One of the main things not mentioned in this comparison is the video quality of the Nest Hello is night and day superior. Look at about the 6 min mark where the Porch Pirate is talking over both doorbells. On the Ring Doorbell you can see the Pirate well enough, but the background is completely blown out. Whereas the Nest Hello shows the background and the Pirate clearly. This is great for being able to see a face at the door but also a vehicle in the driveway or road in the background.
You forgot to mention that the nest video supports HDR which helps tremendously when you have a covered porch and a bright background. Notice the Ring video is all blown out and looks bad compared to the Nest video.
Very good information. My parents were discussing getting Ring and I pointed her towards Nest. Now i can point her to this video and comments as proof on why Nest is the better purchase decision.
Thanks for the review. I did my homework before I purchased my video doorbell, and I was going to go the ring, so that I can have a better view of the walkway to my door. My existing doorbell is off to the left in a corner. I opted to the Nest for the very reason you mentioned that I already have a google nest hub. Other reviews put the Nest doorbell top of the list for the video image. It is very good. What I noted in your video, but you never mentioned, is that you package and the porch pirate where taking the exact same route, and in the exact same place. Well thanks for telling us that, has you didn't mention that you see the package clearly in the Nest video, but on the image shown by Ring, it was almost out of view. The 1080P video that people think they should go after, needs to be considered, has the technology for the nest is able to show the full up and down view of your front door. Theft of packages at your front doors is what is alarming these days.
I spent over a year with a Ring system, never worked correctly, could not find the house WiFi without a Ring extender and that failed every few weeks, Ring's only solution was send me a new one and that would fail in a few weeks. I now have 2 Nest Hello's with a Nest Mesh Wifi Extender. It was more money but has been 100% reliable.
I didn't like Ring because of the bad WiFi performance and lost frames. It also had serious lag. Nest Hello has great WiFi reception and no lost frames. The lag is usually less then a second.
This is what I hate about the Ring also. It's laggy, has missed or blurred frames, and the intercom sounds muffled. So disappointing. I want to switch to the Nest Hello.
You might want to mention that with the nest doorbell the feed automatically shows up on the Google homes where as with the echo devices , last I checked, require you to interact with the display to get the feed to show up.
One thing to factor in is costs for other offerings. The ring system security options are a fraction of nest, cams are $100 or more less than nest as well. As a Google pixel and home user the lack if intergration with Google home and hub is frankly irritating as hell.
I had both and the Nest wins it for me. The nest doorbell is quicker to get to the app like the video had it. Also, the google home feature takes the cake. Doorbell rings on all Google home displays or speakers rings all over the house. Ring has the better outdoor lights which I use. I switched to the Nest because the Ring pro that I had I never get to pull up the video once they ring it. Its like a minute later by the time. I know its really bad because ring released a separate app called Rapid ring lol.

Great review. This topic (aka Video Doorbell) is so active those last months. Every week something new comes to the market. Keep making Comparisons for the new arrivals!
The wired Ring doorbells (as well as wired Nest Hello doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail. The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.
I bought the Nest Hello doorbell before the migration to Google Home and it was definitely messy. They seem to have the worst of the bugs worked out now so it shouldn't be an issue. Most stuff that works with Google Home should have little trouble integrating Nest products. I obviously haven't tried everything but all my stuff seems to work.

On it's own the Hello Doorbell is very nice. I feel a major thing that's causing me to think about going with Ring is that Nest products don't play well with other products. An example..I am looking at the Schlage Engage smart lock...with Ring you can integrate the lock with Ring so you are able to send a command to unlock the lock WHILE you are looking at your live view in the Ring app talking to a visitor. Google doesn't give you this option, it doesn't even give you this option WITH THEIR OWN SMART LOCK (Nest x Yale lock)....that just seems completely outrageous that you have to leave your live view, open another app to unlock the door, then come back to your live view using products from the same company that are supposed to play nice with each other. Really disappointed in Google lately.
What? How is 1600x1200 a lower resolution than 1080p? Does that change at all with viewing angles on 160° fisheye lenses? Wouldn't the curvature necessitate gradient pixel density depending on where on the lens light passes before hitting the sensor?
I bought "SkyBell" because it stores a bunch of files on my phone before rolling them off chronically. We have to be careful not to tack on so many micro-payments for cloud storage and the like. It adds up and will silently crush your budget without you realizing what's happening. Watch out for these micro-payments that will ultimately bankrupt your savings!!
I have Nest Hello, the only downside is on my end. I live in an apartment and there's 2 units upstairs, mine and the neighbors. Whenever anyone walks up the stares I get an alert. My neighbors are ALWAYS in and out so while I'm at work or just relaxing I'm getting constant notifications that someone was spotted at the door. Luckily people are too lazy to climb stares to steal packages lol. My mother lives own a high traffic road, even when I lived with her we never dealt with "porch pirates" and we had packages coming in at least once a week. I bought her the Ring 2 and the Pro so that she could have one. She has yet to choose which one she wants up so I can't compare first hand experience just yet lol
Thanks for the informative video. I suppose these security systems would not work for condo owners in a multifamily dwelling. Are there any models that one could narrow the focus and depth of field ?
But it would announce the creepy neighbor... With that name you put " Hey! The CREEPY NEIGHBOR is at the door!" Google home is pretty clear and he surely would hear that. Wouldn't that cause trouble? lol
You didn't mention the night vision. I had both and Nest's is much better than Ring especially with my darker complexion friends. Also, Nest's always recording so you have a timelapse which is helpful if you wanted to see something that happened out front of your house but they didn't trip your set up area. Ring only records when someone trips your preset area. You could make your preset area bigger but you'd be alerted with a bunch of useless info during the day. That always recording could eat into your data if you don't have an unlimited plan.
also, I would like to see face unlock technology like the Iphone has.. this would be more accurate and could allow the home owner to get in even without their phone or a physical key. Also it would provide far more accurate biometric data to respond to other coming to door and perhaps that facial deptth biometric data could be used as evidence in case of an illegal breakin or theft, on top of a 2d photo or video. Also, with this, it would make AI more usefull in responding to person coming to door and more securely having a dialogue with them, once they have been identified initially with the 3d depth face recognition tech.
Now that Google is using a 3d face id with project soli I could see the becoming a thing soon google already said project soli would be in everything and this here radar based is way more accurate then a motion based sensor, since soli does not require a camera to see it's within certain amount of feet u have to be for radar to detect u. Also the 3d face unlock from pixel 4 will probably be something they use combined with soli on a lot of devices going forwards.
@@mrdadecounty3056 that would be great. I can see companies like UPS and Fedex and Amazon intigrating into it.. Maybe even the USPS for added layer of security for deliveries. I could also see this being of interest for families with kids to give them added peace of mind. Perhaps it could even be used for pets.. For example. Say I created a pet food feeder. I could do a face ID for the pet which would individually activate a feed mechanism. Or id could be used to unlock a pet door.. I am not sure how well the radar would work with animal faces. but perhaps the radar system for face unlock along with an rfid beacon combined could be used to further layer security, along with other algorythm or machine learning tech. Perhaps also if the face unlock made its way to pay terminals.. it could be used in conjunction with a password for payment systems?
Nest Hello requires you to accept Third Party Cookies, Ring does not. By the way I have both and the Ring is terrific! The Nest is Unsupported and was a total waste of money.
I love they did not hide the actual doorbell on that house. Also the two best doorbells suck as they require a subscription to see any of the videos. Still waiting for a doorbell camera that doest try to latch onto your wallet
faultless18 video quality, also the video runs continuously on the nest the ring only when motion is detected. So say if someone goes in your driveway and the doorbell can’t see it the video won’t start on the ring. Get the nest it’s way better trust me.
We had our first package theft in four years and basically three out of three ring devices failed to detect motion. The reason I know is because I have a backup system from another brand. I called Ring Support telling them basically the system failed. She checked everything, Wi-Fi speed, zones, etc after putting me on hold, probably talking to a supervisor on how to respond, she said that it was because of cool down and frequency settings. The last motion was 8 minutes before and she knew it. I pay $30 for the Ring Plus and am 100% disappointed in their response. If you see this review on other videos, then it’s because I’m THAT DISAPPOINTED after spending nearly $1k in product and fees. Unfortunately, I have no idea which system is best at person detection, but I know it’s not Ring.
If you want a notification telling you that someone rang your doorbell 5 minutes ago and want to be connected to the camera 5 minutes after that then go for Google Nest.
@@TruthVideosOnline For basic video and its intended purpose Horizontal resolution is not as important than vertical pixels. So 1200p is still higher resolution than 1080p even though 1920p Horizontal resolution is better than 1600p horizontal pixels. On a computer monitor where both vertical and horizontal pixels are both important it is less important for door bell videos.
Hello, I see that you have a Samsung family hub on 5:40. How are integrations between video doorbells to this smart display? Scenario: if some one rings the doorbell can i see it immediately on my fridge? Without any touches or commands. Particulary interested in the Nest capabilities since that is the platform im leaning towards
You should've mentioned that the ring does not automatically display a live feed when someone presses the doorbell. You get a notification and you then ask Alexa to show you the live feed

It looks like the two way talk sounds a lot clearer. Im getting alot of background noise with my ring right now. its pretty annoying.
I had Ring when we bought our new home but I went and replaced it with Nest only because I have Google products throughout. They are both good but I just have a preference for Google products but you really can't go wrong either way in my opinion.
The neighbor one is perfect. I’m 14 and I have a Ring doorbell and my next door neighbor kid in the summer always comes to the door. What do I do? Just shut up and don’t move until he leaves.

You really want to give all of your security to face id?
Eufy doorbell is pretty damn solid. 👍
Bought both and the Nest is the best buy
Only thing I can say nest is better with is Recognizing people that is literally the only thing it has over ring
I love they did not hide the actual doorbell on that house. Also the two best doorbells suck as they require a subscription to see any of the videos. Still waiting for a doorbell camera that doest try to latch onto your wallet
Ive got the nest and my neighbor has the ring... he wishes he had a nest
What makes the nest better?
faultless18 video quality, also the video runs continuously on the nest the ring only when motion is detected. So say if someone goes in your driveway and the doorbell can’t see it the video won’t start on the ring. Get the nest it’s way better trust me.
@@CR-qu5jc this is what I am looking for! Thank you,
We had our first package theft in four years and basically three out of three ring devices failed to detect motion.
1:37 Am I hearing correct?? The 1600x1200 is less than 1080p?? I dont think so!! It's just a ratio different
If you want a notification telling you that someone rang your doorbell 5 minutes ago and want to be connected to the camera 5 minutes after that then go for Google Nest.
At 1:35: "the nest is a little less than 1080p at 1200 x1600"
Dude great vid but that is more than 1080p
@@TruthVideosOnline For basic video and its intended purpose Horizontal resolution is not as important than vertical pixels. So 1200p is still higher resolution than 1080p even though 1920p Horizontal resolution is better than 1600p horizontal pixels. On a computer monitor where both vertical and horizontal pixels are both important it is less important for door bell videos.
0:01 ring
I know this is a very small thing, but I like the nest hello better with the nest logo.
Lol
Hello, I see that you have a Samsung family hub on 5:40. How are integrations between video doorbells to this smart display?
Scenario: if some one rings the doorbell can i see it immediately on my fridge? Without any touches or commands. Particulary interested in the Nest capabilities since that is the platform im leaning towards
Did you get the Nest Hello? And if so how do you like it?
Great video, definitely helped with making my choice.
You should've mentioned that the ring does not automatically display a live feed when someone presses the doorbell. You get a notification and you then ask Alexa to show you the live feed
THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD VIDEO hahaha. and the actor is great!!!
LOL! GREAT cinematography!
So with nest, it has the feature for the doorbell live footage to automatically show on the Google assistant when rung or you have to do it manually?
The video quality on Ring is better, but I'm hoping NEST comes with a 1440p camera in the future
Great Video..Very impressed cnet!
Rings work well with the Wink hub. And you can unlock your door with the Wink app. There are more options than sticking with Nest or Amazon hubs.
whats the best wireless one then ? my wires are cut so need a fully battery operated one
I'm having issues with my ring right now. The 2 way talk is dreadful its really not working at all right now. I really am thinking about trying to do with Nest and see if its a better option. It looks like the two way talk sounds a lot clearer. Im getting alot of background noise with my ring right now. its pretty annoying.
Thanks I found my doorbell 👍🤣
Love the creepy neighbor!
Sound quality from the devices is noticeable. The nest sounds more clear.
I had Ring when we bought our new home but I went and replaced it with Nest only because I have Google products throughout. They are both good but I just have a preference for Google products but you really can't go wrong either way in my opinion.
I cant figure out if these door bells slide out easily or not. Are they easy to be stolen?
I would have to hire an electrician. I dont have a wired doorbell. I love the part when you hide from the creepy neighbor.
The neighbor one is perfect. I’m 14 and I have a Ring doorbell and my next door neighbor kid in the summer always comes to the door. What do I do? Just shut up and don’t move until he leaves.
I have a nest cam for the house and it doesn't miss a beat.
Nest wins hands down !
Edit : remember nest has now planned a new subscription where you can include every camera/device to one monthly sub coming
Feb 2020 prices are from £5 a month n upwards for the 5 day video logs
HeineKen Ashi 5 days isn’t long enough,it needs to be a minimum seven days.
@@FrancesHart99 well buddy nothings stopping you going for the 10 my friend as it's only a couple of bucks more I'm sure ;)
