Thanks for showing your mistakes and not just trying to look perfect all the time. Life’s about learning from your errors. Awesome work
I try to show my screw ups when possible! Everyone makes them!
@@MyDIYAdventures Some of us make more than others. I can teach you what not to do, again. I am really good at it. 😜
😂
Remind the masons to add 1.5 inches to their measurements when doing that; then they’ll mark where they should
Great video! Lots of helpful info. I think remodels/additions can be so much more challenging than just a new build because of tricky details on how to connect the two structures. We decided to demolish our old house and build a new one but reused the existing foundation which has created some unique challenges.
Yeah, remodels are usually more involved…and that means there’s more money to be made in remodeling!
Thank you so much I’m actually getting ready to do something similar, this helped!
Thanks for watching!
Nice job on the garage framing, like the ink on your forearm as well !
Thanks! I’ve been thinking maybe I should wear long sleeves but now I think maybe not!
@@MyDIYAdventures No need to cover what we should all be seeing
This is exactly what I'm going to do. Mine has a couple twists to it. I want to go 2' higher and 2' wider but only on one side.
That’s an easy build! You got this!👍
Great job man!! Keep it up it keeps you young💪
I dunno man, I’m feeling pretty old lately!
Great job.
Thanks!
Looks good
Thanks! The customer really loved it after I took the wall out!
Looks good for what you had to work with!
Thanks! I did go back and do the breakthrough for the guy, but I didn’t get any video because he was “helping” the whole time LOL
Great work! Want to do this to my garage. I gotta say you sound just like Michael Keaton. Lol
I’m Batman!
Thank you. I am interested in hearing more about how you tied the two gable rafters together at the existing wall. Maybe it is straightforward, but I am interested. It looks like you exposed and matched the existing gable rafter with a new rafter at the same pitch? Did you sister them together with lag screws? And it looks like there's a bottom board underneath the length of the new rafter? Thank you again. I am planning something nearly identical to this. Great video and super helpful.
I cut the overhang off the existing garage and matched the pitch of the roof. Since the new garage was taller, the new rafters had a small gap below them, so I added a ripped down 2x4 to cover that gap. So I couldn’t lag the new rafters to the old since they didn’t line up.
I was thinking of a diy garage enlargement on my home's 3/4 acre lot with long driveway. Did you have any zoning laws to deal with?
Yes, I believe the township where this was built required building, zoning, and health department permits, and a check for flood plain.
Not sure if you mentioned it but what was the total cost im looking to tie into my home and do like 16wide by 20ish long already have 8inch concrete slab
I’m not sure of the total, I framed this for a contractor
hello, do you plan to install a set of 4K security camera system in your building? The details i had messaged you in INS, please note to check and give me some feedbacks if you are interested in. Thanks
Did you remove the old garage wall...what did you use to support the roof
Yes, I went back after the garage door was installed and removed about 12’ of the wall. The roof didn’t need supported because it wasn’t a load bearing wall.
@@MyDIYAdventures ok so I put a 6 foot addition on my gable end of my garage...and someone told me that I cannot take out the center stud... would this be the case
Is it holding up the ridge of a cathedral ceiling?
@@MyDIYAdventures I did the same side of the garage as you...but mine was 6 x 20
Without seeing it, I couldn’t tell you for sure
How much did your addition cost?
I’m not sure of the total cost, I framed this for a contractor.
I have a real question.. (Perhaps your not to this part yet) Why aren't you using H straps and truss plates ?
Not needed by code here.
@@MyDIYAdventures that makes me wonder, how it effective are those straps if it isn't code all the time.
I’ve always thought that also.
How much did you charge for this one?
Just in labor I made a couple grand.
What’s an estimated cost for this project
The contractor I built this for probably charged $20k+ for the whole garage
Did you do it all by yourself
Yepper!
What did you charge for that addition?
@faukstain3042 I’m not sure what the total cost was to the customer, but the contractor paid me a couple grand for framing it.
If we want to hire you, where are you located?
That’s classified….
If your going to make videos you really need to make them longer and with more detail like show more on how you do the roof and tie into things do it right if not then there’s no point of doing any videos when there short and shows a very small amount of what and how you did things
Thanks for your input…from now on, I’ll just recommend everyone check out your videos.
