One of the earliest progenitors of Jump Blues in the mid forties to the early fifties a precursor to Rhythm and Blues a huge influence on James Brown, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles and BB King among many others.❤️
+Gf Black This man is my idol not only was he responsible for the creation of Rock music he was a pioneer for a style of music that doesn't get the credit it richly deserves say hello to JUMP BLUES it was the forerunner of all styles of music with the exception of Jazz music.Plenty of music legends owe their careers to this forgotten icon!!!!!i
glory777 He along with BIG JOE TURNER,LIONEL HAMPTON helped pioneer a style of music called JUMP BLUES it was the forerunner to all forms of music you hear in the modern era.
Louis Jordan was great. Terrific musician, jazz innovator and great humorist also. This tune, "G.I. Jive", "Ain't Nobody Here But us Chickens", "& Open the Door Richard" are all classic.
Amazing from the comments how many people know this song primarily through it's brief use in The Blues Brothers film. Ironically, among all the great music in that film, this song, used in such a quiet subtle moment, is my favorite in the entire film.
One of the Godfathers, pioneers of Rock and Roll...together with the great Blues artists of that time. All black. All super talented. Paving the way for all music to this day. Amazing musicians.
Thank god for BB king! He's responsable for turning me on to mr.jordan about 10 min ago after watching one of his video's. Every Louis Jordan tune I listen to I just sink back into simpler times. I find I start picking up my guitar and trying to play along to Mr.Jordan's ato and interpret it with my guiutar like BB. does. What a great player I'm so glad I found this music! I'll never let it die. Cheers, IC
"hey folks this is you broadcaster here and we have some news for you! The currier that was saved by folks of newspring is back on his feet and on the roll! now! thats one deliverer you can count on"
That is one of the best fucking songs in the world, i heard it the first time in the blues brothers movie in elwoods apartment... let the good times roll
Nan Matau It's colloquial, so it's not in the dictionary. Perfectly acceptable in Chicago. I was born here. They're spelling it phonetically as a joke. No one but non-native English speakers would spell it that was on purpose.
I played this song at an open mic on sunday with the band. I csme here to see how my trumpet joins in. I learned from this video that most time when the singer stops, the trumpet plays for a couple of measures. Im guessing about 8 quarter notes. Ill be ready the next time we play this song.
Louis Jordan........from his direct influence came Bill Haley, who, at last, popularised the Dawn of Rock n' Roll.....how do I know?.......I was there.
Tell everybody Mr. Jordan's in town. I got a dollar and a quarter and I'm just raring to clown. Don't let nobody play me cheap. I got 50 cents more than I'm gonna keep.
I see other people remember this song from the first Blues Brothers film. It was played (ironically) when Jake and Elwood had just reunited at the nasty, dismal apartment of one of them; the setting was nothing like "good times". And then Carrie Fisher pulls up outside and fires a shoulder-held rocket launcher and blows up the entire building. The Brothers just climb out of the debris, dust themselves off, and go off on their adventures.
The music is here for your enjoyment- That's the good thing about it it will last long after we're all gone and someone in the future will be saying that Lady GaGa is what music should be. What crap we have today.
I like this version it emphasizes the lyrics Louis Jordan has always been my favorite from this era, and this is waayyy before my time, but his rappin' is always entertaining. I like the rock' n roll versions too though...
Louis Jordan. maybe actually the original " Father Of Rythm and Blues! Coined the phrase by then writer for Bilboard, Jerry Wexler came up with this term, Mojo…...
I saw the Blues Brothers the other day for the first time. When i heard this song, i started singing outloud along to the song. When it was done my parents just stared at me for a few minutes without saying anything. Then my dad said: ''Son, where have you learned to get such a good taste in music?''
To quote GTA Vice city Wave 103 “were revolutionizing music, well actually were repackaging it for a new generation” if it wasn’t for that sort of outlet I wouldn’t know of some of the great music out there. For example if it wasn’t for my favorite film, The Blue Brothers, dare I say I probably wouldn’t know of Louis Jordan. With the shit on radio now days, how else can we keep all this alive?
What a super talented guy. I just discovered his music this year and he's awesome

This man is arguably the most influential musician produced on American soil he had his fingers in all forms of music we hear today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KeyKendrick He was one of the fathers of rock music.Ppl still think that Elvis was the driving force behind the creation of the music.
I think Louis Jordan is hilarious, Haven´t found many artists like him from his time. Also, it´s a nice mix between Jazz and Blues!

I agree. No one of modern generation would know songs like this, if it wasn't at games like Mafia or L.A.Noire.
Some more Jump blues (early rock and roll)- Louis J recorded hundreds of great tunes! This one is done by BB King as well.
