i like how you did the rafters you put some in first then the board in the middle
That’s a really easy way to set the ridge board when the garage is so tiny…it won’t work on a big 2x8 rafter.
I love solo builds. Thanks for making the video.
Hey, thanks for watching it!
great build
Thank you!!!!
Awesome job man
Thanks!
Bravo!
Grazie!
super helpful. i have really bent anchor bolts and didnt know which tool to use to straighten them.
It’s definitely a less damaging way than beating them straight with a hammer, that method can blow out the concrete.
Satisfying to see a building grow by the minute :) Do you also build houses?
I did a few in the past with a crew, but not anymore.
Thank You..looks like northern ohio to me
Well that is eerily accurate!😳
i was thinking New Jersey.
🤔🤔🤔
Great job man! I’m building a 24X24 garage but not sure on what size for the headers
Usually a doubled up 11 1/4” LVL for a 16’ door. If you’re pulling a permit, the building inspector should be able to tell you what you need.
Wow 24 minutes is not a long video. I'm used to watching mustie1 or Teryl fixes all. It would be okay with me if you made them an hour long that would work then for my lunch hour.
I have longer videos
Wish you would have a up high view when you build the rafters
I agree, I’ve tried to figure out how to pull that off…every job is different, so maybe the opportunity will present itself when I get back at it in the spring.
Do you ever use pre built rafters? That’s pretty common where I live
Yep! But rafters are still cheaper, so we really only use trusses in circumstances that don’t warrant rafters. Here’s a video of an idiot trying to set giant trusses alone:

Question: does it matter if wall sheathing sits on concrete foundation or “hangs” over it?
It doesn’t matter, but you should avoid it touching the actual concrete if you can.
Try to post this question earlier, don’t see it posted so:
Does it matter if wall sheathing sits on top of foundation or “hangs” over? Also, did I miss or did you level the ridge as you placed it? I saw you plumb it. Just trying to learn thanks! 😁
The wall sheathing shouldn’t matter, just try to keep it from contacting the concrete. As for the ridge, it automatically sits level because it is in line with all the rafters.
Dude! You're a framing machine! Just stumbled onto your channel, been learning a lot from you, where are you located? I'm in SW MI, just curious if some of your comments about local code are applicable to my area. I'm not sure where to find out what code is in my area, maybe you speak to that in one of your videos I haven't seen yet?
I’m not terribly far from Michigan, and you can check this for building codes up.codes/codes/michigan
@@MyDIYAdventures Thank you very much for the link, I'll certainly take a look.
What size were you rafters and Ridge board? They look like 2x8
2x6 rafters, 2x8 ridge
how are you squaring the wall just by EYE?
I plumb the walls in on a square slab and everything falls into place.
why the vented discs on the woodburner ?
They’re just old brake rotors, I use them as a heat sink.
I see some tips from the Handyman made it to your shop lol
The rotors?😃
@@MyDIYAdventures lol, yep and the mod on the boxfans.
I contend that I had the box fan filters first!☝️
That smell of freshly cut lumber...life is great!
Can’t beat it!👍👍👍
Lookin good. So how much would you charge to come down here and do that? A rough estimate is fine.. jk
Well the first one is free of course! LOL
Do you have an estimated cost of the project?
I don’t, the bulk of these builds I make videos of are for a contractor and I rarely am in possession of the contract. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was $20k once it was finished.
What size is this solo garage ?
12’x20’
