It's not about the whiskey, it's the people you share it with!

I’ve been waiting for a good batch to get and heard great things about Charlie’s batch. So I picked one up and have to say that it was definitely worth the $90 I paid. The flavors I get from this batch are really a hit for me.
I’m excited to try this batch. I am a Bookers fanboy and have every release since 2019-04. My favorite is the Bardstown Batch! Bookers always gets a bum wrap for it’s price and the ‘variation’ from batch to batch. That is what makes bourbon so subjective. Drink whatever you like!! I will always buy Bookers!! Cheers.
Im a big Bookers fan, I love how different each batch is. My favorite to date is the Pigskin Batch. I recently picked up a Pinkies batch, can’t wait to open and enjoy.
I’ve still got a bit of Pinkies left. Been one of my favorites besides shiny barrel and country ham.
Thank you for this tasting! If I time it right I can pick up Booker’s batches for SRP pretty easily. Really liked Lumberyard, Kentucky Tea, and Ronnie’s last year, and this review makes me eager to snag Charlie’s if I can.
Rewatching this video because I was blessed with a bottle of this and I’m having a pour while comparing with your thoughts on this pour! The nose is awesome! Best nose of the Bookers I’ve had! On the pallet first sip warm next sip very nice! Great flavor and long long finish!!! Only my third batch but definitely the best over my Kentucky Tea and Pinky’s batch! Great review!
I loved Booker's Kentucky Tea Batch so I hope I can locate this batch, it sounds wonderful.
Finally! I’ve been waiting impatiently lol. Thanks for this review!
Was in a trip last week and Charlie’s Batch dropped so bought two.
Gave one as a gift but had to leave mine behind due to travel and space.
Going to have to find it in my state whenever it finally gets here and pick up the other bottle next year.
I was surprised how much I liked the kentucky tea so I will have to check this batch out! Thanks as always for honest real talk about these bottles!!
I enjoy Booker's and found it for $93. My goodness this is a solid batch and worth the buy, but at MSRP. Cheers!
Great review. Agree with your point of so many sourced and younger bourbons going for around the same price. I will get one if I can find it for msrp.
Damn good bottle! I’m gonna go get a pour right now. Cheers 🥃
Another great video Jason! This is a hard choice for me when I can buy a 10 yr knob creek single barrel store pick for around $55-$60 in my area. Cheers!
And Bakers 7. Which is the same thing at a consistent proof
Great review Jason. This is one that I want to see reviewed before I spend the $90.00…. I guess I will have to find it!
Preach! Nailed it about the bourbon market and Bookers!
This is my favorite batch since 2015-1. Great nose, great palate and finish.
Great review, the market has caught up with Booker's! I agree on the Kentucky Tea - it has a sweet and savory component that makes it super easy to sip.
I was lucky to find one. Thanks to a good friend!
Totally agree Jason, the market has finally caught up to Bookers prices. It’s a fair buy now at $90 me thinks.
I got one and can’t wait to get into it.
Looking forward to finding this after your great review.
Bookers is a good value if you like Beam, which I do. If Beam had started charging $90 all along, no one would have an issue.
Good solid review.
I like Bookers and Bakers.
Beam makes solid whiskey, especially the cask strength editions. Sadly, like everything else, the prices keep inching higher and higher.
On the lookout for this one. Hoping to acquire a bottle soon from my local grocery store.
Just another example of how wildly preferences can vary. Granny's batch is my favorite Booker's ever but I can't get enough nuttiness in my bourbon and Granny's batch is like liquid peanut butter. Have three bunkered. I love it.
Picked up Charlie's Batch at Beam distillery shop in early April. Excited to give it a go!
Yeah..like I said...If you like those peanut heavy Bookers, this one may not be for ya. This has that but its pretty sweet. Cheers!
I think when it's a good batch it's worth the $90-$100. But when they miss it's not. Glad you reviewed it so I know to pick one up if I see it. I don't always grab them.
I'm buying Booker's in PA for 99.99 and WV for 110.00. I would up getting four of these. I meant to pass one on to a friend, but he had two show up as his house before I could get one to him. I love this bottle.
Just got "Pinkies Batch", can't wait to get this one!
I love this batch!!!!!!!
When I buy my new bookers it feels special . Like I got something special and unique
I will have to get a bottle of this. Great price for seven year 120+ ABV. Hopefully I can find one.
Jason, I have to give Charlie's Batch a big thumbs up!
JC - as always- good stuff my man. Cheers
I think you called it right. At 90 it's not a great value, but it's not bad compared to others.
Can you say what you do to prepare your palette for tasting? Things you do or things you avoid? Appreciated!
Great vid. I’m a Jim Beam fan for sure.
Nothing crazy. Drink some water to clean my palate and then I'll have a small sip of a 100 proof bourbon as a control to set up my palate. Then review.
@@TheMashandDrum I appreciate it. Thank you!
I can’t say its a “better value” but i think if you know the Bookers profile you are after and that batch offers it, then its worth the buy. That being said , at its current price , Im doing my HW before the purchase. Thanks for the review Jason!
The market has caught up to bookers. Reminds me of Arby's 5 for $5 roast beef sandwich deal, back in the day (the 90s) that was insanely high for some sandwiches. Then, that deal was steal. Now you have to have a coupon to find that deal. So soon Bookers will need a coupon for 90 dollar cask strength whiskey.
Bookers was the hook for me too. Mee Maws batch was excellent as was backyard bbq.
KY Tea was an amazing batch. One of the best bourbons of ‘22. Can’t wait to try Charlie’s.
Grannys batch my favorite 1
The price hurts bookers no matter how you put it. Yes we can be mad at bookers when I can get an ECBP 12 year for $70 and bookers is max of what 7 years? The box is what sells bookers.
Dam great review your making me want to ditch work and run out and get a bottle
Music was too loud at the end drowning out your talking, I’ll buy this batch sounds great!
Nice review and I am interested to try it, but generally I think you are better off with the Knob Creek Reserve or Single Barrel at 9 years, 120 proof or the Knob Creek 12 @ 100 proof. All three are quite a bit cheaper and on the shelf year round.
Yes or Elijah Craig bp at 12 years
And typically better
I like these all, and have them all. This Booker's is better, if you want a full proof bourbon. The dynamic flavor, and the long, great finish is something the others haven't shown me. My go to has been KCSiBs and KC12, and this is clearly a superior product to those this time around.
@@brentworls8509 I just put this bookers up against knob single and its right there with it just depends on your palate and what your looking for far was taste profile
@@MrStreetninja007 Yeah, I had them all three+ the other night, a 9SiB, and two different store picks against the Charlie's... face it. They're all good.
Not sure what it’s like in other parts of the country but here in Florida the retail price even at Walmart which is about a cheap as you will find it is around $110 or at least it was for the last batch I found there which was a few months back.
Agree with your value statement. The rest of bourbon has caught up to Bookers and how long can we really stay mad? Cheers!
I haven't seen a Bookers around $90 in 2 years. Honestly, if I can find it, it's $150 to $200 all day..
Glad you cleared that up! I was thinking it was dedicated to the old Lions and Pittsburgh Steeler QB……… 😏🤣
Yup, just found it at Costco for $80. Sounds like it should be better than my previous bottle (Bardstown Batch) which didn’t impress. Cheers.
I'm considering getting this batch, based somewhat on your logic. When similar aged Squibb stuff is going for $100, Bookers seems to be a better value. And if it's a bit off profile I may like it more.
Granny’s Batch was dope.
If I see a Booker's I buy one of them. I have enjoyed them. The value compared to others, is still there in my opinion
Drove 2.5 hrs paid $87 making off with 3 bottles. Won't be opening these until winter holidays. Faithful to the brand, yep. I've seen other Booker's at $190, but I'll stick to MSRP.
Yes, we can be mad at Bookers. If someone pays $60-$100 or more for 4 year old sourced bourbon, that is their choice, but I never have and never will. That is just craziness. Having said that, I do buy the better Bookers, at MSRP or a bit less. This one I would get. But when you can get ECBP for $69? Is $90 really a fair price? I would say not.
Just bought a bottle for $76.99, the grocery stores always have it discounted in SoCal.
was lucky to find one yesterday for 65 plus tax in indy
Agree $90 is fair. I usually see for $129 now though : /
Booker's Noe Hard Times was my 1st entry into the barrel proof fray, and I'm not to proud to admit I like it but it kicked my butt at the time. Since then, I've always had a special place in my heart, and shelf, for Booker's. Also agree, Granny's has been my by far least favorite Booker's I've ever had.
Just got this the other day and it’s a lot better than Pinkies. Cheers
Had to tell K&B to take the Old Ritter off my order, they didn't have it and didn't know when, and they've been holding the shipping for a month. Bummer, the YS is the one I wanted most of the 3.
Concerning the price, think abut all the finished products out there. NULU, Four Gate, Starlight, Kings County the list goes on. Most over $100.
I saw one today in a case for 169 albany ny
I love Booker's but sometimes some KC SiB and Baker's 7 SiB can be better and $30 cheaper
In my opinion, Kentucky Tea is STILL my favorite of the past couple of years. It is definitely off profile and does not drink it's proof. I only wish I had bought more of it. It's just hard firking over $100 for multiple bottles that I actually drink. At $90, Booker's will always have a place on my shelf. Along with ECBP, Larceny BP, 1792 BIB Single Barrel, Russel's Reserve, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Baker's 7 year (which is actually 8 years 8 months) and old Brown-Forman black plastic cap Early Times BIB.
My uncle bought me kentucky tea for my graduation gift. I loved it so much. Gives me that good o kentucky hug.
I hope it pours as good as the Kentucky Tea
Did you ever do a review on 2022-04?
Your reviews are highly informative and entertaining Jason! This was my first bookers and I tried the Noe Strangers before but wasn’t a fan. I blinded Charlie’s against barrel strength Michters, Old forester, and Four roses. Surprisingly it came in second, which is a Win in my book!
I can see that. Charlies Batch comes off a bit more rounded. I will have to test it in a blind.
Jason, what’s your promo code for Magic Spoon? Can’t find it in recent videos
If you do want to try one that doubles down on peanut shells and peanut butter, is there a good batch for that?
Granny's batch
Granny’s batch is pure peanuts to me. But, as they open up I find that peanut turns into peas. Like green peas. I taste it all the time now.
For the proof and sustained quality, the price is good for the bourbon. I can't find it for anything less than $100 in NorCal, but I don't mind if the UA-camrs and friends I trust recommend a certain Booker's batch.
Bookers went up in price the last batch here in Florida it's now around 109
It’s almost always low 100’s here in Los Angeles
I totally agree! I’m all for a Bookers for $90 or $100. Still a great bourbon
Nice comparison! Price isn’t bad but I prefer my Knob Creek 12yr and my Baker’s 7 for 55-60 bucks!
Saw a Bakers 7 at Total Wine today with a 8 yr 2 month age on the neck label.
@@jamessocal8946 nice! I have a 7 yr 3 month and a 8 yr 9 months both are awesome! Cheers!
At first, years ago....no.....with Today's pricing...Booker's has caught up
I haven’t seen a bottle of Bookers in maybe 7+ years
Nice review. Your audio at the end is jacked up, though. The music drowns you out for the last minute of the video or so
I would pay $90 bucks but here where I am it's $120.
I think the market pricing caught up to bookers pricing since the market is still crazy
What’s MGP National Barell Company?
How does that compare to Russell's Reserve?
Beggars can't be choosers in the UK. I'll take what's given.
I've never seen EC 18 or EHT single barrel or Eagle Rare 17, so if I see Bookers I'm going to buy it.
My first and only Bookers was Granny's Batch and it blew me away, only to see it be poorly reviewed.
Well if that is as bad as it gets, I'm IN!
Just found some for £72 ($90)
and ordered all 3 they had.
Don't even know what batch it is. Retailers here don't seem to know the significance of batches, to even bother telling you.
If it is as bad as Granny's Batch, I'll be suitably satisfied. 🥃😋
Kentucky Tea was my first bottle of Booker’s and came in at MSRP. I really like it. Would love to find Charlie’s Batch.
I got peanut brittle from this one
I think there is a lot worse bourbon selling for over $100 right now. I think more of these good bourbons should raise their prices. Maybe it wouldn't be that hard to find.
You are right on the mark! So many people pay 100 plus for sourced crap in fancy bottles, Blanton's, and even eagle rare believe it or not but bitch about 90-100 for Bookers....mind boggling if you ask me.
I have no problem with the price point. I would spend that easily.
What about Baker's? How does it compare to an older 8yr ish Baker's?
I saw it for $125 and passed. 🥃
I do really like Booker's, batches are always different some good some not so good unfortunately. If price exceeds one hundred, It won't be the automatic Buy that it is today from me atleast
So, my 1st bottle ever that I truly "got" was an ECBP circa 2018 so ECBP is and will always be a go to for me.
1st Bookers was good, but $25 more for 51/2 years less aging??
Bookers tends to be decent, but a far lower value than any ECBP, at least for me. Don't regret either Bookers I've purchased, but I will never pass on an ECBP for one. Ever
Harder to justify the price when you can get a 9-10 yr Knob high proof for 60.
Lower proof but Bakers can be 8-9 years too.
anyone said 90 for bookers is not worth it is just nostalgic for the price. Also, its just 30 bucks bump, barely a dinner lately, so I think it's mostly because they cant have so they decide to be haters lol
We can still be mad because bottom line it’s not as good as the knob creek line which is less money in general
I think people get fixated on getting a 9 yr KC at 120 proof for $40 less.
How was tagalong
It’s really not a bad price for cask strength, 7 year bourbon. You can spend A LOT more for younger, lower proof stuff.
Not when you got Elijah Craig 12 year BP for 30$ less
@@MrStreetninja007 that gap is not that big in the Chicago area, and I agree ECBP is a better value. You can do much worse than Booker’s though.
@@Bill.K. it's just hard to justify charging that much for something that is not even 9 years old when you can turn around and buy a Knob Creek Single Barrel
@@Bill.K. and I have Charlie's batch and it was okay but I believe I will settle for Elijah Craig
@@MrStreetninja007 ECBP is $90 in SC now. Sucks but that’s just the way it is.
I think it’s factual in 2023 to say ECBP is an outlier in pricing.
Was with you until the Granny’s Batch slander! 😂 who doesn’t want a nut bomb to the face??
Hahahaha. Too much nut for me. Lol
Granny’s batch is what sent me into a hunting/bunkering frenzy because I found it a year late. I went crazy for granny’s batch. But I think I like Charlie’s much more….oh no, this will be expensive.
My mother's a 1/4 Scottish so I sometimes mix brouben with gin, it helps mellow out some of the sweet bitter taste.
Sounds good but I’m done with Bookers. $110 to $120 now before tax for Charlie’s batch. So much Bourbon and Scotch is so overpriced for me now for the same juice. I get it inflation happens but some pricing hikes is just out of hand.
$110 for this one, everyone is price gouging. Cost hasn't increased that much- about 7% on avg but this should not translate into 100% markup.
45ish year olds....almost needing readers unite for bigger cards. (I turn 46 this month and I think Jason is about the same.)
Lol. Yep
