Herbie is 82 years of age ! The trumpeter Terence Blanchard, Grammy Award winner, is a very famous jazzman, bandleader and film score writer of many Spike Lee films and even written operas. Came to fame as the Jazz Messengers trumpet player when Wynton Marsalis moved on.
Yes. I remember Terrence with that last great Messengers band. Donald Harrison on alto. They had a regular New Year's Eve date at Sweet Basil, we used to go every year. I have to say I'm not crazy about the sound of the guitar in this band.
I had the same thought. All other drummers are surfing this homogenic "indie" drummming aesthetics that prioritizes being cool rather than having skills... I prefer this kind of drumming, funky with guts and skills, not a fake hipster posse
Surely the most accomplished musician and band at the Festival. I was there in the beautiful sunshine enjoying the maestro. A good crowd but a shame so many drifted through not appreciating the calibre of these musicians.
I really loved the set but was basically lying down in the sun the whole time because by this point my feet and legs were in bits! Legend for sure, really special set
I was fortunate enough to see Herbie Hancock at Armstrong park, the spot where jazz was invented, in new Orleans at sunrise on the first international jazz day for free about 8 or so years ago. It was such a beautiful moment in my life.
Band: Trumpet: Terence Blanchard Bass: James Genus Drums: Justin Tyson Keyboards: Herbie Hancock A delightful and rockin' good time, presented here ! A LONG way from the Cantaloupe Island Album: Empyrean Isles (1964) - better-n-better !
Herbie is the last of the Giants and I wish him the best because we need him around a few more years to keep the level high and keep the creativity flowing and keep musicians on their feet to know that At 82 He is still kicking severe ass! Damn that solo was awesome. Not too shabby of a band either
A legend of this kind still performing AT THIS LEVEL is absolutely bonkers. Herbie may be an older fella, but he plays with the same childlike wonder of music, albeit with all the wisdom he's learned through the years.
the drums are fairly regular kit (though beautiful sound) but Fazioli Piano, 7 string lead (zalatelj?), 5 string bass (fodera?) and Raja trumpet - all very fancy instruments
A música ou o tema quando é bom não precisa de um músico, principalmente guitarrista, solando por horas com todas aquelas distorções clichês! Salve Herbie!!!
Last time I saw Herbie was the jazz hall of fame night when he was inducted, some crazy dog tried to bite the back of my hair off though it really soured the mood for everyone

thx for the information about the trumpeter. Very cool performance
My pleasure!
Yes, we knew that, but wtf was he playing? Anyway it was ''heavy weight'' . Everything.

👏👍👌 Great musicians
The best sounding drum kit of the festival.
My man Justin.

HAHA! must be his drum kit!
@@federicoabella776 "all other drummers"; word? All of them? Don't be silly.
@@federicoabella776 don't be so ignorant , this just isn't true

That's the general public bro
They don't really have much stage presence.
It’s jazz.Stage presence not required for talent!
Great to see such a huge crowd for a Jazz band.
I think the crowd knows its a band full of Jazz Legends and not just another jazz band around the block
I tend to call it Jazz Rock.
I put a bit of video of a girl dancing to this performance on my channel,
82 years old....man he must have found the fountain of youth! Herbie looks like he's barely in his 50s.
WOW Herbie Hancock playing. I'm older generation and love his brand of Jazz
I liked his well known hit Watermelon Man
Super musician!
Young people should know that he is a LEGEND
They have to be told because you wouldnt tell by listening to him lmao
One of the last few remaining living legend.....Chick would have rocked that crowd too....RIP..
what does it mean? every young person I know that is interested in jazz holds Herbie very high in their esteem

I also thought of when I saw Herbie and Chick together - so glad I did
This was absolute next level music on Sunday!! So much fun being there
Im listening to this every day.... Its that good 🎶

I will ever be so glad that I began my path into jazz listening thanks to this living legend, the one and only Mr. Hands: Herbie Hancock!
00:48 the happiest guy at the festival 😎😬😄

Amazing... what a legend
What a joyous way to start the day!
Beautiful version and good sound!
People always raggin’ on cantaloupes but every juicy melon is lovable; you rep those chill cantaloupes Herbie
😭 I missed herbie Hancock. That’s it I have just registered to go back home for the festival 🤞
Smooth and mighty at the same time😎
Truly appreciate this. Love it!
Legend! I wish was there!
It would have been a dream. Did you catch the whole set? I cried :)

Glastonbury is beyond my imagination to have Herbie here with so many people out there!
Long live Herbie!
Magnificent.
Miles is watching and sure is proud
He’s watching from Hell then!
This is so 🔥
living legend!
Great artist. Glad he is doing so well.
Thank you BBC for such treasures in these dreadful times.
A study finds that jazz fans are the happiest people of any genre of music. 😃 No surprises at all... 👍🏼
I want to see his live performance for a long time
This is amazing. 🫶🏽
Awesome 👏 👏👏🙏
Magnifique 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Great 🎶👌
herbie forever,he is the king
Damn, James Genus is killing it on that bass.

What an absolute pleasure it would have been to be there
Megaaaaaa 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This is the coolest 🎵🙂
When did Glastonbury grow up? And I'm loving it!
That drum 👌
Smooth wit ittttt

Smoooooooooth❤❤❤
Immensi.....bravissimi....
True Master.
the master.
🙌🏾🙌🏾
Very cool very enjoyable
Wow 🔥🔥🔥
Lionel's solo is so killing
the audio effect on the trumpet during the solo is great. I hear chorus, reverb, anything else there?
I've also heard Christos Stylianides play these effects. He might know. He's on insta etc. He's played with Jaz Kayser, Boiler Room, jazz Refreshed...
Maestro!!!
This is the first time i have seen Lionel played with a distortion tone.
Master!
Excellent 🎵😎👽🎙️🙂
A bit rad for Glasto!
This has to be one of the best versions of Cantaloupe Island in my opinion.
My favourite is 1991 Live Under the Sky (Japan) with Omar Hskim, Stanley Clarke and Wayne Shorter - 12 glorious minutes
Bestial me encanta los acordes en menor
Soooooo cool
Sizeable crowd for this one. Nobody left disappointed.
Olé ! Latin piano Mr Hancock !
I need whatever snare drum that drummer is using. Criiiiiisp!
Right?!?!
Just thinking the same. 🔥
It’s called the perfect left wrist smack model A
Very good

Just Wow
James Genus (Bass Player from Hampton, Va.)
Get down, Glastonbury!
And words are not enough...
Super
Watch the documentary on the creative processes he incorporated in the making of his Possibilities album and his true genius is revealed.
Wow.
❤
What's that chord he moves up to at 1:32 ?
What a nice audio
