    Remind the masons to add 1.5 inches to their measurements when doing that; then they’ll mark where they should

    Great video! Lots of helpful info. I think remodels/additions can be so much more challenging than just a new build because of tricky details on how to connect the two structures. We decided to demolish our old house and build a new one but reused the existing foundation which has created some unique challenges.

      Yeah, remodels are usually more involved…and that means there’s more money to be made in remodeling!

    This is exactly what I'm going to do. Mine has a couple twists to it. I want to go 2' higher and 2' wider but only on one side.

    Thank you. I am interested in hearing more about how you tied the two gable rafters together at the existing wall. Maybe it is straightforward, but I am interested. It looks like you exposed and matched the existing gable rafter with a new rafter at the same pitch? Did you sister them together with lag screws? And it looks like there's a bottom board underneath the length of the new rafter? Thank you again. I am planning something nearly identical to this. Great video and super helpful.

    • @MyDIYAdventures
      @MyDIYAdventures  Рік тому

      I cut the overhang off the existing garage and matched the pitch of the roof. Since the new garage was taller, the new rafters had a small gap below them, so I added a ripped down 2x4 to cover that gap. So I couldn’t lag the new rafters to the old since they didn’t line up.

    I was thinking of a diy garage enlargement on my home's 3/4 acre lot with long driveway. Did you have any zoning laws to deal with?

    • @MyDIYAdventures
      @MyDIYAdventures  Рік тому

      Yes, I believe the township where this was built required building, zoning, and health department permits, and a check for flood plain.

    Did you remove the old garage wall...what did you use to support the roof

    • @MyDIYAdventures
      @MyDIYAdventures  27 днів тому

      Yes, I went back after the garage door was installed and removed about 12’ of the wall. The roof didn’t need supported because it wasn’t a load bearing wall.

    If your going to make videos you really need to make them longer and with more detail like show more on how you do the roof and tie into things do it right if not then there’s no point of doing any videos when there short and shows a very small amount of what and how you did things
