Dude, no offense. But before rushing in to this one...How long do you think we are away from 5G ? 1-2 years ? 3 years for it to become standard ? I bought iphones because I think it's overall better builded and last stably longer ...But keep in mind that we are on the verge of the Next Generation so this one may not age that well.

@@lexluthor4156 No need to upgrade to 5G yet. Fuckers here in Europe didn't even cover 4G properly. 5G will not have full and RELIABLE coverage for minimum 3-5 years. 4g is sufficient for streaming, surfing the web, playing games, social media.

They really went low, SUPER LOW with the other things besides the chipset, low battery, low screen quality, no audio jack, no expandable memory on a 64GB phone(while most other 64GB phones do), low camera flexability, low night time photo quality. Yes low indeed.

Yep. Charging $400 rather than $500 is smart. Once you're hooked on Apple services, they'll get that $100 out of you over time. For now, it's a sale. You stay or join the iOS ecosystem, give them a sale in a dicey year, which helps Apple keep a larger part of the smartphone pie. They'll do well in 2021.
Thomas Lane They’ve been planning this phone for a while now... They can’t just think of and produce a whole smartphone in a couple weeks/month. They have to test it and create millions of units. It’s a long process. It just happened to already be releasing during all of this. Ive been hearing rumors on it for months now
Personally I like the form factor of the new iPhone SE. I love the fact that it has touch ID. All the newer iPhones are nice, but this form factor is what I’m comfortable with. I don’t need a new design every year, just the same phone with better internals.

I mean, literally every company is doing mid-range spec phones like samsung a10, a20, a30, a 50 e.t.c. or honor 8x, 9x , p30, 20 lite e.t.c. AND THEY ALL COST LESS THAN 400 BUCKS. And also they have more and better cameras, extremely thin foreheads or pop-up cameras, better battery life, and much better service than Apple has.
@Avinash Shankar You're suggesting most people don't care about the bezeless trend but that's the way the market has been tending towards for years now. Consumers will follow the trends that companies tell them to. That's why people think they're worth more for having wireless earphones and happily spend 1k on a phone while treating those who don't do the same like peasants. Frankly, if you're not running a case on a phone, you might as well hand over your money for a screen replacement. None of that invalidates what Wild Fox15 said.

@Avinash Shankar Apple is in a special position. Over the years it's been able to dictate a number of anti-consumer changes that people accept. Consumers talk with their wallet. The phone industry reminds me of the gaming industry. £50 games come incomplete and riddled with microtransactions and they keep doing it because consumers continue to pay for it. It's the same thing here. Companies have been involved in the mid-range market for years. I have an A70 and it's perfect but no one cares as much if even Samsung or Google pioneer flagship designs for a lower price. That's why Apple can bring back a dated 2014 design in 2020. It's all marketing and perceived value.

There's really something to be said for how much easier it is to use a phone like the SE one-handed in this day and age of bigger and bigger screens too.

Things are actually getting interesting now. Oneplus has tried for a few years now trying to compete with flagships, and now they’re gonna have to try to out kill a flagship killer with the SE. I’m looking forward to what their response is to the SE and if the price is compelling enough without compromising the experience, I might just consider them.

Salem Bamakshab the design definitely does not compare, but the guts are head-to-head with Apple’s flagships, and so yes, it would be a flagship killer in a sense. People looking to upgrade the a fairly new and shiny iPhone would probably choose the SE because you get a mostly flagship experience without breaking the bank.

InfiniteLoop Even with the small battery, when you compare it with my iPhone 7 Plus with bigger battery they almost feel the same. It's just so good at optimising such small battery. Also it's a smaller phone.

I hope that the rumored oneplus lite is going to come out, I use a oneplus phone and if they keep offering good deals even for $600 I will easily keep with them.
Muyeed ----- If you look at margins for smartphones, only the high-end makes much money. At the low-end companies like Huawei (around 200-300) barely make anything in the way of profit (like $19 on average). Apple is really the only company that can afford to do something like the SE. It has a high-end processor that the other guys can't afford to do. They make a reasonable amount on the SE like $150. The reason Apple can afford it is that the majority their sales are in the high-end where lots of profit is made. Apple is spending big bucks in R&D every year that the other guys can't match.

Apple's playing 5D chess from the beginning. Jack up flagship prices so companies like One Plus who're in the affordable flagship killer market follow suit in term of pricing. Then release a budget iPhone that destroyed all these aforementioned companies market share in one fell swoop. Brilliant.
I don't think there main goal is to destroy the smaller companies. There main competition is Samsung let's be real and Samsung (in my opinion) is doing really well with flagship phones over apple so apple decided to go down to budget to retain there sales. They knew if they only focused on top tier flagship phones then they wouldn't see a big change in sales. It's a good adjustment but I'm still waiting to see innovation.
You're right in terms of apple controlling smartphone pricing a bit, but where it's wrong is that OnePlus didn't play catch-up with apple. basically every new smartphone brand gotta start somewhere to attract costumers, and those customers are categorised of course,some companies try to create rave and attract teenagers, One plus targeted enthusiasts to gain sales by introducing themselves as "flagship killers", but when the company gets bigger 1 category of customers won't be enough, they gotta shift away and start creating a brand name by creating high end smartphones that breaks news across countries, that's the strat of every smartphone business to start

My first and only iPhone that I have owned and used was the 5s. It wasn't a bad phone and it did most of the stuff I needed to do, but it wasn't a phone for me and I upgraded to the Galaxy S7. Now I have the Galaxy S9+ and after using it for almost two years I've started to hate big screen phones and after 4 years of using an Android I'll probably switch to an iPhone again. The iPhone SE is a great option for me because I want a small phone that will minimize my phone usage.

I swear a 200 dollar phone like Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s offers everything better than this phone BUT the chipset. And as long as u dont play some demanding game the you won't even notice a diference in the Xiaomi's processor.
This phone has crap battery, crap display, no macro/zoom/ultrawide flexibility, not even night mode.

Haha I feel you on that. I am sure we will get our first $1500 starting price iPhone here shortly. I do think Apple could do better on their mid range products. The iPhone 11 is good but the iPad Air should really be able to be bezel-less and have USB-C or bezl-less and offer some decent storage at the current price. The price difference isn't even that far from the Pro model so it almost makes more sense to get the Pro.
I don’t think you understand what Apple has been trying to do lately. They’re selling cheaper phones (the iPhone 11 was cheaper than the iPhone XR) and now a $400 iPhone. They’re doing this to get people into their ecosystem. This way people will use other products and services (Apple Music, iCloud, Apple TV, Apple Card, Apple Watch, AirPods etc) which on the long run, gives them way more money than an expensive iPhone.
I was addicted to only owning flagship phones, until i broke my last one and said fk it, let me try the Pixel 3a XL. One of the best decisions ever done.
Not because I saved a few bucks, but because I've realized spending excessive money on things that are not needed is not wise.

Russell Lapua I heard there are some apps that can give you more camera features and night mode. You should look into those. Neural cam costs a few bucks but someone recommended it to me, I haven’t tried it yet but probably will since I switched from a P3.

Into the ecosystem? Yes. But I have to wonder how deep the ecosystem actually is; I think it's mostly an illusion. I haven't been able to persuade myself to keep an Apple Watch (I've bought one several times) yet, because I can't help but feel like I spent $500 on something that does nothing. The iPad? Same story: as someone who doesn't use the Pencil, I feel like I just grab my phone instead of it. The Apple TV? Most people just use a smart TV. Where does that leave the Apple ecosystem? Just the iPhone and the Mac?

I’ve had mine for a few weeks and I love it. I upgraded from a 2016 SE. I like the smaller form factor and now I have a bigger screen and icons. The fact that this will get updates for years is great. The A13 Bionic chip is fast. I use my phone for web surfing, the occasional game (asphalt 8) and social media. I carry mine in a hip holster and I don’t need an IPad sized phone. This is a steal for $400!

sony needs to bring back his compact flagships, last year when I bought my oneplus 7 pro there was not a single 5" or smaller phone with decent specs
I get what you’re saying those compact phones were tiny powerhouses. But those days are long gone. Developers are lazy and designing apps to work for screen sizes larger than 5 inches. That’s just reality. I have to let go of my SE sooner than later because most of the apps I use on a daily basis have terrible support. Text and buttons either don’t work or get pushed off screen.
