I met Nile once on a redeye from Burbank to JFK. I was a flight attendant at the time, paying the bills while beginning my career as a jazz guitarist. I was practicing on the jump seat with a nylon string guitar while most of the plane slept. Nile came by to use the bathroom and heard me practicing a complicated John Coltrane song. We talked for a little bit, and then he picked up my guitar and played some of the baddest jazz guitar on the same tune. I was not expecting that from the guitar player from CHIC!

My dad was a roadie back in the 70s-80s in Oakland, CA. One night, EWF had a show in San Francisco the same night as Chic in Oakland. I believe Chic was still rather new on the scene, EWF had a large pull. My dad said they set up everything at the Oakland Coliseum (mind you, this is back in the day where you went to the box office to buy tickets so artists didn't really know how to gauge if a show was sold out) and only about 10 people showed up! They invited the staff to sit in the audience to watch and my dad said it was top three one of the best shows he's ever seen in his LIFE! I met Jerry Barnes backstage (the bass player in this video) and told him this story. His eyes were big and he belted laughing because apparently Nile tells this story to EVERYONE and no one ever believes him! Wish I got to tell Nile this story myself! The biggest applause on NPR from staff and others I’ve ever heard. Thanks for the memories, life was so different back then. Thank you to all the performers. The atmosphere even though the video was absolutely 5stars.

Well surely Tiny Desk Concerts can't get any better than this. Nile Rodgers is humanity's treasure. What a soulful performance, what an assembly of talents.

Out of ALL the Tiny Desk Concerts (and I've watched nearly all of them) this is the BEST. Great sound and in tune.

Soul Glo did it for me. That was awesome! I never knew that Nile Rodgers produced it, he is so talented. One of the best producers ever.

Bernard Edwards bass lines and style of bass playing was so smooth. I miss that original sound. Don't get me wrong, the new Chic band style sounds great too!

He was in the same rarefied air for putting down the groove as Michael Wiley and Bootsy Collins.

@@robertjones447 I agree! You don't ever hear much talk about Michael Wiley (RIP). I went to Disney World Orlando to see the Dazz Band back in the 80's and was right up front of Michael Wiley. I was hoping he was going to use his MM Sabre or Stingray Bass, but he played a G&L L 2000 Bass with the gold strings, the sound was unbelievable!

Bernard will forever be my favorite bass player and let’s not forget TONY THOMPSON! He was hands down the baddest drummer that ever lived. He changed the sound of music, he brought sounds that were powerful and I haven’t heard anyone like him since. He played with the band Power Station..go figure..

I always said I need a time machine. Just so I can go to 70s party. This has been added to my list of favorite tiny desk performers. Kimberly Davis and Audrey baby, yall sang tuhday! The horns really got me going. They don't make music like this anymore. I hope it finds its way back one day.

Nile Rodgers is still killing it till this day. He won a grammy this year for his contribution to Beyoncé's Cuff it at the guitare alongside The Dream, Raphael Saadiq ( bass, clavichord, keyboards) and Sheila. E (percussions)

Literally grew up with Nile Rogers and Chic singing, their songs in middle and high school choruses. This is an honor and a blessing to see this man living and performing the songs some of us grew up on nearly 50 years ago. ❤❤❤
