Update: We saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse shortly after publishing. And you’re right. Easily the best blockbuster of the year.
U insane ?
Best blockbuster of the 2018 has to be Avengers: Infinity War, followed by Aquaman.
Spider-Man may be only best animated movie and even there The Incredibles are superior.
@@Filippirgos oh, son, incredibles has no business on this list! Especially not with Spiderverse around.
Stop rating Aquaman, it's hot garbage. @@Filippirgos
IW had one big mistake: it killed all the thrill by killing all the people that get a new movie in the next 1 - 2 years. You taint your brilliant ending by killing the exact wrong people and try to force a "oh nooo" feeling even though everyone knows that those who died will be back. @@Filippirgos

Thanks!
At least this is a Cinefix guaranteed not to have The Mirror on it.
Wrong again idiot Tarkovsky released The Mirror 2 alongside Despacito 2 this year. It's chosen as the #0 pick at 15:34. Watch the full video before you comment.
But will have "The Third Man" on it
@Dean Palmer lmao best movie of all time? The mirror is so pretencious and unbearable. tarkovski is at the same level as m. night shyamalan and barely below nolan at best.

I love this channel.
I could count on my fingers the channels that manage to provide valuable commentary on movies accessible to wide audiences, but I can name at most 3 that do it with so much grace.
Hoovy Tube Can I ask you which are the other two? :)
Yeah, what are the other two?
Yeah I'm gonna need that list 😅 I find it hard to find good movie channels
It'd be nice if they'd focus less on bro-centered action flicks and fanboi classics.
Every Frame a Painting and Movies with Mikey, probably
I like how you all categorize your lists. It gives a much more varied top 10 than most videos, even though it may sometimes still not give you the actual ten best movies, just the best from each category. Anyway, whenever I do lists, I try to emulate your style somewhat while still keeping my own. I hope I can get where you are one day. Matter of fact, I know I will. Count on it.
Agreed. Well done cinefix

The way you guys talk through lists and genre, rather than just a basic top 10 is really awesome. Oh, and you're not paid by disney/marvel which is nice. Please continue into 2019!
Cold War should at least have been mentioned. One of the best looking films of the year.

You guys deserve more subscribers and more of a cult following than you do, the way you just take everything im thinking that i just cant put into words, it really makes me happy and i love you're videos. thanks for a good time guys
my favourite film this year was isle of dogs. Something about it just made me smile start to finish, love that movie
aw such a bummer that you guys hadnt seen spiderverse yet. It was more than the best animated movie for its revolutionary visuals, it'd be the best in the action category and my personal favorite superhero movie of 2018
I agree! This is a terrible oversight and a good reason to wait for the year to end before you start end of the year videos.
I wouldn't go THAT far, the final fight scene was kind of a mess. But it was a very good animated film
Honestly, in a way it's the best comic book movie ever because of how well it adapts the medium and how enjoyable and easy to understand it is despite being such a deep cut in comics lore for casual fans.
100% agree
Agreed!!!
The best compilation i have ever come across.
Thanks, my calendar for the month is filled. Much Love.
Not that you’ll notice this, but new subscriber here. I think you do an excellent job rounding up an eclectic mix of films/movies. Reminds me of the well-rounded approach that good critics on TV used to give of films back in the day. Keep up the good work.
I was genuinely surprised Incredibles 2 was your choice for best blockbuster, I personally don't think it's better than the first movie.
Even if it WAS better than the first, it wasn't better than the other blockbusters. Even removing marvel from the equation (with arguably 2 of their best films yet), MI 6 was better as well
Yes, I felt too much of an Agenda: females can do it too kind of thing; both villain and hero... they tried to hard and it got distracting and was not compelling but more of an anything you can do I can do better type of thing

blindspotting......

Words can't express how proud I am of Bo Burnham. And how happy it makes me to have witnessed his journey into this incredible empathetic filmmaker!
Incredibles II? What's the criteria here....I loved it out of nostalgia but it didn't rise to the occasion for me
yeah, that was a dumb decsicion. I have no idea what they saw in it
I thought it stunk.
It has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Hands down the best Top 10 format I have ever seen. Very inventive and original. Great work.
This is easily becoming my fav UA-cam channel. Thank you so much for making all of this amazing content.
Searching had me neck deep in suspense and then shocked me in the end.
My favorite of the year.
Just watched it. The plot twist is great.
It's so satisfying to see Hereditary get the love it deserves. Sick and tired of the "cool kids" saying it sucks
And it's the wording like that, gets you targeted. Tbh I don't get the feud with it. It's a movie just in my opinion, it sucked
It may come as a shock to you, but not everyone has to like the same films that you do.
Kamil Olszewski this is true but if you don’t like Hereditary you’re a loser
First off Kamil, who the hell is your comment to?
But not liking the movie doesn't make me a loser, it just shows I have a brain to think for myself
Hereditary was fucking awesome
Best compilation I have ever come across
Good job!!!!
Wow this list was awesome. It shows respect to not only each movies of the year but also to the genre and variety the movie industry has. Really enjoyed watching it and subscribed from now on. Looking forward for your good work at 2019.
So basically upgrade is a better venom?
even with a Tom Hardy look-a-like
They upgraded venom
Upgrade deserves all the money that Venom made. It's ridonculous
I found it decent, kinda predictable to me
With a low-budget 'Tom Hardy'😂
It's disappointing how many movies I've missed this year since Moviepass fell apart.
AMC A-List is the wave. I cancelled MP in July & just got A-List a week ago, its already amazing
@@Anish23420 I'd go for that if any AMC theaters were around here. Only Regal. Regal wants maximum money.

@@AbbreviatedReviews dang that sucks all I have is AMC near me lol
Burning by Chang-dong Lee was probably the best slow burn thriller of the past 10 years. This movie moves incredibly slow almost to the point where you sit there and think come on get on with it, but god damn is it worth it. The tension builds and builds through the whole movie and before you notice it you are incredibly invested into the story and characters. I also love that most of the, let's call them "plot points" that define and drive the plot are kept very ambiguous, to the point where you are never quite sure what the correct move would be. All these things just make for a fantastic film that some people might find boring, or even tedious, but i absolutely loved. // strong recommendation 9/10
I wish you people had given some more honourable mentions in the foreign films category.. List was great as usual.. Helped me find new favourites.. Thanks, cinefix!
You guys would regret this list after you see "Spiderverse"
if this was my list Spider-Verse would take every spot
@Milton Mumfrey no it wasn't
They should regret it for having Incredibles 2 win. WAY worse than many of the blockbusters this year
@Milton Mumfrey infinity war wasn't a complete movie!
Infinity war was good.. Spiderverse was good.. Why do you have to compare? Can't they both be really good movie?
I haven't seen every big movie out there, but if Incredibles 2 was the year's best blockbuster, we've had a really sorry year for blockbusters. I would have given Black Panther the nod over it personally among the blockbusters I have seen. Unlike I2, BP actually carries its themes through a complete story with meaningfully dynamic characters.
I also really liked black panther. So many great aspects The real stand outs in my opinion were Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, the themes of family, and Wakanda felt real and was a visual spectacle. However, it was not my favorite blockbuster of 2018. The movie had issues. The cgi was pretty lack luster. T'Challa felt like he didn't have much direction, he felt much more compelling in civil war. His love interest felt very tacked on. I don't understand why the reveal of the T'Chaka murdering his brother was saved till later. It would have given an incredible sense of dramatic irony.
too bad bp has the disease of ugly cgi final battle scenes that superhero flicks so often have.
folks talk about doctor strange's ending all the time, proving that you don't need a bunch of cgi punches to hit home and hard.
still good tho
I agree with you. It was the most grown up and complex marvel movie ever. This was the movie that made me take the MCU a little more seriously. They focused more on the story than the fan service. That's why a lot of people are hating on it or saying that it's mediocre
Maybe for an Marvel movie it was good .. But it used some logic that really didn't make any sense ....
See, I seem to be the only person out here who actually hated Michael B. Jordan's performance, and therefore, the movie suffered for it. His character just didn't click for me, and he certainly wasn't the best actor of 2018 like everyone seems to praise. It was a good movie, don't get me wrong. I didn't waste my money seeing it. It just wasn't one of the greatest movies of the year. All in my opinion of course.
A movie critic that has an objective lens is the best kind of critics. And this is a channel that makes a stand point that make sense in movies and not in box office or politics.
thanks for the list Cinefix! Ordered Upgrade on Blu Ray and loved it! What a surprise and gem of a film! Hope that more people will find out about it because of your video, because it's a shame it didnt do better in cinemas. Great tight action packed sci fi movie with fantastic action and a maginificent ending. Ow yeah and coolest sci fi soundtrack since the original Terminator.
I was so incredibly happy when he said Paddington 2.
The Favourite was probably my favorite of the year. Surprised you didn't talk more about it

Thanks for this channel. I hate the over-the-top "top lists" of channels like "Looper" and so on. Good voice, good pacing and great information, showing a bunch of GOOD movies, while focusing on your choice for "best" in that category. Please continue with this work

I was looking for movies to watch and saw this list. Best movies list of 2018! Thanks guys and gals at CineFix!!
I would've really liked you to include sci-fi though. Annihilation really was great
Why did people like that nonsense? Yes, it had some cool visuals, but the script was so unbelievably lazy that I couldn't get myself into the movie for a minute.
@@tiagobsreis How can you watch annihalation and feel afterwards that the SCRIPT was lazy. smh..
Anything people don't understand is called lazy writing these days.
They expect every plot to be absorbed passively by osmosis through no reasoning of their on.
First, the idea of repeatedly sending small groups of people, one after the other, for certain death isn't very realistic. Once they notice that nobody can get alive to the lighthouse and go back, start studying plants and animals found close to the edge of the bubbly shimmering thing, why the obsession of going so deep if they could learn everything from what could be found in a safe area? And, in the end, if they weren't convinced that the best idea was to bomb down the lighthouse and really wanted to get someone there, then use an armored jeep, a helicopter, a battle tank, whatever, but stop sending people to die in vain.
And that is just what I don't like about the premise. The dialogues and explanations throughout the movie are often cringy and nonsensical. They shoot out words like "refraction", "reflection", "DNA" in a very sciency tone as if that actually could be allowed by what we know of physics. Just saying those phenomena were alien stuff beyond our understanding would be way less embarrassing.
@@tiagobsreis The people get attracted by the core in the lighthouse. If you didn't get that you're missing out on half the storyline
Blindspotting is the movie the left me buzzing the most
Im pretty disappointed it didnt even get a mention
Blindspotting is by far one of the best movies of 2018. I'm not sure what category they would have put it under. It's definitely hilarious but also so real and heavy. I'd sort it right next to Blackkklansman in my 2018 movie list!

I saw If Beale Street Could Talk twice. The first time all I could do was take in the beauty of the skin tones. The second time I was mesmerized but I couldn't figure out why. You're assessment was absolutely accurate, surprising and clarified what I was seeing but couldn't put into words. What Jenkins does is subtle and bypasses our defenses and unwillingness to suspend disbelief. Before we know it we're in the world he creates and we have to perceive and function by the rules of that world. Thank you.
Into The Spider Verse was the best movie of the year
I love that you didn’t pick any of the mainstream favorites! :)
Thank you for mentioning 'A Prayer before Dawn' it's a terrific and riveting film that deserves the love. I hope more people end up seeing it.

but animated? easily by FAR, the best, nothing even comes close to it.
@@ArlanKels Best Marvel movie maybe (are we sure this was made by Sony, as in The Emoji movie and Venom Sony?) but to THE best movie period. Top 5 for sure
my mind melted when I saw spider verse. the style, soundtrack, action, comedy, pacing...everything. But for the me, as a student, one of my favorite aspects (as well as one of the most overlooked) was it's depiction of what school is like - especially a new one. It is the closest a film has ever gotten to actually feeling like school. But man, the fight scenes were incredible, as well as the many montages
nigerian movies r great too
One time in a Nigerian movie a man had a heart attack while in the hospital, and the one of the doctors shouted “someone call an ambulance!”

Uh huh... Paddington 2... Interesting. I will indeed put this on my list "Of Movies to Watch for 2018". You guys also mentioned many movies I skimmed by and never gave a second thought, to now wanting and anticipating a sit down and watch. Grazie for the video!
Comments section in a nutshell: Take a completely subjective thing and argue over it like the opinions are facts.
This applies mostly to art. And movies are art, so you're right.
You say that like it's a problem. The point of comment sections is for people to express their opinions. Great job pointing the obvious there dude
@@aryasuri9421
His point is that people are always considering their own opinion as an objective fact, when it's just another opinion.
This is especially pointless when it comes to artistic topics, such as movies or music. You can't really find an "objectively" good film.
For me "The House That Jack Built" would at least deserve to be mentioned, if not a slot. Although it's tough to tell which slot, horror maybe?
We really like how you broke this down by category. Quite refreshing. Surprised you didn't make an effort to see Spider-Man though yet. It's been out for 3 weeks and is definitely one of the most Awesome Movies of the year - Animated or not.

If Beale Street Could Talk was a great #1 pick. Such a beautiful, poignant film. It's probably in a toss-up with Roma for my #1 or #2.
Paddington 2! Thank you for including that. I rarely laugh out loud (literally. it’s an annoyance to my friends) but I watched this by myself and did. Several times. I rewatched it with my favorite 11 yo and it became even funnier with her giggles.
My favourite -this- last year are: Bohemian Rhapsody, Hereditary, Ready Player One, Aquaman, Mowgli, tho I have several more movies I haven't watched yet that I look forward too.
I wish that Summer of 86 had a bit more shine, really enjoyed that movie the ending was so bold

“Hereditary” was a major surprise for me. I’m not into horror films but this is far beyond the average commercial horror movie. Colette’s performance as one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. I asked for a sandwich then I was served a big juicy steak.
