In 1969 Zeppelin were still playing small clubs and universities in the UK. I saw them in April 1969 in a hall behind a pub called The Roundhouse in Dagenham, Essex that held about 300 people. The stage was tiny and about two feet high! This was before the second album so their set was most of the first album plus Killing Floor, Train Kept a- Rollin' and Moby Dick. Imagine being a couple of feet away from Zeppelin, the noise was extraordinary. I remember Plant being tall and thin with wild corkscrew hair and Page's guitar hanging down to his knees, I'd never seen anyone playing guitar like that before. They were supported by the wonderful Blodwyn Pig. Six months later the second album came out and the rest is history. Those were great days.

This was 1969, and this is pretty much the first band that melted people's faces. Even by today's standards this is pretty heavy music. Once you add Bonham's brutal drum smashing and Plant's vocal to the refinement of Page and Jones, they all pushed each other over the edge and just melted faces. It's a beautiful thing.

In the 70s audiences were often invited by the TV staging companies..The invites often had no idea of what was in front of them and would dress in formal clothing and sit dead still..

Plant and Bonham barely were out of their teens at this gig. JPJ was 23. Page was 25. Let that sink in. They walked out on that stage that day in front of a dead fish of an audience and produced two mind shattering versions of songs that were 10 years ahead of their time. People talk about how revolutionary Hendrix was and rightfully so. But nothing in rock history compares to early live Led Zep.

In front of that crowd, I admire their perseverance. But I saw them in 1970 in a huge room -- Madison Square Garden. The place was jammed, the crowd was wired, and they were fantastic. So very different from this performance. By then, Jimmy had a wall of Marshall stacks. JPJ also played a Hammond organ for a few songs. Bonham had a few more kit, including double bass drums. Robert played the Garden's massive sound system like an instrument, using more silence to allow the room to echo back like a huge cavern. It was an exciting, mind-blowing experience and no one sat on their hands. We left that hall dazed and confused, and a bit wobbly on the pegs, but feeling like we all had shared something unique and very special. Being part of this huge crowd of freaks walking up 8th Avenue, ears buzzing, with all of us grinning like loonies, I wish that I were 16 again and could do it once more -- like a Groundhog Day moment!

This song is very danceable if you are under the influence of pot or psychedelics and also if you were a youth growing up in 1965 to 1974 where the vibe to dance to this particular song is in your body
All others would not be able to dance to this tune at all but these are the tunes that the hippies learned to dance to
although this song and similar songs by all rock groups may not have a danceable beat the hippies still were able to move fluidly and by going with the flow the hippies were able to dance even to tunes that did not have a danceable beat!
