  • In this edition I go over broadly the strengths and weaknesses off all the units in the game. I don't look at each individual army and it's units but how roughly each "kind" of unit is designed to work. This video will help define my terms when I start doing army composition.

    really helpfull guides, all kinds of insight and ways of looking at things that i would never have been able to find out by myself.
    if you charge with chariots or other heavy mounts that are bad in sustained fights. is it better to right click behind the enemy so they go through the unit and can run away there or is it best to right click them andafter evertone has charged run away where you came from?

    @Omnis I actually think a thinner line is best. I ran an experiment where I had 5 men deep engage a unit of sword, and the sword infantry started wrapping around the sides and disrupting the phalanx, and the pikes lost. I then took the exact same units, and changed it to 3 men deep, so they were spread slightly thinner than the opposing sword. The wrapping around problem no longer happened, the pike phalanx was able to maintain structure, and they won. Of course, if you're against sword infantry that maintain formation, and don't wrap around, then yeh, a deeper formation would be best.

    Loved the vid ... subbed .... but i've got to agree with other about the phalanx units, only way to break them is through a HUGE numbers advantage(and i mean 20:1 or more with the more specialised units like spartans) or by outmaneuvering them.

    I have a criticism here, that pikes are not at all like spears. Pikes are great against heavy and very heavy infantry. These definitely deserved their own section, not lumped in with spears.

    Awesome! What greek city state do you think has the best passive buffs? And/or units? F.eg I would love to play as Sparta but they don't seem to have much else than spear inf and they -10% from commercial/industrial buildings really turn me off....Pehaps Epirus and Athene have more variation speaking unit wise?

    For filming I basically run in ultra cause I want about 35-40 fps just so if it does drop I have some small buffer. Soon I will be upgrading my graphics card so extreme will be the normal then.

    I wanted to do any units that were more then one faction. As far as I could tell war dogs are only Roman so I decided to skip them. If you wanted to know war dogs are another type of shock unit. They are best used against flanks that have already been engaged in combat. They should not be used as front line troops. As for 2v2 I have yet to try any but I think I will try some in the next few days.

  • @Hylorchannel
    @Hylorchannel  10 років тому

    I could have done dogs of war but since they are basically a shock unit for only one faction I left them out. I want my guides to focus on all factions if I can. Dogs of war should just be used like most other shock units where engaging from the front or back while a unit is already engaged is best.

    What do you recommend for the Iceni Chariots?

  • @IvarWede

    The word you're looking for is "Cavalry", not "Calvary".

  • @CStone-xn4oy

    Why would you bring Chariots when Shock Cavalry fill the same role with more flexibility and better staying power?

  • @Omnis2

    Swords and axes can't break a deep spear phalanx and will get destroyed by a pike phalanx. The only way to counter a pike phalanx is to outmaneuver it. and attack its flanks or rear.
    Axes are best against heavily armored units, but will usually drop like flies if attacked first. Send them to soften the enemy line before engaging your main battle line.
    You forgot about War Dogs too. Keep them leashed and send them at archers or the first unit that wavers, and watch the rest of the army rout.

    It really depends on your play style to be honest. Epirus probably has some of the best for growth but you start with Sparta at war and Macedon will likely attack first end of turn. (I would pay top dollar my first turn for a NAP with Macedon so I can focus on Sparta and my northern border.) Seeing that atm naval battles are pretty bad and unbalanced I wouldn't got Athens. If not Sparta then IMHO Epirus or Macedon but if I start one it will be Epirus for the challenge.

    Well CA posted this: wiki.totalwar(dot)com/w/Using_Total_War_Gameplay_Footage
    So I am just going by that for now. I don't monetize my videos at all so for now it's just for fun and I might as well pay them respects cause it's their game. My rig specs are:
    Intel i5-3570K @3.40ghz (soon I will overclock)
    GTX 570 (soon I will get a 770)
    16 gig DDR3
    120gig SSD 500+ read and write
    running two 22" but I am getting a 24" for 1080p recording

  • @Hylorchannel
    @Hylorchannel  11 років тому

    Huh?! That's totally odd. I am assuming it's because it's been optimized for my card more then the 660. I have no idea other then that what it may be except I run with unlimited memory cause it just taps into a spare 8 gigs I have sitting on the board.
