great tut, yeah lighting is always important to know and understand for any occasion and can often make or break the overall look and first impressions
Now I'm Pissed , seriously the YEARS I've been wanting to do this ( w/out 50 subdivides & its still hell to get it to curve ) in how many versions of Blender . I'd be embarrased but I know I'm not the only stupid joker out here ( judging by the 9 dislikes ). Thanks D , my cube is going to another level !
Definetly a compliment & expression of gratitude ( as I said , been trying to do this for years & you do it with a few clicks , so Thanks for the insight ! )
Any idea why the texture/background image isn't displaying on the "new piece" that we've extended up from the original plane? It shows fine on the "bottom part," but nothing but black showing on the "top part." Thank you!
I am using version 2.82, I am not able to select the edge for extrusion. what should I do? I am Noob in Blender. update:- as I can see that as a noob it is not clear how to select an edge in your video so I did some research and find out that, we have to switch into edit mode, then we can use your technique to solve the problem. so thanks for the tutorial.
ctrl+b wasn't working so i got mad and i got madder. then i tired removing the doubles (w while in object mode then select the option re:INCASE UR LIKE ME) and it worked. so im less mad now. still mad that nobody i see in videos has doubles popping up yet i always do...
(FIX) late reply but for anyone else reading: this happens if you scale the plane non-uniformly in object mode. all you have to do is apply scale transform (ctrl+a) so that the x/y/z scale values are all 1 again. then the bevel will be 45 degrees
I think you want to use srgb or something instead of filmic ... I have had to do that before too but can't remember the exact process. Look in to color space though
if i make 2 planes and join them, my bevel is stuck on one plane, even though now its considered 1 single object. I tried merging verts, still no change. Is "Join" not good enough? Help much appreciated.

Great tutorial Derek. Thanks a ton :D
th studio thanks for watching! What would you like to see next!?
Thanks again for your kind reply Derek. Could you please make some tutorials on lighting, shading and materials? That'll be really helpful :)
awesome was fast and easy for beginner thank you :)
For those that create 2 triangles. the best way is add modifier go to bevele and change to edges and scale segments
how to configure my workspace to look like yours with all of those different views for rendered view and layout and tools pannel etc?
thanks for this one! Saved me!
good and quick video!
Perfect tried that bevel version myself the only thing I missed before was to ctrl B on the middle points Thank you :)
Very helpful tutorial. Thanks

Glad you got it! But yes in edit mode you can change between vert, edge, face select
tysm i was wondering how to do this
se puede hacer usando el modificador "simple deformation"?
if you guys failed to use bevel method. maybe you forgot to click snap during transform (shift+tab)
Already did, still doesn't work
Thanks! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong
fuck thank you!@
This comment help out a lot!

Sounds like you need a fresh blender install. I'd uninstall fully then run a registry cleaner. Then download current stable version.
Thank you! I was in the same place as you! This solved it immediately. So happy now.
Don't try 2.9 then. Not only does Ctrl-B not work, but neither do bevels on planes.
How to do the Scroll up 1:27 with Wacom Pen?
when i did the ctrl b part, it only moved the corner part up about 2 degrees instead of the 45 degrees in the video
You need to slide it but this is also an old video
@@DerekElliott still a pretty useful video in 2020

Bevel tool is creating more segments, but not actually beveling for me
Do you have a tutorial on how to make that background real white instead of greyish?

When I extrude 2 vertices makes a hexagon and not curve, something's missin?
Make sure you have added more segments
please do a begginer product modelling tutorial guides and everything
Everything sounds like a lot
@@DerekElliott I know but I know it will help a lot of people 🥺🥺
Thankyou!
Glad you found it 😊
what theme are you using?
This is an old version of blender which is why it's different
What if you are just using trackpad on macbook
my controll + B does not do not create another side as your did... it just created extra lines in the vertical side. Someone please tell me how to fix
Maybe your edges are not connected?
@@DerekElliott I figured it out. You select the edge in edit mode and put a bevel modifier, then increase segments

how to create square camera like in a video pls help thank you
how did he "select the back two vertices" then raise it I cant select the back two vertices
go to edit mode > and make sure you activate "vertex mode"
Yes
wtf? 0:58 HOW????
Why doesn't it work if you extruded 2 sides?
