There's just something deeply satisfying about building a PC. Especially if you use shiny new high-end parts lol Edit: My grandfather was in his 80s when he passed away less than a decade ago and he had an AMD Athlon X2 4000+ CPU in his PC (that I built for him). He was quite the tech enthusiast.

I've build every computer I've owned since my 80286 and I can't say I really like it. Since I only do my own, its so infrequent that every single time there's a new kind of plug, socket or adaptor. By the time I've got a new motherboard, CPU and current-gen memory, the remaining bits are so cheap now that it's barely worth re-using so I end up getting all new stuff anyway.
LTT didn't convince me to go back to AMD but I have built 2x R5 3600X rigs for friends and I was sold immediately by the performance and now I have a 3700X rig of my own. Worth every penny.
yup, amd is just a no brainer for cpus unless u want absolute top fps, where intel still wins (not worth but it DOES win), sadly the gpu side is way worse, no high end competition, at all, and the 5700 xt is honestly a buggy mess with dx9 wich, most ppl STILL play, new gpu doesnt mean exclusively play new games dear amd, nvidia blows u apart with bugless and better dx9.... i recomended the 5700 xt and 3 friends had it 3 had, issues, be low fps in games like, lol (130ish.. ik its not bad but... a gtx 950 pulls 200....) and the fun, random blacscreens, then u fire up red dead redemption 2 and, wonderful flawless experience.
I want to see Linus build a system blindfolded almost as badly as I want to see a newb struggle with it --- like I did two weeks ago. Not a fair competition by any means; but it'd so fun to watch!
Yes please.I'd like to get this for my niece before sh'es too old. I got my other 2 nieces into gaming already i just need to get this one into it for the hat trick.
Thing is, people who start companies typically love the thing that they started the company for. But then some stupid "social hierarchy" thing gets in the way, forcing them to sit behind a desk as "CEO" and get separated from their original passion, because society has this arse-backwards idea that the folks with the talent, who actually do the hard work, are "the inferiors" to the people who just talk and write a few emails behind a desk - pointlessly telling those who know the job better than they do, how do their jobs - who then get paid a thousand-fold or more for doing a thousand-fold or more less than anyone else, and playing golf in the afternoon. I like these UA-camrs who hire people to do the admin side for them, exactly so they can keep being the face in front of the camera. Not just Linus, but Lewis of the Yogscast also did the same (though his choice for CEO was poorly made and the guy was forced to resign for dubious "sexy messages" to female fans - but the idea itself was good, just a bad choice of hire).
KlaxonCow my father is an exception he knows his work very well because he works aktivly since he is 15 and he is now 50 and for orher people i agree with you
Seriously never realized how nice it was to have 4... Freaking 4 full sized USB ports on my old MSI laptop. Now, you have to sacrifice your first born to the PC gods to get 3 full sized and then a USB C port (which a lot of the time is completely useless for people with a lot of plug-in tools anyways). So here I am looking like a silly boy with 2 USB C - to - 4 and 7 USB A Powered ports dongles lmao. And God forbide if they don't put in a Ethernet port and you have to plan ahead for that too 🤭. But at least now on my Zephyrus G14, the processor and GPU are miles ahead of old hardware, so I can def live with it. 🥺
@@thatsreallyamoon That's why you should have Thunderbolt 3. Preferably all around your device with only acceptable other port being standard 3.5 mm jack... and even that's questionable because using analog headphones without proper DAC sucks anyway.
It's 12:58 in the morning. As I'm getting ready to go to bed and settle down, then I see a new video from Linus and nearly 4 hours later I will be going to bed.
Just yesterday my 6 year old i5-3230M with 4 GiB RAM and a GT 720M just gave up on windows. I had a dual boot with Linux mint but its primary partition was too small. Wiped everything, installed Mint again and that's it.
I watch youtube videos while I fall asleep. It autoplays random videos one after another. Every morning I wake up and this video is playing. I can't escape it.
I love these Linus builds a computer videos, good to see the nerd boss not afraid to get his hands dirty and stay true to to the spirit of his early UA-cam days!!!
I know it's been 3 years already. But i found this vid entertaining. Kudos to Linus talking for 4 hours straight and to Andy andying the camera for the same amount of hours.
"yelling at it works" I've been telling my wife this since we moved in together. Inanimate objects respond to aggression for some reason. Losing your shit is part of the process.
There is also some catharsis when you do it. Bad day at work, just scream at the inanimate object for failing to live up to your unreal expectations, suddenly feel a little better.
I tend to sleep watching UA-cam and for some reason this video keeps autoplaying every single night. I've technically watched this thing start to end atleast 100 times. You're welcome LS
The Main thing I saw with PSUs in computer cases has been that they shrank the size of them. In my old AT style case the PSU was 250 watts and was about the same size as 3 modern PSUs stacked on top of eachother. That was in a full tower case. The big change I saw with PSUs was when they went to Modular design. This really made cable management possible. Now you didn't have this rats nest of cables going everywhere on the components. There is something else that has changed between 2014 and 2022 and that is the extra 4 pin connector on the motherboard. I had an Asus Z97-AR motherboard and it had the ATX 24 pin connector as well as the 8 pin connector for the Motherboard power. My Asus Z690 Prime -P Motherboard has another 4 pin connector on it as well.

Something with integrated graphics and plenty of cores/ram, but not too expensive.
Wdym? What does she need it for? What's the budget? Just saying for mom doesn't cut it.
Gave my mom a hand me down 760 with an athelon ii and an ssd and hdd and she has been using it for 2 years now happily for normal mom stuff and some light schooling

There's just something deeply satisfying about building a PC. Especially if you use shiny new high-end parts lol

this one and the „Im praying this computer sucks cause Im selling it for $1“.
If there are any pc parts (or whole pc’s) you don’t want anymore, tell me and I’ll take them off your hands.
If even Linus is going AMD, I know it’s time to switch.
LTT didn't convince me to go back to AMD but I have built 2x R5 3600X rigs for friends and I was sold immediately by the performance and now I have a 3700X rig of my own. Worth every penny.
I was meaning to switch to AMD for _years_ now back when Zen 1.0 happened...finally did so in February!
Zen 3 (Ryzen 4000 desktop) is going to be released on Q4, just saying.
yup, amd is just a no brainer for cpus unless u want absolute top fps, where intel still wins (not worth but it DOES win), sadly the gpu side is way worse, no high end competition, at all, and the 5700 xt is honestly a buggy mess with dx9 wich, most ppl STILL play, new gpu doesnt mean exclusively play new games dear amd, nvidia blows u apart with bugless and better dx9.... i recomended the 5700 xt and 3 friends had it 3 had, issues, be low fps in games like, lol (130ish.. ik its not bad but... a gtx 950 pulls 200....) and the fun, random blacscreens, then u fire up red dead redemption 2 and, wonderful flawless experience.

Seriously never realized how nice it was to have 4... Freaking 4 full sized USB ports on my old MSI laptop.
