    3. Little to no social life?! TRUTH. My social life consisted of going to Taco Bell at midnight and making small talk with the workers while I was waiting for greasy food that would hopefully keep me awake so I could study for another 8 hrs before heading back to class!

      Ambria Paul I’m the same way.. one last semester to go for me. Can’t believe I managed everting to working, practicum (not to mention a caseload of clients) and raising a child. As a single mother it was very challenging and I’m glad I’m in the finishing line.

    For me I feel that the content for grad school is much easier than undergrad it’s just the time management aspect that makes it more difficult, like working a full-time job at the same time, but it’s definitely nice clout. “ oh she MASTERED it”

    I completely agree with you on your cons, especially as it pertains to friends. I've lost friends and I've been feeling isolated from people but luckily I have a couple of real friends who check in on me from time to time to talk. Grad school for me has been emotionally draining due to the toxic environment in my department. Leaning on God is the only way that is helping me stay focus etc!

    I started my masters program (american but doing it in france in french) and it's really right on point. Being able to dig deeper into the material and subject that interests you and being more competent, but the work load is INTENSE. I'm still trying to accept that I have less free time with friends and sports, etc.. Only time with my BF, the few friends I have left when our schedules match up... and studying studying studying. Need to balance self care routines

    I went to UC Davis and it’s on a quarter system. I’m used to over 12 hours days and reading hundreds of pages of research a week. Multiple research papers due for every class. I double majored so it was a lot. I love what I studies tho so while it was hard it was very enjoyable and one of the reasons I did so well and graduated with honors. My tip is to do something you enjoy learning (as obvious as it sounds) and to schedule ur time accordingly. Block out ur study and class times, going to class is honestly really essential to not only learning but keeping ur productivity going. It’s easier to do ur hw immediately after class (what I recommend or during if it’s a quiz on the lecture) then when ur home lol.

      Ayee, you are nearby! That’s exciting and advanced standing is so great, I wish i had known about it sooner . I did my field internship at a psychiatric hospital and then the next year was at an alternative school. Thank you so much ❤️

    Im a first year psychology major. I originally majored in biology because I wanted to go into pre-med but I switch majors because that’s not what I wanted to do anymore. I’m currently Pursuing a my psychology degree so I can become an LMFT. My main concern was cumulating a ton of debt. I believe everything will turn out well in the long run.

    graduated with my MSW in 2019.... 100% worth it, worked in the field with just a bachelor's degree in psychology for 10 years and it was a struggle, after getting the MSW I've gotten major raises and many many more career opportunities

    Getting my master's degree was odd because it was SO much work... but it just came and went. Writing a 15-20 page paper in Chicago Manual of Style 4 times a semester became grueling. Two years flew by and I did it all with honors; have no idea how I did it. A bachelor's degree in my opinion was far worse because of all the level 200 courses typically taught by adjunct instructors with a goal of never giving you an A no matter how hard you work.

    Hey I have a really important question. How were you able to apply for social work with a psychology undergrad? I am currently in the psch program and I am thinking of applying to a psyc masters but also a social work masters to keep my options open. However I have heard that in an undergrad social work program one usually gets a lot of experience within the program itself that they use and that is required to apply for a masters in social work. So how did you get all the social work experience? Thanks.

      Hey! I had a lot of volunteer experience , so that helped suffice for the experience I would’ve gotten as a bachelors in social work!

  • @Determination212

    My Master's degree was in Public Administration along with a certificate in Health Care Management. I went for a total of 55 credits. In my program, I felt that grad school was easier than undergrad, especially when they weren't as heavy on exams. But it required more time. I was constantly writing research papers and that would make up most of my grade. What also helped is when I had work experience in relation to the program that I was going to. So a lot of my learning was related to my career field which also helped. I often wish there was another step after a Master's degree, I like going to school. At this point, another Master's is probably not going to help me unless I were to move to a more competitive city. There's always an option for me to go for a doctorate degree, but for many employers, they would then see me as overqualified.

      I have been considering getting my mpa. I've been in the public sector for 2 and a half years and feel like theres no way to promote unless I get a graduate degree. What are the courses/ overall program like? Im assuming its less intense than an english or bio masters program. Have you found ur mpa to be helpful in promoting/getting a higher paying job?

    • @Determination212
      @Determination212 4 роки тому

      @@wanderingmerde6868 In my experience, I think it all depends on what city you live in and which government job types you wish to go after. Right after undergrad, I had a friend that went straight to grad school to get his MPA. After he graduated, he immediately was able to start out in a higher level position, but I'm sure it also helped because he lives in Washington D.C. The Hollywood for government. For me, when I got my undergrad, I decided to take some time off from school. Instead, I applied right away for jobs and it took me over a year before I could score my first full-time position in the government. Then while working full-time, I decided to go part-time for my MPA. When I received my MPA, I have used it to apply for other jobs, but so far it hasn't helped me. Where I work in Milwaukee, they look more heavily on direct experience. So ideally, for me it probably didn't make sense for me to get my Master's, but I liked going to school so now I can say that I have it. In an MPA program, at least in mine, we did a lot of case studies and papers. It wasn't as exam based in my program compared to undergrad so I had a bit of an easier time getting good grades. It also helped that I had work experience because I could then add that into my papers or relate to the content that was being taught. In an MPA program, they seemed to focus more on public management classes. So how government works, how programs are managed, what can you do as a manager if you have employees not getting the work done etc.

    Hi! I’m in grad school at the moment.. but my grades are not so good. I’ll be done in few months. I’m on a low second class inclining to a third class. I school in Nigeria. Would it be possible to find good uni’s that will accept me abroad despite my grade if I want to further my education by getting a masters which I hope to go ALL out for?
