I am 71 years old. I saw them ONE WEEK after this show in Seattle WA. on May 9, '69. At the Seattle Aqua Theatre, just about a month before they became world wide stars and tickets became almost impossible to get. They were unlike anything any one in Seattle had ever seen before. I was 16 years old and this changed my life. Had a guitar in hand all these years later. Best show I ever saw. Killed everyone who was there. I saw them later in '69 at the Goldcreek Pop Festival (also in Seattle area) and saw them perform "Whole Lotta Love" for the first time in the whole northwest. Saw every show from '69 till '72, then went on the road myself. Thought I'd say so as my time is getting short. I was there. I saw it. It was the greatest musical event I ever saw.

Thanks for sharing your story Steve, you lived thru what I consider to be the most amazing cultural/societal change in the 20th century and there won't be another like it. We need the stories of those like you who were there and witnessed the "supernova" explosion of rock music that happened in the 60's and 70's. I was there for the second half of that amazing phenomenon but was just a little too young to be there for the emergence of Led Zeppelin and all the other amazing bands that exploded onto the scene during those late 60's.

I like the rawness of early Led Zeppelin. They were still developing their style and perfecting it. They took chances and that is why they stood out from many other bands. Kind of like Hendrix and Jeff Beck they also stood out at that time. Love this stuff.

That rawness is thanks in large part to Jimmy Page playing his Fender Telecaster. The one Jeff Beck gave him from The Yardbirds days. Along with the Echoplex tape delay, that Zeppelin I era tone is all over this song! Real Tele biting edge.

Young Zeppelin blew everyone off the Stage early on in their career! Why? Because they could!
Vanilla Fudge refused to go onstage after Zeppelin opened for them at an early Gig! Because they were getting standing ovations and the audience demanded more!
They quickly became Headliners after doing a few opening slots for more known bands.
But nobody could match their ferocity on stage from the beginning! Because of Bonzos loud drumming, Pages crunch on Guitar, Jones fluid Bass and Plants huge Vocals! They were young, lean and mean and smashed the competition!
    No contest!
Image trying to follow Zeppelin on stage? Impossible! The mighty Zeppelin roared from the Start! Bombastic!
Imagine hearing Communication Breakdown for the first time back then when everyone else was playing long, slow songs! It must’ve been a Shock! Like Punk Rock! 🤘🏻

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac released an incredible song with a lot of this feel sound and riff called 'The Green Manalishi' about six months after this. Judas Priest covered that. These musicians all learned from each other. A good version can be found on Mick Fleetwood's Peter Green tribute CD/DVD with ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons on lead. This version of the song never quite made it onto vinyl which is a shame as it rocks. The early Zeppelin sets were loaded with all sorts of things as they only had one album of their own stuff at that point. Zeppelin would have known the Garnet Mimms version and built on that. great song have a listen. This also added to the imperative to expand the numbers they had. Good example Dazed and Confused. Raw, unpredictable, Powerful, Gritty and Course Strong as anything they've done. Obviously done about the time of their first album (69) So totally I-Beam strong. Page in particular has a sharp sting to his attack very audible here that smoothed a bit with time. Nothing sloppy in his playing here. I don't do drugs but when I cranked this a bit and it can get you a natural high. Takes me back big time.

Hearing this song today in the morning I was let's say "touched". Needless to say: speechless.
Sharing it with all my mates I knew would be able to appreciate this piece. And I did well.
Now I can rest in peace and let the gods do the little things left.
    Paul Brecht I owe you.
    Dankeschön

I've never heard this Zeppelin track before. It has various parts like numerous songs in one. I like it and I am still listening to it. It's almost 10 minutes so they were able to cover a lot of ground.
