Given the reputation of Led Zeppelin, they never seem to give the impression that they were conceded pretentious group of guys. Just chill dudes who rocked the fuck out.
They really were, brother. They were so no-nonsense and down to earth it's ridiculous. Pagey was working from age 15. Jonesy was just a straight forward, level-headed bloke. Percy and Bonzo were from the Midlands, nuff said
This performance is pure gold from the beginning to the end...That little dance thing,Deciding what to play,Robert messing with the crowd,That whole "I want to be Jamaican!" Part and Jimmy and Robert teasing each other,JPJ killing the base and keeping up with Jimmy's improvs,Bonzo FALLING OFF,and Jimmy shaking hands with those two lucky guys...It's just wonderful!Zeppelin for life!
The day of this concert is the same day Monty Python and the Holy Grail came out. Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd helped finance the movie and Robert Plant tells the crowd at the end to "watch out for the Holy Grail"! Pretty cool...and this song is killer!
This is still a rippin version. Jimmy's driving rhythm playing remained pretty awesome throughout all time and this song brings it out. Giving birth to elements of Johnny Ramone's style. When I was lucky enough to see P&P in the 90's Robert's voice still spiked the PA and I was amazed at one point in 98 that I could hear his raw voice above the PA. Truly phenomenal.
Did any here get to see these guys live?? It seems we are few and far apart now. I got to tell you guys; that this was one the best experiences in my life having seen these guys 4 times. I have had many amazing experiences in my 72 years. I got to know personally Elvis Costello; met a royal princess; a vice president..sport stars and movie stars...but seeing Led Zepplin live tops my list. I was 26 years old back in 1970 when some friends and I decided to go To Montreal to see Led Zeppelin. Zeppelin would be our first concert; excecpt for Bert who was at Woodstock. Somewhere in during the concert a couple of my friend disappeared. I thought at first bathroom, but they didn't come back. We met up again after the concert outside the Montreal Forum. I was dazed and confused..(really) I wasn't able to turn my head to cross the street...I had to turn my whole body lol. My friends explained the concert was just too powerful and they were not able to handle it. We made our way back to the hotel. I sat on my bed speechless, and slid off my shoes. I didn't even undress; I was out like a light when my head hit the pillow. I have not stopped talking about that experience or Led Zeppelin since. I have see many of the greats from my generation, but nobody does it like Led Zeppelin. They were special. I wish you all could have experienced them, and it gives me great joy to know that you all love Zep as much as I do. I can tell you this; I'm 72 years old now; and you as you grow older; you will grow to love them even more than you do now.
I've always wanted to see Led Zeppelin live. I remember my mom ordering tickets thru a lottey of some sort. I believe it was at that time John passed away or maybe it was Robert's son that passed away.
this video literally shows that there are the best band! the chemistry , the joy , love for fans , respect for another musicians ...everything about them is amazing
Matt Cartwright they were getting a second wind, after the US tour. Where plant was mostly sick, page sprained his finger. Here plants vocals were clearing up and page playing better too., they were set to do a world tour after their holiday break. But plant got into a crash and it never happened
Communication breakdown, always the same, having a VOCaL breakdown, drive me insane! Just kidding Plant's voice still sounds great even with those voice cracks!
yeah man 3:45 min of singing zep songs, 3 nights in a row is rough, plus he never warmed up, or gave a fuck and partied so. With some editing this could be a remarkable, these whole series of shows in a deluxe boxed set, with booklet, program, posters, audio and DVD would be amaze balls, really their LAST gasp of RAW Zep before the heroin took over and harder drugs really took hold of them
Robert's not only a world class vocalist and lyricist, he's funny as hell onstage too with the things he says. As good as they were they never took themselves over seriously and concentrated on the fun aspect of it.
I agree. I don't really fault him for his voice cracking, and people who do.... well, try singing weeks at a consistent rate without ripping up your voice. He had the flu during this performance and he still pulled through, its amazing.
Jimmy sounds great here, not nearly as sloppy as on the 1977 tour which was due to an extended bout of sleeping sickness. I wish Robert had sung "It's Your Thing" here, but he goes into the Reggae stuff. Still great all around. Thank you for posting.
I was there. So strange to be seeing it again nearly 40 years later. Went the Friday night show, their third one, too. They only did Heartbreaker and Communication Breakdown on the last night of the five shows. I recall someone going to the first show telling me Jimmys Guitar packed up in the opening Rock n Roll which was not a good start, but hey that's show business. RIP Zeppelin
+ndwells1 I saw them too. We are a couple of lucky guys huh? Montreal 1970 Vancouver two nights in a row in 75 and again in 77 in Seattle, Man we are so lucky. I got a feeling that these guys here DO know what they missed. The love for this band by a new generation is really uplifting to me. It makes my heart soar like a hawk to hear your comments guys.
No, it's not D'yer Mak'er, it's a cover of "It's Your Thing" by The Isley Brothers. They played that live long before D'yer Mak'er came out, you can even hear it on Communication Breakdown from the BBC Sessions.
I saw Led Zeppelin in December '71, and after the encores the band came back on stage and signed autographs. Imagine that happening with ANY band these days.
Yeah and the tickets were probably $6.50 I saw Zeppelin myself 4 times... Yep best band ever I was 26 years old when I first saw them. I'm 73 now and love Led Zeppelin.
Mosixman no I never did I wouldn't take the chance; too powerful the band. I had two friends leave in the middle of the concert because they couldn't handle the energy. All we smoked was a joint amongst us. drugs we're not needed
you're referring to the video footage of this concert in which it only shows half of the concert. the concert was actually 3 hours 45 minutes long and this was one of the encores on the final night at earls court
Percy and Bonzo were from the Midlands, nuff said
3 hours and 45 minute concert. OMG! They really gave it to the fans. No wonder Robert’s voice is cracking.
None of the punk bands would have been able to do it. They’d have been too lazy too.
And tickets were probably only about 8 bucks
1:24 "i'm jus tryna think if we ever had any hits" Robert plant is the best 💀🤣
let's see how well you stay "in key" after singing and dancing your guts out for 3 and a half hours.
5:57 "I think I can smell the ganja" 😂 I love Robert
7:01 Did Bohnam just fall?? LOL!
That reggae section was a all time classic
This performance is pure gold from the beginning to the end...That little dance thing,Deciding what to play,Robert messing with the crowd,That whole "I want to be Jamaican!" didn't know Steven LeBlanc. Led Zeppelin tend to say off the wall stuff, but that stuff is stellar
John Paul Jones is like a fucking surgeon on this one. Jimmy Page was blessed with an amazingly reliable rhythm section in his day.

+Robert Worth thanks for sharing your experience with the greatest band of all time... Cheers!
+MetalJeffrey your most welcome. glad to share such an amazing experience.
I've always wanted to see Led Zeppelin live. I remember my mom ordering tickets thru a lottey of some sort. I believe it was at that time John passed away or maybe it was Robert's son that passed away.
+Robert Worth, thank you for sharing your story.
+Kathleen Sky Blue its great to share those memories. glad you enjoyed it
3:11 - This solo will remind people why in the period after Hendrix's death, Page was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the rock guitar world.
The truth
this video literally shows that there are the best band! the chemistry , the joy , love for fans , respect for another musicians ...everything about them is amazing
Jimmy shaking hands with the fans is great!!
Still the best rock band ever...
definitely best rock band EVER
James Patrick Legend Fucking Page!
Jimmy shaking hands with a couple of fans! Wow!!!
This is awesome......all round, in every way. Yes, they were not pretentious...few musicians were at the time. Veteran Music Gal here.
Zeppelin in their prime are just simply amazing
That guitar solo just rips! Amazing!
when a band is so good they can freeball a song and jam along with each other - Robert and Jimmy playing off each other.
Matt Cartwright they were getting a second wind, after the US tour. Where plant was mostly sick, page sprained his finger. Here plants vocals were clearing up and page playing better too., they were set to do a world tour after their holiday break. But plant got into a crash and it never happened
Those single finger vibrato's that Page does at 3:18 and 3:21, are absolutely unreal! They sound like he's using a whammy bar! Incredible!
It makes me think that I think he used the lowest gauge strings.
bubhub64 They are great. he is using a Cry Baby pedal though.
grove4mylife he did
grove4mylife He actually only uses Ernie Ball 9-42 gauge strings. Same gauge as what I use.
***** thanks for the info but just cause you use the same strings doesnt mean that you can play like that.
"I can smell the canabis"...
They are by far the coolest, most rock and roll of all time!!!!
Communication breakdown, always the same, having a VOCaL breakdown, drive me insane! Just kidding Plant's voice still sounds great even with those voice cracks!
Well, this was their last song that night... i think it wasn't so easy for him sing this song after 3 hours of live xd
yeah man 3:45 min of singing zep songs, 3 nights in a row is rough, plus he never warmed up, or gave a fuck and partied so. With some editing this could be a remarkable, these whole series of shows in a deluxe boxed set, with booklet, program, posters, audio and DVD would be amaze balls, really their LAST gasp of RAW Zep before the heroin took over and harder drugs really took hold of them
I’m surprised he could sing that well after almost 4 hours. Wow!
Dude, he was clearly cracking up from too much touring. He had a hard time hitting those high notes
They are a class act while still maintaining the hottest sexiest rock n roll band ever.
Jimmy sounds great here, not nearly as sloppy as on the 1977 tour which was due to an extended bout of sleeping sickness. I wish Robert had sung "It's Your Thing" here, but he goes into the Reggae stuff. Still great all around. Thank you for posting.
The Dyer Maker tease is legendary
D'yer Mak'er is actually pronounced "Jamaica". It was a play on words "did you make her" in Jamaica?
Rob/Boston
THE Greatest Band EVER!
Love how Jimmy shakes hands at the end.
The reggae breakdown is unexpected but is greatly welcomed! Sick!
Wow! Jimmy Page..Just awe..damn! There is no other as good as him.. "Keep taking the pills"
The ultimate tight but loose finish to their best gig ever (IMO). 48 years ago today.
Jimmy ‘nice guy’ page. 7:29
Always.
Led Zeppelin kicking ass all over the place a mighty powerful Zeppelin rock and roll they do control
Knebworth 4 /8/79 . Good or what , never seen a band that could beat them and I’ve seen a lot......
I like how jimmy shakes the guys hand at the end
@ClearReact Those two guys were lucky that day ;-;
Mate, I love Jimmy Page!
Jimmy fucking Page
JPJ is the Rock God!
I was there. So strange to be seeing it again nearly 40 years later. Went the Friday night show, their third one, too. I recall someone going to the first show telling me Jimmys Guitar packed up in the opening Rock n Roll which was not a good start, but hey that's show business. RIP Zeppelin
ndwells1 I'd like your comment If you hadnt wrote that Rip. Zepp is eternal,
+ndwells1 I saw them too.

Totally agree 👍👏
Three hours and 41 minutes of pure rock
!!!!!!! ¡
1:29 "I wanna do Communication but no one wants to do it.."
Sounds like he follows up with "It's your thing", the song they jammed in the middle.
That thing in the middle supposed to be dyer maker
No, it's not D'yer Mak'er, it's a cover of "It's Your Thing" by The Isley Brothers. They played that live long before D'yer Mak'er came out, you can even hear it on Communication Breakdown from the BBC Sessions.
1:35 Robert went full savage there.
wow! This is great! And that solo is KICK ASS!
The mighty powerful Zeppelin rules Communication Breakdown it's going to be always the same from Zeppelin all the way
The date The Holy Grail was released, that's so damn cool.
fucking jimmy shaking hands.. epic..
I saw Led Zeppelin in December '71, and after the encores the band came back on stage and signed autographs.
Imagine that happening with ANY band these days.
Rich6Brew
It does. But you have to pay out the ass, for a meet and greet.

Jimmy at his prime! Great solo
"we are trying to think if we had any hits"
wow, this what you call british accent!
The last 20 seconds of this performance is perfect.
Oh man this made my eyes water after all these years.
Nice the medley in the middle with the Isley Brothers song It's Your Thing
I love these guys soo much!!!!!
We have no bread to fly out of the country. Lol!
This is Protopunk in action.
Actually, the year I graduated high school. Still the best!!!
What a JAM!!!!!!
Bonzo twirling the stick at the beginning of the song like he's blinking or something.
Hmm now you know Van Halen " Stole", err ahh got his look from. Straight rip from Page.
I’m sure Eddie was taking notes. If there was no Page and Led Zepp, there would be no Van Halen.
They sound pretty darn great here!
Shew. Robert comes close to rapping here does he not?!
Around 4:30, Jimmy uses the riff he used for Death Wish 2
Fascinating. Thank you for that. Perhaps it might be better stated...the he would he use, eh? 😃
It's your thing, is the song.
I so love this song!
7:03 Bonham falls...
Looks like he was pretending he got shot. Maybe Jason was shooting him as he came off stage
percy is so cute and funny.. and now i know where we i got the jump pic from..
shame is today he'd have groups all pissed saying he was making fun *rolls eyes* ughh..
4:32 Robert singing D'yer Mak'er.
And the riff is also the riff Page used for Death Wish 2
@@pickout2 EXACTLY!
42 years ago today

I was 26 years old when I first saw them. I'm 73 now and love Led Zeppelin.
Robert Worth did you ever take LSD or mushrooms at one of their concerts?
Mosixman no I never did I wouldn't take the chance; too powerful the band. I had two friends leave in the middle of the concert because they couldn't handle the energy. All we smoked was a joint amongst us. drugs we're not needed
Excellent
you're referring to the video footage of this concert in which it only shows half of the concert. the concert was actually 3 hours 45 minutes long and this was one of the encores on the final night at earls court
hey what said plant about bob marley an the wailers, after he said that they were playing por about 3 hours 45 minutes?
6:28 Robert made me laugh. Lol 😂
what does he say exactly?
He said ''I want to be a Jamacian" lol
