@@GoogleUser-wf8mt Apple is known for severing ties with reviewers who don't play ball with them (eg; Lew from Unbox Therapy) so for business reason reviewers have to parade glory or sugar coat negatives. I can understand why they have to do that. I might have to do the same for my own bread and butter.
Owner of original SE for 4.1 years. Short of battery draining quicker, it’s still a absolute champ. New SE arrives tomorrow:)
Maybe change the battery yourself. A little finicky to do, but I'm sure you can use that phone for a couple more years as a second phone, or make someone else happy. The original SE is still quite snappy.

I see no need for me to upgrade yet. My SE is still running with the latest iOS version. I will update to probably SE (2) once the original SE won’t be in the update cycle anymore. Hopefully the SE will be already discounted by that time

I'm seeing lots of UA-camrs complaining about the large bezels. Am I the only one who likes the look of the bezels? The bottom bezel is just thick enough for the home button to be comfortably centered for finger placement. The thickness of top bezel mirrors the thickness of the bottom bezel to give it a symmetrical look.
I already bought the new SE and my main reason for buying it is because I want a home button, so I'm 100% percent satisfied with this design. I also never liked the look of the new iPhones where the top bezel looks asymmetrical and the screen awkwardly wraps around it in a way that almost looks like an afterthought.

Any major changes or even some seemingly minor tweaks could cause a total re-engineering and re-tooling, negating any savings whatsoever.
I’m still rocking the 6s until my SE arrives. The thing I think every reviewer and most commenters miss is the generational difference.
The under 40 crowd seem to abhor anything with a bezel and a home button. They seem to value insane camera specs the need to be able to have 1000 things running at the same time and ultra HD quality video.
For those of us not in that camp demographically, these phones have been getting out of control over the years as far as price, and to those of us who really use it as a tool, not ascribe our entire life to our phone, things like 4K video and multiple camera lenses just don’t cut it. Paying $1000 for a phone that just takes better pictures didn’t and doesn’t seem reasonable to us old timers.
I would buy the old SE if they still made it it. I don’t understand the need to have a phone that is basically like walking around with iPad. But again, I think this is generational. I actually use my phone to talk to people, a lot. I don’t want a big monster of a thing to deal with.
Sorry to go long, and hopefully nobody took my comments out of context. Not hating on anyone, or trying to sound like the old guy screaming “Get off of my lawn!”. Just pointing out some very real differences and perspectives on how technology is viewed and used.
I think Apple will sell a zillion of these phones.
528Circle it's not just because you are 40+. Most people who will buy this phone aren't necessarily tech nerds like us who watch these type of videos, so you don't see or hear them here. Realistically a lot of tech nerds are more attracted to change and innovation.
I personally know already a few people who ordered this phone and I can guaruantee you they never watched a tech video like this on youtube, they asked my advice though haha. The sort of people who want a simple to use rock solid iphone for the next couple of years without having to pay the price for a 60" 4K television for it. And they aren't oldies 😉 they are just used to iOS..
I think there are many people who don't use their phones that much. And there are many Apple users who can only afford the budget models. But today's Apple devices give you plenty at the low end. This new SE has great specs, and 64GB is plenty -- remember when Apple kept the low end at 16GB for so long? For me a phone is mostly about having a communication device, but I only use it a few times a day -- not constantly checking and posting things throughout the day like some. Having a good camera with you is nice. As for the design, I never had any such reaction of hating bezels, or finding bezels too much. The original SE still looks great to me. So don't think you are alone. There are many Apple users out there who will be fine with the new SE as their main phone. And I hope this signals an Apple that returns to giving people great value. Remember when the the original iPad was introduced at $499, but everyone was expecting it to be $999? That is the Apple that I like. And in a sense, that Apple has returned, because the iPad is more affordable than ever, and for $499 you can get a very good iPad Air these days. But there is still that other side of Apple that asks $300+ for an iPad keyboard. But I'm fine with it if Apple at least thinks of the low end. The new MacBook Air shows that Apple cares a little more about the low end.

528Circle I’m in my late 50s, and I agree completely. I prefer the home button with Touch ID. I prefer the bezels, and the size of the SE, as it allows for easy one-hand operation. I miss my iPhone 8. I’m using an iPhone X right now. I frequently touch the screen accidentally, causing unwanted actions and frustration, not to mention unnecessary arthritis pain. Can’t wait for my new SE.

Is that why it lacks night mode? Macro/Ultrawide/Zoom cameras? A good sized battery? Good fast charging? AMOLED/OLED screen? Cause other phones for it's price have all that, and even have a good processor too if you think about Realme x2 Pro or Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro

Think about it. Most people care about a good camera and a clean interface. This phone is magnificent for most folks.

4º You didn't dismiss my point, the phone is overpriced, for the same price Realme X2 Pro and Mi 9T Pro also have your so called "essential" flagship chipset, but ALSO have all those things the SE doesn't have that are pretty basic in literally ANY 2020 phone and they cost the same price. I'd much rather the phone had a bigger battery or charging speed or night mode than IP64 of all things.
this phone keeps tempting me lol. its small and compact,simple, good screen, premium build, killer processor and performance, wireless charging and a good camera. would make a good first step into ios for me buut that battery life keeps holding me back i dont game on my phone i literally use my phone for whatsapp and youtube and text messages mostly so i know it would be ok but longterm is an issue

Today I ordered SE2. Super excited for it.
The 6s was the best iPhone I ever had...I've been using an original SE but as I'm doing more on the phone I find that the screen is a little small....I think the screen size for the 2020 SE is perfect!

479€ for 64GB in Europe for this small outdated looking phone with desighn from 2014, single camera and small battery...I dont know, it is really a good deal? You know, it cost 399$ only in USA, and USA its not the whole world (even tho americans think so) Battery life alone is deal breaker for me. iPhone 7 was terrible in terms if battery life and SoT after 1 year of use...
Considering its CPU is still better than the most expensive Android is fine. Should last a lot longer.

With 350€ I bought a phone with Snapdragon 855 amazing notchless Amoled display that is going to last many years. I have 2 Samsung phones that are 5 years old and are still used by my parents. So long life is not only for iPhone.

Great review as always, I will consider this as a replacement for my daughter's first SE Phone that she is using. I would keep it clean and say the SE would help Apple in this current climate and go for it be the Savior Edition (SE) ;).....
Apple isn’t being “Lazy”. They are being smart by reusing iPhone 8 parts, which saves them a ton of money and makes it even possible to price this phone at $400

@@elias4591 There's already a market for phones that are redesigned every year and are cheap. This is a cheaper iPhone. Two different target markets. Some people don't care about a redesign and just want an iOS device. In my opinion, iPhones pay for themselves, considering the fact that you get half a decade's worth of use out of them. The latest version of iOS is still supported on the 2015 iPhone 6s. You can run the previous version of iOS on iPhone 5s, a device that came out in 2013.

Thank you for putting them up together You were the first after several days of searching for a good comparison of the 2016 SE and the 2020 SE. I still use my 2016 SE for my phone use. I have 6 old iPhone 3GS's (now relegated to iPod type use) and 3 iPod 5th Gen's so I have a nice collection of phones. When everyone else was using the new iPhone 6 I was using the iPhone 3gs lol. But after iPhone X came out i upgraded to the 2016 SE and am still using... thinking of upgrading to the 2020 SE though... got to save up the $599 for the 256GB... Thank you again for the comparison.

I think many original SE users will. Despite not being the same size, it is small enough. I will keep using the original SE, but I have to change the battery. Hopefully, I will not break anything. Will it last me another two years? For now, the performance has been fine.
GenX TV I’ve had the battery in mine changed by apple over a year ago and it’s like a new phone, I’m down to 85 percent health now. Not bad at all! I will replace the battery soon. It’s a simple process it’s hard to go wrong, have a look at the tutorials on UA-cam! Good luck
@@doubledown9 One difference is the new iPhone SE is water resistant, so not so easy to replace the battery yourself. But it's a trade off, because water resistance sure is nice to have.

The Iphone X design is of the current line up with Face Recognition and dual camera while the new Iphone SE 2 has a Touch ID and new A13 Bionic chip which has the new iphone 11 models have. How come last year's Pixel 3a is able to do Night Sight with a mid range processor but iPhone can't with it's new mighty A13 processor. Both have single lense in the back too.

@@fbiagent6744 True, but I'm still hoping Apple will add night mode to all newer iPhones come iOS 14. Sure, it might not be up to iPhone 11 (Pro) standard, but any night mode is better than none. I think even the A12 of the XR would be plenty capable of giving decent night shot. But Apple probably also wants all night shot pictures to be of the same quality, and this means having at least the iPhone 11 lens and image sensor + A13 chip. I would be satisfied with a lesser quality night mode image on the new SE.

This was a really nice review,i'm getting my SE 2020 on Tuesday! I'm looking forward to it(despite all the negative reviews about this phone)! It's a big upgrade for someone coming from the original SE! I dont need all the special gadgets and what not...especially since i'm not a gamer!

Apple is Lazy (but smart on how to get maximum money from customers) - if you are putting A13 chip in an old phone- you are already redesigning your internal circuit boards. If so, then why not redesign the externals as well. Also, I phone bodies are machined - so all they had to do was reprogram there CNC machines to cut as per new designs- but they didn't bother to redesign.

Bought an new Apple Watch 5 for my wife the other day and we tried to set it up with her old but reliable iPhone 6 only to find that it couldn’t update to the latest iOS and therefore couldn’t setup the new watch....thanks Apple...NOT. So I had to go and buy her this new SE phone. So, glad to hear and see that she will be getting a really good camera and hopefully she will be getting better life because the iPhone 6 had terrible battery plus also wireless charging and hopefully we set up her watch ( which ended up setting up with my daughters iPhone 7 but now she gets all my daughter emails and texts). Great review as usual but can you tell me will I also have to buy her a new case or will her old iPhone 6 case do? Plus I have extra glass screen protectors for the iPhone 6 will they fit the SE or will have to also buy new screen protectors.

Getting mine today,,been using the 6 for years,,still performs well, actually will be giving it to my 11 year old daughter for her 1st phone,,can not wait. Personally I like a smaller fingerprint phone, and being that they recycled the 8 case doesn’t bother me one bit,,excellent phone at an excellent price point.

I've been an Android user for 5 years, and I've been thinking about switching (mostly for storage and camera quality). I'm still deciding whether or not I should just save up for the 11 or just get the SE. I do like the sleeker design of the 11, but that's just personal preference (I do like the red SE, though). What would you suggest?
Whatever you do dont go for the SE unless you want a throwback to 2014, it's all cool thinking about it until you have to live with it
