another tip: the art of SKIMMING! skimming through chapters is so extremely helpful. picking out the main points of a reading will truly help your graduate career lol
Alex E I just learned this. Chile!!!!!!! Skimming is LIFE!
Alex, this SO true. There's no way that you are going to get through ALL of the material that you have amassed and what has also been given to you. I know that what you are saying is true, because it has worked for me. joe.
#10 reminds me of a quote by Mohammed Ali: I hated every minute of training. But I told myself, "Don't quit, stay with it and spend the rest of your life as a champion!"
#1 keep a planner
#2 find out what helps you relax each week/each day
#3 dark chocolate (caffeine)
#4 purdue owl
#5 group study sessions
#6 understand grad school is not like undergrad
#7 be social
#8 pursue professional development opportunities
#9 caffeine (again)
#10 know that the hard work will pay off
thank you
I have been binge watching graduate degree videos. I loved this video. I already have 3 degrees, and now I'm like it's time for graduate degree and PhD. Thanks for these tips!!
Yasss!!! You got this!
I remember when you posted this, now 2 years later I am watching as I am about to start my masters program. Thanks for the tips, Jade!
Started my first day of Grad School today ! Great video
So awesome! Have you been following these tips?
5 years later and it’s literally the most educational videooooo I love it. Today’s my first day in grad school and I’m so excited. Thank you so much for your tips!!
I am not one to comment on UA-cam videos, I just enjoy. But I'm in grad school as well in the mental health field, and these tips are universal. This is what helped me through my first semester, exactly what she described. Relying on my faith did make it easier to do the rest. Also life us generally a hard thing to go through add grad school in the mix and it gets increasingly more difficult, consider a therapist just as maintenance.
**is generally
Is it possible for you to give me tips on the graduate program in mental health. I'm going to be going into grad school this fall and I really would like to know what to expect. Thanks!
sexyhyppolite Sure thing! First off congratulations! I am in a mental health counseling program and the theme thus far has been self awareness. Due to the nature of the work of mental health, you will be constantly becoming aware of your thoughts, feelings and behavior. It is an emotional process, but a great one! Enjoy the process and don't be afraid to share your experiences and open up. For me, most of my professors are mental health counselors or psychologists which makes for great professors because they care more about you becoming a good therapist (that includes constantly encouraging you to engage in self-care) and not necessarily about your grades. Also because they are mental health professionals they are very supportive and understanding. Also depending on the school that you're about to go to, be prepared to learn about 'multiculturalism' in every class and social justice and advocacy as well. Best of luck! Jade's tips in this video will be extremely helpful as well.
What exactly is your career goal? and thank you!
sexyhyppolite The end goal for my career is to work with UNICEF (it's my dream job... lol) Education wise my end goal is a PhD in Clinical Psychology (emphasis in Child and Adolescent Psychology). What about you? What exactly are you going to be studying in Mental Health?
Great video! I definitely will be using some of these tips!
Woot woot. I just applied to a Higher Ed program in NYC. I work at a university too. Proud of you girl :)
I needed to hear this! Thanks girl! I'm starting my first semester of grad school and I am both anxious and excited! 💕
So glad I watched this video! Starting class in a few weeks and needed this to center everything - you're the bomb, girl!
YES! A PLANNER IS NECESSARY!!!!
Great points in this video..love the fact that these points can be applied to all other areas of life!!!
This is such a great video with amazing advice! My favorite piece of advice you gave is that you have a group of women in your cohort that you work with, lean on, and hold accountable! I would say that this tip is what makes or breaks your grad school experience. Yes, you can make it without friends in your program. But you will be miserable. The key to an enjoyable experience in grad school is surrounding yourself with other motivated grad students!
Hey sis! Love the video. I start my 1st semester next week. Thanks for the tips as well as your pep and energy!
omg this video has saved my life.....the process of getting into Graduate school is already stressful....your video has given me hope that I can do it as long as I have a solid productivity plan! I love that you mentioned going to Bible study, nobody ever mentions that when I ask about grad school. SUBSCRIBED!!!
You are so sweet and honest this is what I love to hear, thanks a lot.

Thank you so much for this video! I'm taking a year off as well and these were great tips to touch up on. I'm working full-time and I'll be doing my master's online (thankfully) so it helped to remember that communicating and networking with professors is still important.
I watched this video at the perfect time! Definitely more motivated to go finish these two chapters! Thank you for the video! :)
I really enjoyed this video even if I'm not getting a higher education degree. I'm starting an MBA program today so I'm pretty excited but nervous too. it's relaxing and nice to see others talk about it even if we aren't in the same field :-)

Currently in my final semester of grad school and I'm feeling the pressure. Thank you for posting this. At least I know I'm not the only one feeling stressed haha

Thank you! Mixing humor with detail made your video really fun and entertaining to watch. Kudos for mentioning going on coffee dates and attending conferences with professors. This sounds like a very good way to network with professionals in your desired
field :).

I'm glad you said planner because being in school and working too then taking care of family can be very busy. I'm a sophomore in college and journalism alone is more than enough

Girl u just spoke the truth...
After working in IT industry for 5 years im going back to school to study my Masters... and this time i told my self i will not make the same mistakes i did in my undergrad...
Your #8 is a must do... its very important to attend all those boring seminars and webnars .... i know it ...
Yall better keep this in mind coz it will definatly help yall 😊😊
Njy your Masters
Thank youuuu for these tips I'm a undergrad senior and will be starting grad school next year!
Your professors gave you extensions? We have a school policy that says "late papers will not be accepted." It's on every syllabus for every course & they remind you!
kimberly329 same! My instructors will not accept late work whatsoever unless the situation is catastrophic... and even then they are hesitant to do so lol
I'm looking at grad schools right now so this came at the perfect time. Can you do a study tips video?!?
I really dont know how some people can pull off a 4.0 average even working on their BA. Sometimes it just seems undoable when you take 5 classes a semester and happen to get 5 midterms the same week + papers due the week after the midterm + 50 pages of reading a class for the week.
I find that sometimes even not focusing on the right thing when taking notes in class might lower your grade significantly. Im a Philosophy and Economics double major and I'm really struggling to get even a 3.3.
I study in Canada however...
You talked a lot about networking . Can you do a ten tips video on networking ?
girlllllllllla thank u for making this video. was having doubts about grad school, now I'm going full force # mswbound
Thank you for this! So helpful even in 2017.
Great video and tips! I just decided to go back for my masters degree - along with studying for an insurance degree (associate in claims), working full time and planning a cross country move on a budget with two cats. It’s starting to sink in how important it will be to stay organized and practice self care.
I really want to get into Grad school. Thank you so much for this video!
