Just installed the doorbell and new chime. House was wired for a doorbell. My inside chime has no sound. Currently can't find the option to turn on or off in the app.
@@edwinruiz2889 I had the same problem. My solution given by a technician was to turn on the electronic chime setting and set it to ring for ten seconds. Then turn it off. It worked for me after thinking it was the doorbell itself.
The wired Nest doorbells (as well as wired Ring doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail. The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.
Good info, i got it as a gift. When this happens in the trash it will go and i will use my standard security cameras as normal. Its a shame they don't tell you the info you provided upfront. Not sure why some people think its fun to constantly have to repair poorly designed products and repurchase the garbage.
always check the voltage at the outdoor ringer wires. 18-24 volts AC is always recommended. I've never had a video doorbell install successfully outside that range.
This is the second home in which ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. Imagine your doorbell is wired up on a 30 amp 240V circuit. I know some video editor kid just took some b roll of a hand flipping a breaker but bravo to that kid because that actually made me laugh. Anyone else catch that?
You may need this. No where in this video or on the setup it says that if you are using an electronic doorbell aka the ones where you can choose between a bunch of different tones, that it will not work until you go into the settings on the nest app and turn on that you have an electronic chime. You can then select a length of time the chime will ring up to 10 seconds. Also you can only change your chime song in those 10 seconds when the doorbell button is pushed. I spent 2 hours trying to figure this out messing with wiring and the little diodes that you normally put on the button (do not use or your doorbell will just continuously chime). It was a huge pain in the butt and the only reason I figured it out is because I found a random google forum talking about it after quite a bit of searching. Nest should really have this info on the setup instructions.

Hello. I have the ring pro. They have amazing customer service. I also have several nest cams. I wanted to add an additional camera (Nest Hello) and let me tell you about he experience. I installed it and the video quality is amazing. The alert time is horrible, between 30-60 secs. And then to answer the alert sometimes works and doesn’t. I went back and forth with customer service and they told me that many people weren’t have the same problems basically blamed the issue on my WiFi but yet all my other Nest cameras work flawlessly. I kept asking if they were working on a fix and they again told me many people weren’t have the same issue so no fix. They also told me if I wasn’t happy return the product so I did. Bottom line, if you want security and reliability, stick with the Ring until Nest fixes the problem!!!!! Rings notifications are also instant so be aware of this. Do yourself a favor and wait.
I have 150MB at the front door and my Ring never worked right. Hours spent with tech support. Even replaced all of the Wifi gear. Of the 5 friends that also bought Ring stuff, 4 of them have removed it for poor performance.
Reliability, perhaps, but the Ring's biggest problem is that its security is absolutely TERRIBLE. One quick command injection attack and a hacker has access to your entire internal network. Amazon has really dropped the ball with regards to the security aspect of the Ring line. Giant security hole. And it sits outside your house. You couldn't pay me to put a Ring on my home.
The Nest Hello is a video doorbell, which allows you to see anyone coming up to your front door and ringing your doorbell, knocking on the door, dropping off a package or snooping around where they shouldn’t be! It cannot open your door from within the Nest app. Likewise, our Nest x Yale lock can only lock and unlock your door from within the app. Thanks for reaching out!
Need instructions on connecting to a front/rear (three wire) chime. Both this video and the nest video only showed the instructions for two wire setup (front and transformer). I couldn’t connect to unit via Bluetooth (no troubleshooting there either), so I couldn’t follow instructions on nest app.
Just installed it today. The Nest Hello unit is functioning the way it should. But oddly, I’m not able to get the mechanical chime to chime when the bell is pressed. I receive the alerts on my phone. My indoor mechanical charm no longer works. I can’t imagine this being a transformer issue since the bell is working. Any thoughts?
It's a combination of things. If you do a Google search for the procedure to "wire a ring doorbell directly to transformer". There are tons of links and walkthroughs. It's the same procedure for the Nest Hello.
Question about the install. It shows you choosing front or back doorbell when installing the connections to the chime. What if I'm installing both at the same time?
Both wires from the chime connector can be attached to the transformer contact, then a pigtail splice can be (essentially a "Y" connection") for the two clip connections.
My existing doorbell button is mounted in a standard electrical box with a plastic cover plate ; a common situation. The standard electrical box screw holes don't line up with the holes on the Google Nest Hello doorbell's plate, so I need some sort of adaptor plate, but can't find one. What does one do in this situation? It must be a very common problem.
I'm sure you've found a solution by now but if the original was installed on a plastic cover then your Nest Hello could be installed on a cover plate as well.
Okay, I am so jealous of the people who live in a house after watching this video! I live in a condo building with six other residents and can’t install a Nest Hello for that reason. Jealous!…
I installed a new Nest Door Bell today. When I try to talk to someone at the door bell they are reporting that everything they say comes back as an Echo. Sometimes 2 or 3 Echo's?????
Currently on my second one of these. On the first one the clear front of the doorbell started to develop what looked like air bubbles underneath it and was starting to chip and crack. I contacted Google warranty and they sent me a new one ( Jan. 2022). Today, November 2022, I noticed that the front of my second doorbell is starting to do what the first one was doing. Guess I will be contacting Google again.

What transformer (voltage) you for this product??
How do you use the release tool
There's no instructions for homes that do not have a chime. What do we do with the puck?
Can it mount side ways instead of up and down? Installing on siding
Does it run on battery too?
can you open the door with the app?
The Nest Hello is a video doorbell, which allows you to see anyone coming up to your front door and ringing your doorbell, knocking on the door, dropping off a package or snooping around where they shouldn’t be! It cannot open your door from within the Nest app.
Likewise, our Nest x Yale lock can only lock and unlock your door from within the app.
Thanks for reaching out!
Will 10-16v work video or will I get flashing yellow
I did just install one , check voltage in transformer first and make sure you have 24 volts less is not going to work .,
Yea I realized this after 5 attempts... Mine is 16V 10VA 😣🤦🏾♂️
Thanks for the heads-up! I'll check mine now... hope I have better luck than ZeroChill 215
My transformer is 18v, and it works fine
Patrick M Finding that transformer is another mission. Thanks, Pat. I’ll try that.
It's a combination of things. If you do a Google search for the procedure to "wire a ring doorbell directly to transformer". There are tons of links and walkthroughs. It's the same procedure for the Nest Hello.
In the settings you can turn on and off the chime.
How do you insert the release tool
HOLD UP. Is that a macbook in a google video?
No chance! Its a Google CHROMEBOOK
Austin Lock It was uploaded last year
Austin Lock Google acquired nest in 2014
can the wires come out of the top half of the mounting bracket if those wires are connected from the top instead of the bottom?
Great question. You should be fine as long as the wires come in, anywhere in the middle of the bracket.
Can I put Nest Hello on my front and back door??
Will this be offered in white in the near future?
We have no plans regarding a white Nest Hello at this time.
Why would I need a ladder to install a doorbell?
Uhhhh to reach the chime lol I asked the same question and I looked for the chime and its like 14 feet above me lol
Jeff Dietzel but I just finished installing the doorbell. It's pretty easy 😊
so do it myself, don't pay a nest person?
yea, just follow the steps in the app. Total time will take around 30-45 minutes to install
You've got the wrong cables probably, thank your electrician. You should have propper twisted pair with a shielding
The issue is with your one of your mics picking up the audio feedback. This has nothing to do with the power wiring.
Can you use the google mesh as a chime?
Tommy, Go home and get your chime box.
I don't know if you heard. I didnt come up there to see you. But I dont chime shoes anyone.
Anymore*
Oh stop it jack you’re killing me 😂😂
What if the wires are too short and no space for wire extenders behind the doorbell?
Can you push them into the well?
@@AJDeLaRosa thanks, I mounted it on a mounting bracket ordered from Amazon. It worked out but not as pretty as I wanted it to be :(
Do I need a dedicated 30 amp breaker for the chime?
That's what the video showed, just make sure you upgrade your doorbell transformer to the 200VAC 30A -> 24VAC model for good measure.
Must be 220VAC, 30Amps because this thing draws some serious current!
No u don't
Lol no
I had to upgraded my house service from 100amp to 200amp 3 phase because I installed 2 of these door bell, wow it was costly
The Nest video doorbell rings lovely outside but not inside. The inside doorbell rings funky or not at all. Why? I am not happy .
Is it normal to be wobbly like it moves up and down
I sont have a door bell or a chime, i have an older home so no wiring what door camera from Google can i use thats wireless and doesn't need wiring
What if I don't have a breaker for the doorbell and chime.
Then your house wiring is illegal and dangerous.
The previous owner did not label the breakers...how do i safely find the one that targets the zone with the doorbell?
Who needs a ladder to install a doorbell though? How would you ring it then?
My door bell is powered by a battery within it sooooooo... And our chime box is connected to the bell via Bluetooth so I have no idea how I'd install this
Same here.. figured they’d be battery powered or something.
I wish Google will come up with a battery powered doorbell soon. Been waiting for too long now.
You would be able to have 24/7 video with a battery.
@@Klaas_H I don't think so. And i think it's stupid to run a camera product on a battery, having to charge it every month. It's way more efficient to take the hassle to run a wire and after that not having to think about it anymore.
This was very easy to install, both chime and doorbell, but I got the damn blinking yellow light which means there apparently isn't enough voltage. House was built in 2003 so it's not some really old house with old electric. Had no problems with my Ring doorbell hooked up to the same wires. Seems like they just want to make you "Hire a Pro"
Usually that means your transformer is not putting out enough voltage. Try using a multimeter to read the voltage at the doorbell
Is nest hello doorbell waterproof
To be honest... This thing just screams "I have a shit load of expensive shit in my house because I can afford a 300 dollar doorbell!" Cameras are ineffective with masks. These things make true theives salivate
If you've got a shit load of expensive shit, then the odds are your house is giving you away, not your doorbell. Like, nobody is going to drive past my place and think "eh, there's probably nothing worth having in th....hey, wait a minute, is that a Nest doorbell? Jackpot!". They're gonna know from the street that it's a juicy target that's probably defended in some capacity.
Mine will be set up under a sign that says no soliciting and the doorbell will be set up to send an electrical charge to the asshole who can't read the sign. The camera will allow me to watch from anywhere.
