Bloody amazing... Due to leaving the UK for work, starting a family etc in 97... I haven't been involved in the amiga..
But it's great too see 25 years later and only updates from the community it's still going strong...
Damn I miss my a1200 in a case and 060 😔😔
Download WinUAE (or FS-UAE if you're on a Mac), and follow Mikey's tutorials 🙂 Or buy AmiKit, which already has everything preconfigured and looking pretty!
Thank you for making this video, new to the amiga and this is such a huge help.
Another great video with genuinely useful information! Thanks!
Instead of typing new shell, you can just type lha x then drag the file into the execute requester and have it auto complete the file path and name of the lha file.
I'm still a fan of using DOpus 4 for all my extraction requirements. Although it's definitely nice to use Deficons to assign default tools for filetypes. I'm actually surprised the OS32 devs weren't able to include this as standard without having to twat about setting things up manually. but then i guess that's where us Amigans differ from the vast majority of Windows/OSX users. Preconfigured Deficons was one of the best things about OS39.
i agree, this stuff should of been setup by default for most the popular programs. Not sure why they didnt.. I was editing deficons and botched some settings now everytime i try and start deficons in prefs it guru's the whole machine.. sigh!
it's rather frustrating. You would think that at a minimum LHA would be installed and you could at least double click and the command line would come up.
Apparently this was due to some kind of licensing issue that means it has easy built in ADF but not LHA handling
hi mike and i was looking for such a video, thanks
I love you :p
Thanks for this magical tips.
I love it :)
Excellent Mikey, thanks!!
Thanks! Very useful.
Thanks. Much appreciated :)
Here are some alternatives to Unpacker, just in case anyone wants to try 'em out:
Packmaster (most popular)
aminet.net/package/util/arc/Packmaster128
MiraWizARC (the one that comes with the ClassicWB distros
aminet.net/package/util/arc/MiraWizARC11b
MUIUnArc (very similar to the one that comes with OS39) *Requires MUI*
aminet.net/package/util/arc/MUIUnArc
You can also use Xadmaster but it can be a pain to set up and configure.
I use Diskmaster 2. The one on Aminet modded to work on modern Kickstarts.
I've been following your videos which have been great. Is there a reason you are not using 7zip on Windows instead? I just extract the folder and info file into required PC / Games or other folder and it's there is Workbench to be used as needed
I managed to follow these steps but now i noticed i cant edit or save my startup-sequence file. I took a look at it and the file has the same icon as a lha file now. I doubleklick it and it wants to unpack it. Wth!?
I'm on Workbench 3.1 does Unpacker not work there? Or how would I setup the association with lha files?
Thanks for the video ! Can you unpack more than one lha file at the time ? Convenient when installing games to Whdload.
I believe it is one at a time sadly.
or just use voodoo-x?
(although on a fresh install unpacker really makes more sense)
When Windows 95 arrived back in the day I realised that it had pulled ahead of Workbench in ease of use by having stuff like a right-click context menu to extract archives or whatever. Clearly this is what is needed here, can’t the developers of the OS add this?
we've had deficons since way back in the day that you could add to wb3.1. it did the same stuff.
hey amigo , where i can donwload amigaos3.2.iso ??
When I click on the Icon (5.24) nothing happens 😖 ua-cam.com/video/YebV69b6Mwc/v-deo.html
Yet another file that should be included with the os. We spend hours installing lha files to make the os useful and convenient. But it's not that productive.
