You exactly told me what I wanted to hear in the first 30 seconds. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for not telling me how your dog was sick, or you recently changed your setup , thank you for not wasting my time ☺️
That's reassuring as I purchased the ASUS ProART PA278QV monitor back in October. I haven't calibrated it myself yet as that would be another £150 on top, and I was on a budget. but its good to know I have the right tools for the job.
Very informative, specially when you take a few seconds to explain the meaning of some terms. This video gave me light for the best decision. Thanks for the links too.
I am just curious and maybe people can explain why doesn't anyone mention the MSI brand anymore hardly? Are they not good anymore or what? I have one that is over 4 years old and doing great! I just need a new monitor. Been looking at the G273CQ just cause for $179 its specs are as good as some that are over 600 even 800. So, can someone explain why MSI isn't mentioned hardly anymore?
Here's the issue. For one thing if you want actual rec709 color you need a blackmagic or AJA card or device to output to the monitor. Even if the monitor is "color accurate" It won't display proper video color space thru the GUI output. Also if. you are running the ASUS PA278QV thru the output device, you can't edit in 23.976 it won't display that frame rate, so beware. Editors need to know that just using full screen playback or Video clean feed will NOT give you truly accurate color.
The video is quite old and most monitors listed are discontinued here where I live and some costs like twice of the shown prices. Could you please recommend for 2023? Cheers and I appreciate your inputs.
GREAT list! Asus has definitely upped their game from their early days, thats for sure. For me, I wanted to go big, so I went with a 32" 1440 LG. (LG 32QN600-B) Basically the same specs as the one you listed, but has a 75hz refresh rate as well as free sync, and can be had for $400. What are your thoughts on calibrating the screen people have (ie MacBook or iMac monitor) and coloring on that? My thought is, with most consumers watching their stuff on mobile devices, alot of which are apple products, their monitors are fairly good (if calibrated), and would totally be a reasonable screen to color on, since it is the same tech that a vast majority of users will be viewing their products on. It's the same idea as to why most music producers check their mix on consumer products (AirPods, phone speakers, car stereos, etc), since that is what most will listen on.
Thank you for this! been wanting a color accurate monitor for editing but also for gaming for a while and for a long time, Ive set my eyes on the asus pro art 27" 2k monitor. Now I'm considering that gigabyte monitor since it has a higher refresh rate for the same color calibration
Thanks for this video! The content was super helpful but also concise and your delivery was also great, seeing as you managed to keep me engaged for pretty much the whole video, which is rare for me as I have a short attention span. Great vid!
Check before you buy 27" QHD monitors. Your editing software may display tiny text labels that are difficult to read. I have one, and I am mostly running it in HD resolution. I think for UI display, 24" HD resolution is better. To display the video image, you can get any monitor that can display pixel to pixel resolution, based on your video resolution.
Hey Matt, I noticed the quality of your video light has improved. Can you do a video of how you shoot your videos? Also I’ve been looking into ultra wide monitors, any recommendations? Thanks!!
ASUS ProArt 32" 4K Ultra HD 60Hz 5ms GTG IPS LED Monitor (PA329CV), I just bought this monitor, and it looks great. I want to know your opinion about it. Although I mostly use it for photos and video editing.
Ok. What about non budget monitors..? I'm just starting a you tube channel.. is 32" more desirable for editing? Two smaller ones? What about the widescreens..? 34".? Thanks for any help.

Hello I’m using Vegas Movie Studio software to edit a video and every time I use it my monitor goes to sleep within 10-20 minutes(even though I have it set up to never go to sleep) the footage is 4K but the monitor is not,and it happens only when I’m using that software, so do I need a 4K monitor to edit in 4K. Just purchased the Apple studio but short of funds to buy the Apple studio display at 1899. I saw the UR59C for 319 at Costco. Will this monitor display true 4K from the studio
Hey there ! The 4k Lg monitor is discontinued ( or that's what the shops in my country say) could you recommend a more affordable 4k monitor than the Asus one ?
Needs to compete with Goodwill price range of $25-$40 per monitor which is where I always get mine. Oddly, as a video editor of... I don't know 10 years... I've never given a dmmn about color calibration. Ever. Whatever video footage I'm working with is what you're going to get. I prefer my blacks to be dark because I'm blind and visually impaired and want as little unnecessary light bleed coming into my eyes as possible but that's about it.
So does editing video that is 1080p become altered/difficult when using a 16:10 monitor? is there a difference compared to the 16:9 monitors in that regard? The Asus ProArt PA248QV is in stock and not the Asus ProArt PA247CV but I don't want to have any editing difficulties.
Do you have hands on experience with these panels? Because I had the ProArt in my cart for a long time and have seen/heard/watched multiple people have loads of issues with them, ranging from colors to refresh rate to ghosting.
Haven’t tried any personally unfortunately, but I tried to pick panels that had overall good reviews. Look at any monitor and you’ll see bad reviews from dead pixels etc. I would make sure you buy from a site you can return it to if it’s broken
Hey Mat, I'm looking at getting a new monitor and just wondering if these monitors would still be a good buy in 2023, or is there any chance your making an updated video?
Just bear in mind if you're buying a monitor for the new Mac studio, DONT get a 4k monitor as it kills your Macs performance through re sizing from its native of 5K or 1440P. NOONE tells you this at the shop but some smart people on you Tube found out, search for 'why i returned by 4k monitor Mac studio'. MY Asus PA278CV is doing ai great job.
So I hear you on the Gigabyte monitor. I do believe the pro version of this monitor is one of the best on the market right now. But doesn't the gigabyte monitor and it's pro variant rendition need to be calibrated for the best color accuracy and delta e values? Don't Asus monitors come calibrated from the factory at the accuracy quoted in the spec sheet? Also, aren't the differences between panel to panel in a gaming monitor are much less regulated to strict standards? Aren't the quality of Asus panels much more strictly regulated regarding uniformity and backlight bleed? I am pretty much between the pro model of this monitor and a proart monitor with 144hz refresh rate. But bc of the questions above I am leaning more towards a proart monitor for essentially reasons regarding quality control and calman verification. Let me know if I'm wrong or your thoughts in general.
Hey Matt, Can I have your opinion on the Samsung LS24F350FHUXEN? I have this monitor currently, and considering upgrading, but I'm not sure if the color accuracy would benefit from an upgrade, because it already covers 72% of the NTSC gamut, which should correspond to 99,9% sRGB? Also, do you really need to own a color calibration device? I mean, you could just have it calibrated for about 20-30 euros, and be done with it? Or am I missing something? Thank you for your answer, great video btw!
Thanks for the very informative video!.. I have an ASUS TUF Gaming A15 laptop (144Hz, RTX, Ryzen7) but since I use it mostly for photo and video editing, I need to buy a larger (27'') monitor. I'd like to get a good colorgrading monitor in 1080i50 but it seems hard to find at this price
Hi Matt! I'm hooked to ViewSonic vp2468a for video editing. My only question is, I have a 13.3 inch Macbook Pro M1 2020 which has a built in resolution of (2560 × 1600). Since the monitor is 1920x1080, would there be some quality lost or anything like that? I really am looking forward to your answer and my purchase depends entirely on this.
There’s a lot of factors , in short ; a 1080p monitor wouldn’t look as good as your Mac airs display. For one , the mac air is higher resolution. And it’s a smaller screen. Pixel density is better for the mac air. ( 1080p on a 24 and 27 inch screen look different , 1080p on a 24 inch would look better because of higher pixel density). if you want to match the quality as best as possible without breaking the bank I would get a 24 inch 1440p or 4k monitor.
Can you make this exact video, but 4K ultra wide monitors only, it seems to be pretty tuff to find non curve ultra wide 4K editing monitors. Thanks!! great video by the way 👌🏾👌🏾

Agreed... the BenQ PD2700u is an outstanding monitor with 100% sRGB abd REC709 accuracy and comes pre-calibrated from the factory. (Of course you occasionally should recalibrate it from time to time. $475 at most well known web sources.

@@vcr4497 thank you so much. Just what I thought! I'd for a 4k monitor then!
Can you make this exact video, but 4K ultra wide monitors only, it seems to be pretty tuff to find non curve ultra wide 4K editing monitors. Thanks!! great video by the way 👌🏾👌🏾
Hey Matt would you do another video on 32" displays for color grading and video editing?
Super Helpful, Thank You!!
Hello matt,i have this exact laptop:Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W 2-in-1 15.6" 4K Ultra HD Touchscreen Laptop PC, Intel i7-6500U, 12GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Backlit Keyboard, Webcam, WIFI, Windows 10, Carbon Gray. Please given the specs,I wanted to know if am able to edit 4k regular videos!
Awesome guide, but I’m really surprised not to see the BenQ PD2700u which beats all of these for colour accuracy. It is pretty much on par with 5k Mac Screens 😊
I’ve had a bad experience with benQ’s reliability 😂
@@whoismatt Oh, really? What was the problem with BenQ? I'm using SW270C and had no troubles with it.
Agreed... the BenQ PD2700u is an outstanding monitor with 100% sRGB abd REC709 accuracy and comes pre-calibrated from the factory. (Of course you occasionally should recalibrate it from time to time. $475 at most well known web sources.
If I'm creating animations or video editing should I look for refresh rate in 144Hz?
Hello Matt
I have ViewSonic VP2756 - 4K monitor and when I shoot 120 fps with my sony a7s iii, I can't play the video on my monitor and in DaVinci Resolve. I get issue like media offline? is there any solution about it or I have to buy new monitor for 120hz? Could you help me about this problem? thanks :)))
That shouldn’t be a monitor limitation.
@@whoismatt what can it be ? do you have any idea ? :)) when I shoot 60 fps I can play it but 120 fps I can't ....
Hey Matt. Will 75hz be a problem for youtube videos, editing videos and movies?.
Because youtube is 30 and 60 fps
Nope it should be fine 👍
LG 27UK650-W 27" 16:9 4K HDR FreeSync IPS Monitor (Discontinued) and the other two LG's not available. 😕 This is an excellent monitor for photography and video editing and was in the top 5 monitors for the jobs.I have the 34" version which is also great for the same jobs. LG are a great source to look at.
Really helpful insights. Thanks!
can u please do a video for a bigger budget or give me some recommendations? my budget is 800-1000, I do photography, art and play games. I cant decide if i want normal or a larger monitor. Im interested in some lg, asus and samsung monitors but i hear so many mixed reviews.
Does the HP U32 still be good at video editing?
How come BENQ PD2700U was not included on the list?
BenQ SW270C as well, being a bit higher level.
Мanaged to get the first monitor (Asus ProArt PA247CV) , I am very pleased.
Would a 27 2k be better than a 24 4k for Mac book from 20 inches viewing?
My MacBook m1 Pro screen cracked…. And I have 3 deliveries to make by end of the week.. so I’m looking for a monitor 😭
Thank you for the references!
There some New OLEDs coming out. Heard those would be the best for color? Any News on those? I do not mind spending the extra $$
Thank you! Great help!
