Prince turned the lead guitar into the lead vocal. Just goes to show that being the best guitarist the world has ever seen isn’t about how fast you can shred or pick. It’s about making the guitar sing and wail with emotion so beautifully that one can’t help but be moved by it. This is a masterpiece performance by the master himself.

I was invited to my first Prince concert in 1997. I had never listened to his music at all. I entered the Pyramid in Memphis not being a fan, left that night after the show and I was completely changed. I would go on to see him 7 times in person and I wish so bad I could see him again. For those who never witnessed him live, you missed out on the absolute greatest live performer to ever do it. His musical IQ is far beyond what anyone else could ever imagine. I miss him terribly.

The thing about a Prince performance was he never went through the motions, he always played songs he liked and every fiber in his being was on tap. Something as simple as bending notes on his guitar required his whole body to do it, he would contort and make strange faces, but those notes would bend and that guitar would sing. Even in the song itself, he didn't do a Prince cover of Wild Cherry, he paid homage to Wild Cherry, it wasn't about him, it was about sending the audience home with something they'll never forget.

I went to a Prince show with my then girl friend ( now wife of many years) I reluctantly went. I walked out of that arena blown away completely by this guy. I met Prince when I was 12...I was at a bookstore in Culver City buying some books for school and my mom went to the register to pay. The cashier said she had already started ringing up another customer. Then out of nowhere Prince apologized and asked the cashier to add our books to his order. My reaction was "oh my God you're Prince" and he was asking me about Grapes of Wrath like it was no big deal
