You can also identify unit types from their icons/flag shape(bottom of the flag) - Round icon/round flag = light unit Diamond icon/Flag with sharp point down = medium unit Square icon/Flag with flat bottom = heavy unit
I have never play this game before or any similar.Your videos really help me to learn how to play. This game it is a lot of fun. I start the campaign for the second time with the Suebi. I have radios mod installed and I start wining battles. I won more then 15 battles thanks to you.
I know I mentioned this in the last video, but does anyone else remember Heir's lessons on how to beat Spartan corner-campers in Rome 1? Good times :')
Great video! Just bought Rome 2 so this was very enlightening. Bit overwhelming with all the different commands, but as you stated ... practice, practice, practice. Many thanks sir!
Thanks for explaining just getting into TW and absolutely loving it apart from very inconsistent battle outcomes at the mo, practice practice practice.
I don’t know if you’ll see this, Heir but I just want to say I have so many fond memories of watching your videos with my brother when this game first came out. Honestly, it feels like a decade has gone by in the blink of an eye.
I swear you must be the guy teaching me basic chemistry and such on Khan Academy. What a legend, both of you or just you teaching me that i know nothing XD.
thank you for this, i really wanted to know how formation groups worked, and it was explained perfectly here. I always set my men up in a custom formation but when I move them forward they all spread out in a long line and it gets frustrating having to do custom formations in the midst of an attack. thanks!!!
You know, I've been playing Total War games since Medieval 1, and I never knew you could hold shift to make the camera move faster, how long have you been able to do that? Also good vid for new players Heir, you do a really good job of explaining the basics.
Hey Heir love your videos, have you got any videos know any good websites that are good for beginners for all total war games that covers all general stuff like tactics and strategy also handling units etc
I just realised I came across a little demanding xD. I was meant to ask, ot demand x3. It's often that I don't understand what I need to do, where to go, how I should go about things. Just the very basic things like that. Especially diplomacy if you're planning on this xD
Hey Heir, I am curious, can you set an attack way point? For example you set a cav unit to hammer and anvil a pike unit, can you attack and set a way point for them to pull out right after the charge? I would check myself, but I don't have access to my gaming pc right now. Thanks
im still gigglin over SHAMEFUL DISPLAY, had to hit pause on the vid, because i too am corny, and its a shameful display that im laughing this hard...now i will return to watching...but before i go back to viewing, again u need to be thanked for posting the how to vids heir...i commented before that imma total war vet and suck at rome2 and sho2 and these vids are very helpful and it expands the community, i truly believe that, even tho u never claim to be great at the game, u play people who are, so u are a total war veteran and us noobs appreciate that u take time to show us the very simple things that we may have overlooked..ive been playing total war for yrs now and love "HOW TO" vids...thx again...this comment is prolly a shameful display lmao
This video was extremely helpful for me cuz yea im a noob at TW and now maybe i will stop auto resolving somany battles and actually fight them myself.Wanted to thank you for being noob friendly Heir.
Yea auto resolve can be a huge rip off, but understandable how if you are new fighting them can be tricky too. I will try to make more and I hope it will help out.
i was playing on rome 1 online , playing as rome against the seleciud empire , what would be your tips on beating them they destroyed my army with archers and everytime i went in testitudo they charged me with there cav , any tips on how to beat them heir of carthage?
He showed a vid how to bit a phalanx. You stretch your legionaries so that they don't bunch in front of pikes and start bracing the phalanx instead(some peeps in the unit start outflanking another enemy's unit all by themselves and hence swordarmed legionaries chop even elite phalanx to pieces quickly).
The selecuids will always have great cav in Rome 1, but you can always count on you having better infantry. Bring plenty of Roman archers to skirmish, then make sure to support your cav with spears. Urban cohorts should be able to beat any seleucid infantry head on as long as you dont get rear charged.
Yea I will likely show it on a separate episode. It can be useful for people who are very new and sometimes it works ok. Sometimes it doesn't work well though. Essentially it is you allowing the AI to take command of a formed group in either an attacking or defensive stance.
Can someone help me pls.. i have 700 units more than enemy and i loose battle, always. i need 1500+ units more then enemy to win.. i cant figure this out
Heir can recommend any mods to stop enemy armys from spamming I keep having to restart my Rome campaign's because of the amount of general's and fund's the Etruscan League has can you help.
heir, ive seen you click unit cards in a way that i cant figure out. For instance, if you want unit card 1-7, you select all of them by clicking unit card 1, and then unit card 7. They arent all the same type of unit either. I seriously for the life of me figure out how to do this.
It does fine for the most part in the open field. It really struggles in any type of siege battle still. (well occasionally it will do ok, but not always)
10 years later.. still very helpful to new players.. thank you
Seems like we found this bouth 10 years later ;)

Thanks man! I've playing total war for so long and this is the only time I had learned about the basic battle controls.

I remember all my men bunching up in the corner and sending spartans flying in the air, that was a good time indeed

That was a great help, thanks for taking the time to make this
This helped immensely, precisely the info I needed to know. Thank you!
Thank you for this, embarrassed to say but I've been playing for years and never knew how to lock custom group formations
Thanks for explaining just getting into TW and absolutely loving it apart from very inconsistent battle outcomes at the mo, practice practice practice.

The waypoint command I didn't know about! That will help me a ton. Thanks!
Only just got a pc good enough to play this game - interface felt less intuitive then rtw1 - this tutorial was awesome and really helpful!
Ur video is underrated...BEST BEGINNER'S BATTLE GUIDE
bloody hell, 20 minutes of explaining and then smashing the army in 5... :D thanks, great video B)
Very well done and much needed, thanks Heir!
You are welcome

Thanks I find this very helpful, because i'm new to the game. Cheers! :)
Good video great for some tips to get u started
Very helpful, thanks! Plays quite differently than Empire and Napoleon! Give or take a few thousand years!
Good lord, I didn't know you could make custom waypoints, thanks so much for this!
Kinda late to the content but thank you for teaching me. Your battle videos are awesome
Thanks for the video, I decided to play out custom battles before getting too far int he game so I can learn the damn thing!
Heir I didn't get to properly thank you for making the last video so thank you for taking the time to help beginners like myself better at the game.
Well I hope it helped. Let me know what other types of tips you need.
You know, I've been playing Total War games since Medieval 1, and I never knew you could hold shift to make the camera move faster, how long have you been able to do that?

Awesome helps a lot. Thank you
I NEEDED THIS!
All I ask for now is campaign map basics!
Yea that is something I am still getting better at to, but I can try to make something on that as well.
I just realised I came across a little demanding xD.

Watching this to get ready for Total War Warhammer!
I've never played a TW game before so hopefully the controls are still the same lol!
Había un par de cosas que no sabía, gracias.
This helped a lot thanks
this helps a lot. Thanks
Awesome, thank you very much!
Thanks for watching
Heir, sometimes you talk like a South Park character :) Good video, keep them coming!
Well that would be by coincidence I guess cause I haven't ever really watched it much
i lernd u were always yelow, thanks
7 years later and still useful

yes, you hold shift as you do the waypoint

I don’t have the Caesar general command option / I have the strategist etc but no Caesar, why is that?
Thanks Heir.
Thank you for your help :)
Can you make a video for this on Naval Warfare?
Thanks for this. Maybe pretty basic, but helpful for n00bs like me
this dude just flexed on us at the end like he dint know he was gonna win
great vid
Thanks.
Thanks Heir!
Your welcome. Thanks for watching.
now I know how complex the game is :D
Can you do a campaign tutorial
you should use those groups more often for your MP battles. instead of clicking on map and scrolling on battlefield.
I do use them from time to time. They get glitchy with movement orders sometimes though so I don't use them sometimes either.
thanks heir.
Thanks for watching
there are video tutorials in the encyclopaedia :) very hidden away though
Didn't know that, wonder why they would hide them there rather than including them in the prologue campaign
never found them :D really well hidden indeed
bro casually uses an inverted crescent strategy in a rome v carthage battle
Good tips! Just who plays using their enemies perspective? is that a skill of a master general? kkk
Shameful display! That got me 😂
If Shogun is like Rome2, then there is a big problem. lol.

Can u explain the ai group attack/defence
Yea I will likely show it on a separate episode. It can be useful for people who are very new and sometimes it works ok. Sometimes it doesn't work well though. Essentially it is you allowing the AI to take command of a formed group in either an attacking or defensive stance.
HeirofCarthage ok thanks and keep up the awesome vids!
Can someone help me pls.. i have 700 units more than enemy and i loose battle, always. i need 1500+ units more then enemy to win.. i cant figure this out
Try putting spears in the front line for the enemy to run into and take cavalry round the back and keep smashing into them from there
I wanna play with you 1 vs 1 habe you time to play with me?
Wow that was basic, but good for players that are starting out
Yea I am trying to start from the beginning and work on up with more episodes.
This was very helpfull if you wouldent do this i would quit total war thans
Im Tunisian Tunisia was Carthage
Heirofcarthage a play to total war rome 2 have u time to play with me 1 vs 1?
Heir can recommend any mods to stop enemy armys from spamming I keep having to restart my Rome campaign's because of the amount of general's and fund's the Etruscan League has can you help.
I don't know any specifically, but I am certain there are mods out there that help limit the bonus money and armies that the AI gets.
HeirofCarthage Thanks mate.
that was very complicated lol
"shamefur" display
Gosh I miss that from Shogun 2. We need a mod for Rome 2 that adds it back in.
Check out (the wise coffin) on UA-cam

5th
No
No one usually claims 5th so that is a first that I have seen :)
the AI seems to be a bit more inteligent....
It does fine for the most part in the open field. It really struggles in any type of siege battle still. (well occasionally it will do ok, but not always)
