I think you're spot-on on the assessment of the 990C. I have the B and got it at the end of the model run for $1000 Canadian. Great value. Good enough sound for my modest home theater. No-fuss setup. I haven't had any problems with the rears disconnecting though. I agree with you... bass is enough. A very happy camper indeed. 😊
Props for doing an updated review on the A9. Many reviewers need to do it as well, because a lot of the issues that plagued the system at launch have been corrected (mostly) with firmware updates.👍
I have a Nakamichi Dragon and I have to say that it’s a beast of a system. I have a dedicated home theater room and it’s scary how close the Nakamichi Dragon gets to my main system.
How much was your main system is the bigger question. The Dragon getting close to a $7000+ system is more of an accomplishment than getting close to a, say, $5000 system.
@@sobeautifulsrilanka I had the original Nakamichi Shockwafe and for $2500 I got a Marantz SR 5015, 7 Jamo concert series speakers and 2 Jamo subs. It completely changed my audio listening experience. I loved the Nakamichi, but side by side the Nakamichi is loud, but it's not nuanced. I constantly had to adjust the volume up and down during dialogue/action scenes because the voices would get muffled over the action. What I love about a dedicated system is that the voices are crystal clear and the system at the same volume can get as loud as a jet engine, but then so quiet you can hear rats running across a floor (can't remember the movie), but it's impressive when a can gets kicked across the room and you can listen to it travel like 20 feet away. Or when birds are flying around you and be able to pinpoint the position with hyper accuracy. Maybe the dragon is so much better than the original Nakamichi Shockwafe, but after hearing Andrew Robinson review the dragon it seems exactly the same as my experience with the Shockwafe after experiencing a proper setup. Loud too fast, harsh, the spatial audio was okay and noticeable, but not hyper detailed. Anyway long post, but just my 2 cents
Excellent comparative. But for more or less than 1000€, the Q 990c is my choice. I personally think that over a 2000 budget, you can already buy a “true” home cinema system with a good receiver and quality speakers. As a solution before I can buy the system of my dream, samsung has done an awsome job.
Had the 990c 5 months very happy with it paid £950.00 off Amazon UK Was tempted by the Sonos but the Era 300 too big (for domestic bliss) and your head to head with the Sonos showed the 990c wasn't a poor relation to the Sonos and was half the price which will pay for a lot of atmos streaming services ... Oh and no drop outs to the rear to report so I'm a happy with my purchase
It’s a compelling system glad you like it! - I hope they offer something exciting for next year as the C year improvements were so minor - refreshed bar and surrounds at least
I have a q990c and it works perfect. I have had no rear disconnect issue. This sound bar truly sounds amazing for the price. And the bass is plentiful! Also, I have samsung TV and the bar paired with the Q-symphony works well. It complements the sounds. It is not needed but sure does add to the dome effect.
You know I wish you could review the (Devialet Dione) made by Devialet. Its $1999 USD. I wonder how well it would compare to these sound bars. I wonder if it could beat any sound system you have. Please consider it a review!! it would be AWESOME!
Great job I’m waiting for the dragon but if I had a choice I would’ve got the Sony. Unfortunately Sony doesn’t offer sub out maybe in the future when they do I would go with Sony.😎👍
@@HPMIKE55 you buy the sub separately as part of the H9 range. You have a choice of two subs but every review I've seen say the larger sub is the only one to consider however, looking at the rear control box, I don't know how its connected.
Andrew Robinson sold me the HT-A9 2 years ago with the SW5 sub. Super happy. Already had a A80J with the whole screen being a speaker for the center channel. Super happy, it's a smallish room in the basement if it fills the room perfectly. The soundstage, the 360 feature is superb. Not the most precise audio setup, but for the price I'm really happy. I wanted a system the would fill all the space around me (up down, front rear, left right). My kids are looking behind sometimes as the feel being within the action. Star wars / space stuff is awesome on this.
This production has an amazing quality given the low subs count. I am thankful I got somehow introduced to this even if I am not shopping for any of those right now. Thank you for all the effort.
Have the Q990A in my family room running off a Samsung QN90A. Dragon in the master bedroom. Before we got our Dragon, we had the HT-A9 with our A90J as the center and it was incredible. I agree. Nakamichi 8-in subs should never have been made. They should have been 12s from the very beginning, so I'm really glad they stepped up their game and realized the problem. Not happy that the subwoofer upgrade cost more than the entire Q990 system, but once you Dragon, you can't UnDragon. Great video, thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing. Thanks so much.
Bought the Dragon to replace the Sony A9. The Dragon totally crushed it. I thought the 2 systems would be closer in performance than they were, but nope. The Dragon is the best system I’ve ever heard. But it is pricy!
@@neverenoughtechit's not even fair to compare it it's totally different Target audience compared to the big Sony soundbar wireless rear surrounds and sub is what competes with the dragon
990C super great, no issues, after 2 months i put the sub under my couch= ASTONISHING, can't go back. couch is against the wall, i just put the rear speakers to the side and it is perfect. atmos is not detailed but overall it is super great.
The subwoofer under your couch? That is actually a cool idea but, how the heck did you manage to get the sub down there? Is the couch mounted on top of something?
@@revotuberacermy issue was not enough presence in the mid bass or the lower mid. I don't no the exact term. The "woof" sounds that are not rumbling. I pushed the sub to +4 and I lower all the front channels(except the Atmos ones) to -3 in the smarthings app, so I could push the global volume to 18 and have the presence of the "woof" without the front stage shouting at me. It was really good but I wanted to feel more detailed in the low frequency. The sub is 8inch and cannot do miracles so I decided to try the sub crouch method. While crouching to listen to the best spot for my sub that is how i just realized there is enough space under my couch. So I gave it a try. Shut down the bar, Put the sub under and plugged it. Magnificent result. I can feel the slightest low vibration to the big rumble that shakes the couch and the wall. The "thumbs" are running through my body. I am sure by audiophiles standards I must be making some heresy since the sub is not designed for that and I might missing some other effect that I don't know about. (There are sub designed for that spot). But it is just night and day. True IMAX theater experience.
I don't have the other 3, but I got the Q990C with less than $900 (in Vietnam), and the bass for my small room is scary, I only use it at +3, and the whole system at +10 level only. It's enough for my need. Really hope that I can have more money to experience the best Sonos and Sony systems in the future. For the Nakamichi Dragon, it's too much for what I will ever need :D
I purchased a used Samsung 930B (200$) and also purchased a used Klipsch 350W subwoofer( 30$) Modified the original Samsung subwoofer so I can connect the extra Klipsch subwoofer with the High Channel Imput and this thing is a monster Now. Insane performance for the price.
I agree with the comment you showed about HT A9 having X factor .. It is the most unassuming surround speaker setup .. I don't have a dedicated media room and my A9 seamlessly blends in my living room .. I thoroughly enjoy it and won't trade it for anything
Happy Q990C user here, added one of those sub-100$ class D amps for stereo music though. Thank you for another great video. Enjoying your sense of humour and looks ❤
Can you elaborate on your adding an amp move … I assume you are directing your music source through an amp before it reaches the Q990C? Am I getting that right? Thanks!
Outstanding comparisons! instructive and very entertaining Completely agreed when it comes to the Sonos. I have the two subs and Era's 300 rear with the arc being the weakest link! Until an updated newer version comes out, the dragon will be the better option. Since I am already invested, it makes sense to wait a little for the hopefully new ARC. Great content.
Technically Sonos could add 2 Era 300 for the front left and right surround with software updates, the problem is how many people will buy it? As the cost will go over 4200 Dollars?? Probably only few people not so many to justify an extra software investment. But I do like the idea of 2Era 300 front and I will probably buy the extra 2 more pairs next year and get with little settings volume down for Era as I like exploring the edge top surround sound
@@giancarlogargiulo5875 maybe Sonos will activate the front drivers in the era300’s if they allow them to be used as fronts. It always bothers me that all the drivers in the era 300’s are not used when set up as surrounds
@@chrisklimek5912 I believe is all questions of earnings and percentage of people can afford that cost, seems like for the bussines is not worth it otherwise they will make it by only software updates
I just replaced a Q990B with a Nakamichi Dragon. The Samsung is a solid choice at a reasonable price but, if you can afford an unreasonable price, the Dragon is a beast that plays on a whole different level. The highs are exceptional and you can feel the low frequencies in your bones. I haven't heard the Sonos Arc but I have a set of Era 300s in my bedroom for music and I love them.
Wow, ANOTHER great video!!!! No doubt this guy keeps giving other reviewer a hard time to keep up. I got the Q990C with the 77” S90C TV a month ago and I’m very happy. No drop-outs on the rears so far. I’ve only done streaming so, audio has been good. I hope audio gets to a whole different level when I play my physical media. Still need to calibrate the TV and find the best settings for the Q990C. Any suggestions on settings? Also, I’ve seen people saying that Q Symphony takes away from the soundbar? How so? Merry Christmas, everyone!
With the C I tend to leverage SFSP and keep sound on adaptive - and adjust levels to taste based on content … with Q my gripe is throwing in inferior speakers … I think it flocks the sound a bit though I will concede it can boost the sounds spatial impact
@@neverenoughtech right now I have it on Adaptive Sound and SpaceFit Sound. All channels at 6, except sub which is at 5. I’ve been thinking about lowering the Front Surrounds to 5 since they are so close to me. I’m sorry, I don’t get what you mean by SFSP (I’m still a rookie at this). Still haven’t played much with Active Voice Amplifier and Voice Enhancement. Not sure about Bass Enhancement either.
@@revotuberacerI’ll advise that you do not turn on the voice enhancement. It cheapens the whole experience just to make voices sound louder. You can turn on active voice amplifier, that’s a better setting. Bass enhancement is also good if you want more bass, mine is turned on
Thank you for posting this helpful video. I really enjoy your videos. I went the Sonos route primarily because of your videos. I am very happy with my decision. I went with the dual subwoofer configuration, a Sonos arc, and two error 300s.
Welp. I think my Sonos Arc + Sub has to go back, and you have convinced me Daniel. The Q990C can be had for $827.99 (with tax) right now with discounts in US. I feel like that's just unbeatable. I can't imagine the Sonos Ultimate bundle being $1400 better.
I got the arc and a Pairs of 100 of 2nd market. 1 sub from best buy other from sonos and I can't return its to late. But knew I should have not rushed researched more and went with 990c only reason didn't get 990c it was out of stock on samsung wich would have gotten it for about 700 paired with my oled s90. Didn't wanna wait plus heard the sonos in vest buy they didn't have the 990c now I'm upset
@@prtbone78 it’s been really tough for me. I gave my dad the Q990C. The Sonos price is steep, but I’ve found the sound to be better imo after testing them both a lot,
I hope Sonos understands how much of an improvement the new ARC needs to be. At the projected price it needs to be good and it needs to get people like me who own an Arc to feel that this new ARC is a worthy upgrade. Unfortunately, there are lots of ways they could screw this up.
I have owned Samsung q990c (not anymore), Sony ht a9 + sw5 and Sennheiser Ambeo max + Dali c8 d. Samsung q990c: best bang for the buck ration since you can find it for as low as $900. The feel is not very premium, the sub is somewhat light and will distort at higher leves. Rear speakers are not loud enough to deliver any significant 3D effect. The good point is that is gets really loud, it just sounds a bit compressed in comparison to some more expensive options out there. One strange thing, the system never took me through room calibration steps... It is a good system if you are on a budget, it will not dissapoint. Sony ht a9: very premium build, sw5 feels heavy and reassuring. It should, considering the price. Bass performance is awesome imho. The level of 3D reprojection and soundstage is very good. It is really orientated towards theatrical experience, there is no real sound eq you can play with, it is voiced for movies and 3D bubble in which you are immersed instantly. It is so much fun. If you approach it fro audiophile perspective, however, you might be dissapointed as it sounds just a bit harsh, not as full. This does not mean that it is bad for music, not at all, there are just better options out there. I have never missed a centre, phantom center is awesome. If you have a suitable Sony TV, you can connect the black box to ''s centre'' to use TV speakers for that. And no, even though this is a standard 3.5mm jack, you can not connect any other speaker to it to serve as a centre, no sound will cone through. Believe me, I have tryed. One more thing about ht a9 - SW5 is the only sub to get and it should not be optional. There is a night and day difference w/wo a sub. Internal mini subs can not give you a cinematic rumble which is much needed for a good theatrical experience. Sennheiser Ambeo max: This one is like a refined piece of tehc, that always puts a smile on my face. There is nothing cheap on this machine. It is a work of art. It is heavy, sturdy and reassuring. The Sennheiser's sound optimization and room calibration is really on another level. You calibrate the bar with a special calibration tool that cones in the box and it is no joke. They seem to take this part very seriously. The 3D reprojection is very good due to exellent Sennheiser's software magic. But only up to 180 degrees. Do not expect 360 degree sound like with Sony ht a9 as there are no (not even optional) rear speakers. No amount of reflections can adequately substitute for a physical rear sound source. This soundbar is much more audiophile orientated, there are 2 apps by which you can control the sound profile. The audio quality is excepional for music. I would say the system is on par or better that what I get with any of my higher end bookshelf speakers. There is a wired connection for a subwoofer which means you can hook up ANY active sub to it. In this way you can pair it with any good $500+ sub you might already have at home to even outperform the Dragon in sub section. Again, as with Sony, subwoofer is a must. Internal mini subs will not cut is...not even close.
Thanks for your insightful comparison! One question about the q990c rear speakers: you said that they aren't loud enough to produce surround effects, can't that be addressed by increasing their individual volumes (relative to the front channels) via the SmartThings app?
We recently moved into a larger loft, but surprisingly, wanted to downsize our home theater system. The Arc on its own is definitely limited, but we have been quite happy with two subs and the era 100’s. The 100’s just disappear behind our sectional, which wouldn’t have happened with the 300’s.
I don’t even like sound bars nor home theater but I’m hear watching due to the dragon. As a 2 channel purist and headfier the dragon is just calling my name. Thanks for the thorough comp.
A bulked Sonos bar and more flexibility in Eras would be the biggest news I think. I’m gonna be very disappointed if Samsung doesn’t make a significant change -- this last year was really minimal- surprised anyone even watched any C videos
I can still remember wanting a Nakamichi 1000 cassette deck! I went Sonos Arc, Era300s, Sub over the last week .. fully expecting a new Arc++ later this year. If I wanted a one off/stay as is solution for TV only surround the Dragon could have been it. I'm putting my investment into an expectation that Sonos is going to do something very impressive moving forward. It would really only take a software upgrade to offer a 4x Era 300, 2x Sub, 1x Arc configuration ... rebalancing the Arc more towards conversation delivery. I still need to install the new gear and do something with my old Sonos surround system. Speaking of hacks - if I listen to music video, concerts, etc I play them through my OPPO and also push the audio via Toslink to a pair of Devialet Phantom Golds. Everything stays in sync nicely and the surround system just becomes fill. It'll be interesting to see what the new Sonos setup can do with Atmos without any Phantom support.
I recently pulled the trigger on the Sonos (helped by your excellent videos) but concluded the same - the ERA 300’s dominate, also layout and room size are key to real world performance. Atmos effects only appeared (marginally) at high volumes which meant the space got overwhelmed and is unsustainable with neighbours + smaller UK spaces). Yes, I could turn it down and it still sounds excellent. I love bass but had to turn it down to -4. In my awkward space, a great soundbar experience is good result in its own right, any Atmos effects are a bonus. With that in mind at £899 the Q990C is nearly a third of the price and should be plenty for your average consumer.
Your soundbar videos have been excellent - led me to the HTA9. Came from a 11.2 setup. Wanted a ht in a box without a central sound bar. Very happy with it for movies / tv. I use a dedicated 2channel rig for music. It doesn’t go that deep, but i was surprised it could play the bass drop at start of edge of tomorrow. Doesn’t rattle the house like my dual Svs did but … Not having 11 channels of speaker wire running around the open concept living room, makes wife happy. I can’t get over how good the surround / Atmos sounds for four small speakers. Thanks!
I am owning a Q990B and wants to change. and Dragon is very much on the list. one thought is room calibration can be a headache. my main system is separates. But I will try the Dragon. with the double price to upgrade to a Q990C. Thank you a very good review.
What is usually forgotten in tests is which one sounds the best in asymmetrical room and open spaces.. Since in perfect space the best performers can become the worst performers in asymmetrical rooms..
I totally dig your reviews, but I really would recommend using music more as content to test systems. Movies have music, so it makes sense. Plus, you can isolate the faults of each soundbar with music. When you have an action scene, it's way too layered to make out shortcomings
I have the full RP system running through a Denon and just switched to the Q990D to downsize. Agree with your statement, but for movie watching the Samsung does a damn good job competing for the space/price
Thanks Daniel:) I think this is one of the best reviews I’ve seen for 2023 and I’ve seen them all… Great job bro! And I really think that Sony has the advantage here for the future. I believe Sony is going to come out with a game changer with their spatial mapping tech! This tech can very well put soundbars out of business! Think about it! 🤔 💭
After watching all of this videos on yutube about sound systems Im more than happy I went for the new bose ultra soundbar whit the AI system more than excellent for movies and music for me is just the best deal for the money and simple to use.
I've had the Samsung Q950a and the the Sonos Arc / 2 subs / one SL's and was unhappy with both..go figure...so now i will try the Bose flagships....if that does not work then maybe the JBL or the Nakamichi Dragon.....wish me luck...lol...MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL...cheers from Vulcan Canada

I bought the Nakamichi shockwafe SSE Earc in May to upgrade my Nakamichi shockwafe SSE ARC in my master bedroom. I felt once I got it, it was so good i don't think I would of ordered the Dragon if I knew it was so good. However after getting the dragon in my basement to replace my other Nakamichi shockwafe SSE ARC 1000 watts. It was on another level to the Nakamichi shockwafe SSE Earc 1300!watts.
The 2049 opening scene for height effects was a good suggestion .. I want to share one as well which you can use in addition to it .. NOPE movie from 1hr:16min to 1hr:24min .. Those 8 mins are all about height effects
I can only speculate … I’m quite confident the latter sounds better -- (assume you’re at least going surround sound with it) -- if you’re just going stereo I’d say you are leaving to much on the table with the C … if you’re going all out with the AVR - there are trade offs gotta think what am I gonna really want to probably listen too over and over again
I would point out in the Sony A9 product image @10:26 they hide the biggest Con and that's the requirement for a separate power socket for each of the five speakers (including the necessary sub) plus another socket for the control box, a total of 6 power points. In the photo, the power cable for the closest rear speaker is tucked over then under the top of the side table but never goes any further, the speaker in the photo, isn't truly plugged in.
0:44 This is why I enjoy watching you. It seems once someone hits 100k, they change, and I stop watching. I pay for UA-cam Premium, and the sponsor spots get really old real quick.
I got the Q930c. It’s a less powerful version of the 990c but also about $400 cheaper. It sounds amazing to me and I have no rear channel dropouts. I can only imagine the 990c
Great Video as always! I bought the Sonos Arc and two era 300s last month before the leak announcement. It’s a really great system (I already had a Sub gen 3) but I completely understand your sentiment in regards to the overpowering Era 300s. It’s okay while watching movies but listening to music is a little tricky because I have to turn the eras down for a couple of tracks to hear the front stage. I’m still really happy with it but I will buy the next soundbar and move the arc into the bedroom 🫡

Great video! Thorough as always! Question about the HT-A9. In the Sony Audio Settings>Sound Effect, did you select 1) Sound Mode On, 2) Dolby Speaker Virtualizer, or 3) DTS Neural:X? Would appreciate it, thank you.
@@neverenoughtech Thank you. I just swapped my HT-A7000 + SA-RS5 setup for the HT-A9 (both using the SA-SW5) so I wanted to make sure I set things up correctly. Dialogue took a minor hit, but everything else was amplified. I immediately noticed the difference when watching Infinity War during the intro scene where Thanos places the Space Stone on the Infinity Gauntlet. The shockwave that follows sounded great with the HT-A9. Significantly less so with the HT-A7000 setup that I’ve used to watch that film with over a dozen times.
The Dragon is the first sound bar I actually researched to replace my traditional HT. Sadly the moment I read it only came with a 1 year warranty made it a no go from the get go. It's one fo the main reasons why I shy away from sound bars in general because of their proprietary nature. Seems I was proven right based on your experiences with the build quality. The other offerings don't offer much better in terms of warranty coverage vs the price so I guess I'm sticking with what I have for the forseeable future . Excellent content as usual.
Good review, i think its important to touch upon low to medium level sound viewing which is vital for 90% of us! I came from a dedicated seperate setup and purchased the HTA9. I wanted to love this but i was disappointed and returned. It sounded great at high volume but very poor at low to medium volumes. Also it really needed a dedicated centre even if you have a SOny compatible tv.
Hi! i think its just personal opinion and maybe due to having a dedicted setup beforehand. I despereatly needed more space so sold it all and went for the Sony and really wanted to love it as even purchased the 4 stands. I Never felt comfortable with my A9J as centre as I didnt feet it had the grunt to match main speakers. I could of lived with it mind, but my main gripe was the sound at low to medium volume levels which would be 70% of the time. My last system still sounded amazing at these volumes. @@SynjynB
Having bought the 990c i agree in that the lack of 3D sound disappoints compared to the 5.1 surround system that I use to have. Generally it's fine for most situations, but the emphasis on booming to give a film the sense of action is off-putting.
The "990C" is now $899 now on Amazon! Just grabbed one to replace my Sony ST-5000 (2020) that I’ve never been impressed by. If you don’t mind all the complexity of an av receiver and the wires and space taking of all the components - go for it. SBs are around to make your life a bit simpler … the Cs sound would probably surprise you if you haven’t listened to SBs in a while
Watching from the sidelines since I already own an AVR + surround sound setup. Love the aesthetics and wireless convenience of a soundbar setup, hate the slow pace towards a wireless AVR-less mix-and-match 7.x.x configuration.
I have the 990b. Can’t sell it fast enough. I’ll never buy another “ flagship” for one year soundbar from Samsung. I am now deciding between the dragon or a dedicated system I thought I’d never do again. I have a quote coming for a dedicated system so we will see .

I've had the HT A9 for 6 months now and I love it. I had some dropping initially, but now I exclusively use my PS5 as my streaming device and haven't had a single drop since (I'm wondering if it's due to my PS5's Ethernet connection?). I find when I stream through my TV small, rare drops happen.
I imagine Bose ultra with the useful dialog mode would be a contender if they'd get some decent surrounds. I predict we'll see something offered in 2024.
My take-away would be if you have the jack to let go, and the right space for a larger system, The Dragon is by far overall the currently available most impressive, albeit quite big, HTB system. Yet it can be improved. The absence of a room automated EQ would be an expected feature which may in itself make any other changes nearly moot. It could address the issue of the rears not delivering as much lower frequencies, which should put it least equal to the effect that, more or less, made the Sonos speakers shine in that regard (hopefully the soundstage can simply be widened, if desired, with more physical separation of the front L & R speakers while not hampering the height effects negatively). With the large amount of electronics in The Dragon, an automated EQ system seems almost de rigueur - thus a curious oversight in order to optimally leverage the power of the amount of processing and individual amplification present. It makes a case for the question is Nakamichi considering either adding it (if possible) to the current version of The Dragon or incorporating it in a future version? For me, that's the (sixty) four-thousand question.

How much was your main system is the bigger question. The Dragon getting close to a $7000+ system is more of an accomplishment than getting close to a, say, $5000 system.
How would you compare it to sonos soundbar? If you have one
@@sobeautifulsrilankagood question
Had the 990c 5 months very happy with it paid £950.00 off Amazon UK
Was tempted by the Sonos but the Era 300 too big (for domestic bliss) and your head to head with the Sonos showed the 990c wasn't a poor relation to the Sonos and was half the price which will pay for a lot of atmos streaming services ...
Fair assessment - my Q gripe is it introduces lower quality speakers though it does augment the spatial nature of the sound
@@neverenoughtech your certainly right. It does.
Early April Fools (00:34) Sonos Bundle Price is $2256 (not $1400) wishful thinking I guess.
3rd from top open you sexy beast.
@@HPMIKE55 you buy the sub separately as part of the H9 range. You have a choice of two subs but every review I've seen say the larger sub is the only one to consider however, looking at the rear control box, I don't know how its connected.
@@MaZEEZaM ok thank you
Andrew Robinson sold me the HT-A9 2 years ago with the SW5 sub.
Yeah not perfect but definitely special and can put on a good show
This production has an amazing quality given the low subs count. I am thankful I got somehow introduced to this even if I am not shopping for any of those right now. Thank you for all the effort.
Glad you enjoy it!
But obviously you can afford it 😉
I’m still charmed by the A9 but it is certainly a lightweight sound in this comparison
Except for imaging
@@neverenoughtechit's not even fair to compare it it's totally different Target audience compared to the big Sony soundbar wireless rear surrounds and sub is what competes with the dragon

I do get pretty loose with the hugs - especially after a few too many G&Ts
@@revotuberacergood question bruv, my couch has a 5 inches leg and the sub won’t fit lol
Truly only matters if you like it however, when you do that you really muffle the tone of the sub and you lose a ton of definition.
i yeah i knew it beforehand and i was planning to put it back next to the main unit but i can't just get enough of the cuch rumbling@@TheLeadG
I purchased a used Samsung 930B (200$) and also purchased a used Klipsch 350W subwoofer( 30$)
Modified the original Samsung subwoofer so I can connect the extra Klipsch subwoofer with the High Channel Imput and this thing is a monster Now.
Insane performance for the price.
I agree with the comment you showed about HT A9 having X factor .. It is the most unassuming surround speaker setup .. I don't have a dedicated media room and my A9 seamlessly blends in my living room .. I thoroughly enjoy it and won't trade it for anything
I feel very sane with purchase. Not disappointed with my Q990C.

Can you elaborate on your adding an amp move … I assume you are directing your music source through an amp before it reaches the Q990C? Am I getting that right? Thanks!
You did what? How?
What is the point of adding a desktop amp to the q990c when it is already powered? Makes absolutely zero sense and I call BS.

I’m really hoping Sonos is feeling more era300 than 100 with this new hypothetical bar … not knocking the 100s - they’re delightful
It is a tier above the 990x for sure - if that is a lingering question
Well put my friend. The Dragon is king.

I hope they infuse era 300 energy … it’s reasonable to suspect that
I absolutely can't stand the fact that trueplay does not support Android devices
Will be interesting to see how Samsung and Sonos up their game in 2024.
Great video. Never seen your channel before. Instantly subscribed. Cheers!
Appreciate it!
Doesn’t rattle the house like my dual Svs did but …
Not having 11 channels of speaker wire running around the open concept living room, makes wife happy. I can’t get over how good the surround / Atmos sounds for four small speakers.
Thanks!
Hta 9 paired with the a95L as a center channel and sw5 is love.
I'm a little late on the video but it was very informative. A great job

Awesome review, well done
What is usually forgotten in tests is which one sounds the best in asymmetrical room and open spaces.. Since in perfect space the best performers can become the worst performers in asymmetrical rooms..
I think the A9 absorbs this factor the best … would have been good to make that more explicit
I totally dig your reviews, but I really would recommend using music more as content to test systems. Movies have music, so it makes sense. Plus, you can isolate the faults of each soundbar with music. When you have an action scene, it's way too layered to make out shortcomings
Well taken!
I have RP8000s in the front and PR5000s for the sides and back. Big surrounds and/or rear surrounds make a huge difference.

What if sennheiser came out with a new bar and surrounds offerings … could you resist?
Hell, if sennheiser just released a good pair of surrounds, I’d take that with an SVS sub over the dragon any day. Just my opinion.

I wanted to love this but i was disappointed and returned. It sounded great at high volume but very poor at low to medium volumes. Also it really needed a dedicated centre even if you have a SOny compatible tv.
Disagree with the Sony TV as a center channel. I have this system w/ Sony A9K and it sounds great (using the TV as a center channel).

I Never felt comfortable with my A9J as centre as I didnt feet it had the grunt to match main speakers. I could of lived with it mind, but my main gripe was the sound at low to medium volume levels which would be 70% of the time. My last system still sounded amazing at these volumes. @@SynjynB

Got the Samsung Q990C for 569eur! had sale at blackfriday + Samsung refunded 250 in Spain! amazing offer!
que tal suena esa barra? tan buena es?
love it!@@borjacasbas1887
Having bought the 990c i agree in that the lack of 3D sound disappoints compared to the 5.1 surround system that I use to have. Generally it's fine for most situations, but the emphasis on booming to give a film the sense of action is off-putting.
The "990C" is now $899 now on Amazon! Just grabbed one to replace my Sony ST-5000 (2020) that I’ve never been impressed by.
NOTE: Beach Camera (the seller on Amazon with the deal) just shipped me the 990D vs the C!
Now that’s a deal… YMMV but saw a similar review/comment posted and was skeptical until it showed up at my door!
I own Samsung hw-q990b for 5 full month already. It is very good. I wouldn't buy anything else if it was 25% more expensive, not even mentioning anything more than that- it's just not worth overpaying for me. If you're not printing money - go with Samsung.
Easy enough for you to say because you don’t have a YT channel you need to keep mildly interesting … but otherwise your calculation is correct for the significant majority in those segment
Excellent detailed review as always
I appreciate it!
I've been watching your videos since 5 months and I became a fan of your work and humour.coming to my question as I'm planning to buy Q990c is it worth to invest or should I get a standalone av receiver+speaker setup.
If you don’t mind all the complexity of an av receiver and the wires and space taking of all the components - go for it. SBs are around to make your life a bit simpler … the Cs sound would probably surprise you if you haven’t listened to SBs in a while
Для меня идеальный вариант это телевизор LG c3 и Samsung Q990D сейчас тестирую но большой разницы не чувствую по сравнению с Q990C
Been waiting for this 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Glad you waited!
Watching from the sidelines since I already own an AVR + surround sound setup. Love the aesthetics and wireless convenience of a soundbar setup, hate the slow pace towards a wireless AVR-less mix-and-match 7.x.x configuration.
Sonos is the company that can popularize it … I also hope Sony follows up with the A9
I have the 990b. Can’t sell it fast enough. I’ll never buy another “ flagship” for one year soundbar from Samsung. I am now deciding between the dragon or a dedicated system I thought I’d never do again. I have a quote coming for a dedicated system so we will see .
Thanks for ur continuous review, may I ask which 3 sound system come with best surround and bass?
Nakamichi and Sonos will give you the best surround bass combo - if you get two Sonos subs and the 300s
@@neverenoughtech but you mentioned in the video that you wouldn't buy a Sonos LOL.
In Hong Kong, sadly nakamichi doesn't sell the dragon. Liked you and few others say, its the best Soundbar in the market at the moment...
@@neverenoughtech do you mean i should buy 2 x 300s, and TWO subs?
Just need hdmi 2.1 ports then I’ll buy from Samsung, hoping the 2024 model will have it. Also hope they go to 10” sub instead of 8”.
I’m trying to get some input from more experienced soundbar users.
I’m also considering building a component surround system instead.
These soundbars are the ones I’m choosing between.
Which one would you recommend? I’m open to other recommendations as well.
Klipsch Flexus Core 200
Polk Audio - MagniFi Max AX SR 5.1.2
Nakamichi - Shockwafe 7.1.4Ch 850W Soundbar System with 10” Wireless Subwoofer
Samsung Q990C
JBL Bar 700
I’m going with the Sony HT-A9s.
I like the confidence!
Excellent review as always, great job.
Appreciated!
Dragon arrives tomorrow! If not that, I would have purchased the q990c
Physically prepare yourself
I've had the HT A9 for 6 months now and I love it. I had some dropping initially, but now I exclusively use my PS5 as my streaming device and haven't had a single drop since (I'm wondering if it's due to my PS5's Ethernet connection?). I find when I stream through my TV small, rare drops happen.
I imagine Bose ultra with the useful dialog mode would be a contender if they'd get some decent surrounds. I predict we'll see something offered in 2024.
Big ol fat if but I think they will probably offer something new next year - gut feel
Seeing all the love for the Samsung makes me really curious if I should have chosen it over the JBL 1300x
Yes you should have - the 1300x was pretty flashy but they need to make the bar more substantial
@@neverenoughtech stupid JBL being on sale for under $1,000 making me buy that.
I got the 990c and got it for a little lower than 700$
My take-away would be if you have the jack to let go, and the right space for a larger system, The Dragon is by far overall the currently available most impressive, albeit quite big, HTB system.
Looking to pick up a JBL 1300x but seems like it didn’t make it to the list. Maybe it doesn’t sound as good as these mentioned here.
It has a nice bass module but the SB and surrounds to a lesser extent are too light weight - q990C is better
@@neverenoughtech thank you, I’ll look into that model as well.
