would probably have complicated the build in that size. The cameras have become multiple module monsters now, which might mean the insides of the iPhone 8 chassis might have been a little cramped. At that time multiple camera modules belonged on the plus version where there is enough space. The iPhone 11 series of phones is thick while they still have a missive camera bump, that might mean that these camera modules are very deep in the Z axis.
I love the design of the 8 to me it’s the perfect size. I kinda want to get the SE.

I'm all about smaller phones nowadays, if I want a bigger screen I'll just use an iPad. Plus, there was a time when 4.7 was actually considered big lol, it's all relative

Well night mode in the iPhone is not what you think it is. It's only a longer exposure to get more light in. When you shoot in nightmode you need to keep the iPhone 11 still. It's just software so it could come to the SE too.
I personally believe that the processor is a massive factor in buying a phone these days as it can provide it power for years to come, so the fact they've given the SE the A13 is pretty amazing. That said, I do remember a time when even flag ship phones used to come in around this price point so it's difficult for me personally to consider this a "bargain" phone. For me that's more around the $299 price point minimum, but I appreciate we'll likely never see an iPhone at that level.
If they make a plus version of this I will buy. As I currently have an iPhone 8 Plus so I don’t want to go to the smaller screen size

They should drop the plus size SE soon. In the earlier rumours we saw both sizes! I’d definitely go for that as all my cases will fit - I’m happy with a chin & Touch ID and all the specs but want/need the plus size. That should have a better camera set up with the double cams,bigger cell & more ram came with the earlier models so that would also make it a better buy for some. I’ll keep my fingers crossed it does come or I’ll be forced to get another as like a huge screen - football & f1 on a tiddler is a headache! I like that they did away with white faces - SE looks like a sweet iPhone especially for the money. I want the SE Pro/Max/Plus tho....😎

In general it's a XR in an iPhone 8 case.
All the portrait mode features are software based, and so is the night mode. I don't understand why it's not present. It's just shameless upselling.
@@iFuff The XR doesn’t have Night Mode either, that’s an iPhone 11 thing. I’m willing to believe that it isn’t just software, that maybe the iPhone 11 has a sensor that can handle Night Mode where the SE’s can’t, but even if that’s the case I’m still disappointed they didn’t stick an 11 sensor in there. I would have paid extra for it too.

May be Apple had an overstock of the iPhone 8 body, hence the new SE being made with in the iPhone 8 body.

I would like a smaller phone but I’m more interested in the possibility of a 5.4 inch screen iPhone 12. Since my phone is basically my only camera I want the best camera phone I can afford within reason but I don’t need a large screen since I use iPad’s and a MacBook for almost all my internet activity. My phone is basically just for calls and photos

Just waiting to see some real camera samples before I pull the trigger on the SE.
It's sad that it does not have face id and night mode camera; but for me is all about the size small is always better due to I think we're stuck on big screens and should we be focusing on new ground braking tech....I don't know something like virtual screens or so. Small and super ultra light weight is the future.

iOS 13 has night mode. All iPhones 6s and up running iOS 13 therefore they have all dark mode.

So many people complaining about the lack of night mode... the camera is fine. What you need is the software part. "cough" NeuralCam "cough", same as with any android phone, just get the gcam from pixel series and you are all set. Battery... battery case isnt that expensive.

Portait mode probably does what Android phones do - portrait mode masking the main subject and blurring everything else.
With a single (non flight time) camera, there is no depth data.
This phone is pretty good
the lack of night mode means nothing to me. I have a DSLR if I want some night shots. I have an XR and I am getting the SE because I am sick of Face ID, plus I want to try this thing out.
This is a budget priced phone so there is a trade off between price features. There are also user who want power and speed but don't need a feature rich device.

Apple claimed the A13 was a majority of the reason for the battery life improvements in the 12 over the XR/XS, yet the SE can’t beat the A11-powered 8?
Yeah i was confused by that as well! The A13 is supposed to be more power efficient. Hopefully real world tests are positive.

I’d choose this over the S10e if it had the second camera, night mode, and a headphone jack (pipe dream, I know).
128GB is the best choice I am now using the 11 128gb and I still got quite a lot of space for more picture even though 60% of my photo is from my lecturer’s note 🙃

As usual the Australian price is nowhere near the US price at the current exchange rate. Currently, US$399 = AU$629, but the Australian price starts at AU$749.

I wouldn't be complaining about the "drawbacks" because of the price. This is Apple's smartest move right now: doing what Google does when releasing the Pixel 3a series.
It's NOT often you see a sentence like "iPhone for $399" put together, when Apple is known for selling their phones for $700 or higher.
For anyone that never had an iPhone and wants to get one, this SE 2nd Generation is a great entry choice to begin with: getting the latest iOS out of the box, and a (dated) shell of the iPhone 8. And if those new iPhone users want to upgrade in the future, the transition will gradually be easier.
I was hoping for the overall form size to be more like the #iPhone5 #iPhone5s but this would still do. If I want a big screen phone, it needs to have a stylus like Samsung Galaxy Note series smartphones. However, I'm fed up with #GooglePay and #SamsungPay feature availability fragmentations. #GooglePay supports Japanese E-money and transit cards as long the device is Osaifu Keitai compatible which many devices sold outside of Japan, despite models being the same, don't. #SamsungPay restricts regional transit and e-money cards such as #FeliCa-based #Octopus #八達通 #SmartOctopus to respective regional models. So basically, tourists can't have the option to turn their phone into respective local transit and e-money cards without first purchasing a respective local compatible device which would already turn off many tourists from bothering to get one and rather stick with the limited options available instead. Also compared to the first gen #iPhoneSE, this supports #FeliCa-based transit and e-money cards such as #Suica (useful for transit and microtransactions at convenience stores, vending machines, some shops, restaurants, arcades, etc.), #QUICPay (#JCB's #FeliCa-based credit, debit, and prepaid card network), #iD (local #FeliCa-based credit, debit, and prepaid card network), and coming soon, #香港 #HK-based #Octopus #八達通 #OctopusCard. Furthermore, compared to the #iPhone8, this supports Express Cards with power reserve so last payments and last leg of transit journeys prior to having access to a charger can be made.

I just checked on Apple .com and if I trade my XR in I could get the 128gb SE for $150usd. Very tempting I like smaller phones. However my XR is just fine other than 64gb storage. I could live with either Touch ID or FaceID but FaceID is really cool. and the swipe gestures which I assume also work on Touch ID phones?
