I am fortunate to have them all in my 175 Bottle collection that started about 40 years ago. I was glad to see OF 1920 on the list. You saved the best for last. I only pay normal retail for bourbon. I have several bottles that were purchased only about 7 years ago for under $40.00 that are now impossible to find such as Rock Hill Farms and Elmer T. Lee. There is no reason to chase allocated bourbons when there are so many good bourbons under $60.00 that are on the shelf everyday. Great List!

I know its been a while , but …Was wandering if any bottles over the years in your collection , does the bourbon change at all over the years . I mean would a nice bourbon save for 10 yrs . Say at 1/3 a bottle left ?
@@m.ramsey6396 The bourbon will definitely change over time depending on how much air is in the bottle, how long it has been, the temperature it is stored at and how good a seal you have. If you have a bottle that is 2/3 full and is only a year old it is probably like new. A 1/3 full bottle a few years old is much different than when it was first opened. If you have a small amount of a bourbon that you want to keep intact, put it in a smaller bottle.
Started collecting less than 2 years ago and have acquired 40 bottles so far (about 2 a month on a limited budget). I was pleased to find that I have 7 of your 10 selections. Learning more as I continue the journey. Thanks for your content.

I loved watching this because I have a list of “10 Bourbons to start with” that I made to share with friends getting into bourbon. I got my list as I watched and 7 of them were exactly the same. It’s great your $400 list had exactly 10. The three that were different were: you had Makers 46, EH Taylor SB (still hard to find in N Texas), and G Remus (I have a full proof GR that I love). My three that were different that I had were: WT Rare Breed (nothing wrong with 2 Turkey’s), 1792 Small Batch, and Regular Buffalo Trace. Great list for people starting to learn about bourbon. I tell them to subscribe to your channel too and they will pick up a lot. Cheers 🥃
I started Bourbon hunting 3 months ago. So far I have a buffalo trace store pick, a trails end 8 year, eagle rare, Breckenridge reserve blend, and an EH Taylor small batch. So excited to see what I hunt next

A+ video brother! There’s a reason you’re the best whiskey tuber. I love that Blantons was on the list too haha! The truth is the story and marketing of the horsey top starts a lot of people on their bourbon journey. Cheers my man!
Great video Jason! Initially, I'm thinking, holy crap $400 for a starter bourbon collection. But, realizing the cost of bourbon these days, that's a lot of great bottles to start a collection. Great line up. Cheers
As a relative new bourbon drinker (Covid 19 hobby/obsession) l've had bottles of 7 of the 11. Of those, there is just one that l keep in the rotation; Old Forester 1920 (available & delicious). I've been augmenting/ rotating that with whatever my local bottle shop has available; Baker's 7 year, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Noah's Mill & 4 Rose's single barrel. The point being for me; 2 bottles in the house are enough.
Great Video! I would love to see this series expanded with a video for Intermediate collectors(adding in some rye whiskey, store picks, BP etc). Then after that a video for the serious collector!
Just getting into bourbon, great videos, wish I watched this before some of the buys. I started with: 1. Makers 2. Bulleit 3. Woodford double oaked 4. OF1910 5. 4 roses small batch select 6. Rare breed 7. Hudson's baby bourbon (not good!) 8. Kirklands small batch (lol) 9. Elijah Craig toasted (this is what got me into bourbon, delicious!) 10. Buffalo Trace 11. EHT small batch 12. Blantons - found one yesterday luckily
That's a very nice list! Don't laugh too hard at that Kirkland's bottle, it's made in the Barton 1792 Distillery. It's actually a solid pour. Try Evan Williams Single Barrel, its a cheap bottle but it's a total gem! Also if you have a few bucks I received a bottle of Joseph Magnus as a gift...WOW! What a bourbon! sooo good!
This is probably my favorite bourbon video. What a great list. I’m glad I have a few of these bottles in my beginner bourbon collection. Very educational.
Great list. I've enjoyed most of those bottles. I was rather surprised you didn't include Buffalo Trace in your list. I know you enjoy that and it has great availability at a reasonable price.
This is a fantastic idea and a great list! Only additions/changes I would suggest would be maybe a barrel proof (like ECBP), a store pick, and a rye (I understand it’s a bourbon list, but I certainly wish I gave rye a chance earlier in my journey). Either way, great video!
Very helpful video to assist in my new found hobby. Thank you for making this great and insightful content. It is exactly what I was looking for and will help me out a lot.
I will now have to look even harder for G. Remus to complete these 11. It was next on my list anyway but nowhere nearby. Loved the video. Will forward to others.
Thank you for putting Four Roses Single Barrel on the list. I bought a bottle of it on a whim last year, and have been loving it ever since. It costs about $50 here in Oregon. I have been pining to try Old Forester 1920. After this vid, it's top of the list. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked isn't available at one store in this state...there's far more Blanton's available out here. I will stay local with Woodinville Straight Bourbon.
That’s interesting, I see Woodford Double Oaked pretty consistently around Portland liquor stores. Where are you seeing Blantons? Would love to pick one up, been a couple years since I’ve seen it.
This is fantastic. Not only are picks really solid choices, but loved the consideration of the history and stories behind each of these selections. This really shows your passion for the history of this beloved spirit, and the enjoyment you get passing that along to others. I can appreciate the research that must have went into this particular video and kudos to the presentation of this interesting information, all while keeping it under 30 minutes. Great work...thank you :)
Thank you! Been drinking Bulleit for years and decided this year to branch out and explore. I buy one bottle at a time, and this video will save me so much time as I hunt around for my perfect bourbon.
Blanton's. "Yea, I said it" Hahahaha. I do love that stuff but I don't search for it anymore, so it's been a good long while since I've had any. That's a solid line up to be sure. They're all very good.

I haven't seen a bottle of E.H.Taylor on the shelves in my area since late 2018. Early 2019 for Eagle Rare. I still have one bottle of each on the shelf, but they're both running low. I'm surprised you don't have a little jazz drum kit set up in the corner though. When do we get to see the music room?
Eagle Rare was my introduction to bourbon about 10 years ago and it was about all that I drank for years. I only learned within the last year or two that it was allocated, so I have moved on to other equally good options.
The collection is GREAT. My only issue is that E.H. Taylor and Eagle Rare are allocated in my arear. To hard to get a hold of. I love the list still. tried most of them...
I started my bourbon journey about a month ago and love this channel. I have learned so much in that short amount of time. I hope to start my collection soon, already have Knob Creek and going on the hunt for more. Thanks for the channel!
I started about a month ago. My 450 dollar list is 1. Eagle Rare 2. Angels Envy Finished Rye 3. Buffalo trace Kentucky whisky 4. Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof 5. Weller special Reserve 6. Angels envy Kentucky whisky 7. Four Roses small batch select 8. Four roses single barrel 9 Woodford reserve double Oaked These are the first bottles purchased in my collection.
9:35 I'm a scotch drinker, new to bourbon. Eagle Rare has been my first favorite, but contrary to your comment at 10:19, it has not been easy for me to find. I'm hoarding an unopened bottle while I try some others. This is an excellent, very informative video. I'd like to see you do one that lists brands that are easy enough to find that I don't have to be afraid to choose one as a daily sip. Incidentally, George Remus is a minor hero of mine. An experienced trial lawyer, he studied the Volstead Act intensively, and probably knew it better than anyone else in the country. It's hard to draft legislation that does what the authors want it to do, as evidenced by Volstead and Remus.
I've got another bourbon for that extra eight dollars - Old Crow (assuming you can find a liter bottle on sale). It's technically historic (although almost certainly not the same recipe that Mark Twain was drinking back in the day). Mostly, it's a surprisingly decent bottom-shelf bourbon. A 375ml of Henry McKenna regular also squeezes under the eight dollar limit, and tastes pretty good for one of the cheapest bourbons you can buy!
Started bourbon hunting about 6 months ago and I have all of these bottles. I am such a happy camper🥹 this was a great history breakdown as well. Going to study this for insight when drinking with friends!
Love the list, I just started collecting bourbon about 8months ago and have been watching your channel and a few others (bourbon junkies, ADHD whiskey and The deathless dogs) for tips on what to buy and I am happy to say I have every bottle in this list except the George Remus, I haven't been able to find that but I'm still looking! Loved this video and everything you put out, please keep them coming :)
Excellent list! Lots of great bourbons in there. I’m still new to bourbons and am learning new things every day. Gathering good bourbons to share, you want them all, right now! Haha! As a friend told me, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint”. I stumbled across Eagle Rare at a Target near me just yesterday. Guy was opening the box as I rounded the corner to the liquor aisle. Cheers!
I have 9 put of the 11 you mentioned were I am there all about $5 dollars more but a solid list very helpful especially when you mention the price point . like buffalo traces is $12 dollars more since February 2022 started were I live.
Definitely a solid start. The Remus is the only one I haven’t gotten to try yet. At $47, Blantons is a damn good pour. At the current going price of $80+, it’s robbery with 1920 readily available for $60. The knob creek is also very slept on. I’ve had the good fortune to do a barrel pick with knob creek abs even have the barrel select box of uncut samples. A great 12-15 kc sbs for $60 at 120 proof is a steal imo. One of my all time favorite bottles at that price point.
Great episode! I would love to see a similar episode for "American Whiskey" that includes a collection of bottles for things such as TN Whiskey, Rye, and American malt whiskey.
I recently started learning and collecting whiskey and I am excited to see that I have all these bottles except the Remus, Maker 46 and 4 roses high rye. Makes me feel good about my journey so far. Also, I learned that I really like a sweet wheated bourbon, such as Weller. Which means maker 46 here I come! Thanks again for the great video and content. Love this type of history/educational videos. Cheers!
I started with jack in the college days but when I got serious I was in Colorado and w ent with Breckinridge rum cask and the powder hound. Then I’d say 1792 and some random companies winter style blends that warm you up. Now I always have 1792, rare breed, makers 46, and Russell’s 10yr
This is a great list! If you can't find George Remus in your area, I think 1792 Small Batch would be a good replacement since I don't think there was anything from Barton on the list.
Great first list. Do this at one store to get in with them and the next 400 you spend there is hopefully on a higher tier of allocated products they offer to you.

After watching couple of your videos I finally tried and ABSOLUTELY LOVED and it is my new daily drinker. Absolutely delicious and for 30$ 1.75 l bottle. You can't beat the value.
Great video! My List, will start with each Big Distillery (apologies to MGP)
Wild Turkey: WT 101 $22
Beam: Knob Creek Sib $45
Buffalo Trace: EH Taylor SB $40
Brown Foreman: Old Forester 1920 $50
Heaven Hill: ECBP $65
George Dickle: Dickle BiB 11 year $35
Four Roses: Four Roses SB Select $55
Jack Daniels: Jack Daniels SBBP $55
Makers Mark: Makers Mark BP $35
A+ video brother! There’s a reason you’re the best whiskey tuber. I love that Blantons was on the list too haha! The truth is the story and marketing of the horsey top starts a lot of people on their bourbon journey. Cheers my man!
I am one of those people and it will always have room in my heart
@@SmokeybeardAB same! Cheers!
Great starting point. Most are accessible, a few are allocated here in VA but come around often enough. It's just enough to get the hunting bug.
This is your best video. One of the best on UA-cam in regards to bourbon. Good job man.
Great Video! I would love to see this series expanded with a video for Intermediate collectors(adding in some rye whiskey, store picks, BP etc). Then after that a video for the serious collector!
On it!
And the crowd goes...
... for another sip!
+1 to this request!
Just getting into bourbon, great videos, wish I watched this before some of the buys. I started with:
1. Makers
2. Bulleit
3. Woodford double oaked
4. OF1910
5. 4 roses small batch select
6. Rare breed
7. Hudson's baby bourbon (not good!)
8. Kirklands small batch (lol)
9. Elijah Craig toasted (this is what got me into bourbon, delicious!)
10. Buffalo Trace
11. EHT small batch
12. Blantons - found one yesterday luckily
Just curious? How much did you pay for your bottle of blantons
Glad you picked Makers 46. Regular Makers is so blah, but basically everything else they make is wonderful. 46 is a great pour
ECBP is now marked up to $200 here😡
Very helpful video to assist in my new found hobby.
I really like Woodinville....very tasty.
That’s interesting, I see Woodford Double Oaked pretty consistently around Portland liquor stores. Where are you seeing Blantons? Would love to pick one up, been a couple years since I’ve seen it.
Your whiskey room and layout is very impressive Jason! I'll have to steal some of your ideas to build my own some day!👍
Great list, and the only bottle I would add is Buffalo Trace. Like Wild Turkey and Knob Creek 9, it's a great value.
I didn't realize i had a 400$ collection minus Remus one. Nice
Blanton's. "Yea, I said it" Hahahaha. I do love that stuff but I don't search for it anymore, so it's been a good long while since I've had any. That's a solid line up to be sure. They're all very good.
Great video as usual, loved the view of your massive collection but you knocked me out my chair with Blantons 🤣🤣🤣...cheers.
I know I know. Its historical and that's why. Lol.
@@TheMashandDrum I am glad you did. It's the second bourbon I fell in love with. Scored a bottle in Tennessee 2 weeks ago. I still like it no matter what anyone says but thanks to your channel, I also discovered Russell's 10 year, Wild Turkey 101 and Eagle Rare and Evan William's Single barrel
If UA-cam translated this for Canadian viewers it would be titled "The Perfect $1,500 Bourbon Collection for Hardcore Hunters"
more like 750,,,come on..lol
geez, I know. $35 for WT 101 here.
Bring me a case of Caribou Crossing and we can work something out. You can find the whole list at retail any day of the week minus the BT products.
As a Canadian, I can confirm this to be true.
Here in Oz that collection is just over $1000.00.
But the sharing with friends and family is well worth it.
Bravo sir 👏👏👏 absolutely love videos like this. Extremely informative and this is a great start to ANY collection
Great selection and it's about time that BLANTON'S got some luv along with other Buffalo Trace offerings....💯😎😊😊😊😊
I haven't seen a bottle of E.H.Taylor on the shelves in my area since late 2018. Early 2019 for Eagle Rare. I still have one bottle of each on the shelf, but they're both running low. I'm not sweating it though,.. I gave up on Buffalo Trace products last year. If I see them I'll pick one up, but I'm not about to go searching for them.
Your whiskey room looks SO classy,... I'm surprised you don't have a little jazz drum kit set up in the corner though.
When do we get to see the music room?
The music room is under construction. Lol. Painting and adding acoustic panels.
Eagle Rare was my introduction to bourbon about 10 years ago and it was about all that I drank for years. I only learned within the last year or two that it was allocated, so I have moved on to other equally good options.
Same here in central florida. No blantons, EH taylor, eagle rare .
Thanks buddy. Glad your enjoying the content.
I have everything but the Remus. I'll have to pick that one up. Love the whiskey room. Very nice.
I started about a month ago. My 450 dollar list is
1. Eagle Rare
2. Angels Envy Finished Rye
3. Buffalo trace Kentucky whisky
4. Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof
5. Weller special Reserve
6. Angels envy Kentucky whisky
7. Four Roses small batch select
8. Four roses single barrel
9 Woodford reserve double Oaked
These are the first bottles purchased in my collection.
This is not easy to find....at all. In NC anyway, it's virtually impossible to find. By far, one of my favorite bourbon.
This is a solid list. I prefer the 1910 and haven’t tried Remus yet though
Cheers!
Great video! As a beginner I am really enjoying your brand- keep 'em rolling!
I’ve had all but the Remus. All great pours. Probably the best obtainable list I’ve ever seen! 🤙🏼
Solid list!
Retailers will mark the Blantons up to almost $200 and the EHT to $175. There is a great app to use while bourbon hunting to see msrp.
Surprised not to see a bottle of bullet on this list. Very under rated bourbon that punches above its weight class in price and quality
Started two months ago. Have all but Taylor, Woodford, and Eagle Rare. Having fun with it
Great episode! I would love to see a similar episode for "American Whiskey" that includes a collection of bottles for things such as TN Whiskey, Rye, and American malt whiskey.
James P. Ripy, Thomas’ brother, owned Old Hickory Springs. Thomas (T.B.) never owned it but his sons eventually did. 👍 Enjoyed it, Jason! 🥃🦃
Cheers!
What a great video for collectors who want a quality base!
Great story behind each bottle, well done!!
“THAT’S RIGHT I SAID IT!” Damn good list and favorite line in some time, haha
Great first list. Do this at one store to get in with them and the next 400 you spend there is hopefully on a higher tier of allocated products they offer to you.
