@@bleuebloom yea that is true for all products. I think there are 2 groups one group is really into this and likes learning and tinkering with Home Theater equipment. The 2nd group just wants to know what to buy, they don't really care about all the nuances, they just want to play music and movies easily. All of these systems are very similar, some do somethings better and others do other things. I have never heard the Sonos Arc with the rear speakers, but I Leo the idea that Sonos gear can be mixed and matched, that would be very helpful for me, but probably not for everyone.

About the Sound drop outs: I was fortunate to get the HT-A9 in its first month of release so I’ve had it now for quite awhile. Sound drop outs were an issue (every few days drop outs would start and get worse). I found that going into the advanced set up menu and toggling the RF channel from on/off/on would fix it. I’m glad to report that since the last software update, the sound drops outs have completely disappeared! I can’t remember the last time I’ve had to use my “fix”.

Great review. As Jim mentioned below, my Sony HT A9 hasn't suffered the same problems as you mentioned. Drop out disappeared after I separated various Bluetooth devices near the control box and followed some advice from other users. I've also not suffered from the lack of a central channel; voices sound perfectly natural to me coming from the front speakers. IMHO a great system.

Once sonos releases surrounds with upfiring it’ll be a game changer in the competition. I wouldn’t even see a reason to even buy a different brand - sonos has no issues and if they do they’re fixed in a week or two. Its the best overall company for longevity, stability, and consistency.
I also find it funny the arc (nearly 3yrs old) with the full system still competes with current bar systems especially samsung.
The system itself still sounds stellar.

You are a madman! A one hour video on soundbar reviews on youtube is a first for me, but higly appreciated since you can get all the information on the top competitors in just one vid. Congratulations and I hope your channel grows! I just wish there were reviewers such as you in Europe as well, since for us the price/availability is not the same as in the States. For example, I got a Q950A for 600$ when the Arc + Sub was close to 1500$. So it was a no brainer. But If the prices were closer to each other, I would have preferred the Arc. Q990B is still too expensive right now to consider an upgrade and I feel that only the Sub would be improved (and the damn display that's not on top anymore). Looking forward to the next big thing in home entertainment space!

I think what's kinda missing is price range in the comparison. Look at the launch price, average price and prices on good deals. Not just US, but also European prices since they do seem to vary wildly quite a bit. Price is the one thing that really puts things into perspective. I mean, with a $1900 Q990B and a $1000 Cinema 1200, a Cinema 1200 seems like it may be worth consider. But what if you live in Europe and can get a Q990B for less than the Cinema 1200, for example?
Of course prices do change constantly, but I think giving a range would put things in some good perspective. It may persuade someone to spend a tiny bit more for a top-end bar on a good deal than one that's pretty much entry level for the high-end if the person sees their prices aren't that far apart, when they would otherwise go for the latter because reviews say it's a lot cheaper than the competition... which isn't really true when taking deals into account.

I suspect Sony deliberately tuned the HT-A9 to match the speakers in their TV’s that have Acoustic Surface Audio (the screen is the speaker(s)). I have been a Sonos user for probably 8 years. It started at first with a playbar in the living room. Then we added a gen 1 sub, then a playbar for the bedroom, and gen2 play 1s for surrounds. The one thing I have really liked is we have been able to add over time and everything has been easy to add and set up. I recently added an Arc and Sub mini to the bedroom, replacing a playbar. I am very happy with it. I have been able to expand and improve the Sonos eco system as time and budget allows.
For a long time I was disappointed with the lack of DTS support, but in the last 3 years, I have realized that we typically only stream movie and shows to the Sonos systems and most don’t use DTS. Discs with DTS HD/X are watched where we have a HT speaker set up.
Finally, I think Trueplay is an issue for Android because of the variability in hardware across the platforms/ manufacturers. With iOS, Sonos can calibrate with known mics in iPhones. It does sometimes take a little while to work with some new iPhones as they are released so I suspect they have to update when the mic is changed with the new model. This has been an issue for quite a while, and you would think Sonos would find a way to address it…. Maybe find a way to support a few of the most popular Android devices? Anyways great comparison.

I LOVE this concept!!!!! It’s exactly what I was thinking about regarding wisa or some way of connecting all 5-7-9.X system without having to invest on all of the wires, a/v receiver, etc! Essentially a soundbar like setup, but able to just purchase and install wireless and amplified speakers as you can. Whether it be thru wireless adaptors or built in wireless speaker like how they do it with wireless subs.
For example, you could run the Klipsch powered tower speakers up front, some kind of powered or amplified center speaker tied in with tv speakers (q-symphony), powered rear and sides like the klipsch R-41/51pm or 5,7,9’s. Then of course up to 4 subs as can be afforded :) that leaves the atmos overhead, I think this would be the biggest benefit of all in that you won’t have to run any wires or anything except power of course. And I feel like the overhead speakers could be anything even if it needs the wireless adaptor.
As a renter, we can’t make major mods like cutting holes in the ceiling etc. I was trying to build a system like this with WISA or something like the Platin system. But from what I know, all truly wireless speaker surround sound systems max out at THX specs.
I believe I saw some new JBL powered surround speakers. Not sure. I’m trying to be as specific as possible, but I think this new Dolby wifi 2.4g/5ghz connection could actually work out well.
Ps. Since you have a dragon, how does the dragon compare to the other high end systems out there? Like the Platin systems (Monaco), the Enclave system, and that new JBL crazy expensive setup that uses the passive soundbar setup, (can’t find the article now) but klipsch, Elac, Martin also make similar passive soundbars. *would prob need to have a good receiver to make all that work. But I’m hoping that this Dolby atmos wireless tech would replace the need for a dedicated DSP.
    Any thoughts?? 🎉
Pps. Dunno if it’s just me, but your vids seem to have gotten wayyyy more detailed and “on point” since the move!!!! 😊

It just sounded like old school full range speakers to me, and I evaluate a system by whether I forget to critique it and just listen, which is exactly what happened. No dropouts so far but would love more impactful, tighter bass. The ARC sounds more refined with batter bass, but it does sound a little muffled to me. Still want to try the Samsung. Thanks for your review and hard work.

Great comparison. When the Klipsch was first announced full DTS support was promised. I was so triggered by Klipsch taking it away for their FLAGSHIP soundbar I won’t ever consider a Klipsch product. I have too many 1080p Blu-ray Discs with DTS so support is mandatory. The Arc was out too, even though it now sort of supports DTS, what’s the point? The TV likely won’t pass it. I ended up with the Sony. I do have an occasional dropout, maybe 2-3 in a weekend. I don’t know if it’s a wireless or an eARC issue. But I’m delighted with the sound. One of my best sounding discs is Master and Commander in good old DTS, it blows away any Atmos stream I’ve yet heard and is better than many Atmos 4K Blu-ray’s. I wish I could crank up the volume on the upfiring drivers though as overhead effects can be subtle, but that’s not a reflection on the system. The Atmos demo disc will show you what this Sony system is capable of, when sound engineers turn Atmos loose!!!

I have had an HT-A9 for just under two weeks. The problem I have with the system is by default it wants to use the 360 Mapping technology to upscale all content including 2.0 and 5.1 content. Coming from a 5.1 system, I noticed this immediately. Audio that is supposed to be coming from specifically the front left speaker is also at a lower level being heard from the front left height, the front right and right front height and even from the right rear surround. I assume this is to provide the immersive effect for 5.1 audio. Personally I do not like it. With that said, the system has a setting where you can turn off all the 360 Mapping. After doing so, 2.0 and 5.1 content plays from the speakers they were designed to play from while Atmos content is mapped to all 8 speakers (front left, front left height, front right, front right height, rear left, rear right height, rear right, rear right height). The problem is, the system has a software bug when running in that setting where Atmos content that should be mapped to the rear height speakers is simply discarded. They the audio isn't mapped to other speakers. It's just dropped. So, you miss content. Because of this, I have to switch in and out of 360 Mapping mode depending on whether I'm playing 2.0, 5.1 or Atmos content until the bug is fixed (if it ever is). Atmos content plays pretty well under the 360 Mapping as is the nature of Atmos. Its just annoying to have to keep switching sound effect mode.

During the sale last month I got a pair of One SL's again but kept in bedroom to use for music and returned the Arc and replaced with Samsung Q990B. Apple TV 4K and XBOX S.X connected to Q990B gets the best sound from streaming services or media and Samsungs 4K 60Hz HDMI input limitation doesn't matter since current TV also has that limitation. Future TV with eARC and 4K 120Hz will get best video signal connected directly to these two devices and output sound to Q990B and I'll be set for many years to come.

I'm thinking about buying a soundbar. It must be all in one, without a sub.
    - Philips Fidelio TAFB1 (Atmos, DTS:X, Imax)
    - BOSE Smart Ultra (Atmos only)
    - Sonos Arc (Atmos, without DTS:X)
    - Sony HT-A7000 (Atmos and DTS:X)
I had TAFB1 and I had a good opinion about it, but it broke down. Should I choose another model now? I would like the best Atmos/Surround effects (from VOD, I don't have Blue-Ray) and some good music. I also have an Xbox console.
According to Rtings, Sonos is probably the best (but it suits me the least - no BT, no DTS:X - I think it's important, additional purchase of a strip for mounting on the wall), then Bose and then Sony, but they haven't tested Fidelio. But maybe your opinion is different 😊

But to be honest if their system is going to ask for a USB stick in the year of our lord 2023 AND require only 8gb of capacity to work then they should have a software utility as a part of their firmware update file that automatically creates this partition when you run it so that it doesn't matter what size USB you use. Best movie sound: Q990B
    Best for music: Q990B
    Worst movie sound: Sonos Arc
3rd out of 4th place for music: Sonos Arc
Very obvious winner overal: Sonos Arc
The Sonos Arc does seem to be the most convenient one, but I can't say I'd call any system the best if it's not the best in what matters the most... which is enhancing the sound experience. Besides that, the Q990B seems to have the best prices by far. The Klipsch Cinema 1200 is the cheapest by far, but it's also the worst by far. Meanwhile Samsung's Q990B is easily gotten for about €1000 or less in Europe (I got mine for for less than €900). Even in the US Samsung's Q990B prices seem to go far lower on deals than the Sonos Arc and Sony HTA9. So in terms of price/performance... I'd also give it to the Q990B.

    • @thenonexistinghero
      @thenonexistinghero Рік тому +1

@@jjaisudhan I think it's pretty good overal, but... it's a bit on the complex side. The bass seems to vary rather wildly depending on the mode you use and the type of content you're playing.
      > Using 'surround' mode and 'adaptive' mode for movies and games seems to result in a bit of a low bass. I'd recommend putting it at least to +2 or +3 for a 'pleasant' kind of bass, but if you really want some more oomph you can go up to +5 or +6 (which is max). I still wouldn't call it mindblowingly deep in that mode though, but...
      > Using 'standard' mode for movies and games seems add A LOT more bass. In fact, if I use standard mode I often do it to -2 or so because even 0 is often too much for movies in this mode (IMO). I think people who really want bass might be satisfied with +1 or +2. Can't say I've tried +6 in this mode for movies, but I imagine it's just too much for most.
      > Using 'surround' or 'adaptive' mode for music, there is a decent amount of bass. Not just spotify or youtube music, also music used in movies. Basically any type of music. Haven't really used standard much for musical content since it defaults to stereo... and I'm actually very fond of how it handles music in adaptive.
I think ultimately it depends on what you want. There's some ways to get a huge amount of bass out of this, but it seems to be restricted to the standard mode for some reason. I have no idea why the amount of bass is different per mode. I think it should be equal in every mode and +6 in 1 mode should be the same as +6 in another. But now we have dumb stuff like 0 in standard mode with 5.1 movies having as much bass as +4 or +5 in adaptive/surround mode, that's just... stupid.
That issue aside, I dunno if the JBL is better for music. I've haven't tried it out myself and anything in terms of reviews and impressions seem to indicate that they're more or less equally good in terms of sound. The JBL 9.1 has more bass, but the Q990B seems to have a cleaner sounding bass. I think the Q990B offers a pretty hefty amount of bass and the maximum is too much for me for bass-heavy music tracks. But for someone who really wants DAT BASS, mayber the JBL 9.1 is the only way to go. I can't even max it out on my own Q990B without bothering the neighbours, so it's not for me.
