    Superb review, thanks: I'm getting eye strain working (CAD) late at night, and I also game. I wanted to increase to 1440p from 1200p, and increase the Hz a bit, without worrying about the complications of the super-high frequency panels (It seems like tweaking and compatibility and exotic considerations start being Necessary at high refresh rates, requiring a Byzantine knowledge of monitor functionality). Without the loss of Colors. I think, especially for the price tag, this looks like a winner for me.

    • @andrewstout5400

      It finally arrived, andno complaints. I can immediately see an improvement while drafting. In terms of the Color, I never realized how Blue my Dell monitor was- the color representation is far softer/more natural on the ProArt, and for that alone I think it was worth it.

    Great review very detailed. I like this monitor a lot. Do you have any recommendations for similar ips monitors with a bit higher contrast ratio?

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому +1

      The BenQ PD2705Q has slightly higher contrast - pcmonitors.info/reviews/benq-pd2705q/#Contrast_and_brightness. Some of the high refresh rate models with wide gamut have somewhat higher contrast, such as the Gigabyte M27Q (~1200:1) - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Contrast_and_brightness. No IPS model comparable to these offer significantly higher contrast than that.

    I got the monitor few days ago, I'm noticing some flickering when Adaptive Sync is enabled - I have GTX 1650 Super. It is noticeable at full screen and windowed modes. Otherwise I like it, only the matte coating is a bit too light for my liking (compared to the LG 27GN800-B), but the white looks very clean with no graininess. I think I prefer 27GN800's coating at the cost of some graininess. Still not sure about if I want to keep it or not... the only reason I got it because wanted to see if 75 Hz monitors look better than 144 Hz one - in terms of pixel inversion/ glow and uniformity, also viewing angles. I do like 144 Hz fluid visuals more... but at what cost... comparing this monitor with LG 27GN800-B ... it is a DAY and NIGHT of a difference. The Asus looks so much better in almost every possible aspect.

    Hi, Amazing Video! I'm trying to choose between the ASUS ProArt Display PA248QV and the Dell Ultrasharp 2417, basically for photo and Video editing, Which would you pick? Thank you!

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому +2

      The ASUS, probably. Although I haven't used it, you can expect it to be a scaled down version of this. The OSD flexibility is much better on the ASUS and the thicker bottom bezel means it's less prone to uniformity issues. The overall build quality is a bit better, really. The Dell is also a good monitor, though (pcmonitors.info/reviews/dell-u2417h-u2417ha/ ).

  • @Valdorian276
    @Valdorian276 2 роки тому +1

    Thanks for the detailed review. I bought the monitor on your recommendation and am especially pleased with the text sharpness in typical office applications. The Gigabyte M27Q is of course better suited for gaming, but I'm still more convinced by the PA278QV. It could only be a bit less reflective.
    The only problem is the HDMI 1.4 connector; I guess correctly that even with the help of an HDMI 2.0 EDID adapter I can't enter a 4k 60fps singal to get a downsampled image in 1440p?

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you're enjoying it overall! The monitor doesn't include a '4K' downsampling mode and as you point out doesn't include HDMI 2.1, so it won't accept a '4K' signal at 60Hz no matter what you do. Not sure if an EDID adaptor could add support for a '4K' signal at lower refresh rates, but I doubt it.

      @@PCMonitors Thanks for the assessment! :-)
      It's really hard to find a monitor that works for both daily office tasks and gaming. If only the PS5 could output 1440p... I also tested the recommended M27Q, but with the frequent use of PDF documents, the display is too uncomfortable for the eyes, even with cleartype. It's a shame, because otherwise I had nothing to complain about with the Gigabyte.
      About the Asus Pa278QV
      I find that the display is noticeably smoother at 75Hz than at 60Hz. Since I don't play competitive shooters, but only co-op shooters like Borderlands, I have nothing to complain about. My copy also only has perceptible backlight bleeding on the right edge. The IPS glow is relatively weak; both are more noticeable on my Eizo Foris 2434, but its contrast is visibly better. Overall, there are few criticisms, except for the lack of downscaling from 4k to 1440p, but that's Sony's fault.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  2 роки тому

      Yeah, it's surprising how much of a nice upgrade 60Hz to 75Hz can be! And I agree, if you read a lot of PDFs then having standard RGB subpixels is very helpful.

  • @EvolutionBG
    @EvolutionBG 9 місяців тому

    Hey, It's me again. :D
    I have a question about the PA278QV, I do notice flickering (brightness flicker, NOT PWM) when adaptive sync is active (for example) monitor is set at 75Hz, while limiting to 60fps/60Hz in-game. My graphics card is GTX 1650 Super and suspect this is the reason.
    What GPU did you use for the test?
    Would It be better if I buy an AMD GPU for the upgrade?
    I'm still not sure if I want to keep the Dell G2724D. If I put aside the artifacts, I started noticing the horizontal brightness loss at 38° - it gets darker at really wide angles.
    Compared to PA278QV's way more consistent brightness (loss starting from 52°).

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  9 місяців тому

      Per the written review testing was with a GTX 1080 Ti and Radeon RX 580. I'll admit the VRR testing wasn't extensive on this review and not as much done on the Nvidia side as with more recent reviews, but I didn't observe obvious flickering from what I did test.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому +2

      The PA279CV (pcmonitors.info/asus/asus-pa279cv-4k-ips-model-with-usb-c/ ) will offer a similar solid construction and will have a similar focus on tight factory calibration. But the panel used won't be directly comparable so you can't really derive much from this review that would translate to that model.

    • @michael.knight
      @michael.knight 3 роки тому

      @@PCMonitors Thanks, really like how detailed the info is on your website. I think the panel used is the same as in the BenQ PD2720U. Do you think it will be significantly better than for example a less well-calibrated screen like the LGUL850?

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому

      The LG 27UL850 isn't a bad monitor. But the build quality, OSD flexibility and strength of factory calibration will be superior on the ASUS. And the colour gamut will be slightly more generous. The screen surface on the LG is a touch on the grainy side for my liking as well, but couldn't say exactly how the ASUS compares to that at this stage.

    • @michael.knight
      @michael.knight 3 роки тому +1

      @@PCMonitors I see, thanks. Will the color difference be due mostly to calibration then? I.e. if you would calibrate the LG properly, would it be pretty close to the ASUS? Or is there an inherent quality difference.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому +1

      The colour gamut is slightly different as I mentioned (both perfectly acceptable for sRGB, but still more generous with complete coverage on the ASUS). As is the screen surface. Neiher of those things will be corrected with monitor profiling using a colorimeter. I actually recommend significantly cheaper Philips models over the LG for general purpose and colour-critical purposes - although they're more cut down and lack USB-C or ergonomic flexibility. pcmonitors.info/recommendations/

      No experience with that one, but it has good potential based on the panel it uses - pcmonitors.info/philips/philips-288e2e-288e2uae-and-288e2a-with-28-4k-ips-panel/. Same as the ASUS VG289Q which I've received positive feedback on. For colour accuracy the issue is it has a wide colour gamut, so you'll need to calibrate it with a colorimeter or similar device. Or rely on an sRGB emulation setting, which is pretty hit and miss and usually locks off brightness.

      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому +1

      [original post edited by OP for accuracy based on below]
      1) The PA279CV stands beside this, '4K' models are not successors to WQHD models and do not replace them. There's a PA278CV which is just like the PA278QV with the addition of USB-C - pcmonitors.info/asus/asus-pa278cv-wqhd-ips-model-with-usb-c/.
      2) The PA279CV does not have a Mini LED backlight solution and if it did it would be vastly more expensive. pcmonitors.info/asus/asus-pa279cv-4k-ips-model-with-usb-c/ for correct information on that one. The PA27UCX family features Mini LED backlights and costs around 10x as much as the PA278QV (pcmonitors.info/asus/asus-pa27ucx-4k-ips-model-with-576-zone-mini-led-backlight/ ).

      The Acer is a wide gamut model, this model sticks closer to sRGB and has a good sRGB emulation setting if you need it. I don't have any feedback on the XV272UP beyond that, but from experience with other models in the series you simply don't get the same solid build quality or OSD featureset as you do with this ASUS.

      It really depends on how much you want to spend. You already said the PA278QV was an "expensive monitor" where you live, so the PA279CV would surely be quite a stretch. It's no better in terms of colour output, it's really the extra resolution you're paying for. That's nice to have, but not essential and not as important as colour accuracy for your purposes. 27" WQHD is already pretty good in that respect, so it's not something I'd prioritise unless you're truly comfortable paying the asking price. No PWM artifacts were observed during motion and we didn’t experience accelerated eye fatigue compared to using a screen with DC dimming. Everybody’s eyes are different and we appreciate some users would prefer the reassurance of DC dimming for backlight regulation. Most users shouldn’t worry about PWM at such a high frequency, even if they’ve found models with more usual PWM frequencies (e.g. 480Hz or below) bothersome. There are many factors to consider when it comes to viewing comfort on a monitor beyond PWM usage."

      The vast majority of higher refresh rate models in this segment are wide gamut and are covered here - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/making-sense-of-the-current-27-1440p-144hz-ips-segment/. Most of those models will suit you well, but for strong performance in the sRGB colour space I'd highly recommend calibration with your own colrimeter or similar instrument. That would actually be beneficial for the PA278QV as well, but it's particularly useful for wide gamut gaming monitors which aren't known for great 'out of the box' sRGB accuracy.

    So which one is your choice, this monitor or Dell U2719D?

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому

      My current recommendation is clear - pcmonitors.info/recommendations/. Both models are calibrated well in most cases. I prefer the screen surface on the ASUS (Dell = potentially lower glare but grainier). The 4-side 'borderless' design makes the Dell more prone to uniformity issues. The 75Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync are nice additions on the ASUS as well. Relevant thread - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/is-asus-pa278qv-a-good-middle-ground-for-photo-editing-and-gaming/.

      I recommend it, as should be clear in the review and also pcmonitors.info/recommendations/. There's always slight softening viewing Full HD videos on a WQHD monitor, that's not specific to this model and too slight to bother most users. It offers a very pleasing colour performance regardless of this.

    Any chance we could get a review on the pixio px277 prime? It's claimed to be the ultimate sweet spot. HDR600 1440P 144hz and just over £300! That's insane.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 роки тому

      It would be insane, but you've got your specs wrong there. It offers very basic HDR (HDR10 without any VESA DisplayHDR certification) without any local dimming and a colour gamut that's way off DCI-P3. There are too many other models I'd like to review that interest me more, quite frankly.
      And to keep this on topic for this video, the Pixio offers inferior sRGB colour accuracy, a somewhat granier screen surface, a greatly cut-down OSD, more basic ergonomics and build quality vs. the ASUS.

I hope you're aware the PS5 doesn't support a 2560 x 1440 signal, though. You'd have to use the '4K' downsampling mode which models like the BenQ provide (60Hz) or alternatively 1920 x 1080 (120Hz, in theory - PS5 is super fussy).

    Hi, I've had the monitor for a few weeks, but is it normal to have all this IPS GLOW ? Does your monitor have this IPS GLOW ? ua-cam.com/video/tDJRH3w47sE/v-deo.html

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  Рік тому +1

      The video is heavily overexposed, so it's not useful for assessing such a thing. 'IPS glow' is at a moderate level on this model and shown from a regular viewing angle in the review. Backlight bleed or other dark uniformity issues vary between units - and than can bring out 'IPS glow' more strongly. But you really need to assess that by viewing the screen centrally some distance back, isolating dark uniformity issues without 'IPS glow'.

    • @CanaleYouTubeGeneralista
      @CanaleYouTubeGeneralista Рік тому

      @@PCMonitors Thanks for replying, the video was shot in a dark room with a smartphone, there are also photos in the description of the video, I have deactivated all the automatic settings in the camera, how should I do to make a video or photo that is not overexposed ?

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  Рік тому +1

      The key is positioning of the camera - central and >2m back to eliminate 'IPS glow'. Most IPS models look like what you've shown if you capture them close up with automatic camera settings or high exposure. As for camera settings, I'd simply recommend making manual adjustment until it is close to what you see to the eye. But simply observing the bleed / clouding in isolation and seeing if there are clear issues there is probably more helpful than trying to capture them. See the capture in the written review for reference (but how exactly that image looks depends on your own system, screen and even lighting) - pcmonitors.info/reviews/asus-pa278qv/#Contrast_and_brightness.

      Do you have the monitor or are you basing this off photos and videos? It's really very subtle and I gave it next to no thought when I was using the monitor. I agree though, it's something only a few people would use and an on-screen solution that can be toggled should suffice for them.
