Thanks for the comment on my channel. I’m actually local to Calgary, I used to fish a lot when I was younger but stopped. I’ve been getting back into it and want to start fly fishing. Unfortunately with the cold coming in most shops aren’t hosting lessons. When I start maybe we can head out to the bow and try to catch some fish!
Let me know when you start. I'm certainly no guide but sometimes it can be nice to have someone else catch fish beside you if you aren't landing them yourself!
@@RosinFlyFishing perfect! I honestly may start in the winter if I can get the appropriate gear. I can’t wait until next year man, I’m impatient. (Maybe not the best quality of an angler haha)
I occasionally practice casting 2 handers right under the Stoney trail bridge on river left. Maybe I’ll run into you one day. Thanks for the video and good luck out there.
Thanks for the heads up! I didn't go past the bridge supports on this trip but there was a bunch of fishy looking water under and west of the bridge that I want to focus on next time. Water is pretty low these days though and dropping a bit daily.
awesome video keep up the good work
Thx my guy :)
I tried fly fishing once it was a disaster, u make it look easy! Left my fly rod out by the pond like a knucklehead and ran over it with my tractor.
Haha how do I make it look easy? I didn't catch anything! If you check out my Cranston videos though I do have some more experience by then and some good tips for fishing the the Bow River if that's where you are located! And hey... You aren't the first guy to lose or drive over your rod trust me lol
@@RosinFlyFishing lol I'm not talking about fishing I'm talking about u casting that thing! That's what I seemed to have the most trouble with!
@@RosinFlyFishing Shoot I live in southeast Oklahoma! The trout fishing i do is state stocked fisheries! I was fly fishing in the lake for perch and bass!
@@TheWaterSwatters haha different beast stillwater is. I learned casting a triple rig with tags os very careful work :P. How is fishing down that way this summer?
@@RosinFlyFishing Hot and slow its spring time that we do the best. Lol you might as well been speaking French when talking about your fly rod. I got mine from Walmart lol package deal!
Cool new video! I just subbed! :) I caught a decent size trout I think 6-7 inches on the other side. I didnt realize my officemate gave me a barbless hook so I wasn't able to keep the line tight and it got away. lol. Keep on fishing! On weekends, I try to hit the spots down south of the bow even I live in the NW. Try around Douglasdale going down, huge fish there! Oh also, jumpingpound creek by Cochrane looks decent what my friend told me, there were nice pools and eddies but he was just using his boots so he wasn't able to explore much! Tight lines buddy!!
Thanks and I appreciate the sub! :)
Barbed hooks are not allowed in Alberta I believe, so many including myself feel the pain of losing a fish that was on!! But I do feel it's good not to damage the fish too much for our sport :) The creek near Cochrane sounds great I'm looking for smaller streams/creeks close by to fish so maybe I'll check it out soon. And I don't have waders... Just wear long underwear, neoprene socks, and grippy shoes I don't mind getting dirty! And I definitely need to check out the Bow in the South... Future adventures!
@@RosinFlyFishing Alberta re-introduced allowing anglers to use barbed hooks back in 2011. But I do know now majority of fly fishing anglers continued to use barbless hooks to give the fish high chance of survivability after catching them. I still have barbed hooks but leaning towards crimping them. :)
That's interesting, I think when I first moved to Alberta in 2010 and got my fishing license was Spring 2011... When the barbed hooks were still banned, and I assumed that had not changed! Crazy! Well, I will continue pinching the barbs anyway and earn the fish :) But good to know!
@@RosinFlyFishing ah. They brought it back September 2011. :)
Love your fly fishing vids! How come you stopped uploading?
What do you mean!? I upload almost weekly 😋
The Bow can be a very hard river to fish. Keep trying and thanks for the video!
I'm not giving up :) I know I can get present the flies better and find the fish! Even when I don't land one, just having one on for a few seconds of fight is worth it to me. In the mean time, I will continue to play with editing to figure out enjoyable content that isn't just landing huge trout (though I very much hope for this in the near future!).
Thx for the optimism and comment!
Mr Rosin, with respect, you may wish to watch some other videos regarding fish handling in order to reduce mortality. Lifting a fish, even a small-ish Brown Trout out of the water by it's mouth and hanging on your hook is less than ideal. Invest some time in developing gentler handling methods. Watch in whatever videos you may find, how a more experienced fisherperson will keep a fish in the water, raise the rod tip with one hand to bring the fish to your feet. Wet the other hand, hold the fish, gently roll it onto its back, then use the appropriate hook removal method. You may also wish to invest in a small net, as that can assist greatly especially with larger more vigorous fish. I hope you accept my well intended observation in the spirit in which I intend it: fisherman to fisherman, and in the wish that our traditions and high standards of respect and care for our prey are developed and maintained. I wish you tight lines for the coming season in 2021. Regards.
Thank you Sierra, I appreciate the honest call out and frankly I admit I still need it. I'm still learning, still improving, have since purchased a net, try to never let a fish touch the ground, and more. But I'm far from a good fish handler and I've much to improve on, something that actually hit home on my most recent fish and I actually go through my next video calling myself out on my own mishandling of a beautiful large brown.... I hate that I'm still making such large mistakes, but I need be called out when I do. I've watched multiple videos on fish handling at this point so I know what I 'should' be doing, but I need to put that into practice now with each and every fish. Thanks for the comment, recommendations, and attitude with which you posted your comment! Side note, I've read arguments that with a smaller fish (think
Good content but typical the bow is hard to catch on unless you know a hole
Haha it is a beast for sure but I've started to learn how to tame her! Have a nice NW video coming out in a couple of weeks! Thanks for watching Cory!
@@RosinFlyFishing I’m just learning to fly fish .. I’m a spin caster … but wanna do it all .. went out today .. no luck obvious lol .. she is a hard river
@@coryleschuk4829 it's cool you are learning the fly side... I find it incredibly addicting but I'll admit there are times I wish I had a spinner on me... Don't tell anyone. Happy to chat fly rigs and river approach on Instagram if you're interested :)
@@RosinFlyFishing def .. my ig is Leschuk.art
Haha I wore you down into a subscriber, mission accomplished lol. Added you. Very cool art btw!!!!
would you like to do a fishing trip
I appreciate the thought my guy! :) I'm pretty novice and I sneak out in the early weekend mornings to local spots when my wife is sleepy and when I'm not helping family with landscaping projects, moving, and such. Though I do dream of hitting fishy streams in the mountains, I suspect it will be a while before I can do that. Perhaps some time I'll see you on the river!
Oh and thanks for the sub! I appreciate it as I'm having fun making videos and hope they can be of some entertainment/interest/help to others :)
Awesome well if you would like to hit up some streams or the crowsnest pass area. Those are my favorite and im always finding new spots in the mountains. But i leave at 4 am and back about 10 or 11 pm just to do a days fishing.
Sure we will see eachother on the waters.
Happy fishing bud
Nice, I got started fly fishing last year in the Crowsnest Pass, taking the road into the mountains at Old Man River. Great fishing in those small winding streams for a hike/fishing day. I miss that :)
Oh shit! i knew the fish handling Nazis were coming out for attacks!!!
Haha well they can make good points sometimes, I'm learning and growing and that's all I can do moving forward :)
Your fish handling skill are terrible. Please handle the fish properly if you are going to release them.
I agree. I look back at this and it's very cringe and I know that now. I'm unfortunately still making mistakes, but eager to learn from them and respect the fish more. Thank you for your comment, but I assure you that I am aware of it and striving to improve. Good luck fishing!
